This is by no means, a McDojo - wow! This "dojang" (Korean version of dojo) is the real deal. No gimmicky $200 "belt promotions" on a bi-monthly basis, no upgraded costly weapons classes - just self defense. I have two young sons, both of which have Tourette Syndrome, and karate works as behavioral therapy for them. Not only have I seen improvements with their TS, they both have been more respectful (bonus!) Additionally, this dojang teaches kids real self defense, as in what to really do if you are attacked by a stranger. Best of all, the cost of training here is HALF of what I was paying somewhere else. Yes, half! Low cost... Great training... Fantastic staff... What are you waiting for?!?!

Who is your Sensei & where do you train? With an astounding consistency when I would answer that I train with Shihan Paul Godshaw at the Japan Karate-Do Federation in Mission Viejo, CA I was met with a consistent response, no matter where I was or who I was speaking with.   (In the early days I was surprised by the response, but as time went on I looked forward to it... I would wait for it and then...)   The response was always first a big smile, followed a verbal "Ohhhhhh", then an immediate bow or nod, and a show of enormous respect & warmth that is hard to explain. They repeatedly extended a higher level of curtesy & respect, as if I/we were part of karate royalty. Additional respect was extended to us not because we had earned it but because Godshaw Shihan had paved the way before us. This became a secret commonly shared experience among my fellow dojo students as we would travel and train or compete it would happen time and time again. This experience increased our comradery and we would knowingly smile or wink at each other knowing that we were part of something very special that he had created before we ever came along.   It was humbling in a good way, it has made me so proud & blessed to be under the tutelage of Godshaw Shihan, affiliated with such an extraordinary martial arts lineage & dojo family. In some ways it's like having a famous father who is famous for all the right reasons & I can't help but wonder how did I get so lucky?   He is not just an accomplished martial artist, he is not just a master educator, he is not just a charismatic funny storyteller, he is a man of integrity who has earned the respect of his industry the world around.

Both my son, and now my 5 year old daughter, have been taking classes here for almost a year now. Our first encounter was with Sensei Christine. She is so friendly and easy to talk to, and basically the administrative backbone of this place. Whenever I had a question, schedule change, or whatever, she has always been so accommodating and makes you feel like you a part of a family. My kids absolutely love Sensei Jack! He always makes classes engaging and funny. He is really good with the kids. I like how they not only teach karate, but also the principles of karate and how to deal with every day life situations, like dealing with a bully. I have learned some life lessons myself while watching in on his group classes! The program itself consists of a 30-minute one-on-one with a trainer and then 3 optional 45-minute group classes (based on age). They earn stripes on their belts depending on what they have learned for that particular belt. Once they receive 4 stripes they can test for the next color belt. Tests are usually done once a month. The kids have incentives to earn "ninja dollars" which they can collect to redeem for toys at the "ninja store." The kids really loves this and gives them an opportunity to work harder and be more engaged.

Master Turner is as good with kids as he is with adults, and the other instructors, all of whom he has hand-picked, are also superb. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I've been working out here for 10 years now, and never plan to stop.
