TL;DR version -- avoid Dr. Andrew Jones at this practice…read more I'm writing this review on behalf of my mother, who was treated by nurse practitioners and PA's in this office for 8 years but earlier this year after the treatment she had received prior no longer worked and she had extreme pain, she was advised to see a doctor. I will start by saying my father has also seen Dr. Jones a few times and actually had him perform a total right knee replacement earlier this year and has had a full recovery. Outside of Jones being illusive in answering the question on when my dad could begin driving again in a post-op visit, he had a mostly positive experience with him. But after the experience my mom had, he's considering leaving Jones' care as well. At her first visit with Jones, he diagnosed her hip condition advised PT and exercise. She went to PT and as they started to work with her, she again experienced severe pain and the PT advised an MRI and to have someone with an unbiased opinion review as she didn't think the pain was in her hip but in her back. My mom did as she suggested and had Dr. Matthews (in this practice) review the MRI who diagnosed her with a few back problems and advised that she see a pain specialist. My mom scheduled the earliest available appointment, 2+ months later. She scheduled another appt. with Jones to discuss her pain in the interim. My mom went in and asked the simple question, "is the pain being caused by my hip or my back?" Well, it seems as though other medical professionals providing second opinions on patient care rubs this guy the wrong way. He was incredibly unprofessional, going on a tirade about the opioid epidemic in this country and essentially acused my mom of being a pill seeker. My mother can barely walk up the stairs and struggles sleeping through the night, I assure you she's simply seeking relief from her daily pain and to sleep better. He also demanded that she go sit in her PCP's office until they gave her sleeping pills (after this, she consulted with them and they told her it was Jones who had to manage the pain). My mother walked out in the midst of her appointment in tears and is now seeing a doctor outside of Frederick who is actively working with her to manage her pain and determining next steps in her treatment.

I'm very conflicted writing this review, but here it is:…read more First, the good: Dr. Gwinn is an excellent surgeon. He is clearly very skilled and knowledgeable, and he immediately instilled confidence. Having this surgery was a major decision, and Dr. Gwinn put me at ease, and I believe I made the right decision choosing him for this procedure. I also have nothing but good things to say about his PA. If you choose MMI, you will likely receive quality medical care. Now, the bad: Quite literally, everything else. I have never experienced this much frustration dealing with a medical office staff. Communication is pretty much nonexistent, and when you do reach someone, most of the time they pass the buck, say your issue is not their department, and then blind-transfer you to a voicemail box. That voicemail will not be returned. You will have to call back over and over again, and even after explaining that your voicemail was never returned, you will simply be blind transferred to the same voicemail again, ad nauseam. This is true of scheduling, medical questions and concerns, administrative issues, etc. This is beyond frustrating, especially while recovering from major surgery and navigating other issues such as FMLA concerns. Also, if you need any forms filled out, they will nickel-and-dime you. Need a one-pager stating that you are medically fit to return to work after FMLA, that's $10, need another form, that's $10, even if you download it digitally. I'm not really concerned about the small fee, but it seems petty, especially considering I'm continuing to have and pay for follow-ups with the doctor. It's just another example of a top-down culture that seems to be anything but customer-focused. Again, I'm grateful for the quality medical care I've received from Dr. Gwinn. That being said, I think the way this practice is run is detracting from that care. As frustrating as the totality of my experience has been with MMI, it's unlikely I would recommend the practice to a friend, family member, or colleague.

Dr. Levine was our go-to podiatrist for many years. Until our recent visit, he's been capable and…read morewarm--the doctor you hope you'll encounter when you have a problem. But our opinion of him has changed. Recently, we saw Dr. Levine to discuss some joint pain my wife was having. Dr. Levine said she had three options, in this order: 1) Surgery 2) An injection (I'm assuming cortisone) 3) Or wearing special shoes that would hopefully provide relief. We chose to try the shoes before surgery or a "shot." Dr. Levine told us to go to a shoe store called Shoe Fly in Frederick, MD, and buy a brand of "Hoka" walking shoes. I asked if the shoes were also sold on Amazon. Dr. Levine suddenly said, "Full disclosure: I have an ownership interest in Shoe Fly." Hmmm...wasn't that something he should have told us earlier? When I asked him that a couple of weeks later, he agreed, that was something that ethically he should have mentioned. So, a once very good doctor has apparently decided that being forthright about his "double dipping" from his patients is perfectly fine. It's not. People have a right to know that he profits from his patients' purchases made at that store. That way, they'll be more inclined to shop around for the best price. That's just common sense. Aside from this, my wife felt the overall treatment Dr. Levine provided wasn't satisfactory. She left in as much pain as she was in when she arrived, with instructions to buy expensive shoes at a store he owns to an extent (it must be a large extent, because he said his picture hangs on the wall). Our experience shows what may happen when doctors "operate" in their own little world, expecting that as doctors their patients will unquestionably follow their advice, as after all, they're the doctor. Sorry, it's a different world. People have more options. And they are better informed now thanks to the Internet (assuming they've visited reputable sites such as the Mayo Clinics' or Johns Hopkins', or the Cleveland Clinics'). And they may no longer blindly follow their doctors' advice without asking some questions. Our acupuncturist told us at our first appointment that: "You must be your own doctor." You have the right and responsibility to question a doctor about anything you don't understand, or whatever treatment options you may have. It's your health after all, and no one is more interested in that than you.

Thank heavens it was Dr. Kowalk! He explained the injury to me very well and the surgery that was highly recommended/necessary to fix it. My surgery went smoothly with screws and plates installed and he monitored my recovery as well. As early as 3 months after the surgery I was back to taking walks and shortly thereafter was back to vigorous activity at the gym. My ankle is as close to perfect as I can imagine after such a serious injury. I am forever grateful for the person who fixed it. He did a tremendously good job.

If I ever exercise, I need to put on Biofreeze on my back to numb the pain. Then I went to Brian at Red Canyon who was referred by my neighbor because I was planning to get pregnant at 40 years old. I thought there was no way that I can carry a baby full term with a back in that condition. He diagnosed my long-term problem the first session and came up with a plan from the first session. No time/money wasted! He used dry needles and I could feel the pressure released from my back. That felt like 20 years of pressure released! He also gave me instructions to work on my core and back. Within 4 sessions, my pain went away 80%. And with the next couple of sessions, I became pain free 100%. Now I can go to the gym ever day and do weight lifting without any pain in my back! Sometimes I feel mad that I waited so long before I went to see Brian! Highly highly recommended!

My "physical therapy" appointment consisted of the therapist showing me how to use a walker and how to use a cane. No actual therapy was conducted. If I didn't already know how to use a walker and a cane, I could have looked it up on the Internet. I was also told on the day of my appointment that they was no co-pay; however, I am being billed 40 co-pay. The billing by FMH Aspen Ridge to my insurance company was $323. This seems quite excessive for showing someone how to use a cane or a walker. If I even need PT again, I would certainly not choose Aspen Ridge.
