Yum! I come here for lunch with my coworkers pretty often and usually sit on the fancier side of the restaurant. The bread is really delicious - crusty on the outside, fluffy and chewy on the inside - and the service is friendly and kind. I've had their grilled eggplant panini (really good), vegetable calzone (not bad), and fettuccine with pink sauce and peas and prosciutto (delicious and comes with a salad). Come here for the food, you will leave happy and with a doggy bag. The portions are more than generous, starting with a family style salad, loaded with extra goodies and some fresh Italian bread. The pasta is excellent. Manicotti or Lasagna are particular favorites. The fettucini alfredo has a wonderful buttery taste. They have the most amazing pizza and food. The owner is incredibly nice and accommodating. I've been ordering from them through Door Dash. Door Dash completely messed up my order tonight. I called the restaurant directly and 30 minutes before they closed. They knew exactly what happened with Door Dash and offered to deliver my order. The owner delivered it for me. Possibly the worst meatball hero I have ever had. The roll was fresh, the meatballs were well cooked and in the right amount of sauce, BUT there was no flavor. We started going to Gencarelli a few months before COVID hit and have never been disappointed in their extensive menu. Dining in was peaceful and not noisy (often a rarity) while enjoying chicken piccata, chicken parmigiana - and the rest of a full meal. Great cold subs, wonderful pizza and chicken wings. I have to say, I worked in this town for about 20 years and I ordered from this place and found it to be such a HUGE disappointment. 1 week I called and ordered pizza and perogies for myself and co workers. They didn't have perogies, Then 2 weeks later, same thing, none, Called back again another week later and they finally had them, so I ordered them, they were flavorless and came with no onions or sour cream, they came with ranch dressing...UGH. Came here with the family for pizza, and had a coupon with me that had no expiration date. Pizza was just ok, then I was told I couldn't use the coupon because it was created by the "previous owner". We've had three uniquely awful experiences with this restaurant. We've ordered pasta dinners and pizzas from Gencarelli's and each time the order was incorrect. For some reason we kept deciding to give them another chance. The staff has been rude and unapologetic with delivery and pickup alike. I will NEVER order from any Gencarelli's restaurant again. I've placed 5-6 delivery orders online over the last several months. The delivery driver at lunch is always really pleasant and on time. The last three orders I've placed have had issues though. Last week I ordered perogies, the menu clearly states you are paying for 4. I've ordered them before and received 4. Last week I opened the take out box and found they only gave me 3. We ordered pizza last night - a large pizza with one half pepperoni and green peppers, the other half plain cheese. I actually went so far as to also specify this in the special instructions, since last time we ordered this they incorrectly made one half pepperoni and the other half green peppers. We opened the box last night and it was wrong again. One half was green peppers and the other half pepperoni instead of combing the toppings on one side and leaving the other half plain cheese like I requested. I have eaten their twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times the food and service were good and both times there were not too many customers. I think their location is not that great. Food is pretty good but terrible service. Ordered online once and food never showed. Was told they had a problem with their online ordering service so tenge had never received it. I was offered no compensation for this but fine. Thinking it was a fluke I ordered again months later by phone this time. Was told 40-50 minute wait. At the one hour mark, I called and was told it'd be there any minute. This went on for 20 more mins and 3 more phone calls. Finally the driver arrives and I put him on the phone with the owner who again made no offer to comp or discount the food which was now 2 hours later than when I had placed the order. He said you don't have to pay for it if you give the food back. Ridiculous and not the way to keep your customers coming back. read more

