I saw alot of positive reviews so I thought I'd give the place a shot. I ordered a small pepperoni and I'd say I'm one of the reviews that got their pizza abit burnt. The overall sensation as you bite into your slightly over priced slice of pizza is dissatisfaction. You can feel the hot mess of tomato sauce with a lack of cheese and pepperoni. The crust feels like a tectonic plate and overpowers the taste of the pizza. It's more like a burnt tostada with tomato sauce sprinkled with cheese, they throw in a scarce amount of pepperoni slices then sprinkle a bit more cheese. They obviously think they are sly enough to pull this off but they're not. What kind of pizza is this? Well, its slightly better than Little Ceasers but not by much. A wise man once said I'd rather have one dollar from a hundred people rather than $100 dollars from one person. I don't know who runs the place but the values of a hearty American pizza are not found here. I didn't appreciate how they tried to cut corners. And they wont be seeing my monies ever again. Many people like my self are enamored with pizza, food of the gods, and I must say there are only two places that I have experienced that have consistently made my experience worthwhile each and every time: -D'bonnies Pizza located in Escalon, Ca It's been in business for many many many years and it is family owned. Any pizza that you order will be delicious and will fill you up like a barrel. They also cook up exquisite burgers. -Pleasure Point Pizza in Santa Cruz, Ca Please don't get it mistaken with Plasure pizza a new rip-off joint placed about 500ft away. Don't go there. The place you want shares a building next to a liquor store. I've been eating there for many years and I love it, I love it. I highly recommend these joints and although my pizza sucked I must admit I did have fun at the place. The bathroom door gets jammed so you gotta push real hard, I decided to go for a kick. My family and I had been coming here for a while up until Andy retired. I recently returned upon learning they are now open again (huge disappointment). Pizza was burnt, new owner is a complete hot head (yelling at employees, banging things around when mad) I used the restroom only to find out there I is now running hot water, (how do employees wash their hands how do they wash their dishes or clean the store? I came to visit family in Merced and we decided to try this place out. This is the worst pizza I've ever had, the managers were very rude and disrespectful. They said some very racist things to me and my family. I would NEVER recommend eating here, I definitely won't be back. They charger a lot for pizza that looks and taste like shit, they barely put enough ingredients and the crust taste like cardboard. My 3 year old child could make a better tasting pizza than them. They have no manners or respect for customers unless they are white. The place doesn't look very clean, I've read some reviews and of course there are both good and bad one but the "good" ones seem fake, after visiting this place. Well, this is my first review on Yelp, and it actually wasn't motivated by anything particularly good or particularly bad about Pizza Villa - and that's basically how I would describe the place's food - not particularly good, not particularly bad, but more on that later. This review was actually motivated by the fact that the seemingly official looking 'Explore the menu' link on the Pizza Villa Yelp page is completely wrong. Evidently this place has been around for some time, so how that menu managed to get here and stay with 40+ reviews is a bit of a mystery. When we called and tried to get spinach and bacon on their creamy alfredo chicken pizza, they were completely mystified (though in a very friendly way!) After some back and forth, they offered that "the menu on that website is wrong" and that "people call us all the time to order the Mexican pizza, we don't have that!" Anyhow, I've uploaded photos of the _actual_ menu for the benefit of all Mercedians, both permanent and transient. As far as the pizza goes, I would say it was so-so. We ended up ordering a garlic, chicken and ham construction with no tomato sauce and a Pizza Villa Special for take-out. On the plus side, the ingredients were fresh, the mozzarella was good quality, the pizza was hot and the price wasn't too bad - 30.00 for a medium and a small. They described the garlic chicken pizza as having a "creamy garlic sauce," but in reality I think it was more like garlic sautéd in olive oil. The crust was the real disappointment though. I'm really a fiend for a nice bubbly and chewy crust on my pizza, and this one missed the mark. The crust had more of a cracker texture and was a little oily. The Pizza Villa special was similar - good toppings, but not my favorite crust. I can see that some people might really like Pizza Villa if they didn't mind the crust, and you can definitely do _a lot_ worse in Merced. Worth a shot. read more

