As America's most traveled human, I've seen just about everything in the United States and set records in the process. But there was one thing I had never done, and that's McGinn's PistachioLand. Now imagine that you've responsibly booked a farm tour of McGinn's six months in advance and driven over 2,000 miles to complete this bucket list goal. You've even signed the waiver they texted you 45 minutes before lining up for the first tour of the day. You're ready for a unique adventure. And then, 15 minutes before you're ready to take the tour, McGinn's notifies you that the tour has been cancelled because tour guide Garret is unavailable. Really? This is allowed? If you live down the street from PistachioLand, this isn't a big deal. Take the tour some other day. But if you've driven all the way across the country for this, only to receive news of a cancellation with 15 minutes notice, I cannot imagine that the risk of visiting PistachioLand is worth it. Their farm store is neat. Pictures next to the gimmicky giant pistachio are cool. But the highlight of your visit would certainly be a tour of the actual pistachio groves. And when they're allowed to unabashedly cancel on you with essentially no notice after spending a great deal of money and effort to get there, this particular point of interest is just not worth visiting. read more

When you are driving down the highway and see the world's largest pistachio, you have to stop. We arrived just as a farm tour was starting. $5 per head (2026 rates). Takes about 20 minutes. You get a tour of the pistachio orchard and the grape arbor. Yes - they also make wine here. All I really got out of it was the wonderment why the hell Re they trying to grow pistachios and grapes in the middle of the desert? Neither are native plants. It's a hostile environment for both plants. Each grape vine needs 40 gallons of water per week to survive. The pistachio trees have to be grafted to survive. I guess the only good thing is they will never become invasive because they would not survive on their own in this environment. read more

If you are able to, I'd try to figure out how to get here when they first open to avoid large crowds. This is a popular tourist spot to visit and it will fill up rather quickly. We had arrived just after opening and thankfully grabbed a parking spot right in front. They had a large selection of nuts, salsas, hot sauces, fudge, and more along with lots of tourist type items like key chains, magnets, clothing, and even some alien themed goods. Some of the prices were a little high and others were decent; it is about what you would expect from a high traffic spot like this. In the store you can find a spot where you can sample a variety of pistachio flavors before you try them. It was kind of funny seeing the favorites and the flavors people seem to avoid based on how full/empty the tubes were. They also give samples of the fudge & some flavored dips, plus if you are of age you can sample wine as well. I was really hoping to grab some of their ice cream, but we were a bit too early as the ice cream parlor doesn't open until 10am but the store is open at 9am. We had a schedule to keep on our trip, so we couldn't stay later. We didn't take the tour so I can't comment on that. There are bathrooms inside that were clean when we went in. read more

Fun! We enjoyed a few hours here, perusing the store, tasting wines, sampling lots of pistachios! and riding on the tour of the pistachio fields ($5). We learned a lot we didn't know about pistachios, and overall found our time there worth the drive. I would recommend seeing the White Sands area as well while you're going that way, which makes for a great day trip from Las Cruces. We walked out with a variety of pistachios, and even a fun coloring book. Be sure to try the ice cream! read more

PistachioLand is great fun! Located just a bit further north than its sister shop also in Alamogordo, NM, this farm/vineyard/shop is now my hands-down favorite of all the pistachio farms. SIDE NOTE So everyone on Yelp gets this location and the aforementioned sister shop mixed up. The sister shop is at 37 US-82, Alamogordo, NM 88310 and it has the giant ALAMOGORDO letters out front. This has the cooler giant pistachio. Visit both even if just for the Americana vibes & Instagram-worthy photos. My favorite was picking out yummy treats for friends and family. Samples of many items were available. You can't miss the GIANT pistachio out front. The vineyard is also visible from the highway. For restrooms, there are Porta potties near the back parking lot and flush restrooms inside for disabled persons. The ice cream shop is outside beyond the store. My oldest enjoyed chocolate. My youngest loved her peppermint bark. Each single scoop cups costed $4.94. Pup cups are free upon request. Giant Pistachio roadside attraction that is also so much more. It's a bit like the Mystery Spot or Pea Soup Andersons in California, we kept seeing signs for this stop along the freeway and by the time we actually drove by the giant pistachio it felt like we had to stop. They have a surprising amount of PistachioLand merchandise and also offer farm tours and goods and foods from other parts of New Mexico. It's also surprisingly large inside so it may turn a quick stop into something longer. -Large amount of shelled and unshelled pistachios for sale in a variety of flavors. They have free self-serve samples of all the flavors and some of them were unique like green chili, spicy ranch, and spicy dill. -Ozzy was here as part of the Ozzy and Jack world tour and invented his own flavor "Ozzy's Nuts". Staff said it didn't taste good so it's not for sale, the flavor Kelly invented is still for sale. read more

