Among what caught my eye i saw an impressively carved cinnabar lacquer area table, two large toddler marble busts, a few Italian-made coastal-scene wall-mounted moquettes made of wood, and a larger than average self-propelled wheelchair -it almost looked like a throne-on-wheels, really! So, next time you are in the city, stop by. While selling serious works they will make you feel relaxed and at ease.

Located in the working class…read moresection of Staten Island's North Shore known as Stapleton - 638 Bay Street, very near the Stapleton Station train stop and not far from the Ferry - the price range is "From two dollars and up," according to the manager. They have great hours too - well suited for working people. Closed on Tuesdays, they are open 11 am to 8 pm on weekdays and from 11 to 6 on weekends. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the items for sale are just terrific. If you want a true antique that is unique and in great shape you may pay a couple of hundred dollars but not thousands. This is not a thrift store and yet it is affordable. What caught my eye were the two very large animals in the window display. Prior to the store opening I shot a photo of the window display, focusing on one of the creatures - this image was a very popular item on flickr. My photo wound up in the "In Explore" group which is a highly sought after honour. I generally get from 200-300 hits on an image and 8-10 favourites - the window display from Love Your Furniture got over 5400 hits and 67 faves. What was the item? A large, pink, jewel encrusted, bird or mammal of some sort. When the store opened I ventured in to see what the creature was - it, and the jewel encrusted golden giraffe that graces the other side of the window display, was apparently part of a carousel at one time. This truly unique item and many more diminutive but equally interesting items await the visitor at this gem of a store. In addition to antiques the store features handmade items by Yana, one of the owners - one such item is a gorgeous decoupage end table. If you are on the Island to check out our great street art - and Stapleton is the epicenter of this activity - stop by Love Your Furniture Again Antiques. Not by their work, since I didn't actually have any work done, but with simple communication and professionalism. I stopped by in person in the summer of 2013 to ask if a small section of porcelain from a brass bed frame could be repaired. Anatoly said it would be difficult... especially since I did want to spend a lot.. but he said he would look into it and get back to me. I never heard from Anatoly once. I called him about 4 times over 7 months and he said there was no update. Whne I called to see if there was any update good or bad he said 'Try me again in a month or so'. That was it. Now some 7 months later without a single call to say 'Hey I can't help you' or a 'No luck but I'm still trying' I called him and got the usual 'I don't have anything for you' I told him how disappointed that I never recieved a single call or update even if it was to say he couldn't help. And I told him to keep the piece. I don't know if his lack of professionalism or common decency as a business owner was due to my project not being a lucrative piece for him. Or perhaps his workload being such that he didn't have a spare minute or two to update a customer... all I can say is, despite being my being very friendly and checking in with him, I felt ignored and unimportant.

The volunteers behind this effort worked extremely hard to preserve this garden from becoming an affordable housing development. They really want members of the community to volunteer and I read that you can talk to the staff about planting things on your own there. Overall very inviting. They are excited about having more community involvement! My friend vibed with one the the trees so we stayed a bit so he could climb it. Stop by if you're in the area!

Nay, let me whisper it to you: Find it in the middle of Elizabeth Street. Walk in and admire the collection of statues on your left and right. Stroll through the flower gardens, and take in all the colors -- magenta, canary yellow, fresh green. Watch children weave in and out of the flowering blooms. Entertain the idea that maybe, after all, there can be right in the world. Sundays will pass quickly here, whether you come for a stroll, a bite, or a quiet afternoon of reading. Leave through the gates, meeting oncoming traffic and hear again the hustle and bustle of the city. This is what New York is all about.
