The details were impeccable, from the wallpaper and sconces to the antique decor. We loved the two person jacuzzi tub, it let us relax and stay warm on a very chilly night! I especially love that breakfast was delivered and we got to eat it on the original benches in the train car. This was a truly spectacular experience. I highly recommend it! The only piece of feedback I have is that the website should make it much more clear that the train whistles can be heard at all hours of the night. We're pretty deep sleepers and only woke up once, but they are LOUD and honestly, if you're a light sleeper, this is not the place for you. That being said, I looked into reviews ahead of time and knew to prepare for this, but the owners should do this as well.

It was nice having a couch and chairs that I could relax on rather than just having to sit on the bed. The odd thing to me, however, was that there's no closet and no great place to put your luggage. I think even a freestanding luggage rack would go a long way. They did have someplace to hang your clothes, but I do prefer an enclosed closet to cut down a clutter. I ended up putting my suitcase on a table. The breakfast selection was good. Very similar to other hotels like it. My biggest disappointment is that the associated restaurant is no longer open. It would be nice to wind down the evening with a glass of wine and a snack, but you can't have everything.

But my lady friend and I did our homework and checked our sources. We were told this was a great spot. Our sources had it right! The Brookside Motel doesn't offer a continental breakfast. Nor is there a swimming pool. But they offer many other things. Free cable T.V. with a lot more channels than I expected. A coffee maker, mini fridge, and a microwave was provided too. The towels are thick and our room was kept vey clean. Also the beds are comfortable. I slept like a baby. It had the look and feel of a cabin. Which we both loved! The lady we dealt with, owned the motel with her husband. She was a wonderful hostess!!!! We couldn't thank her enough. If I'm ever in Wadena again, I'll make a return trip to the Brookside Motel.

My family and I stayed here last week. Usually when you come to a resort, you are greeted by the…read moreowner, someone who tells you about the grill, if they recycle, and any other activities that may be offered. We were suppose to rent a pontoon from this resort and he said he would have it in the water for us on Monday, no boat! Called him several times, and left messages, no return phone calls. His wife would always say something but nothing to help us. We finally ended up going to another resort for a boat. We also had to steal the grill from 2 cabins down where thank god nobody was staying so we could grill out. We also had to buy our own TP. It was an ok cabin and nice view of the lake but I wouldn't recommend going somewhere where the owner doesn't say a word nor does he return phone calls. He sent his wife down the day before we left to finish collecting what we owed for the week. She said his back had been hurting and if that was the case, why was nothing said in the beginning. I have never been so disappointed. We won't be going back!!!
