First time in. Ordered a medium Bobby pizza and fried mushrooms. The mushrooms has a crunchy coating, came out hot with a good ranch. The pizza looked amazing, had a great crust but it would've been better if it came out hot. Waitress was also the bartender, table cleaner and seemed like everything else and she was nice, efficient and provided great service. read more

A solid neighborhood spot that has just gotten better with time. After moving from their longtime location just down the avenue this family favorite for after game gatherings, daily lunchtime specials and friendly service is better than ever. Their very affordable pizzas aren't winning any international awards but they have a certain charming crunchy texture and always hit the spot. I love their french fry basket and a cold beer in a frosty mug after a hot day on the golf course. The Monday special is fried chicken and is always pretty good. We usually love the pizza. Tonight was not their night. It was cold, under cooked and the jalapeños looked like they forgot them and tossed them on at the end. It was also very dry, I even peeled the toppings back to look for the sauce. It had such a tiny amount it was almost non existent. We will try again but it was very disappointing tonight. read more

Great find nestle in Topeka. We have been here twice and the service has also been very pleasant and the servers always willing to share the specials and what to get. The pizza is on point! No need for extra cheese as the regular has just the right amount. We had a large pepperoni and feed 2 adults and 2 teen girls with extra to bring home. For apps - a must get are the mozzarella sticks. Super cheesy and such a good eat. Not sure which on is better but the onion rings are a must as well. For the Ranch lovers of the world...you get a squeeze bottle of it - yes a full bottle. This place always has specials on beer - no hard liquor which makes it a nice family place. Tons of TV to watch your favorite sporting game. Be sure to bring your coins for the kids - arcades, the claw machine and much more. read more

I ate here a few months ago, because I wanted to try all the pizza joints in town. I had called my pizza to go and when I walked in the door, I could almost hear the record scratch, and leering eyes staring at me. I'm not from the Oakland area, so I know I probably looked a little out place but I felt really uncomfortable being there. The pizza . Itself was just okay. Not great, but not bad either. The woman who waited on me was actually attentive and did her job well but from the other patron, I just felt like I wasn't wanted there. So I won't be going back. read more

Kind of hidden in Oakland, the Pizza Parlor doesn't look like much outside or in. But in true, gritty neighborhood fashion, this place consistently hits it out of the park. Great pizza, nachos and, surprise, surprise, fried chicken. We're not drinkers, but the beer prices appeared very reasonable. Their specialty pizza is called a "Bobbi" (sp?) and is pretty well loaded. A large will easily fill a family. Got to admire people that keep good family places like this going. read more

Some people my husband works with told him this place was great. And it was! I've read the reviews on here about not feeling welcome by Oakland locals and not our crowd (if that's something you're going to worry about when you go to a restaurant, maybe you should stick with an Olive Garden or Applebee's). This was NOT the case when we went and we aren't from the neighborhood. I can't remember when I've been to a place with a friendlier staff! It reminded me of a tiny dive bar in my small home town. I wasn't expecting a fine dining experience but I got a damn good cheeseburger! The Parlor is a working class, family friendly eatery. American food fills up the menu and the bellies of hard working Topekans. The lunch crowd fills up the place in a hurry making it hard to find an open seat some days. Though the lunch crowd doesn't linger, you're likely to hear lively conversations from the spectrum of people who live and work in Topeka, KS. I dig the heaping Taco Salad or Chicken Salad. The daily specials are widely varied but worth the value. For a good price you can get a hearty meal. The pizza has made a comeback in recent years. My fiance and I came here because had heard from some people that this place had the BEST pizza ever. Had lunch there awhile ago and I ordered a small/personal sized pizza with canadian bacon and mushrooms. The woman who took our order was very polite, so there's nothing wrong with that aspect of the place... But when I got my pizza it was very soggy on the bottom. It honestly tasted no better than a pizza that I could buy in the frozen food section... And the crowd wasn't really "our type". Don't think we'll be returning. read more

I grew up in Oakland eating at the pizza parlor it was great! Today I took my family to eat there this being the first time we been since they moved to there new location, it was the worst service I have ever had we go in and sit down the waitress tells us she will be right with us, 15 minutes go by she never comes and helps us no drink no menus no nothing. Another group of people come in and sit right across from us the same waitress goes straight to them tells them the same thing only a couple minutes later she gives them menus then comes right back to take there order so I took my family elsewhere she even seen us get up and walk out she says nothing, I never would of thought we would be stereotyped there I will never take my family there again. read more

The Pizza Parlor has been a local hangout in the Oakland neighborhood since my childhood in the late 70s, although I believe it has been there since the late 60s. (Don't quote me on that last bit, though). It's changed hands over the years, but has managed to stay mostly the same. Families tend to gather there after sporting events, after church, etc. And groups of adults tend to gather there after putting in a long workday. One thing that has stayed exactly the same over the years is this: Don't order the pizza. You'll be better off ordering ribs, or a cheeseburger. Their pizza has never been a very good example of pizza. But the barbecue, the sandwiches, the fries .... all of those are good choices. It definitely has an old Oakland neighborhood vibe to it. If you are a native of the neighborhood, you're likely to run into someone you know, or a relative of someone you know. It's a friendly atmosphere where the waitresses generally know customers by name. They have a steak special one night a week, and when important sporting events are being televised, you're likely to find a beer drinking, sports watching crowd. If you want gourmet food, this isn't the place for you. But if you want to feel like you've walked into the late 1970s or early 80s, and you want to be in a place that seems comforting in that Oakland neighborhood kind of way, this is the place for you. read more
