There are 3 Caratello restaurants across from each other and they have the same/similar menu. All share the same cozy interior. Originally planned to eat at Al Caratello but ended up at Pizza Caratello and had a really great time. I would suggest trying to make a reservation before you go. All 3 Caratellos were packed. The food was delicious and had great service. If I remember the name correctly, David, who may have been the manager of the restaurant, had a great sense of humor. Very welcoming and homey. Whoever said Italian food isn't good in France is misinformed. Next time we visit Paris we will for sure come back! read more

By the same owner as il caratello, this place will blow your Italian loving mind. The antipasto set the tone, packed with enough local meats, cheeses, and roasted vegetables to make Louis XIV reconsider the grandeur of the hall of mirrors. I had the frutti di mare. Solid choice. I didn't get to touch my friend's risotto w foie gras, so I'm assuming the best, based on cherubic facial expressions, and the fact that he doesn't know what foie gras actually is. If you can't get a table at il caratello, you're not stepping down much eating here. Just watch out for pick pockets when you get back to the metro. It's near moulin rouge, a hotbed for the criminally dexterous. :) read more

TL;DR: cozy Italian Restaurant off the main path, great service, delicious food. Stopped by Caratello around 8pm for dinner. We were promptly seated and attended to by a nice lady. We ordered couple waters and a bottle of red wine which was served promptly. For meals we ordered a Diavola pizza (spicy salami) and my girlfriend had one of the specials (veal scaloppine). Both were delicious. For dessert we had a dessert sampler (Cafe Gourmand) which included vanilla ice cream, tiramisu, espresso ... was also delicious. The small restaurant is cozy and the tables are close but that just makes it easy to talk to new people and make new friends. We noticed two French ladies sitting next to us had finished heir wine, using google translate I offered some of our wine which they graciously accepted. Luckily for us one of hen spoke perfect English. We proceeded to have a pleasant conversation about Paris and how this is unusually good weather for October. Later, after desert and a shot of grappa a two Swiss gentlemen sat a few tables over, they noticed we were talking in English and Spanish and they started talking to us in Spanish. We compared grappa vs tequila and talked about our other travels in Latin America. The main hostess offered us shots of grappa on the house. Food was not bad but unfortunately we had local French teenagers make fun of the way we "cut our pizza." The waiter laughed along side them. Food wasn't even that good so just go somewhere else. Very good pizza. Came across this place while walking the streets. Ordered the creme de truffle pizza and the 4 verudes pizza (vegetarian). They both were excellent. Only reasons I took away one star is because the seating is very cramped and the pizza does not come precut. Not sure if that is a French cuisine thing but kind of made it tedious to eat. Very good restaurant in Montmartre area. There are 3 Caratello restaurants in the same street, so if one is full you can try the other. We did that and ended at Pizza Caratello (which is not a big deal, because the menus are quite similar). Plat do jour (entrecot) was good. Rigatoni Carbonara and Rigatoni Gorgonzola were excellent. Service is efficient and the wine selection is fair priced. Overall a good Italian spot on a typical Parisian 'hood. read more
