My husband and I went to a 12 pm Saturday workshop for his birthday present. He loves making pizza but struggles with the dough so i thought this could be a fun and educational class! We had a great time, walked away with a ton of knowledge and ate a ton of our own homemade pizza creations! The class was compromised of all couples and one father/son duo - 8 pairs in total which was the perfect intimate class size. Shah was the main instructor who led the class - he was great - made everyone comfortable and explained things in ways we could all understand. The other 2 employees were super helpful and they all pitched in to make class run smoothly. The first two hours of the class we learned how to make the dough - each pair made enough dough for 4 pies. We also learned how to make a simple pizza sauce, tasted different types of cheese, and sampled a few pies we watched him make as he demonstrated the techniques. The second half of class we made our own pies. They had so many different toppings to choose from, and you could even make dessert pies! It was a lot of fun coming up with our own flavor combinations. Shaping the dough was a lot easier than expected after learning the techniques. We got full quickly so they had boxes to take home leftovers. We had a lot of fun! The 4 hours went by quicker than expected. They have alcohol and wine for purchase and free ice water. Tip: Make sure to eat something for breakfast since you don't actually start eating anything until more than halfway through the class. Definitely give this place a shot! An absolute treasure! We went to a Saturday class, which was a holiday gift for my pizza obsessed partner who struggles with the dough and overloads on the toppings. After 4 hours we came away with 4 pizzas, a few new recipes and a wealth of knowledge about dough and all of the ingredients needed for delicious NY style pizza. The venue is small, it would be ideal for a large group of friends but we just made new friends for the afternoon. Shah led the class & with Ricky and Eduardo's help we were stuffed by the end of it. Keep in mind though that you don't actually start sampling any slices until midway through the event. They do have wine and beers available for purchase with a complimentary ice water station to keep you hydrated. I bought this class as part of a pizza themed Christmas for my wife, a displaced NY/NJ girl in Texas. Funny thing ... I mentioned it to an old friend of mine (also a Texan who grew up in NJ) and he told me that he'd sent a friend to this same place ... and it was a phenomenal experience. We certainly concur after our four hours here with a few other couples and groups. First, these guys know their pizza. Seriously. They talk flour, tomatoes, cheese, oven temperatures, tools -- you name it, They've been in the business of tossing pizza pies, and they love pizza themselves. My favorite takeaway from this class is my newfound ability to make classic NY-style pizza in my home oven in Houston! Of course, I can pretty much order any ingredient I want online, but we learned in this class that we really don't have to. All of the new knowledge aside, our experience here was just ... fun. This has been my son's favorite activity so far, so it's was special to me too. We made 4 different pizzas, ate some there and took the rest back to our hotel. While I've heard this place is a good fit for large group events, we decided to do this as date night as a couple on a Sunday. The store was cozy and clean. The instructor was extremely personable. I attended a Pizza School NYC class about three months ago. It was a GREAT Experience and I recommend to all who are interested in making Pizza at home and want to reach a level of competency and confidence as soon as possible. I had always wanted to make Pizza at home and purchased an Ooni 16" Koda. I soon discovered that while all the videos on Youtube made the endeavor look easy and simple, there is a steep (and costly) learning curve. So, I decided rather than continue to try to reach a basic level of competency by watching others on YT, I would take a class and learn firsthand from experts who could guide me through the process in person. My biggest issues were shaping the dough and launching the pizza into the oven. Mark and his team showed and let all practice the proper techniques as well as the importance of the right equipment. The Pizza School NYC Dough has also been a game changer. It is pretty easy to make/knead versus other doughs I had tried and very kind to beginners (doesn't tear easily). Before I decided to book this for my husband for his birthday, I read all the reviews and contemplated whether it was worth the money. Since he doesn't request much and has always wanted to attend a pizza school, I thought it'd be worth it. It sure was a once in a lifetime event. Dano, Amy and Jose were as amicable and humorous as you can get. They first welcome you and give you a drink. Then as everyone arrives, you start to take the class. I don't want to give too much away, but everything about pizza-making is pretty much covered. How to make