We were visiting from out of town. We asked some locals and they recommended this place and another one. We saw the on line reviews, and since we really wanted NY-style pizza, this was the winner. The value for what you get is very good. The flavor of the pizza is good. In addition, they only have bottled soda or water. The staff just assumes you know what they have available and the menu is on the wall. The biggest objection I had: the place needs to be cleaned!! like honest to goodness, close for a day and hose the place down. My husband used the bathroom and told me to avoid it. Love the pizza but was very disappointed with the inconsistency of their policy regarding under 18 in bar area. I recently visited Pizza Al's Bar in Star City by the coliseum with my two-year-old grandchild, only to be asked to leave because of their "no one under 18" policy. While I respect the right of any establishment to enforce its rules, I was frustrated to see that there were at least six other children, roughly between the ages of 8 and 12, still in the bar. When I asked why the rule was being applied inconsistently, I was told that ownership didn't want babies there because they cry. To make matters worse, I was told I could go to the other side of the establishment. However, the whole reason I was there was to be with friends, and I didn't want to be ostracized. If the policy truly prohibits anyone under 18, then it should be enforced consistently--not selectively based on personal assumptions about how a child might behave. This kind of arbitrary enforcement makes for an unwelcoming and unfair experience. Families should be aware that, despite the posted rules, enforcement appears to be based on the whims of management rather than any clear standard. I won't be returning. read more

This restaurant is located in the vincinty of the WVU campus and a hospital. I came here during the pandemic so, my options were limited. The place did not have a dine in option. You could order carry out via the phone or by walking in. There is not a ton of parking there and the staff was not overly friendly, they were not rude, but I would say that it was not first class service. They do not have any specialty pizzas so you also have to craft your own, al a carte style, from the toppings they have available. The pizza was ok. Found a NY Style pizza place in Morgantown. I ordered my usual with sausage, pepperoni, and onion with Parmesan cheese sprinkled all around. It did not disappoint. The crust was thin as it should be with a nice slightly sweet tangy sauce. The sausage was homemade and grated or crumbled. It has a nice Italian spiciness to it which I really like. Located literally right next to a Little Caesar's and I'm positive they have zero things to worry about from the chain. This is definitely a take out spot. Sure there are a few tiny tables you could utilize but it's not really a dining in environment. They have beer though so that's a bonus if you're eating there. Husband and I got a large pepperoni and hot pepper pizza as well as a grilled chicken salad. First, the large is ridiculously huge. It's 20" and a typical large pie elsewhere is maybe 16". The box won't fit in your fridge and two people aren't putting a dent in this large pizza. We definitely tried though because the pizza was amazing. It's thin and floppy New York style. The sauce and cheese to crust ratio is perfect. The toppings are fresh sand not overwhelming. The salad was also super fresh and the chicken was delicious. They give you a big dressing cup to go with your salad. We will definitely be back to get pizza again and also to try the subs. Really good, straight forward pizza. read more

I typically would take partial responsibility for this because unfortunately, my husband did not check the order prior to bringing it home. However, after contacting the Manager, as well as the Owner, as well as Pie Maker, he informed me that there were absolutely No Refunds, Ever. Pizza Al's is a city landmark. Just as Al himself is. I'm a young twenty-something, and I've been getting my pizza from Al all my life (he used to run another place down the street called Pizzeria Italia before opening Pizza Al's). Al himself is pretty much a stereotype. He's a little old Italian man, who lives and breathes by his restaurant. My parents say he was an old man even when they got pizza from him back in the 70s. I prefer to think of Al as "timeless". You can't get a better pizza than Al's outside of New York and North Jersey. The small pizza is as large as the biggest from Pizza Hut and Domino's. And its super cheap, with pizzas ranging from $5-Up depending on toppings. If you can manage to resist the pizza, the sandwiches are a MUST! It just doesn't get much better than Al's. The owner used to own Pizzeria Italia, but in what appeared to be a ploy for more money, that establishment was sold to a family that pretty much ran it into the ground. For awhile, under the new name, Pizza Al's was serving up pizza that was equal to what you used to get at Pizzeria Italia. But, alas, that time has come to an end. The crust is cardboard awful, the sauce passable, and the pizza itself is greasy beyond reason. I am a big guy, and I love myself some cheese and meat, but when the grease drips off of a slice, so much that it makes a paper plate transparent, it's simply not appealing. There are two locations, one in Sabraton (which, admittedly, I have not patronized), and the one I used to go to, in Suncrest. Since it is within walking distance to towers, it is usually busy with college kids. God help you if you want service on a weekend or on game days. If you're looking for good pizza, try another establishment. I think the owner has made enough money from his businesses, and just doesn't care. At least it looks that way. read more

So that's weird. Didn't they realize it was cold? The guy handed us the little container so he must have known. And I ordered the steak and cheese and it was awful. The bread was good. The seasoning was good. But, the meat was super dry and chewy. Not appetizing. Not worth anywhere near the $9.50(?!?!). Stick to the pizza. And ask for the sauce to be warm.
