    Pizza Parma Front Counter
    Gracie D.

Had an awesome experience during my first visit to Pizza Parma Shadyside! The young woman working the counter was friendly and very helpful. She answered all of our questions and showed us pictures of some menu items we had questions on. We ordered the Pepperoni Boat, two gyros as they were BOGO on the day we went, and the Buffalo fries. She said it would be about 10 to 15 minutes, and that was accurate. The food was all excellent! The gyros are a great size, and adding feta to them really elevates the tastes. They are good without the add on though, as we had one with and one without. The Buffalo fries were crispy and great paired with the ranch. The Pepperoni Boat was my personal favorite. It is similar to a pizza but no red sauce on the boat, it is on the side. We had plenty of leftovers, also! The shop is small but there is one table for dine-in. We chose to eat in, but if you go the table might already be occupied, just FYI! Not to our order, but we witnessed a customer who got an item mixed up in their order. The staff was very nice and expedited their correct item, having it out within minutes of the customer returning. A woman came out to personally apologize for the mistake. It showed great care by the staff for the customers and the product they sell. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu, and an actual pizza from here. Everything was great, staff was wonderful, and it was overall an awesome experience.

Pizza is good but the hoagies are even better. Everything is always fresh and hot. I also love that they give back to the community by providing free pizzas to folks who might be alone or have no money during holidays.

Wasn't the biggest fan of this place. Some of the items are way too overpriced. Small margherita pizza for $20, medium for $25, nearly $30 for a large? It's similar with the calzones. I tried the small 5 cheese calzone with white sauce. It is nice that they let you choose which sauce to have with the calzone (but white sauce just means no tomato on the inside). The size was fine for a small, but again, prices are crazy. Flavor-wise, it was mediocre. They did have a nice amount of ricotta, but I could not take anything besides a bit of mozzarella and some ricotta. It was super greasy as well, and had a slight stale aftertaste. The sauce served on the side was okay but stone cold which was kind of unpleasant. All in all, there are better places for pizza and calzones in the area. Most items are very overpriced and the quality isn't that high.

Pizza Parma is always a hit! Great pizza and hoagies. Always recommend as a favorite Pittsburgh Pizza place for all whom live and visit here. Always done when expected. Very friendly at this location!

I normally love Pizza Parma. I don't love THIS Pizza Parma, unfortunately. I work very close to their location, so it's easier for me to pick up orders here rather than have things delivered. But it's really not a pleasant shop to walk into. The staff are always disorganized; often they're bickering or complaining about their day. I've noticed that it takes them a while to locate my order as well, especially if I place it through GrubHub. And it typically feels like there aren't enough people to make the orders, answer the phone, and interact with customers at the front counter. Just a high stress, grouchy environment all around. Meanwhile, the food varies in quality. Their pizza is good, as are their french fries. The main appeal of the hoagies is more that you get a lot of food for a fairly low price; otherwise, they're pretty "meh". It's also a bummer that when ordering through GrubHub, you're limited to ordering regular or diet Coke. They have other drinks available in-store! They're just...not available to app users. Sigh. My final vote for this place is 3.5 stars; they're a cheap lunch option, the affordability is a plus, and some food items are better than others. If you stick to their pizza, fries, and other cheat day staples, you'll probably be a happy camper.

Buffalo Fries, Chicken & Spinach and Chicken Pizza

It's Christmas Day and I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant. I haven't had any serious cravings so far but I *really* wanted pizza tonight. Everywhere was closed (which I wasn't surprised about and was happy for the workers!), I'd almost given up hope until I checked Uber Eats and saw Pizza Parma. We ordered the Chicken & Spinach white pizza and Buffalo fries with their signature sauce. It was SO good and hit the craving right on. We had to wait a little longer than expected because were SLAMMED being the only pizza shop open on Christmas ! Will definitely order a white pizza from there again! Highly recommend!

Most bowls are rice, greens, and/or beans based with various vegetables for toppings. Heartier than a salad but healthier than Chipotle. I've gotten lunch there a few times and have always been satisfied. My favorite bowl is El Jefe, which comes with rice, kale, black beans, corn, red onion, avocado, and a protein topping (I like the miso tofu but you can also get chicken). The bowl also comes with cilantro/lime sauce, which I do not get because it's very salty. That's my one complaint about Roots - despite their healthy ingredients, their bowls can get quite saucy and salty if you go with the default options. This particular location is well-staffed, so service is usually quick, but it can get a rush of students around 12pm.

The bowl was good but I was a little disappointed in the portion. Roots is a little bit more expensive than other similar options but I usually don't mind as they often give me a very full bowl, but that wasn't the case with the Gary bowl. It was less full than the bowls I usually get along with being very heavy on the rice and not too much chicken or even the kale. Aside from that it was still yummy but I think I'll be going back to my regular order next time.

I got a warm bowl with brown rice, spinach, cucumber, apple, edamame, citrus chicken thigh, and organic tofu. The portion was solid and filling, especially with the two protein add-ons at extra cost. I also tried the avocado creme sauce, but it was a little spicier than I expected, so I was glad it came on the side. Without it, the bowl tasted a bit plain. I'd still come back and try a different sauce or mix-in combo because it feels like a solid healthy option. Also worth noting: adding a smoothie to a bowl order drops the price to $6 instead of $8, but you have to add it through the bowl order rather than as a separate item. The Tropicolada smoothie was really refreshing and I'd definitely order it again.

I was pleasantly surprised by the bowl and thought it was tasty! I will say I wish you could get more included with your bowl, places like sweetgreen or cava or even chipotle lets you get however many toppings you want, and it feels more limited here (unless you want to pay extra). It would be nice if they allowed you to have 2 dressings too, 1 seemed kinda stingy. Good for a healthy quick casual meal in Pittsburgh!

That means I haven't actually eaten inside Roots itself; maybe one day I won't be picking up my meal on the go? But until then, I can't comment on what a sit-down experience here is like. If the name didn't give it away, this is an eatery focused on "natural foods", AKA whole foods. So if you want a salad or a bowl, this is a good place to get one. They have a limited number of "set" menu items, and they let you make custom creations, too. This is where I reveal how lame I am, because I found my favorite order back in 2023 and I've never changed it up! If you see me here I'm probably ordering a Mayweather salad, which includes kale, bulgur, sweet potatoes, beets, red onions, goat cheese, and chicken. One day I might shake things up and try their cobb salad...but until then, I'll let the Mayweather continue to delight my tastebuds. Disclaimer that Roots is not the cheapest eatery on the block, but for me, it's my weekly treat. I could never make a salad as tasty as theirs, and a good (i.e. healthy and yummy) meal makes my in-office day a little better! I can't wait to pick up my regular order again later this week (although I might steal another reviewer's idea and get the BBQ tofu instead of chicken...it sounds good AND it would make me a slightly less boring regular!).