i have been dining here since I was in Jr. High School back in the 70's. On Saturday 12/11/21, we invited out of town guests before a meeting on Saturday evening. I called ahead to pre-order with the intention of dining there and the young man on the phone was pleasant and accommodating. When we came in we had anticipated having to wait on a few of our party so we had a few minutes. I went up to the counter and they had not started our Big Joe Pizza Villa Deluxe. The owner's wife stated she had overheard the conversation and they do not allow for orders to be phoned in prior to arrival. WHAT??? She also gave me some line about attempting to call me back but I had no missed calls from Pizza Villa (I have them programmed on my phone and have for years). By the way, isn't this the same as a "CALL IN ORDER TO BE PICKED UP"????? I shrugged it off, paid and we waited, and waited and WAITED! By then our entire party had arrived. We eventually got our order and then we still had time before our meeting. I went up and ordered a dozen cookies. Now the website said 12 for $6.90 and 6 for $3.56. SHE CHARGED ME CLOSE TO $10.00 FOR 12 COOKIES. I brought the website to her attention and she said it was a type-o. I even showed her what I was looking at. They told me "Oh well. Do you still want the cookies?" There was absolutely no remorse or offer in compromise. The owner Seth was even involved in this conversation. I MISS ANDY!!! Overall the pizza was pretty trash. Its hard to mess up pizza because the ingredients are so simple, however they managed to do it. For starters the pizza was cut incorrectly, which is just insane; cmon just cut straight bro. the small things matter. The cheese was greasy, the pepperoni was cheap, tasted like cardboard and the dough was plain as all heck. Whomever is making these "pizzas" needs to really hit the drawing board once more. Grew up going there after Dad's ballgames in the '70s, took dates there with a fake ID to get pitchers of beer in the '80s, lived next door to it on Loughborough when first married in the '90s, missed it like hell when we moved to Vegas, and it's ALWAYS in our plans when we visit Family in Merced. Visit with Fam, then Pizza Villa...sometimes not in that order. Old friends told us that it changed hands a few years ago, and were dodgy in their reviews. I bought 2 large pizzas today, pepperoni and a combination. First of all, combination hardly had any vegetables on it. They charged me 60 bucks for 2 large pizzas !!! Not extra large, not family size, just large !! Way too over priced. But most of all, THE PIZZA IS NASTY !! It has a very foul odor to it. Maybe the cheese they use or the sauce, but it literally smell like puke !! My kids refuse to eat it and I had a piece and no more. This used to be the place to go for pizza back in the day. So I just moved and was with friends. So I ordered delivery. It was fast. But the medium was more like a small. The crust was tough and thin like it was days old and dry. And the sauce was non existent. The large was supposed to be Canadian Bacon with Pepperoni and pineapple. Going in to this restaurant, I expected some bomb pizza akin to the reviews. Unfortunately, I have been extremely disappointed. Maybe Pizza Villa is down on hard times, or people are "enchanted" by the casual and family-oriented atmosphere; however I know I won't be coming back to this restaurant. The total was ~$28, with a large half-and-half pizza with pepperoni, a large drink (which they have refills for half of the drink cost), a salad, and 3 cookies. The pizza crust was hard and crunchy which isn't bad, but the cheese wasn't very tasty, and honestly only appetizing when I covered it with parmeson and red pepper flakes. The salad was good, and you get to pick from a salad bar, but you may only get a single serving of salad per order. I don't presume that every reviewer here has some affiliation to Pizza Villa, but I think they're getting different pizza than we are. read more

This is the best pizza you can get in Merced. No joke! They use real cheese, Stanislaus Food Products for their sauce and their crust in unbeatable. Andy, the owner has been running this place since I have been around and its apretty tight business. I like that I know I will eat the best, kids are welcome and based on the fact that the place seats plenty and you still have to wait to sit down has to mean something......right? I felt like we were stuck in a time warp at this place! The wood paneling and one old TV probably looked nice in the 1980's. The salad bar setup is not convenient...metal lids on everything so you have to look under each one to find what you want. SALAD BAR IS ONLY ONE SERVING PER PURCHASE and you're only given a small bowl. It felt like we were being watched to make sure we didn't go back for more! The owner questioned my request for a cup to serve my dressing on the side- I was almost charged $1 because it was an additional item. The staff looked miserable and the OWNER appeared to be walking around MICRO MANAGING everything. You can tell he's a penny pincher and the prices are high because of it ($20 for 2 topping large!) We had the 3 - person dinner special (med. 2 topping, 3 salads, pitcher of soda) for about $30. The pizza is ok, NOTHING GREAT. I will save my money and go to Costco for a much bigger $10 pizza next time. Usually these mom and pop places have an environment or awesome food that gives people a reason to go there and spend the money, but this place definitely doesn't have either!! read more

I will never find a better pizza place than PV. The pizza comes from home recipes, and this restaurant has been open since (I believe) the 1960's. The dough is made fresh, and my favorite part is that the pizzas are cooked in a giant oven, usually by Andy (the owner). He cooks the pizzas so well, with the yummy crust being crunchy on the bottom, like it should be! I would also like to point out that my stepfather, a Londoner and traveler, has tried pizza villa and pointed out that it's one of the best pizzas he has ever tasted. Overall? As tasty as it gets. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza for delivery the lady who took my order put me on hold for over 5 minutes then told me the pizza would arrive between 45 to an hour. One hour and 10 minute's passed finally the pizza showed up. The pizza was cold had to microwave it to reheat it. Then they forgot my hot peppers and cheese packets which I made clear to make sure they had. The pizza was ok not the greatest. Tip for business don't take so long to deliver. One of the best pizzas I've had in a while. I ordered a small (10") supreme to-go. The first thing I noticed when they handed me the pizza box was "holy crap, this thing is heavy!" I swear, this is the densest pizza (in terms of toppings) that I've ever seen that wasn't a Chicago-style deep dish. But more importantly, it was delicious. The toppings tasted fresh, and you could tell they make their own dough Even with the restaurant being really busy, the wait time was only about 20 minutes, which is about normal I guess (which is totally unlike my experience at Me-n-Ed's where the place was dead and it took twice as long with maybe the same amount of workers). I took off a star for price. About $15 for a small supreme. That's way too much dough (pun intended) for just a small pizza. But I guess you're paying extra for quality.
