Hi I decided to try a new lunch place with a friend and it turned out all kind of wrong. I ordered a salad on the menu called the Green Goddess Salad. Well I got a bowl of greens ($17.00). Certainly nothing like described on the menu nor the picture that is on the menu. The salad was to be mixed greens, pecans, dried cranberries, feta cheese red bell peppers (asked for tomatoes instead) and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I sent it back and was told it would take another 15 minutes which I did not have because we already waited 20 minutes to get our food. The manager came out an asked if I wanted something else and I responded NOPE. I did not trust them to do anything else if they could not even make a simple salad. She offered us both a smoothie on the house and those took forever as well. Keep in mind we got there at 11:30 before the lunch rush began. The waitress never came back to even ask us everything was fine. The rest of our encounter was with the manager. Speaks to the training they are giving the staff. My friend ordered a Veggie Wrap which was certainly not worth $17.00 bucks. Very little hummus, pickles, tomato and arugula with drop of red pepper paste. The place is cute but not worth another visit nor the trouble from me. My suggestion to this place is to train your staff better and do a better job reviewing your food before you bring it out to the customer. I would like to thank the manager that was on duty that day because she did her best to make things right. She was sent from another location to help this store do better - that speaks volumes. Been here a few times before for coffees and pastries, which are amazing. Decided to try breakfast here with my wife because Bella's café across the street had a one hour wait and we were in a hurry. Sat down in the main dining room without a wait which was great and ordered our coffees and breakfast. We each ordered an omelette because the menu although packed with selections didn't have very many breakfast options. I ordered a mushroom and cheese omelette my wife ordered the basil feta we both ordered a pistachio latte. Latte was delivered hot and delicious, omelette took :40 so in the meantime, we ordered three pieces of baklava which were delivered frozen. The cheese in the inside of my omelette wasn't melted, it was cold and raw even though the egg was so overcooked and browned that i couldn't eat it all. The hash brown was just a frozen hash brown that was heated up, gross. The bread that was served was just that, bread, not toasted or buttered. This is obviously just a small coffee shop that decided to start doing breakfast with extra space. They should stick with just coffee and pastries. read more

This is the place where we can find the best middle eastern sweets like baklava and Halwa near New Haven. The place seems to be very popular as it's always crowded no matter what time you go. I like their hot drinks (they offer diary free milk) and desserts. The place is decorated quite artistic. During weekends, the wait time can be very long. I see people sitting down and dining there as they offer brunch too, but I never got a chance to try it. The price of the coffee/tea can be comparable to Starbucks (may be more) and the desserts are pricey too. read more

What an absolute gem we found. We were actually going to a different spot but ended up here and I am so glad we did. For starters I had a nice cup of cappuccino along with an avocado tartine which was topped of with feta cheese and olive oil. This breakfast tartine was spectacular. It was the perfect size and tasted delicious. My girlfriend had the salmon tartine and she really enjoyed her meal. Both of our meals were served with a side salad which was excellent as well. We also ordered two sunny side eggs as well as an almond croissant which was served with a cinnamon butter. It was sooo good. Bottom line I will definitely come back to this place to try other items. The service was excellent, the waitress was very prompt and took care of all our needs. The restaurant was really nice, once you enter they have a counter with various of desserts and baked goods. I absolutely love the atmosphere at Pistachio! The aesthetic is so instagrammable and pleasing to the eye. My favorite part about this cafe is all of the yummy treats here! They rotate their pastries and cakes often but my favorite so far his been the chocolate fudge cake. The cake is so moist and rich. I can't wait for them to bring it back. When you first walk in, it seems like a small coffee spot but as you walk to the back of the shop, it opens up to another room tastefully decorated with flowers and well-placed antiques surrounding lounge sofas and bergère chairs. The service is a little lacking at Pistachio's, however. More than once, my order has been completely forgotten, though it's a simple coffee or tea, so I have to go back and remind them, then wait again for my order. Absolutely love this cafe, I haven't been to the second location yet but I have tried a variety of things from the first one. Love their turkey croissant and their rose latte. So delicious and perfectly made. I love how their cafe looks inside and the ability to rent out rooms for parties. Also not to mention their food is also halal which is a plus! Their macarons are so tasty and flavourful I love how they switch up their flavors every so often. I have