I came in on Tuesday afternoon and there were quite a few people. The barista was so so nice and advocated for me when a lady tried to cut me in line. Very kind of him! They offer student discounts for drinks which is also lovely. I got the moonrise latte (combo of dark chocolate and white chocolate mocha) and it was delicious! We were in the area and stopped in for coffee. I am thrilled we did! The Saturday morning staff was friendly, helpful, and offered suggestions and options. In a day of DD and Starbucks where the employees are bothered if you have a question this was a welcome surprise. I noticed nods to American pride and respect which I greatly appreciated and respect. The quality of the coffee and workmanship of our lattes was top notch (and resulted in me ordering a berry smoothie and iced Wiccan tea-bliss!!). Stopped here on a drive up to MA. Easy stop off the highway. Really enjoyed the egg/cheese/avocado sandwich on a croissant and it came out quickly. I said I wanted just a little milk in my coffee. Love this hidden gem! I stopped in for a Protein Stack on this particular morning. This was my first visit to the cafe. I've ordered lunch a handful of times with my colleagues, but have never been the one to do the pick up. We've always enjoyed everything that we've ordered, from the yummy breakfast sandwiches to the filling paninis. Bruce's Protein Stack is my go-to meal. Tip: check the menu online since all the items are not listed on the board! I found Bruce's Protein Stack doing that. I wanted a no bread breakfast and this was IT. This plate comes with 2 eggs, chipotle sauce, buffalo ranch sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon, sausage, and Canadian bacon. Highly recommended. The sauce is not that spicy and goes SO WELL with the meats and cheese! I took it to-go and it was surprisingly simple to cut and eat with plastic cutlery. Prices are very reasonable my breakfast was $9.66 for the stack and a medium coffee. Oh! The coffee! It's amazing! Just got a hot black coffee and the taste is incredible. While I love the moonrise special (egg and cheese with avocado on a croissant) and their lavender lemonade, their other drinks fall short. The smoothies are sickeningly sweet and watery, and their chai lattes (both iced and hot) were also very sweet and artificial. I tried both the smoothies and the chais multiple times, but each time they were undrinkable due to how sweet they were. The frozen yogurt is decent. My service has always been good, and the store is big with multiple tables and comfy chairs near the window. I like this place but only for certain items. I still recommend trying it out and seeing how you like it! read more

We had the tiger chai, macchiato, and London fog for drinks. All were excellent quality. The tiger chai was so different- I would highly recommend. This review will all depend on what you're going there for. Coffee? Do it! The specialty drinks are fantastic. Made to order and super smooth. Delicious all around. If that was the only thing I was going to review I'd be giving this place 5 stars. Food - specifically the sandwiches. Nope. Actually I'd give them less than 3 stars if it was only based on those. The paninis are not great at all. And for the price definitely not worth it. And there's no substitutions. They come as they are. When asked if they were made on site they did say yes, but they simply can't alter them much at all since they're not a "deli" which is a fair statement but honestly, if you want some quick sandwiches go somewhere else. A great spot in North Haven for your coffee fix. Came here for iced coffee and the only complaint is that their iced drinks has too much ice. Yes, the drinks are "larger" than what I am use to in NYC, for example, a medium is ~ 20 oz. However the iced lattes are made like this: first espresso and flavoring/syrup, then the top is filled to the brim with ice before adding milk. What is the result? An iced latte that looks like it is filled with 65-70% ice cubes when looking at it. read more

Don't understand the high ratings. Maybe most of these high ratings are from old experiences? My experience with this place is that the customer service could be greatly improved. I'd heard such great feedback about Moonrise Cafe that I knew I needed to try their breakfast! I ordered a salted caramel cold brew and an egg and cheese on a croissant. A+! My drink had just enough flavor without being overpowering and it was such a smooth brew. And the croissant was delicious with perfectly melted cheese. this place used to be so good. I loved the atmosphere, the service, and the food. with these most current owners, I have never been so appalled. I watched as the bald headed owner, yelled at an employee while at the register over a rudimentary task. these owners are bad for business. they treat customers poorly and their employees even worse. the sandwiches are small now and the veggie straws are ALWAYS stale. Moonrise needs a change it is to ever thrive again. these owners are burying their customer base and soon their employees too. read more

