I had a lovely meal with a group of 9 at Maggie Oakes. The restaurant is a large open space with nice sections and a variety of seating options. The food was excellent, well prepared, and beautifully plated. For a steakhouse they had some nice lighter options, seafood and veggies included. They have an extensive drink menu and some unusual specialty cocktails. While we were there late on a Thursday night, and the restaurant didn't seem crowded, the service was somewhat slow. We had multiple waiters coming in and out and sometimes it was hard to find someone to order a drink. We had a wonderful lunch here at Maggie Oaks. We enjoyed dining inside where is more relaxing and quiet ambiance, compared to outdoor seating which is more casual. I ordered 2 course meal with Caesar salad and Orzo. Both were excellent! Caesar salad was fresh and delicious, the orzo with asparagus puree, walnuts, and apricot was very creamy, well balanced and flavorful. I loved this dish. My husband's flank steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare and very tender. Service was good but I watched our beer sitting on the bar for a while... needed to remind our server we ordered a beer (and it has been sitting there staring at us the whole time).... I think it may have been our writers first day? Not a biggie but I was done with my appetizer by the time beer came. This was a delicious dinner and really nice location for a romantic dinner. The food was delicious and there was a nice pace between one dish to the next. The server also allowed me to sample the wine first before pouring which I really liked. However we are left feeling conflicted. While we were happy with the meal and service the price we were charged at the end was a surprise. We chose this location and not the nearby Portuguese place that we had originally planned because we had learned about the $59 "Happening Gourmand" meal. I know wine is not included along with gratuity. But nowhere on the menu did it mention that for the main course if you choose the steak it will cost an additional $20. If I had known that I would have had the fish. So just be certain on what you are paying for and being charged because this was very sneaky and wasn't told about the price difference until the bill arrived. Came here to celebrate a bachelorette. unfortunately we booked first with the Terrasse William Gray and they "lost" our reservations. They did set us up in the back corner so we had lots of room. We had a prefix menu at $80 - that was set on the table as we got there so that was great. We were pleasantly to greeted and sat. I did find that our beverage orders did take quite a while to be taken and then another 20 minutes before actually arriving. As much as they were meticulous with the cleanliness of the table, I feel the follow up for drinks while we waited for our food should've been more frequent. Had it been more frequent? We probably would've ordered more beverages while we waited for our food. Once our food finally did arrive it wouldn't say it was anything outstanding nothing memorable that makes me feel like I'd like to come back. Located in the Hotel William Gray, this place served up a delicious brunch! We almost didn't go here based on the low Yelp ratings but it was raining and we wanted a cozy meal without wandering too far. They have St Viatuer sesame bagels! Great alternative if you don't want to trek across town for the famous Montreal bagels. We also had the lobster and shrimp sandwiched on a brioche toasted bun. I am currently pregnant and arrived with my 3-year-old son and my calm, well-behaved dog. Having successfully dined here with my dog three times before without issue, I asked to sit on the outdoor terrace and proactively presented a medical letter from my doctor explaining that she is my emotional support animal.While I completely understand that restaurants have dog policies and was fully prepared for a respectful discussion, the manager's behavior was entirely unprofessional. Sammy aggressively told me he could reject us if he wanted to, and then publicly stated he was "afraid of me." Being spoken to like a threat while standing there visibly pregnant with a toddler--all while trying to have a quiet, rational conversation--was deeply humiliating in front of other patrons.Customers should be able to politely inquire about accommodations without being degraded by the face of the establishment. I have reached out to senior management directly regarding this incident and sincerely hope they address his conduct. After being a repeat customer, I will not be returning. read more

We had two great experiences. We sat outside both times and loved the people watching. Sylvain our waiter took excellent care of us as we enjoyed the charcuterie board. Really yummy and just right for an afternoon snack with a cold glass of wine. We also engaged with Bekzat who told us about the dry aged steaks. We were very intrigued and decided a few days later to make a reservation. Claudie the hostess took our reservation for later that night. She was such a delight to speak with. They have a pretty large space out front with a restaurant inside as well. I would say maybe 12 tables out front where I sat. The wait staff speaks both French and English and are knowledgeable and helpful. They gave us recommendations for what drinks we should try and I liked my gin cocktail my mom had the spicy margarita which was also delicious. Love this new found gem! If you're coming by car, I love the fact that it's free valet parking at the william Gray hotel before 3pm! Came here to try it out with a friend who swore by this place. You can enter this fine establishment either from the main enterance or in the back from the hotel. The ambiance was a little dark wish it was brighter I must say the mimosas really fired us up for brunch! Service: very good and friendly! My collegue and I ordered medium rare steaks at Maggie Oakes, and what arrived was tough, grey, and completely flavorless--like it had been cooked straight from frozen. When I raised the issue, the manager comped our wine, but didn't offer to remake the dish, which is unacceptable at this price point. Montreal is known for its amazing culinary scene, and this place in Old Port just didn't deliver. It feels like a spot geared toward one-time tourists--looks nice, takes your money, and doesn't care if you come back. WONDERFUL Brunch! My hubby & I had a wonderful & delicious brunch here on a Saturday in March. It is quite a large restaurant but still felt warm & intimate. We had a 2 course brunch and the selections to choose from were great. We each ordered something different so we can try a wide variety of dishes. Each dish was flavorful and tasty. We didn't order a dessert, but the waiter brought out a sweet chocolate dish with a sparkler on it and said "Happy Anniversary!". On a hot, humid day in July, our party of four enjoyed a relaxing lunch here. The covered deck offered plenty of shade and a nice little breeze off the river. Our cheerful waiter gave us suggestions and accommodated our request to split an entree. Other staff members worked quietly and seamlessly to refill water glasses, clear dirty dishes, and provide clean forks. The excellent food matched the service. The soup of the day, lamb and vegetable, was light yet filling. The vegetable panini--mine with chicken added--was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, with perfectly toasted focaccia bread and a filling of thinly sliced, tender cooked vegetables like zucchini and eggplant. There are a lot of steak places in old Montreal. Some are on the high end of pricing and this one is more in the middle. Pricing is reasonable and all plates come with side dishes at no extra cost. Looking for a dining experience during our first visit to Montreal, our concierge recommended Maggie Oakes. She could not contact them by phone, but we decided to just go and see if we could get a table on a Monday night. The outdoor seating looked amazing, but they only had indoor available. We were seated in a roomy booth and our server was really good. He was knowledgeable about the different wines and made great recos regarding the menu. My hubby went with the 16 oz. aged ribeye with mashed potatoes. I ordered the cavatelli in a butter sauce with peas, prosciutto, pecorino, topped with a panko crumble. We split a caesar salad to start. Even the salad was delicious. Greens were fresh and bits of prosciutto added a nice crunch. The steak was cooked as ordered, portions were generous, and the glasses of wine that the server suggested went well with our meals. Overall,, a very good meal. read more
