So so so manny people have told me this is the best fish fry in the city m Was looking forward to this spot for a couple months and was expecting more. That doesn't mean this isn't a good fish fry. It was just missing that wow factor for me. It was fried well, the bread was okay and the tartar sauce wasn't a huge fan of. I was a huge fan of how they gave you three individual pieces though The provolone sticks came out within 5 min of me ordering. Maybe even less and were not that hot at all. Like they've been sitting under a heat lamp for 20min. They still tasted fucking bomb but when I have any coated and fried cheese, I want to have to be cautious of burning the roof of my mouth off I def wouldn't say don't go here by any means if you're within 15 min of it. The spot is a dive bar for sure. the food is C H E A P and it's not bad by any means. Better quality bar food read more

First time at E Town! I recently heard they had chicken tenders and a fish sandwich--both of which were voted best in Pittsburgh. On this trip, I tried the chicken tenders and now I understand why they earned that title! I loved that they were beer-battered--it was something totally different and really delicious. The fries were decent, but to make this platter a home run, I'd love to see those upgraded. Maybe beer-battered fries would pair well! I enjoyed this enough that I'll definitely be returning and I'm looking forward to trying the fish sandwich next time! read more

This is literally one of the best tasting fish sandwiches I've had in quite sometime. E Town is a chill bar/restaurant. It's pretty quiet for a bar scene & quiet enough to be able to eat and carry conversation. The service is quick & the staff is friendly. On a busy day seating may be an issue as it's not a very big establishment. I've visited twice since posting this review. That absolutely has to tell you something! The menu says "Etna's Best Kept Secret, but now the secret is out, this is where you go for a Fish Sandwich. The fish is massive and the fries are excellent. The draft selection is fairly limited, but they have a couple of interesting choices. Our server was excellent and worked hard to give us good service. read more

The sandwich was really good. It came out super fast and was hot not like it had been sitting under heat lamps. The fries were just regular frozen fries. The server offered menus right away and even made a mixed drink that was pretty tasty as I was undecided on what I wanted. Very reasonable priced drinks and sandwich. read more

Great fish sandwich!! Crispy fish and fries! After visiting the zoo, I searched local places to grab lunch, and we hit the jackpot here!! Easy to find on street parking. Doesnt have a lot of curb appeal, but makes up for it inside. Clean with ample seating. Cant wait to go back! read more

No covid distancing is practiced here but most are masked. I arrived on a Friday to order from their Lenten menu for takeout since their phone is forever busy. I had the fried fish sandwich with coleslaw and Mac and cheese. I also had a side of haluski. By the time I got it home, the fish was slightly soggy. The Mac and cheese was basic. Go big or go home! Pittsburgh knows a thing or two about "Fryday" fish sandwiches. Or any day for that matter. E Town serves 'em up. Not sure if the fish just swim over from Strip District or drive here like the rest of us but if you're in search of great Friday fish (mac n cheese optional), pull up here and be prepared to take some home because it'll be tasty and plentiful. Nice light batter, fried, fresh of course and way more fish than bun. You can tell this bar/restaurant knows it's game based on all the takeout orders that complement the bar & backroom seating. read more

Initially doesn't look like much, and if we are being honest I have driven through Etna many times never knowing it was there. When first entering everything is very clean and well kept, but beware during Lent you may want to get there early as the rush seems to start around 3:30. The inside is way bigger than expected along with plenty of takeover flowing on its way. Aside from that the service was good and the environment was very friendly. The food was good, could use a bigger fry portion but trust me the fish is enough fishing off right around $10! read more

Won the award for Pittsburgh's best fish sandwich. It's enormous. Two fish sandwiches, really, which kind of makes it not fair, since all the other fish sandwich places must have only really been competing with half the fish of this place. Great beer selection and the prices. . . let's just say you know you're not in the Pittsburgh city limits when you buy five craft beers and your bar tab ends up not cracking the $30 barrier. OMG get the hand-made burgers you wont be disappointed, they come with fries and slaw, for like 8 bucks. the back room was a bit chilly but it was only zero the day we came in. you will love it. Parking is tricky, so pick up your friends, and order a pitcher of beer. read more

