Unpleasant surprise today. After 7 years of steady business with Pittman for maintenance, as well as completely new HVAC system and later a Reme Halo air purifier, got a previously undisclosed $140 evaluation fee when no repair was found to be needed on Halo unit. Was told that this fee applies to all jobs, large and small. We live less than five miles from Pittman's office, and evaluation took about 10 minutes ... but we still get the same fee as for million-dollar homes surrounding the area's posh lake communities? Does not sound reasonable or fair. Guess we need a new electrician for those annual maintenance calls and major equipment installs, since Pittman doesn't seem to care about retirees on limited budgets. read more

Another positive experience with a contractor as we get acclimated to the Upstate! After arriving at our home at 9 PM after traveling from New Jersey, we were confronted with the fact that our AC was not working during the hot days of September. I looked up and contacted Pittman, left a message with their answering service, and within minutes a technician called to let me know I'd receive a call from the office at 8:30 AM the next morning. Like clockwork, I got a call at 8:30 AM and was told a technician would be there between 12 PM and 3 PM. At 12 PM the next day, I received a call that the technician was on his way. He arrived at 12:45, diagnosed the problem within minutes, and our AC was working within an hour. The responsiveness, the effectiveness, and the quality of the work was well worth the price paid! The next time - I hope it's not for a while - we have an HVAC issue, I'll be certain to call Pittman! They get an A+!! read more

Pittman replaced a new drain pan under my attic HVAC. Not only did they overcharge me but 2 weeks later when i was out of town, there was water overflowing through the ceiling. They gave a long explanation of how the drain line clogged and the float switch worked, and there was no responsibility for my damaged ceiling. Then they tried to upswell me on a new unit for thousands of dollars. I had another licensed HVAC person look and they said there was no way that they didn't mess something up that lead to the drain pan overflowing. DO NOT USE!! read more

Two strikes and they're out! Couple years back my a/c went out. Service tech shows up, does some work and gets it up and running--for about $300. A day later the a/c goes out again. This time I go out there and see that the guy had removed the hard start unit. So I went and bought one, installed it, and the system has run fine for two more years. Fast forward to May 2016. Entire system finally gave up the ghost and needs replaced. Figuring I'd give Pittman a second chance, I called and they send a guy to give me an estimate. This guy did not take a single measurement of the house. He didn't care how much of the basement was underground. He didn't care in which direction the house faced. He didn't pay attention to the number of windows and which direction they face. Folks, this is basic stuff that needs to be considered in order to make an intelligent decision on a new HVAC system. I had to basically drag him upstairs so he could actually see how much space was up there that needs to be heated and cooled. Estimated cost for his least expensive option: over $9000. I guess he was willing to just rely on the size of the previous unit which was installed over 20 years ago. But for 9 grand, I expect measurements to be taken, heat loads to be calculated, and some thought be given to the size and configuration of the system. To estimate a new HVAC system without doing a single measurement of any kind is unprofessional and unacceptable. Sorry Pittman: two strikes and you're out. read more

I used this company in the past and had good experiences, so I tried them when I had a problem at my new address. I was told by the technician who came out that the capacitor had a short and needed replacing. The charge was $250. After he left, a new problem developed: the outside unit started freezing up (which it had never done in the 3.5 years I've owned the home). I called again and someone different came out. He said there was a coil leak and he had to put Freon in. The charge for that visit was $180. The technician told me the air handler was too old and needed replacing. He said the outside unit also needed replacing even though it is only 6-7 years old because new units can't use Freon. He estimated my cost would be $10,000-14,000 for my 800 square foot home. He made sure to set an appointment for me with the estimator. The unit froze up again after he left, so I called once again. The technician on call returned my call. I explained that the problem was not fixed and I was considering stopping payment on the check. He offered to come out the next day to take a look. He let me know after he came back that he had initially installed the wrong capacitor and it was pulling too many amps. (He said he was the "senior" technician, so why did he put in the wrong part? I'm surprised he admitted it.) He installed the correct capacitor and said he wasn't going to charge me! Not only should I not have been charged for his third visit, but I shouldn't have been charged for the second visit because the problem was created by the wrong part being installed!