the dough, what tools to use, what ingredients work well, what temperature to cook it in, and how to make the pie. They even had a sample ingredient tasting where you can taste their homemade sausage! You are provided with a lot of options in the pantry but also a few good quality items such as pancetta and fresh cows milk mozzarella from the famous Di Palo. The instructor Dano also made a few pies for us to sample as we went through the class. It's pretty amazing how fast the pizza cooks and how full you'll be by the time you get to eat your own first pizza! You get 4 to make and take home, and trust me, you'll be having leftover pizza for the next week. Overall there is a reason why this school has such high ratings and a high price. We had two great instructors, who have had decades of pizza making behind them. They walked us through 4 different pizzas -making everything from scratch...and then passing them out. We savored every bite - they were as good as any I've had in the city. Then, we made our own - 4 more pizzas - using any ingredient/spice/cheese/ herb you can think of. It was so much fun - my partner said she wasn't a good cook, but quickly became skilled at making pizza dough and rolling it out! What a great experience. Went here on a Friday night and had a wonderful time! The three men leading the class were great-funny, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Made four pizzas each and had an unlimited amount of toppings to chose from. Music was playing and it turned into a club a few hours in. Neil, Nicky B and Manny, kudos - you guys are amazing at running this class. We arrived a few minutes early and from the moment we walked in they made us feel welcomed. They answered all our questions and were so caring and accommodating. My boyfriend and I were actually the only people in the class from NYC, so I highly recommend for NYers and people visiting. Back in December 2012 I got the opportunity to attend a class at the Pizza a Caasa Pizza School. I'm not even close to kidding when I say it was The. Best. Class. Ever. In fact I may even go so far as to say it is some of the best pizza I've ever had. Seriously. Armed with a couple close friends & some work colleagues we ventured out on a freeeeeezing cold night to make some pizza. Reviews said it was an amazing class and those reviews were spot on. Once we made our way back & stepped inside we found a warm, welcoming & eclectic shop... the smell of mozzarella and garlic filling the air. A cabinet offered up some hangers and cubbies for coats and bags and a long table situated in the middle of the room had stations set up for each of us. While we explored, made introductions and checked out the syllabus for the night Mark (founder of & teacher at Pizza a Casa) produced a few pizzas for us to try and Jenny served up drinks & kept us refilled while our hands were bowl deep in dough. Once we got to learning the techniques and making the pizzas time flew by. Our small group (there were 6 of us) was able to produce a total of 12 pizzas, many of which were consumed right then and there. Lacking creativity? Have no fear Mark & Jenny are there to inspire you with a cupboard & refrigerator full of ingredients, everything from fresh veggies, spicy peperoni to hot honey. Never would I have ever thought a pizza with ricotta cheese, fresh mozz and a little bit of honey would be soooo delicious. Thank you both for encouraging that combination. I'm pretty sure I've made it a half dozen times since our class. Additional info about the Pizza a Casa Pizza School: (+) Yes, there are only 2 ovens- but Jenny works them like a boss. Pizzas were perfectly cooked despite the amount being created. (+) The ingredients included in the class make (4) 10-12" pizzas. And no you don't have to make them all right then and there. We were all given containers, bags, instructions & encouragement to take home our dough balls and move our our pizza making skills into our own kitchens. (++) Bonus points for getting me to try stuff on pizza that I probably wouldn't everrrr try. I'm almost ashamed to admit it- but I ate my first ever brussel sprout on a pizza in this class. and I'd totally go it again... especially when paired w/ fresh mozz & prosciutto. If you are even slightly considering doing this, do it. This is a life experience that you'll carry with you with every homemade pizza you make at home (which believe me, will be a lot once you learn how easy it is to make pizza). My boyfriends parents bought this for us for Christmas and we were both surprised and excited with how great the reviews were (and once we took the class, how it exceeded our expectations). I have made (good enough) pizza from scratch at home before, so I was familiar with the process of making pizza; My boyfriend has never made pizza, so I was more excited that he was going to learn how to make these for me. Regardless of your level of cooking, you're going to learn something here - whether it's making your pizza light and airy (one of the problems I was having) or what type of ingredients to use / where to source in NY.