Let's start by saying that E Town is a small place and from the front, you may not even think they serve food. BUT this little "Bar in the Front - Food in the Back" joint is fantastic! When you arrive, you'll need to park on the street (like most all places in Pittsburgh) and you'll see their small, lit up, square sign hanging over the door. Once you enter the door, you can walk straight back and find yourself a seat. They always have great service by the hard working and friendly servers there. And the food is awesome. Mind you, it's not a 5 star restaurant, it's a bar and grille, so you'll find things on the menu like burgers, wings, and tasty appetizers. The main stand out there is the fish sandwich. It comes with 2 giant pieces of beautifully battered, fried to perfection fish. Crispy and perfectly done every time. And the prices can't be beat. Try it out, you won't be disappointed. read more

I've wanted to try this place for so long. The fish sandwich is amazing. Really good fish with nice beer batter, a soft bun, tartar sauce, and great coleslaw to go along with it. So perfect. My husband ordered a burger and he really enjoyed it. The fries are good too. Nice beer selection and friendly service in a laid back atmosphere. I got the sense that all the patrons are regulars. The definition of an average fish sandwich. Mild in flavor, big but not ginormous, and not one hundred percent crispy yet not drenched in oil, I don't think this is the "BEST" fish sandwich in Pittsburgh or an amazing bang for your buck. The accompanying cole slaw and tartar were both mild and didn't add a particularly tangy flavor or or satisfying crunch. They do have a decent domestic bar and other bar type items on the menu like wings and burgers. Street parking outside, a decent local place, not worth a special trip. read more

We came for the fish and were not disappointed. Generous portion too. We also ordered the fried pretzels thatvid served with honey mustard. When I asked for cheese sauce they happily brought me nacho cheese and it was OK. A nice beer cheese dip for pretzels would have been better. Still I liked the pretzels. Fries were frozen -not fresh cut- but were OK. I'm a fry snob, so it's hard to please me there. Coleslaw was not good. We will be back and I'll try the wings. read more

What a treat this was today! My friend and I were in the mood for lunch and thought we'd try a place another friend had given great comments about. It ended up being a terrific experience with food to match. E Town's fish sandwich was a total slam-dunk. Crispy batter with two substantial, flaky pieces of fish. This is my new "go to" place for a great fish sandwich. Chicken tenders are just that and very delicious. Their back room was crowded with a family and friends get-together that was very well attended. The hostess-wait staff- bartender kept the lace spinning and exceptionally happy with quick responses and remarkable service. The other patrons were embroiled in fun conversations which pleasantly pulled in others who were nearby. The mailman delivered letters and he was greeted as if it was "Cheers" with additional extras. One of the very best fried fish sandwiches in Pittsburgh and perhaps on this side of the pond. On par with Pipers/Pub Chip Shop. This sounds terrible, but I actually look forward to not eating meat now on Fridays during Lent if it means Etown. Their chicken tenders are quite delicious. I've picked up platters of them when entertaining and they are always a hit! There is never a single piece left, even (especially) when it's just a group of adults. Affordable and excellent quality. read more

