Very highly (overpriced) buffet. Also don't opt for the pizza here; the chicken is the only thing that's worth it.

If you want a place that will get you in and out then this is the place that does have plenty of…read moreoptions. My number one complaint is the temp of the food-- it is my opinion- it does not meet my standard for state regulation temperatures some what-- lukewarm-- and with seafood you really have to be careful. The staff is pleasant, seating well spaced and the dessert bar is good. The offering of protein is served with some being over cooked or chewy -- but that is according to my taste -- which may be okay for others. A very pleasant staff that is environmentally friendly for all groups.

I still consider Buffet City to be Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet's little brother...despite the…read morefact that Buffet City has been in business longer. They both offer similar litems. Standard Chinese food. Appetizers. Hibachi. Sushi. Salad and fruits. Desserts. And Western items for kids or the non adventurous adults.... The selection is not quite as extensive as HG&SB but it's big enough. One thing this place is probably better with, than their main competitor, is seafood... Crab legs, shrimp, scallops, crawfish, mussels, and octopus. Along with salmon and halibut... No matter what diet you are on you can accommodate it here. Staff greets you when you walk in and seats you and your party. Seating is a combination of booths and low top tables and chairs. Drink orders are taken at your table. Payment is done with your server when you finish your meal. Service has never been an issue for me here. Buffet City is open on most holidays like Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet when other businesses are closed and is usually less busy. This is actually one of the biggest appeals of Buffet City for me... Starting with the pandemic Buffet City starting offering take out across their standard menu and delivery through Doordash (and possibly through other services). I've seen a lot of comments in reviews about cold food here. I've never run into this... When I order off the menu at any restaurant I'm liable to go at off peak times to avoid a crowd, but... When I go to a buffet...ANY buffet...I ONLY go at PEAK times. Lol Most buffets have plenty of seating so going at peak times isn't an issue unless you insist on having rockstar parking. Going at a peak time normally ensures you hot and fresh food. If you hit a buffet at an off peak time you are really rolling the dice. You have no idea how long that food has been sitting on the warmer... This place has never knocked my socks off, but I've never walked away hungry or feeling like I didn't get my money's worth.

I had to travel for work on a Sunday, which I typically try to avoid. I searched local restaurants…read moreand saw this one, and decided to give it a try. Small town asian restaurants tend to be either really good or really bad, with very little in between. When I go to an Asian buffet type restaurant, I am not expecting the greatest quality, just comfort foods like general Tso's chicken, crab Rangoons, and some white rice at a reasonable price. This place exceeded my expectations. Each of the items in the buffet that I tried tasted fresh, not like it had been sitting under a warming lamp for two hours. The chicken meat (both white and dark) was high quality, no bits of gristle or other unchewable stuff that I often find at lower quality restaurants. The crab Rangoons were really good. Even the rice was very good, not having that dried out texture that it can sometimes get when it sits in a steamer pot for too long. The sushi was also surprisingly good. I never set my expectations high for buffet sushi, but I keep the bar even lower at small town restaurants that serve sushi. I mean, who expects decent sushi at a small town Iowa buffet? It was surprisingly tasty, even if the selection was limited to only one roll type item. My only gripe is that it was kind of dark inside, in spite of the windows being unobstructed and the sun being out. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine, but buffets really should portray a clean and bright environment to emphasize that they are high caliber restaurants. Buffets tend to be viewed as dark, dirty places, and I always encourage proprietors to upgrade their lighting to make their restaurants appear cleaner and more inviting. Aside from the lighting, this place solidly impressed me. For a small town Iowa buffet, it was very good.

I placed a to-go order and arrived to find the parking lot about half full, which gave me hope that…read morethe food would be good. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Upon entering, I approached the cashier, who neither greeted me nor offered a closing statement such as "Thank you" or "Have a good day." I ordered the General Tso's combination plate and a side of beef lo mein. The General Tso's chicken lacked any spiciness, and the yellow fried rice was disappointing--almost inedible, despite my usual love for rice. The beef lo mein was mediocre at best, reminiscent of cafeteria or hospital food. Sadly, I will not be returning.
