Was rly excited to try this place after hearing the hype. I came at 6pm on Saturday and waited a bit and was able to get a seat. Totally fine. The food was SO salty - the rigatoni, mozzarella sticks, linguine, carbonara. All beyond salty. Honestly that's ok but the service was horrendous. They were rushing us so much. Once again, the Pasta Shop delivers an amazing experience. Went on a Thursday night and of course on the early side, but this time sat right down without a wait. That's a first. Went for the staple Chicken Parmigiana because when you're craving it you got to have it. Also had the pasta with sausage and broccolini. Hearty dish. Of course we had the kale Caesar to start. This place is a must go to! Last night, my friends and I went there for the first time. I live in New York and this place is in Denville, New Jersey and we heard the food is amazing. We were lucky enough to be in town so we stopped in earlier in the day to get our name on the list as I don't believe they take reservations. Anyway, they had a table ready for us at 5:45 PM for dinner and the staff was so nice and accommodating. I spoke with a number of the waiters (Roy and Vic) in terms of recommendations and followed many of their recommendations - we were not disappointed. For appetizers, we had the absolutely light and fluffy meatballs with the garlic bread and pesto sauce along with the homemade mozzarella sticks. We all loved each of these dishes. Our favorite amongst the appetizers was the meatballs - I can make a meal of those! For dinner, we ordered the pappardelle bolognese, rigatoni with vodka sauce, linguine and clams and a tortelloni dish. I understand the pappardelle and rigatoni are staple dishes and we all understood why as they were absolutely delicious - although my favorite was the linguine and clams - a big-time Yum Yum Yum! I met Roy earlier in the day when we put our name on the list for dinner. He was kind enough to stop by our table a number of times to check in and see how we're doing. Vic was our server for the evening and he did a fabulous job describing the various dishes and providing excellent service. The chicken parm was solid, crunchy edges and the browned cheese on top, sauce was good not great. I was surprised by the garlic butter spaghetti, I wasn't expecting to like it but I did! Although I've been to several 'Italian' restaurants in the past few months, this has been the first that offered what I consider to be authentic Italian food. This is a very popular restaurant, and we were prepared to wait. So, after requesting a table we walked to the nearby Brewery to sample beers and non-beers as we awaited the text that said our table was ready. At the restaurant, part of a party of 6, I sampled a lot food. The pasta was cooked to perfection: neither over or under cooked. Everything was freshly prepared and outstanding. I especially enjoyed the flavors of the Mascarpone ravioli. One in my party ordered garlic bread to share and I thought "on no, another garlic bread saturated with oil and butter." But it was not. The bread was light and perfectly prepared, as were the mozzarella sticks, cannoli's and everything else. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I've been thinking about The Pasta Shop for a while after seeing it on Yelp. It's about a 45-50 minute drive from my house but my friend and I headed there on a recent Thursday night. We arrived slightly after 6 pm and after navigating some parking fun, we walked into a very cool albeit small restaurant. That's when the emotional roller coaster began. The very nice gentleman working the front, advised that their waiting list was closed for the night. Thankfully with his next breath he let us know that we could do takeout. We had seen a series of nice looking picnic tables on the sidewalk outside of the restaurant and decided that would work: They have a nice "specials menu" on top of their regular menu. We selected fried stuffed cherry peppers, house made mozzarella sticks, spicy Argentinian shrimp with squid ink pasta, carbonara, and the chicken Parmesan. The cherry peppers had just the right amount of spice kick, the mozzarella sticks were really high quality, and the chicken parm was really nicely done! But the true show stopper is the pasta! The squid ink was as good or better than any I've had (Arthur Avenue and Italy included). The egg yolk in the carbonara was so rich and vibrantly orange that the only possible explanation is that the chef is on a first name basis with the chicken that laid it! Absolutely outrageous carbonara, creamy and loaded with perfect bacon! They don't take reservations, so I suggest that you get there earlier than you usually would or take it to the picnic tables! Almost forgot, they told us to check back 15 minutes after ordering and the food was already waiting for us. That's fantastic service! All of the staff we encountered were really great! If you can get in, its a really great experience. The pasta dishes are amazing and made from scratch. The mushroom fettuccine is my favorite to get, they had a kale Cesar special which was huge and great for sharing. I always get their garlic bread and I've also tried the burrata. Thwre are no reservations so the wait to get in can be long but they offer take out. Just remember to check in every so often, we were told there would only be a 90 minute wait and we were there for 2 hours but after we asked, they were able to seat us another 15 minutes after that. We made it into the restaurant! (This is our second time trying.) there was a line outside before the doors opened. Yes, it's cold and winter and yes we are included, in the group of people all sitting in our cars outside waiting to enter! As soon as doors opened, all 22 seats were immediately filled. We ordered 3 appetizers and 3 entrees for 2 adults and 2 kids just to try as much as possible event though we got lots of leftovers. Portions were fair. The mozzarella sticks were such a hit. We loved it. The burrata was so fresh! The winner of our appetizers was garlic bread with pepperoni spread. I looked over at our neighboring table and wish I had room for meatballs too! Of the pastas and chicken parm we tried... the winner was definitely bolognese for me. It was sooooo good. I kept eyeing the neighboring tables clams with linguine sauce so I should've ordered that too. We finished none of our dishes, hahaha, but we left super content.. and willing to try and come back to try the rest! But it's another 2hr drive. How to sum up this meal? They might have the best food in NJ but getting into the place is very difficult and frustrating. They don't take reservations and seat parties on a first come, first served basis. Which is fine except the locals don't wait at the restaurant. So tables in this tiny restaurant sit empty for 15-20 minutes waiting for parties to return from their homes. When we got there it was packed and they told us the wait would be 2 hours, but if we wanted to order takeout it would be 15 minutes and we could eat at the cute little picnic tables outside. That was perfect for us. It was a little hot outside, but we didn't mind. The place is so tiny inside there is barely any room for sitting and walking around. The food itself was so good. Although I've been to the pasta shop before, it's strictly been to order food to-go. Part of the problem, is the wait time for a table can be over an hour. That was the case for us. The server was very nice and checked in on us regularly. It was difficult to hear/understand her, because of the ambient noise and her accent (then again, we all have accents!). My suggestion would be to have the specials posted inside the restaurant and not just outside when you walk in. A gentleman, who is either the owner or manager also checked in with us a few times. That was a nice touch. We were given a piece of cheese at the start. That wasn't my thing but it was a nice gesture. Bread would have been a better complementary item. We started with mozzarella sticks that were HUGE! They came with a grated cheese topping. I was not a fan of that but one stick here is like 2-3 at another restaurant. I ordered the linguine with clams, and it was delicious. The clams were mini-clams but I was given a small fork, which was perfect in picking out the meat.