tried their other bakery items as well, a ricotta pistachio cake was so good. This is such a cute little cafe! I got the iced spicy Mexican mocha and it was perfection. Very smooth with just a splash of spice at the end of each sip. It was awesome. My friend got the iced honey cinnamon latte and it tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch! We also got the caprese panini and the Nutella berry waffle to split. The food was so good! After the last person in our party ordered, only then did the cashier tell us that it would be about a 30 minute wait until we got our food. Since it's a weekend, we stayed and were understanding that it was a morning brunch rush but 30 minutes went by, then 45, then over 1 hour. When two of my friends took turns to check on our orders, they were both dismissed by the staff and one person even walked away and waved his hand away at her. After we realized that a party of 20 had come in with a reservation and was being served before us even though we ordered before they came, we decided to try one more attempt to check on our orders before leaving. My friend chatted with one of the staff and he went to the kitchen 2 times, both times coming out with nothing. During the second time, the staff person told us that our food was being made and the order was just placed 10 minutes before when in reality we ordered 1 hour earlier. I gave this restaurant a second chance after a poor service experience. The take out pastries are good. The food you sit down and order is alright, definitely a little pricey, but you're paying for the aesthetic of the restaurant which they do well. I ordered the rose waffles and it took over a half hour to come out, they were a little burnt/crispy and dry and the presentation wasn't great. The croissants, balaclava, and Turkish delights were a nice treat to bring home though and all very good. The service was better this time, however I ordered an iced chai with whole milk and received a hot chai with oat milk and our server didn't come to check on us until after we finished our food so I couldn't get a new drink. It also took her 20 minutes to bring us our drinks + water. She had tables on both sides of the room so I don't think the servers are adequately trained to handle the volume of orders they get on a weekend morning. I also got takeout for my roomates and the waffles were missing toppings in the description and were fully dry. The grilled cheese wasn't fully cooked and barely had anything on it. Walking in this place was so pretty! I was a little confused as to if I just sat anywhere and the server came to me or if I had to go to the front to wait in line for brunch but I was helped right away after that! Pistachio Cafe is a Syrian-inspired cafe that opened in New Haven, Connecticut in August 2020. It was founded by Syrian-born architect and artist Mohamad Hafez. He came to the United States in 2003 on a visa to study architecture. In 2019, Hafez left his job at the architecture firm Packard Chilton, where he was working approximately 80 hours a week. After a two-month trip abroad, he contacted Luke and Mistina Hanscom at Lotta Studio about the possibility of opening his own cafe. Hafez has been making and drinking coffee since he was 12 and his family even owned a coffee shop in Chicago. A space opened up in New Haven's Westville neighborhood and Hafez moved in. Pistachio Cafe not only celebrates Westville, but also serves as a tribute to Damascus: a city once filled with cafes before the Syrian Civil War tore it apart. The interior design of the cafe pays tribute to the old sitting rooms of Syria, Lebanon and Turkey with hints of French Baroque and English Victorian style. Hafez sources much of the cafe's food and beverages from local refugee and immigrant chefs. My family and I recently stopped at Pistachio Cafe on New Year's Eve. We were looking for some dessert after a pizza dinner. All of our favorite Italian pastry shops were closed, but I remembered hearing about Pistachio and that they had good desserts. We thought that the interior was absolutely beautiful! We loved the nod to Middle Eastern cafes with hints of French Baroque. There were so many delicious desserts and baked goods to choose from: muffins, scones, cakes, baklavas, hareeseh, ballourie, tarts, crème brûlées, etc. We decided to order some slices of cake: Pistachio Ricotta for my wife, Selva Nera (Black Forest) for my son, and Limoncello Raspberry for myself. These cakes were so delicious! To drink, I ordered a "Gingerbread Latte" (gingerbread syrup with espresso, choice of milk, topped with cinnamon). It was a very fitting coffee for the season. We all had a lovely time at Pistachio Cafe and look forward to returning; we'd really like to go back for Brunch! read more

