One of my favorite pastimes is figuring out how to injure new and exciting things. I kick things too hard. A toe needs realigning. Most recently, I fell off a bicycle and hyper-extended my arm at the elbow. Soon after these solo physical adventures of the soreness variety, I reach out to PK for a little fix-me-up. Everyone should. PK is super knowledgeable about the ins and outs of needles - they're tiny little things that make their way into the very heart of whatever's ailing you. Actually I'm not totally sure what it is they do, but I feel a buzz in what I think are my nerves as the expertly-positioned pins help get my body to a healing place. Things start looking up after the first session, and within about 3 sessions my issues are all but gone. I'm never left feeling like the point of the sessions is to get more sessions out of me = bonus. This is probably the prettiest acupuncture place I've ever been to: the colors are soothing, there's relaxing music, and there's always a bowl of these amazing ginger chews to get you through the post-acupuncture sleepies. Reluctant to go to a doctor just to get a prescription for pain killers I decided to give acupuncture a try. Phyllis is fantastic. I discovered her thanks to Eversave or Groupon or somthing like that and I am very grateful! I went in for my migraines and for psoriasis. She said skin problems can be a pain to get rid of. I went in for just 2 treatments of acupuncture. While I was receiving my treatment she put together a plan for me of Chinese herbs and a list of supplements for me to start using. I've been using acupuncture for a little over ten years to help bring my body back into balance when things are "off." During the pre-Christmas chilly weather I went to Phyllis for the first time for a short series of treatments to ease an old shoulder injury. Her bedside manner is professional and warm, she's quick to make you feel at ease and explain the process whether it's your first acupuncture treatment or your hundredth. You'd think I'd be used to needles by now but I'm still not a fan! I appreciated that she used her tiniest ones on me and checked in with me a few times to make sure I was comfortable. The gua sha and cupping were great - really brought in some needed circulation! PK Acupuncture is located in a vintage house-turned-office space with tons of charm from the old wood floors to the great front windows looking out on 5th. I first came to PK Acupuncture over 2 years ago to help me with pain in my neck and back from a car accident. It was not the first time I had looked to acupuncture for pain relief, but it was the first time I had found effective work without it being a painful process. Dr. Kung inserts her healing needles without pain. She knows all the points that promote healing and keep me moving my head so that I can drive and tie my shoes without thinking about those car accidents any more. It is not her work on my spinal issues that prompted this overdue review. I have been suffering with phlegm in my lungs and a hacking cough for the last two weeks. My friend mentioned that I should seek acupuncture for my respiratory health. It had not occurred to me because I associate needles with pain relief and hadn't considered it for other healing needs. So, even though I had had success with the pain, I skeptically booked an appointment willing to try anything to finally start feeling better. My appointment was yesterday. She treated my respiratory problem and went above and beyond by administering some cupping and qua aha on my neck and shoulders even though my appointment was not for that ailment. She knows how much I love her pain relief work and she didn't mind killing two birds with one visit. After she was done she made me a hot cup of tea and gave me some helpful advice on how to continue my healing at home. She asked me if I felt any better, and I told her I felt no different. I went twice to visit PK Acupuncture. The first time I had a Groupon and the second time I paid full price. I didn't really feel like the first visit did much good, but it was my first visit to an acupuncturist so I didn't really know what to expect. She did "cupping" in addition to the needle treatment. I was black and blue several days from the suction cups on my skin. It was... interesting. My main complaint has been with her follow up. I've made no less than 10 requests for a receipt to file with my insurance company and have not received it. I've called, left messages, texted, sent email via the website and have gotten no response. Who runs a business this way?? In the mean time, my entire healthcare savings account is locked due to missing paperwork from PK. Unfortunately dealing with the practice has caused me more of a headache than any pain relief I ever received. So, my advice is avoid PK Wellness until the back office systems are fixed. read more
