Pizza Al's II - The $15 chicken salad - Pizza Near Me - Morgantown, West Virginia

Apparently, there are five Pizza Al's in the Morgantown area: four of them named Pizza Al's, and this place, Pizza Al's II. Nobody asked me my opinion on naming these pizza joints, but I'll give it to you anyway. If there are five Pizza Al's in one area, shouldn't they be named Pizza Al's, Pizza Al's II, Pizza Al's III, etc.? Anyway, I like to think that Pizza Al's II is the illest of the five, because it's the only location that got blessed with Roman numerals in its name. We'll go with that, because the pizza here slaps. First of all, only order the extra-large pizza if you are feeding a big crowd. The extra large is huge! I didn't know just how huge it would be when I ordered. Like shopping for women's clothing, sizes can vary drastically from place to place. One place's extra large is another place's large. So, you can never tell how big the pizza will be when ordering from a new pizza joint. We were very hungry, so I ordered the extra large, but the slices were so big that we each only ate one! We had plenty of leftovers. We also got cheesy breadsticks, and one order is almost as big as a large pizza. I couldn't eat one more bite of bread and cheese beyond my gargantuan pizza slice, so I never did taste the breadsticks. But they were the kind of breadsticks that are like a flat piece of dough covered with cheese, and then cut into sticks. We popped into Pizza Al's II and ordered at the counter, then waited in our car for our order to be ready. But it would make a lot more sense, and save you time, to call ahead and order by phone. The inside of the restaurant is sparse, but there are a few tables, so you can eat your pizza or calzone or whatever here. My kids both said that they knew our pizza was going to be good because of the decor: Lots of pizza boxes stacked on top of each other. Apparently, according to them, that's a good sign that the pizza is going to be great. They were right! read more

Rude bunch. Came at 7:26 pm and ordered two pies. They were apparently offended and afraid that they wouldn't get out at 8:00pm on the dot, when we sat down with our family. "We close at 8, we were about to flip the tables." 3 of them felt compelled to tell us that within 2 minutes. Guess we weren't standing fast enough. Then when it came out, everything was falling off. Took it back in and they said "that's just the style it is, it's watery. Do you want us to make you another one?" I got a refund. The Pizza Al's at University Town center is great. Shocked at how bad this was. I ordered a calzone. A small is 9.50 and a large is 15.00. The counter guy asked if I wanted additional fillings. Onions, mushrooms and banana peppers took the 15.00 to 24.00 which seemed excessive, but I figured it was my first time here, let's see what I get. I waited fifteen minutes while it baked, and was taking it to go. When I got home, I was impressed by the size of the calzone, but that was the last thing that impressed me about it. The sauce was on the side...it was cold and runny...like tomato juice or soup...awful. Italian ham was one of the fillings...but in this huge calzone I doubt there were more than five or six thin half slices...barely an ounce of meat. I didn't even get a slice of it in my first (and last) portion of the calzone I ate. The truth is, this calzone was 85% dough, 14% cheese and vegetable toppings and 1 percent (or less!) meat. What a joke, what a ripoff. It was bland, boring and now it's in the trash. Never again! When I want pizza or calzone I'll skip the local pizza joint, buy a frozen Italian taste treat from the grocery, will save $20 and enjoy a superior product. read more

Went to get dinner with Kayla and Deacon while staying the night in Morgantown WV This pizza joint was located near the hotel and per Yelp had very good reviews We arrived and it was packed. Found out from another patron that today is the busiest Pizza day in America (the day after Christmas) We ordered our pizza to go. We got a couple 20oz Sodas to go and a few Blue Raspberry Bug Juices for Deacon. The pizza was a 14" Small Pepperoni and Extra Cheese with half of it with mushrooms and Black olives. Born and raised in Morgantown, I have lived on this pizza. Tried hundreds of different pizza places and still my favorite. Had to return home for a brief trip and had to have some pizza. Being a brief trip, I wanted to bring it home with me, 5 hours away. Had to leave earlier than I expected, but they still made sure I had my pizza ready to go! The extra steps and care the staff made to accommodate me is beyond words. Not only do they continue to provide a consistently OUTSTANDING pizza, but their employees are top notch and great people! read more

Our family has only gone to the Pizza Al's in the Evansdale Campus. The service is normally super fast however this location only has a few tables where you can dine in otherwise it's Carry out. They also sell beer, soda and water and if I remember correctly, they do have a couple beers on draft. We always request our pizza to be crispy and well done, but not burnt on the bottom. That is a tough combination to achieve. I personally don't care for their sausage, green peppers or their onions however the rest of the family likes those toppings. The family says that Pizza Al's pizzas are consistently good and priced well. I would recommend visiting. read more

This place runs like a well-oiled machine. On Saturday nights you'll be fighting other customers for a chance to call in your order, but it's well worth every penny. Stop in some night a couple minutes before you're supposed to pick up and just watch them go to work. Place has that old pizza place feel but is extremely clean as far as I can tell. Best of Morgantown. This is mom and pop style pizzeria. Best NY style this side of Big Apple! 3 sizes, traditional and white. Wife likes traditional and I prefer their white, so we typically get one of each and take leftovers home. Hoagies are superior. Salads too. Way better than franchise. High quality ingredients, nice selection of craft beers and other beverages. Employees seem to enjoy their craft. Al has been making pizzas for decades and has a big arse following. This pizza is giant. A large is 20" and its cut into long, floppy slices. Its decent pizza but it doesn't have anything "stand out" about it. It has a good amount of cheese but i just feel it lacks overall taste. The crust is a good texture but tasteless, ditto on the cheese. The toppings are skimpy and the sauce is barely there. But it hits the spot for that NYC type pizza craving. I only got take out but there were a few tables and a beer cooler and a few taps in this location. I would come back here but i think i would only get a cheese pizza from here in the future. read more

On a very busy weekend. My husband and I went in to Pizza AL's 2. Once the guy behind the counter took our order and our money. He never bothered changing his gloves. Mind u he touched the cash register , our cash and once he gave us our change. My husband and I were wondering if and when he was going to change gloves. But to our surprise he started making pizza's. Stuck his nasty unchanged gloves into the cheese and some veggies. Once we brought it to his attention. He got an attitude with us and said the germs will burn off in the heat while the pizza is cooking. We cancelled our order. Got our money back. Whether the germs burn off in the pizza oven or not it just makes you wonder what other things they are going on. read more

Best pizza in Morgantown, no contest. Thinner crust and sauce. A large is HUGE and well priced. I wish they delivered to me, but it's good enough that I'm willing to drive there. I always take out though there is seating. They serve beer, too. Mom n pop places are the best, and this place captures that. read more

Not only is Pizza al's is the BEST pizza in town but they are awesome in other ways too. Friday night I walked into Pizza Al's in Sabraton WV at around 9:00 pm. I was starving and wanted to order a small pizza. They had already closed the restaurant and were ready to go home but instead the staff offered to turn the oven back on and made me a pizza anyway. It only took about 15 min. and I happily went home with my pizza. I was so GRATEFUL to them for their kindness and consideration. Pizza Al's has a couple other locations in Morgantown.
