That morning we found a mama possum who very recently died in front of the nest she prepared for her babies. She had been injured. We called the center and spoke with Mike (I think that was his name). I was prepared for a negative and rude response as I had received in a previous call a few years back when calling about an injured bird. Instead, Mike was concerned and asked me to bring the baby possums right in. I was not prepared for this kind and caring response so I continued to advocate on behalf of the possum babies. He was very kind and again encouraged me to bring them in. When we arrived, Wendy was expecting us and immediately took charge. She confirmed that the mama was recently deceased and checked the pouch for any babies. She then checked the nest as we had brought in the entire nest thinking that there were only 4 babies hidden. Wendy found 11 babies. She had already set up an area for them to be placed in the center. Meanwhile she provided great information on possums and the wildlife center. She also provided information on the plan of care. It was truly an amazing experience and my heart was lifted knowing the babies were in such great hands. She takes my dog for walks when we are on vacation and she cleans my kitty room very well. She also writes daily summaries of the activity each day. The rules are simple you visit the shelter, you see a dog or cat that you interested in, you put in an application only for that particular animal. You have a meet and greet with put a deposit down. They will contact you once you are approved. Our dog is already chipped and neutered and they sent us away with a little food and a free veterinarian exam. So we have an appointment to establish a local veterinarian. The place is well run, the staff is nice, and the animals are well cared for. I would recommend checking them out. They have stat sheets on all the animals.

We submitted an application and reached out on Facebook to have an even faster adoption process AND we also went to their event the following weekend (we were DETERMINED). Lots of great communication. We did have minor hiccups that could've impacted our process (our kitten isn't neutered yet) however I was able to schedule that with them which is awesome! We were able to pay the adoption fee and neuter appointment through Venmo which is super convenient. Marisa and Trina were extremely helpful and knowledgeable and just SO kind!!!! We will definitely adopt from SKN again once we have a bigger home :)

I found Solano Kitten Network while looking for an affordable spay/neuter surgery for my sister's…read morekitten in 2023. I believe I found them on Facebook through one of the community pet pages. They're one of the most affordable in the area. As of 2024, the price was $125/spay and $100/neuter. I think they have a lot of frequent availability with appointments almost every week. The price includes transport and an optional FVRCP vaccine. You contact someone (Kathy) through Facebook messenger. She's very responsive. You give basic info like the name of the cat, person, phone number, description of the cat, etc. Then it's pre-pay through Venmo. Very easy. When the appointment is closer they created a group text thread with all the information like drop off location/time and an estimated pick up. You will need a hard carrier for transport. Drop off is pretty early. Like 5:45AM in Dixon. Pick up was the afternoon around 3PM. Sometimes it can be earlier or later. They had a foster help hold onto my sister's kitten after the surgery when she got into an accident and was late to pick up. Really good people. This group does amazing work helping the community get their cats fixed at an affordable rate! As you can see in the video Bergie healed just fine. You also get a certificate for the surgery and a cute/funny "my bloodline ends with me" ribbon.

We got our french bulldog from Joe in 2012. She has been perfectly healthy and according to our…read morevet, does not suffer from any of the typical health issues that come with the breed - except allergies. That said, the vet office was full of red itchy bulldogs the first time we went for a visit. This is not a reflection of the breeder, but a issue that is common with almost all frenchies. A bulldog is a labor of love and anyone who purchases a one should be fully aware that they cost more and are more labor intensive for this reason - but they are Oh, so worth it. We love our bully and my interaction with Joe was professional and he was quick to follow up about our dogs allergies when we had to make changes to her diet. He is very knowlegable about the breed and is happy to help you after you go home with your dog. He was prompt in returning my emails and phone calls and provided food and training recommendations. After changing the type of food we were feeding our dog, her allergies are now limited to seasonal ones and I cannot remember the last time we had to visit the vet. I also want to add that I was impressed with the behavior of all of Joe's dogs when we went to pick up our dog. They were well behaved and docile - this is so important as the first few months really shape the temperment of a puppy. It is so important when you select a stronger breed like a bulldog that they are well cared for and trained properly. For this reason, I greatly disagree with the review below for several reasons. I have purchased a dog from a low quality breeder and have dealt with all kinds of behavioral issues as a result. This dachshund breeder gave us a puppy that was too young and has had lasting behavioral issues because of this. Therefor, I was very conscious to observe how the dogs were being cared for and observe the behavior of Joe's adult dogs, personal dogs as well as the puppies for sale. We were allowed to see all of the dogs, however, it is generally not a good idea to meet your potential puppy with 10 other dogs present. For this reason, Joe let out a few puppies for us to observe and also allowed the mother and a couple of adult dogs out out so we could observe their interactions. Joe also helped facilitate as we observed how each dog interacted with our children. As the reviewer stated below about the dogs not being "ready"- If a breeder says that a puppy is not ready, you should listen to that, as taking a puppy from their litter too early can have disasterous effects on their behavior. Health issues are common with bulldogs and one should be prepared to have more vet bills for this reason. This is not always due to breeding, but has to do with the fact that they have short muzzles and have breathing problems as a result. Our vet, who specializes in brachycephalic breeds, said that it is important to keep your dog at a healthy weight, something Joe also recommended, due to having a shorter snout as it will help mitigate breathing issues. If any dog does have major defects, Joe stands behind his dogs as stated in his contract. A high quality breeder provides ongoing support after you take your dog home and I appreciate the help Joe provided in helping us identify our dogs food allergy and the numerous recommendations he made about different kinds of food. I highly recommend Left Coast Bulldogs if you are considering getting a Frenchie.
