I LOVE this dog park! I love how dog friendly Gahanna is in general. This park is very spacious and very clean. The dog owners who come here are all respectful of the grounds and of other people/pets. I've seen the most beautiful dogs here and met very nice people. I've only had one encounter where I felt my dog was being bullied, and I left immediately. I think the other dog's owner realized his pet wasn't quite ready for socializing on this level since they left right after us. We take our beagle here 3-5 times per week we love it so much.

Great dog park, they have an area just for small dogs and an agility park for training. Great place for letting your dog socialize.

When you first pull in, there is a gravel parking area, a port-a-potty, and a few picnic tables in a grassy area overlooking a newly added pond/waterfall set-up. In addition to the pond area looking very nice, it was designed by an environmental agency to safely bring the stormwater into the natural stream flowing through the area, so it's very functional too. One trailhead takes you into the state preserve area. No dogs are allowed on this trail, so you'll want to stick to the city park side if you bring your four-legged friends. During the spring, this preserve becomes full of vernal pools and spring wildflowers - so dress for mud and boots will come in handy! There are some nice boardwalks to get you over the worst of the areas. It's very pretty and peaceful, and there are tons of spring peepers (little frogs) singing during the spring too. It's a short loop trail that is pretty easy to do. Across the parking lot, there is a trailhead for the city park trail system, which seemed to be a little more convoluted then the more direct loop set-up in the state preserve, but it made for some nice, low-key exploration. Part of the trail follows along the stream. I really loved how they used their old wooden street signs to line the trail - great recycling! This section of the park is open to dogs. A great park - we easily did both sections in about an hour, even given that we were slowing down in places to get through the worst of the muddy/slick areas.

There is one specific trail that is dog friendly and it's either a half-mile loop or a whole mile depending on the direction you go. I very infrequently run into other people out here which is what makes it so nice. It does tend to be very muddy so I actually keep a specific pair of trail walking shoes in the car to change into. It's also quite mosquito-y, especially really early in the morning, so be sure to wear your bug spray. But the calmness of the forest and sounds of the cicadas in the late summer is my most favorite thing in the world. I'm so please to have this little bit of paradise so close to home and work. Whoever is in charge of maintenance does a really nice job keeping the trails clear and mulched. There is also very little trash and for the most part, other dog owners seem to do a pretty good job of keeping their dog's poops picked up. Although, I have bagged a few piles that were not Gwen's. I just can't, in good conscience, leave turds in the middle of the trail. Come on people, be responsible!

One of our dogs does great with other people but not so hot with other dogs. Because of this she never gets to go to a dog park. This was her first time being able to run free in a larger than yard size area and she loved it! It has a nice shelter house to keep you out of the sun. The pond edges are shallow enough the dogs can wade in and you can stand in the water as well. You bring your own poop bags and chairs and toys but there were lots of balls scattered around. I highly recommend!!

I have two girls and one is dog reactive and the other has a noisy play style so traditional dog parks aren't an option for us. Mutt's is a private dog park that you pay for by the hour to have the entire place to yourself. I couldn't believe it when I heard it! It is $10/hr per dog and you have the entire place to yourself. There's a pond, a paddle boat, a little shelter area for shade, an agility course, a human bathroom (porta pot), and all the space needed to run your dog ragged. The park owner is quick to respond when booking and always has poop bags, water, and toys for the pups. We always take our own, but it's nice to know he has some as well. You can book longer than an hour at a time, but our girls go hard quick so an hour is sufficient. The only down side is that we live in downtown Columbus and it's on the north side of Delaware so it's about 45 mins one way. But it really is worth it!

I parked near the nature center, got my bearings, and decided to hike the shorter orange and yellow trails, which looped me around back to where I started in the parking lot area. Beautiful, lots to see, "somewhat" well-marked, but I made it out, so very do-able!! I wanted to also take the "Lake Trail," but didn't realize at first that it was the paved trail that started at the Nature Center. Once I realized I was heading in the right direction, it was a quick, easy trek to the two observation "shacks" on the shores of the park's beautiful Thoreau Lake.
