I was staying in Ypsilanti for work and I hit a craving for Hawaiian pizza -which never happens! But I also wanted some pepperoni. I also didn't want to pay a lot of money for a pizza for just me. Read through some yelp reviews for local pizza places and came across Pizza Perfect. So I called and asked if they could do half Hawaiian and half pepperoni. The person who answered didn't even hesitate. So I ordered a medium and on a Friday night I was pleasantly surprised when she said that it would be ready in 20 minutes! But the best surprise of all was the price. $11.75 (including tax). But the actual best part is the crust. You get a couple of options. So I chose the butter garlic crust. Holy cow. Delicious!!!! In business for 29 years, Pizza Perfect has an loyal underground following by those 'in the know'. "Perfect" peddles tomato pies and various appetizers for pick-up and delivery only out of a small shop on the south side of Ypsi-town. It doesn't look like much...walking up from the lot it shares with a gas station on this non-descript section of Ford Blvd. I knew that this area can be a bit of a rough part of town. Exiting off I-94, I smiled to myself as I witnessed 4 motorcycles doing wheelies at about 45 MPH on the Boulevard. I thought to myself..."get your pie and get out of Dodge". :) As I claimed my pizza at the counter, I was very impressed with Perfect's pricing...only $10 and change for a Large with Three Toppings! I think that was the least expensive pie I've purchased since the start of the 3rd Millennium. Opening up the box, I was blown away with the quantity of toppings on my pizza. Onions, 'shrooms and pineapple densely populated my pie along with my choice of the butter-garlic Parmesan crust. It's not often that I throw a nickel to a pizza joint with only a pick-up window...but Pizza Perfect earned it the old fashioned way. Outstanding taste and excellent attitude at the check-out counter. It became immediately obvious to me that Pizza Perfect is out to earn your business. If you like cheese and quality toppings this will be your jam. The sauce isn't spicy so if that's your taste you will find it flat. It's mine though. The cheese is generous, real and quality. The ham is thin sliced small pieces and the pepperoni spicy. Green peppers are larger than I like so I just skip it. It's a little pricier than you may expect for the area but it's likely due to better quality. The cheese bread is delish too. Thin bread loads of cheese thick marina. Definitely check them out. I wish I'd gotten a photo. Our two Pizza Perfect pizzas were picture-perfect. And with the family meal coupon I'd nabbed from their website, we got both large three-topping pies with garlic butter crust along with an order of breadsticks - upgraded to mozzarella breadsticks at the lovely cashier's encouragement - and a 2-liter of root beer for the price of one large three-topping pizza. Win! The breadsticks weren't breadsticks at all, but a sizable pizza in their own right with the addition of the melted mozzarella. They came paired with ranch and marinara, but we preferred our own garlic yogurt sauce. The crust on all the pies was perfect - bubbly and chewy. The helping of cheese was generous, as were the toppings overall. We were two very happy campers with awesome pizza leftovers to last several snackings. Last but not least, the ladies were just lovely with these two newcomers. The operation is clearly a very simple, streamlined process. Pickup only. Orders get called in, pizzas get picked up. Cashier's window with plate glass alludes to the safety in the neighborhood and the relative scope of interaction generally expected. It can make for a rather dry experience. Glad I found this place on Ford Blvd. I was looking for local pizza joints because I got tired of the usual chains like dominos or little caesars. When I placed my order, I thought they got my order wrong because it seemed cheap after I ordered so much stuff. Turns out it was correct and their prices are simply affordable. Pizza perfect? No. But pretty damned good. We ordered a large (~15-inch) "Ultimate" (w/ pepperoni, ham, mushroom, onion, green pepper, beef, sausage, and extra cheese) with a garlic butter crust. Upon opening the take-out box, I was immediately struck at how the pizza resembled Papa John's. Even the sauce tasted like Papa J's I thought (i.e. on the sweet side). But this is a better pie. A better "better pizza". And for a better price---$12.71 with tax. The ratio of toppings to crust is better, and the crust flavored with garlic butter or parmesan butter or Cajun or sesame is delicious. No more thick pieces of leftover crust to level out tables with or use as doorstops as with Papa J's. Pizza Perfect's space adjoining a small 24-hour gas station/grocery, and modest exterior is a little off-putting. But don't judge this pizza place by its cover. Brave the beat up screen door, and you'll find some of the tastiest food at the fairest of prices around. read more

I had Pizza Perfect for the first time earlier this week with a friend and enjoyed the pizza (and the price). However, I just called to place an order for delivery and they said they didn't deliver to my apartment complex because they'd been robbed. I currently am disabled and cannot drive. The lady who answered recognized my voice and that I'd ordered earlier in the week, but still refused to take my order. She ended the conversation by telling me to have a great night - which I was trying to do, by supporting a local pizza place. Very good pizza. Ridiculous value. Ingredients were fresh. Cheese was very good. Sauce was perfect - Not too salty. You can get sesame seed crust which is a big plus in my book. For a large one topping take out the price was $6.19 and just $1.10 more per topping. So cheap! Location is a bit rundown but if that helps keep the price of these pizzas so low, I say more power to the owners. I will be back! read more