We often frequent Anthony's and love it....however a few weeks ago we were looking for something different and stumbled upon Gencarellis. Its a pizzeria with a separate dining area (BYOB). We sat in the dining room and were one of three tables that were full...the rest were empty...which is a crying shame. The food here is amazing!! We had a string bean salad that was so good we contemplated getting another. My boyfriend had eggplant parm which was awesome and I had a chicken dish with mushrooms and artichokes in a light marinara sauce. So good. And the bread was awesome..hot and crusty. We then went again last night and it was even better. This time we tried the fried calamari which was soo tender and perfectly cooked, not greasy at all. Sauce was really good as well. This time we both had something different..my boyfriend a pasta dish with peppers, olives and mushrooms (he said it was great...I did not try because I don't eat peppers) and I had the Chicken Aurora...OMG...if I could have finished it (couldn't because the portions are huge and we ate too much bread)...I probably would have licked the plate clean. Took it home and cannot wait to eat it again. As I don't want to discount Anthony's food, once you eat here, you will realize that Anthony's is pizzeria quality and Gencarelli's restaurant quality. Never Again! I would order from them quite often. This was the last straw. Mistakes are made occasionally when placing and taking orders understandably. After addressing the manager to fix the issue, the manager, who took the order, insisted over and over again that the mistake was my fault. I don't know how one could ask for 2 pizza pies and that be misconstrued for one pie and one slice. Being in the service industry, no, the customer is not always right, but you as a manager suck it and make it right. We ordered and they got the address wrong although we repeatedly told them it was in Rockaway,not in White Meadow Lake and we are repeat customers. Didn't listen, drove around until the driver finally called us and then argued that he was in the right spot. Not so much, we're looking out our window from the correct address. We call the manager and he had no idea his driver was even still out on the run. Over an hour and a half, the guy shows up with soggy salad and sandwiches and cold food. I have ordered from this place (on-line) 4 or 5 times now and the food has always been good. I am in the area on business and stay at various hotels. The first time I ordered, there was no problem. The second time I ordered, they went to the wrong room - this was at the same hotel. The next time, I changed hotels. Their on-line system has you put in the address and it tells you if they deliver to that address. System confirmed that they deliver to the address, so I place my order. Soon I get a phone call from the driver asking what hotel I am in. This information was provided. Of course, he was at the previous hotel. Next time, same thing. Driver goes to the first hotel. Calls me and asks what room I am in-that hotel did not have that room number. He calls back-he is at the wrong hotel. I tell him the hotel and room number. I figure he is on the way. I then get a call from the front desk of the first hotel, asking me what room I am in. I am not even in your hotel! I tell him, yet again, the hotel and room number I am currently at. Driver finally gets here. I show him the address on my confirmation-he shows me the address on his receipt. If they can't get the address information correct, they shouldn't even try delivery.. read more

Coming from an area with an abundance of delicious pizza we were a bit concerned when we moved to Rockaway. We had yet to have good pizza while visiting family that lived in town. But, we thankfully came across Gencarelli's. The pizza was delicious! The crust perfect, not too tough or too doughy. The sauce was very good and the cheese was not too oily. It was a great combination. We were Very pleased. We also ordered the chicken parmigiana dinner and while i was a bit disappointed by the chicken (portion size and doneness) it was not too bad. Had the chicken been cooked a little better with a crispier breading rather than a soggy breading they might have gotten 5 stars, at least for our order. read more

There is a new owner now. Sergio and his staff are great! Super friendly. We have had a private party there and also eat there at least once a week for a pie and drinks. Their Sunday special is $7 for a pie cash and carry... you can't beat that! Not sure why I have gone back to this restaurant after a history of not such good experiences but today I did. I called and placed an order for delivery and paid with cc. Five hours later, about 9pm I get a phone call from the restaurant and the gentleman on the phone asked me if I would like to give my cc info again. After telling him absolutely not because I felt uncomfortable, I hung up. One minute later I get another phone call from I thing the manager or owner explaining to me that they were busy and the ticket was in the garbage, I got my food do I have to pay, etc. I tried to tell him that it should be the employee's responsibility to pay since it was a mistake on his end but he wasn't seeing it my way. So in summary this is an example of poor customer service. My husband has made me promise no more ordering from this place however he will go and pay cash for the bill that I apparently wasn't charged for tomorrow. read more