Alright...so either I was here on an off day (twice) or I am ordering the wrong thing!!! Both options are very good possibilities. The first time we went was around this time last year. Etown is literally a 3 minute drive from my house and Bobby was interested because he thought they probably used their meats from the butcher (whom he so loved before they just closed up shop recently) and really enjoyed his burger. I think I ordered a side salad and a burger without the bun. I assume they were both decent, but nothing so amazing that it left an imprint in my memory. So last night on my way home from work, I called and ordered a takeout order of 10 wings and their taco bites. I specifically asked for their wings (which are just skin-fried and non-breaded, yay!) to be cooked well so they were extra crispy. I got there and it wasn't very busy and the girl had my order ready to go. I contemplated a six-pack with their seasonal beers and they had a decent selection, but I opted against it. The taco bites were different than I expected but they hit the spot! good flavor and I didn't even need the salsa or sour cream! The wings (hot ranch) had good flavor and were extremely meaty, but they almost seemed under-cooked which was a disappointment considering my special request. They were to the point where the skin was unappealingly gummy. I should have thrown them in the oven on high for a few minutes to crisp them up, but I was kind of turned off by the consistency so I ended up tossing them. I will say that I have been here to drink a couple times and it is a great little local bar. It has a good selection of liquors and beers and the bartenders are nice and attentive. I would totally be willing to give them another shot food-wise and definitely try the fish sandwich everyone raves about on here! I'll update my rating if it is warranted when I do so. read more

Ok, I hate to admit because this review might make the wait longer on Fridays, but this is the best fish sandwich I've ever had. We got takeout and they even wrapped the bun in foil so it would not get soggy on the drive home. The sides are good too. My new lent spot for sure! read more

It's official. ETOWN may very well offer the best fried fish in pittsburgh. While ETOWN is more a bar than restaurant, it is impeccably clean, bright and NS. Service is friendly, several beers on tap and daily specials. But fried fish is their thing, and they do it right. Flat fillets fried in a crunchy batter, drained from excess grease and served piping hot with tasty french fries and a small container of house made slaw. Fish sandwiches are served on a kaiser roll. I've been searching for Pittsburgh's best fried fish for 25 years. I've narrowed it down to ETOWN for the traditional and Pipers Pub for the beer batter style. EAT LOTS OF FISH.... read more

Really good fish sandwich , big and reasonable . My wife and I are not big eaters so we split one and with the fries or onion rings and coleslaw it is plenty . If you go around lunch time there can be a wait because they fill so many take outs . They also know how to pour a great Guinness . Been there numerous times and never been disappointed . Casual atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent food and reasonable prices. We had the homemade mozzarella sticks. They were crispy and delicious. My son had the burger and fries and it was enough to fill him up, which is quite impressive. I had the buffalo chicken salad. Fried chicken breast, large green salad with fries and hard boiled eggs. The inside is fairly small with tables on one side and chairs lining the other. As an FYI, the chairs are fairly narrow because of the arm placement, so if you are a larger person, it might be uncomfortable. The menu is simple. They have wings (and a variety of sauce options) but I didn't order or try them, so I can't speak to that. They also have two different fry size options with about 12 different options for the dipping sauce. Some were standard (mayo, ketchup) but they also had unique flavors like curry ketchup, mango mayo and andalouse. I ended up with the mango as my included choice and got an additional side of the andalouse. The fries are cooked to order, so it can take a bit (I imagine when they are busier they might have some precooked) but they were cooked to perfection. Just the right amount of crisp and salt. But the dipping sauce is what really makes the experience. If you order to go, you don't get the fun, traditional Belgian fry cones which I understand (because how could they be packed efficiently to go) but it was a tiny bit disappointing. There is a paid parking lot across the street, but there is also a lot of street parking in the area as well. This is definitely some place I will be back to visit!

Those fresh cut fries would be in my dreams once in awhile they were so good. To replace them with some Ore Ida crap I could get from the grocery store was beyond disappointing. My husband's burger was visibly lower quality. It had more lettuce on it than meat. Those burgers used to be thick and fresh, and this just wasn't it. My go to at Dive, the salmon BLT wrap, was OK, but the sauce was distributed unevenly in it. One bite would be completely dry and the next was drowning. I'm just overall disappointed that the food isn't as good anymore. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I would happily pay 20% more to maintain the quality we had in past experiences than pay the same for what we got on our most recent visit. I don't think we'll be back unless they brought their original fries back.
