This was a delicious dinner and really nice location for a romantic dinner. The food was delicious and there was a nice pace between one dish to the next. The server also allowed me to sample the wine first before pouring which I really liked. However we are left feeling conflicted. While we were happy with the meal and service the price we were charged at the end was a surprise. We chose this location and not the nearby Portuguese place that we had originally planned because we had learned about the $59 "Happening Gourmand" meal. I know wine is not included along with gratuity. But nowhere on the menu did it mention that for the main course if you choose the steak it will cost an additional $20. If I had known that I would have had the fish. So just be certain on what you are paying for and being charged because this was very sneaky and wasn't told about the price difference until the bill arrived. Came here to celebrate a bachelorette. unfortunately we booked first with the Terrasse William Gray and they "lost" our reservations. They did set us up in the back corner so we had lots of room. We had a prefix menu at $80 - that was set on the table as we got there so that was great. We were pleasantly to greeted and sat. I did find that our beverage orders did take quite a while to be taken and then another 20 minutes before actually arriving. As much as they were meticulous with the cleanliness of the table, I feel the follow up for drinks while we waited for our food should've been more frequent. Had it been more frequent? We probably would've ordered more beverages while we waited for our food. Once our food finally did arrive it wouldn't say it was anything outstanding nothing memorable that makes me feel like I'd like to come back. They gave us recommendations for what drinks we should try and I liked my gin cocktail my mom had the spicy margarita which was also delicious. We tried the cheese nougat (comes as a goat cheese slab) and the tuna tartare. Love this new found gem! If you're coming by car, I love the fact that it's free valet parking at the william Gray hotel before 3pm! Came here to try it out with a friend who swore by this place. You can enter this fine establishment either from the main enterance or in the back from the hotel. The ambiance was a little dark wish it was brighter I must say the mimosas really fired us up for brunch! Service: very good and friendly! We had someone always attend to us at all times but also gave us our space. Food: delicious fresh! My collegue and I ordered medium rare steaks at Maggie Oakes, and what arrived was tough, grey, and completely flavorless--like it had been cooked straight from frozen. When I raised the issue, the manager comped our wine, but didn't offer to remake the dish, which is unacceptable at this price point. Montreal is known for its amazing culinary scene, and this place in Old Port just didn't deliver. It feels like a spot geared toward one-time tourists--looks nice, takes your money, and doesn't care if you come back. WONDERFUL Brunch! My hubby & I had a wonderful & delicious brunch here on a Saturday in March. It is quite a large restaurant but still felt warm & intimate. We had a 2 course brunch and the selections to choose from were great. We each ordered something different so we can try a wide variety of dishes. Each dish was flavorful and tasty. We didn't order a dessert, but the waiter brought out a sweet chocolate dish with a sparkler on it and said "Happy Anniversary!". On a hot, humid day in July, our party of four enjoyed a relaxing lunch here. The covered deck offered plenty of shade and a nice little breeze off the river. Our cheerful waiter gave us suggestions and accommodated our request to split an entree. Other staff members worked quietly and seamlessly to refill water glasses, clear dirty dishes, and provide clean forks. The excellent food matched the service. The soup of the day, lamb and vegetable, was light yet filling. The vegetable panini--mine with chicken added--was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, with perfectly toasted focaccia bread and a filling of thinly sliced, tender cooked vegetables like zucchini and eggplant. She could not contact them by phone, but we decided to just go and see if we could get a table on a Monday night. The outdoor seating looked amazing, but they only had indoor available. We were seated in a roomy booth and our server was really good. He was knowledgeable about the different wines and made great recos regarding the menu. My hubby went with the 16 oz. aged ribeye with mashed potatoes. I ordered the cavatelli in a butter sauce with peas, prosciutto, pecorino, topped with a panko crumble. We split a caesar salad to start. Even the salad was delicious. Greens were fresh and bits of prosciutto added a nice crunch. What a night ! We were treated like royalty! Red carpet treatment from start to finish. We got an amazing seat at the front of the restaurant where we had a great view of the bar and everyone ambiance and decor was swell. We were greeted quickly by the manager who brought the menus as well as their best waiter. The manager explained to us the menu and thanked me for coming back with a smile on his face. Drinks: We decided to start the night off with the old fashion and a dirty martini. Olives were great and the old fashion was nice not to sweet even tho it had honey in it. Food: I highly recommend the seafood platter it was one of the highlights of the evening. 6 delicious tasty oysters, large fresh shrimps cocktail sauce and half a lobster. The beet salad with goat cheese was fun and fresh. I love the platting of this dish and the beets of course. Rib steaks were cooked to perfection. Juicy and on point. I loved the potato gratin that was paired with it super rich. The desserts we tried were the apple caramel crumble and the chocolate orange mousse. I preferred the apple crumble but both were made with love. Our waiter chau was amazing polite and funny. I was happy he jumped in and recommended I take the rib eye steak because it was more delicious than the steak & frite. I never had to pour my own water or wine they came by checking during the night frequently. All in all the experience was fantastic from just about everything... location to the service to the food. I visited Maggie Oakes on my last night in Montreal as it was staying in the hotel (Hotel William Gray) and I enjoyed it very much, so I was surprised that the read that the reviews are lower than expected. We made reservations for dinner and I tried the 3 course set menu (being offered in September) and ordered the Crispy Nordic Shrimp, Atlantic Lobster Pappardelle and Decadent au Chocolate. My partner ordered the Dry Aged Steak and although not budget friendly, it was his first time trying dry aged meat and he thoroughly enjoyed it and would order it again. My Shrimp and Papperdelle was beautifully flavoured and rich. The noodles were cooked to al dente and the sauce was creamy. It was a lot of food as far as a 3 course set goes, but i ate every last bite and had to roll out of there. The restaurant has great ambience and seems to be located in a very trendy and touristy area,there were long lineups during Friday and Saturday with great mix of all ages, but it felt authentic and well managed. It's not exactly budget friendly (more of a treat for most people), but I found it absolutely delicious and worth trying if you're looking for a nice place to eat with good food and company. read more

My food came out pretty quick and the steak was the perfect temperature. My fries were unfortunately cold which seemed odd given that I was 1 of 3 people in the whole restaurant.