Maybe it was all the 5 star reviews but my expectations were so high and I'm basically disappointed with this place. First time there this morning and ordered and iced coffee. Watched the guy make it, grinding the beans and everything which was a good sign. Then i watched him go to the sink and fill the 2/3 filled cup up to the top with sink water. Why? What about some filtered water if you are going to grind and press beans? But I'm almost glad he did because it was soooooo strong, much stronger than any Starbucks I've had and if it didn't have the water I probably couldn't have drank it. Then I decided to order a bagel after perusing the menu and cases. they had 3 kinds, plain, wheat and everything. While it was toasting he goes to me next time order the bagel before the coffee. I was taken aback because what does it matter to him? I'm the one waiting. And I decided to get one after I ordered my coffee anyways. Well got my bagel and was disappointed with that too. It was clearly a stop and shop bagel or one that tasted like it. I expected a real bagel not those airy ones. Overall not impressed. I certainly wouldn't get either of those 2 things again. Searched yelp for coffee in the area and this place popped up. The description was interesting as a cafe with froyo. Waking in, it is very clean and modern looking. The froyo stations are towards the back and then there is a toppings bar in front of them. There are many tea options along with coffee (cold brew available), smoothies, and liquid flavor options. For food, there are some breakfast sandwiches (served all day) and paninis. I got the moonrise special (egg, avocado, cheese) and I added spinach. I got it on a jalapeño bagel. The bagel was so light (almost croissant like) and the jalapeños were visible atop and added a nice flavor. Thy also have muffins, brownies, etc for sale. The staff that helped us were very nice. The seating area is very comfortable and inviting, whether you are alone, with a friend, or with a group working on a project. read more

Moving to Connecticut for school, I was itching for a new coffee shop. This is coming from a guy who spent several years in a city where hip and new coffee shops popped up every month, and every 3rd building served "the city's best espresso." In this (mostly) rural state, it was nice to find a coffee shop that could actually hold its own against high end 3rd generation coffee shops. No joking around it, the coffee is good. Not great, but good. What seemed more important to me was that there are outlets everywhere and different kinds of seating to adjust to different comfort styles. The wifi is also blazingly fast, so you Yelpers can expect me to be working there more often than not. Other than coffee, there are lots of options. The place doubles as a frozen yogurt bar, sells panini sandwiches (I haven't seen anybody order these yet), and sells old-fashioned and luxury sodas. The baristas always seem to be younger women, between high school and early college age. Coincidence? Maybe. But if it sells... Went in this morning for a coffee after getting my nails done next door and will never return! There was an elderly man taking orders and running the register he was slow, but obviously learning. A woman who I assume was management or owner came and said "you're holding the line up!" And then looked and the customer and said "you can teach em, but you cant train em". I felt so bad for the man, it was so demeaning. Writing this review only because I dont want her to think I walked out bc he was too slow. Please be kinder to your employees, especially the elderly. I used to frequent this cafe and always thoroughly enjoyed their beverages and warm cafe environment. However, I feel compelled to write about a very unfortunate incident that just took place. My father stopped by during his morning errands to grab a tea and support a small business, something we have continuously done during the pandemic. When he entered, there was a customer in line, and what he presumed to be the owner behind the counter, engaged in conversation both maskless. Justifiably, given the danger of the pandemic and the current mask mandate, he felt compelled to ask the customer if he had a mask. The situation become hostile when the owner accused my father of "starting trouble." In reality, he was just trying to support a small business while staying safe, and unfortunately the situation got very ugly. Number one, this business is violating mask mandates. If you care about that, you may want to avoid coming here for now. Number two, they treated a paying customer with complete disrespect and the situation elevated, even when it did not need to. Again, I used to love this establishment, so hearing about this was a huge disappointment. I hope moon rise will take masks seriously for both customers and staff, and appreciate the customers who come to their business. read more
