A Very Special Day - Drapery and Lighting from wedding event at Dallas Arboretum. Rosine Hall

    A Very Special Day

Richard was the DJ for my wedding and did all the lighting as well. I can't recommend him enough!…read more I'd say he was one of the easiest vendors to work with throughout the whole planning ordeal, if not THE easiest (ok toss up between him and the Palomar). As for the lighting, he took a rather unappealing ceremony location and made it look like something out of a fairytale. The ballroom for the reception was just how I was picturing it in my head. The DJ'ing was great. He kept the crowd into it and came across as just a genuinely nice guy, not jerky or cheesy. He also had an even better greek music selection than I did for the big fat greek wedding portions, so that was much appreciated!! My only two small complaints were 1) that our first dance song was started before we could get to the dance floor so we missed the start cue we had been practicing, and 2) that he chose an Elvis medley to play instead of individual songs, but I guess it was better in the interest of time...oh well. Small details. I would have no reservations recommending him to anyone for their wedding or special event!

I have worked with Richard and his team before, so it's no wonder I didn't search for my wedding DJ…read moreand entertainer. He's so much more than a DJ. Here's the Top 10 reasons, A Very Special Day was my first choice and why I will always use Richard in the future... 1) HE'S MORE LIKE A HOST/EMCEE. AVSD engages folks and makes your guests laugh - Even the stale Aunt that you didn't want to invite. I have seen ten, too many, DJ's claim to be great and have seen all of them come off as unprofessional, unknowledgeable and...lame. This crew should be categorized as a "HOST." The music is just bonus. 2) YOUR WEDDING WILL NOT BE PERFECT. Sorry to break it to you. Crap happens. But, with Richard, he'll roll with the punches and you'll wonder why he didn't charge you double. Wedding mascot shows up two hours early? Richard has it covered. He reacted calmly and quickly -- And I didn't have a wedding planner so it was just me and him. He handled the change-up like a pro. 3) HE WILL TELL YOU THINGS YOU FORGOT ABOUT. Did you know that your DJ/Emcee/Entertainer/Host will also keep you on point with wedding etiquette? Richard OWNS his events and there were several times I thought what a waste it would be to have a day-of or wedding day coordinator because I had him. If you DO have a wedding day coordinator, you'll probably coast into your honeymoon even more easily. Kudos for you. Don't have that? Call Richard, you'll be fine. :) 4) Richard "plays well" with ALL vendors. In fact, my videographer and photographer kept going to and working with him. He even came up with an idea I'd never seen before to keep my guests from waiting in line -- and having fun -- while food was being served. Priceless. If you have specific questions, I'm happy to have you email me direct at jrbronze@gmail.com and I will personally address specifics on why he's the only choice when it comes to wedding entertainment. Seriously, email me. AVSD is dynamite!!

As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a lovely sweet young lady and a bunch of prizes. You pay, sign the waivers and walk on it. We went on Father's Day so it was completely empty but that made it soooo much more fun! My 4 year old son had a blast going on the slide over and over again! My husband and I even got to jump around! This establishment is definitely family owned. Each child is $10 and adults free. My infant did not pay since she doesn't even crawl. $10 for a great time and a couple of hours just around the corner of our home, SURE! Will definitely be back again! If you are even considering this as an option, I would look elsewhere. 1) The place is extremely dirty on the outside and the inside. There was cake all over the ground outside that you could tell had been there for a very long time. Inside is even worse. The bounce houses were very dirty and you could tell had not been cleaned in a very long time. Inside the INFANT bounce house, there were little small balloons that could have easily been picked up and swallowed. Please see photos as a reference. 2) Through half of the "Play area" is exposed concrete where multiple kids fell and hurt themselves due the hard cutoffs between foam pad and concrete. Please see photos as a reference. 3) There was no air conditioning in this place at all. There were several roll in space air conditioners that were not doing the job even remotely. In the beginning of August it is simply not enough. 4) The bounce houses started falling down 3 separate times while children were inside of them. More than a few bounce houses are all plugged into the same surge protector and popped the breaker all 3 times. No where near safe in this environment. Additionally, a few of these bounce houses had GIANT holes in them with some being covered in tape and some not. 5) Exactly 1 of the games "worked" and I use that term lightly as the wheel on the machine was completely broken. 6) This place had no where near adequate lighting. Over half of the lights were completely out and other half were barely working as is. Please see photos as a reference. 7) There was a popcorn machine with popcorn in it and all the kids were asking to have some so once we actually looked at the popcorn inside, it was very clear it had been there for weeks and possibly months. Save your time. Spend your money elsewhere.

However, my experience working with Sandra and her staff was extremely concerning due to a consistent lack of professionalism and customer service. In hindsight, after reading other reviews from patrons, I should have realized there might be issues. My first red flag was the tasting. It was rescheduled, and when we finally met at 6:00 p.m., the food was not ready. That should have been an indication of what was to come. On the day of the Quinceañera, I was informed early on that Sandra was already in a bad mood -- and the event hadn't even started. When I arrived at the ballroom, the main entrance doors were covered with wooden boards instead of glass. It looked unfinished and unappealing, which was embarrassing for such an important event. Inside, while the setup was mostly complete, the food service area appeared unclean. The event was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., but when I asked about the food timing, Sandra insisted we had agreed on 6:00 p.m. Even then, only half of the food arrived at 6:39 p.m., and it was quickly depleted since guests had already been waiting. I tried to be understanding, assuming perhaps there was a miscommunication. However, the remainder of the food did not arrive until 7:25 p.m., which is simply unacceptable for a formal event. Additionally, several guests informed me that when they asked for a different dish (we had two entrée options), they were told they could not have the second option until the pasta was finished. When I questioned this, Sandra responded with a loud and rude tone. She then stated that I needed to provide the remaining balance immediately or she would stop serving food. That level of conduct is completely inappropriate in any customer service setting. As someone who works in hospitality, I understand the importance of professionalism, communication, and service standards -- especially during milestone celebrations. Unfortunately, this experience reflected a significant lack of all three. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Sandra or her staff for such an important event.