Pistachio land is a must visit, one of the best road stops in southern New Mexico. They have all kinds of goodies, including some of the best ice cream around. They serve bluebell, but they also have a few flavors that are their own in house made. I really loved the pineapple one, but of course the pistachio is also very good. They have a huge selection of different treats, including really good pistachio brittle. Additionally, of course they have the giant pistachio outside that you just have to take a picture with. This is one of those little road side attractions that is always worth a stop. read more

Quite gimmicky, but had to stop by anyway. They have many free pistachio samples available (enjoyed the spicy ranch and honey flavored ones). On my way out, I saw many people lined up for the free wine samples, but decided to pass. Waited in the long, but quickly-moving line for ice cream. Got a scoop of pistachio ice cream, which had a decent amount of pistachio halves. They say it's made in-house, and it's definitely artificially flavored and artificially colored. I an certain of the latter, since my messy self dripped some on my shirt, and attempting to wash it out resulted in a deep yellow stain :"( Didn't take a tour, but can book via Viator, or in-person at the checkout counter. All souvenir shops are overpriced and $5 for a single chocolate covered pecan is atrocious. The big pistachio is gimmicky too but there are some interesting souvenirs here if you look closely. Some interesting goods include roadkill jerky, hatch chile hot sauces, prickly pear candies and different flavored pistachios grown straight from the farm. They have wine tastings which I didn't get to try and I was kinda annoyed because I left my wallet at the airbnb I was staying at and they refused me a small sample of wine even though I'm clearly of age. But what can you expect in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico. At least the bathrooms were decently clean and the place can double as a rest stop if you're on the move. The funny part is that my partner and I were at checkout and the girl at the counter gave us the military discount because our family (who are military) was on the premises. Super cute spot. 1980 they started the farm. I took the tour guide and it was cool to do for a first timer. They have tons of sampling inside, which I love since I don't want to buy anything I can't taste first. Wine tasting is FREE! You get 4 choices. We ended up buying the pistachio wine from them. Had to, right?! Pistachio ice cream is so good! They do have a check-in offer for two dollars for ice cream but they do not honor it. I repeat they do not honor the check in on Yelp. This is a fun roadside stop near White Sands NP! There's a grove of pistachio trees and a giant pistachio sculpture. There's a large store selling all sorts of flavored pistachios and you can sample the different flavors. Awesome place to spot on the way from ABQ to white sands or vice versa. They have a huge pistachio statue out front, so you can't miss it. There are lots of pistachio flavors to sample and buy. The store is quite large. I bought several bags as gifts. Their ice cream shop is right outside and the portions are extremely generous. A favorite spot to stop at on our way from cloudcroft or a place to visit from El Paso. They have a pistachios novelty shop and wine tasting bar inside. You can also enjoy some pistachios ice cream outside while you wait on the guided tour of the property or just take in the sun next to the huge pistachio statue outside. This is a great place to stop if you like Quirky things like we do. We weren't going to go in the store but my son saw ice cream. The store is huge and the prices are high. If you check in with yelp you will get a 4 oz bag of pistachios and you can pick the flavor. You have to spend $15 to get it. I wouldn't bother with the ice cream it's nothing special it's Blue Bell just the cheap ice cream you get at the grocery store. I am gonna say take the tour it's only $3 bucks, every hour on the hour and takes maybe 20 mins and Emilio rock it and it really shows he truly takes pride in what he does. He was very passionate about explaining everything to you. On our particular tour it was only two of us, and he went all out just like if he had a full group. I never knew they were so much to growing pistachios. It was very interesting. He also go through the wine vineyards on the tour and he touches on that as well. Great weekend trip. We decided to stop at PistachioLand. We decided to take the tour and Tara was very knowledgeable about pistachios and wine making. I recommend doing the tour while Tara is the guide, she is friendly and enthusiastic! After the tour we decided to go inside the store to get some pistachios (garlic, pickle, lemon flavor, pistachio brittle, Wine ( Sweet Clarisa and pomegranate), and chicharrones (sour cream and onion, ranch, and buttery). For the wine, they have member exclusive deals. We received a 10% for buying two bottle of wines, they offer more discounts. The store is clean and packed of many tourists and they also have other souvenirs like magnets, tiles, clothing, salsa, candy, and much more. Found this place on Yelp and decided to stop here after eating lunch to get some pistachios. You really can't miss this place because they have a large pistachios statue outside! While walking in there is a nice lady that gave us some free samples to try some of their new flavors. After that, we decided to look around and buy a ton of different pistachio flavors. I mainly gave this as gifts and it's semi-healthy and who doesn't love pistachios? They have different sizes for the amount so you can buy large bags or small sizes it's up to you. After spending a certain amount we for a small pisatchio globe that has the pistachio statue inside and also the state where we got it from.
