Asked my hotel concierge where the best local place to the eat was. She advised to try Pizza Bar for their ham and cheese sandwich. Called in to place an order for take out. It was ready in 10 minutes! The girl taking my order was friendly and helpful - made a fantastic suggestion with the cheese curds. Literally the best ham and cheese I've ever had! We discovered this place on a list of "Ten Best Sandwiches in Alabama," so we had to try it while passing through. They're famous for their chopped ham and cheese. It's a deli ham sandwich on a hoagie roll where the ham is shredded and mixed with a mild white cheese. It was just okay- the uniqueness of the sandwich is its only selling point. We went to this restaurant over a year ago and my kids still haven't stopped talking about it. I just thought about it today because we were within 1 mile of it and my one complaint is that they didn't open until 11 and we couldn't wait. However, that's not really even a complaint, that's just a normal lunchtime thing. We got one of everything on the menu. Yes. One.of.everything.on.the.menu. It was all fantastic. We will eat there again. We literally have no reason to be in this area but we will drive an hour and a half out of our way to go eat at this place again because it's fantastic and if you live there... I went in around 1:30 PM so lunch crowd was not there. I was only customer eating there at the time. The ham and cheese sandwich did not disappoint. They use Gambino type bread for the sandwich. The ham was thinly sliced and had good flavor. Some mayo and I am not sure what cheese it was, but I would eat there again. The place had writing all over everything, but was clean. This used to be the best sandwich in walker county. Not sure what's changed but the flavor just wasn't there more was the texture of the meat what I remember it. The ham was thicker than it used to be, and the cheese and may just didn't have the same flavor. I hope this was a one time issue and maybe next time my experience will be better. read more

Nothing I can add to the reputation of Pizza Bar's Ham and Cheese, it is great. Something that doesn't get the recognition it deserves is there whole cheese burger on sub bread. Anyone from around Carbon Hill area will know about Lacy's. It's the one place I look forward to when coming to Alabama to visit family. The Pizza Bar (aka "Lacy's") has so many memories. Do not judge a book by its cover. This is an awesome place, I love their Ham and Cheese sandwiches. It is made with French bread, that is shipped in from New Orleans, they are great! I also love their BBQ salads! They give you BBQ and The Dressing of your choice from their menu! They have signatures all down the walls of people that have been there. A few of people that have been there many times. They say that the writing started in the bath room and spread to the small walk way and then started traveling up the store .