OK. There have been times when I've visited and simple desserts like macarons and baklava have had that I've-been-in-the-fridge-too-long kind of staleness and the service has remained sub-par. (I'm thinking of a specific staff member who gives an attitude no matter when she's behind the counter, including when she got my beverage incorrect on more than one try.) But this particular visit this particular day was far better than ones I've had in the past. The service was super friendlier and more attentive and the London Fog and chocolate croissant were delicious (and the other half of the croissant kept well in the fridge overnight for a second round of enjoyment). Nut allergy warning: said chocolate croissant has Nutella inside. I'm lucky I don't have nut allergies but for someone who does, Pistachio might want to either post something highly visible that warns all desserts and pastries may have nuts or nut products--either that or label which specific food items do. Some of the worst service I ever received- waitress just kept walking by us, serving others and ignoring us. Seated at 12:30- same time as another couple- my order not even taken until 45 minutes later and they couple had ordered, eaten paid and left before they could be bothered to come to our table, despite flitting around but even my "excuse me" was ignored and eye contact impossibe to even get the waitress' attention. If everyone was on a wait I would have been more understanding- had to go up to the counter and ask for service as we were ignored when trying to flag down the waitress. No apology when I explained it took 1 hr 15 minutes to get our sandwhiches. I would give them another try the grilled cheese was delicious but 2 hours for a grilled cheese and a turkey sandwich is not good. Turkey was not good. Place: This place was a 10/10 like the interior design is so unique. When I went inside there were old radios mounted onto the wall. It has a nice charm and there is a cafe/study side and a restaurant side. Service: The service was good. There are so many drink and dessert to choose from so my friend and I was kinda lost. The barista told us to go out of our comfort zone and if we did not like it she will make another one. Even saying that was very sweet of her. Food/price: The drink I got was an almond latte and my friend got the lavender rose latte. I tried both. I personally prefer the almond latte because it has a nice "burnt" taste and the lavender rose is more sweet. Audience: Great for everyone. It is a bit of a drive from campus but I think it is worth the drive. A lot of families and young professionals were here. Recommend/tips? I would highly recommend this place for those that want to get some work done or just want to go a cafe with a nice vibe. read more

This cafe was adorable. Nestled on a corner in lovely Westville, it was a great Saturday morning adventure. We ordered at the counter and were able to quickly grab a table for four in the cafe area, rather than the seated brunch area. The staff was so nice and helpful (albeit busy as most baristas as bustling cafes are). We had pistachio lattes, peppermint hot chocolate and some treats. What a treat to get this serendipitous opportunity to visit Pistachio Cafe! We were en route to Boston from NY and made a stop in New Haven, Connecticut, to connect with family. Wow, to just walk into this place and feel like time had been put on pause was an experience in its own right. The food was delish, as well as an interesting assortment of new flavors for me, given not from the cultural palate. The ppl who worked there went out of their way to accommodate us. Even a visit to the bathroom and its decor generated conversation upon returning to our table. I'll keep this short, the wait was horrendous. We was told 20 minutes, it took a hour to have a seat. It took another hour to get the food. We had to ask the waitress twice before we had an update. They were great with their apologies but this place needs better management. The food and drinks were pretty but don't match with taste. The waffle was cold after such a long wait and the shawarma was bland. This place may be instagram pretty for pictures but the food and wait isn't worth it. We bought a few pastries and a fruit smoothie. That was the only decent thing that was there. The place is pretty and has a cool display of old appliances. Finally had a chance to check this cafe out over the weekend. The cafe is a-lot larger on the inside than it looks. Get there early if you want to find a seat and enjoy your coffee and meal. Great atmosphere and decor. There are plenty of drink and food options. The staff was very nice and answered all our inquiries. Not sure if service was slow due to it being busy the day we were there or if there was an issue with ordering items online. The interior of this place is so beautifully decorated, you feel calm and welcome as soon as you walk in. The staff were also very kind an polite. There are lots of different spaces to cozy up from tables and benches to couches and comfortable armchairs. There's also free Wi-fi but you'll have to do a little searching to find an outlet if you're planning to stay. I ordered a chai latte and the ballourie (pistachio baklava). Sadly, they were out of chai, but the server recommended a spiced latte instead. I came around 6:30 and was excited to get a little work done since the cafe is open late. But unfortunately, they closed early due to being understaffed. By the time I received my drink, they were about to close and I had to take it to go. My server was kind enough to upgrade my drink order to a large free of charge because of the wait but it was a bit disappointing in terms of flavor, I like my spiced drinks to have the depth and richness of the spices but this one was a bit bland. I understand that understaffing and running out of ingredients happen sometimes, but seeing other reviews, it seems like disorganization is more of a pattern than a coincidence so just wanted to put that as a caution.
