Brought my great aunt's rickety dining chairs in for repair. I had retrieved them from my parent's house where they'd been used in the summer dining area on their screened-in porch for at least 30 years. They really showed the wear, but I loved them anyway. The joints were wobbly and the original springs and horse-hair stuffing were coming apart. Bob reglued the chairs and installed new seats with new padding and fabric he had on hand. Eight years later he fixed a broken spindle and you can't tell which one it is. An excellent job at an affordable price. read more

What a place! In the 1970s and 80s there were tons of quirky specialty shops like this run by curmudgeonly owners all over the East Village. This is definitely a throwback to that era but the stuff for sale is very well curated and not crazy expensive. Their specialty, however, is repairs. If you phone in advance, you will get the third degree on the phone - it's better to just walk in and show them what needs to be fixed. Chances are they can do it. read more

It's a charmingly cluttered antique store/antiques repair spot presided over by the all-knowing owner, Bob. I've had a pair of mid-century wooden antelopes repaired (four ears and two tails broken off) and they were perfect when picked up; inexpensive fix, too. We've purchased several unusual items we love, also at reasonable prices. And when we recently went through a downsizilng, Bob was able to have several big pieces sent to auction where we got decent prices. And if you've got an hour to kill on a quiet afternoon in the East Village, drop by and tell Bob you'd like to discuss history or politics (!) You'll find it a rollicking good time. read more

Spectacular experience working with Bob and Julio! They were friendly and very helpful in moving a one of a kind piece up 3 flights of stairs at my 4th floor walk up, despite it weighing well over 150 lbs. The shop is quaint in size, but deep in quality, I'm in love with nearly every piece they offer. Truly a must see. read more

The front desk staff is not as helpful. The owner can be a little snobby, and was not wearing a mask during my visit, as he should during the COVID pandemic. He was quick to interrupt when I'd ask questions. That said, they did a good job with my piece, but I must add that it was over-priced. There are other stores I have been to in the city that could have charged less for the same work. I'd shop around and get a quote from them before dropping off any items. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. Absolutely terrible. The one person in there we rude and condescending. There are a hundred antiques stores in New York City, don't waste your time or money here. Went in here to explore with a friend from out of town. There is a small sign towards the back of the store on the ceiling that says "keep out" - this is not a part of the store, it is a literal sign telling you to keep out of the area that is also full of antiques. Not only did I venture back there, but so did the other people in the store. The person manning the shop then stumbled back to us as if he was having a medical emergency only to condescend and belittle the people who had mistakenly wandered back. Costumer service is seriously lacking at this place, I seriously recommend not wasting your energy and more importantly your money. read more

I brought in my mother in law's scratched up, antique dining table with detailed carved legs. They performed a miracle! The table looks brand new, like the day it was purchased! I came here to see if I could get the glass to my hand mirror fixed. I was greeted by a friendly gentlemen who stopped to thoroughly examine my mirror and how it was assembled. Even through the shop does not repair glass, I was directed to a business that did. I suggest coming here first for the service alone -- much can be said for people who genuinely enjoy their craft and helping customers. read more

It was refreshing to meet someone like Bob, who owns and manages the store. I took him an old solid wood chair that was in about 8 pieces. legs all broken off. other people i had take it to said i should just burn it! but Bob and his team put the chair back together, ship-shaped, in 24 hours. i was totally AMAZED by the quality and friendliness of the service. can definitely recommend read more

A framed picture, which was part of a set, fell off my wall and smashed. I tried numerous framers, none of whom would agree to repair the picture frame and nobody could match the style either. I was about to get the entire set re-framed when finally a very high end framer suggested I bring it to Bob. She said they referred customers to him regularly. Despite the frame being in a terrible mess, Bob had it glued and repaired within 2 hours for a nominal charge, so I was delighted. He was also very friendly and chatty. The shop looks like it might be a bit of a hidden treasure trove and I reckon Bob is someone worth getting to know. read more

I don't know what this man's work is like but I wouldn't deal with him my self, because he (the owner) is one of the rudest and coarsest people I have ever met in a shop in new york . As I heard cursing in the street I vaguely wondered about, His own employee a single employee that I saw, in the shop, who works in the back, looked unhappy and stressed out . This kind of snap judgment (understandable in one dimension, purhaps ) and irrationality can spell trouble in some instances down the road. I'm not saying it would, but it might .He came in and I was then personally ( and violently ) insulted by him over a dry, close to empty bottle of water that was not mine (no dampness of any kind ) and that I had taken off of a black laquer cabinet (a sale peace), and put on his business desk. I don't know if the desk was for sale but it was being used for his business . The bottle was actually brought in by one of his clients that I was speaking to in the shop. We were very careful. I'm a restorer and collector of antiques myself. "Restoration antiques" has mostly furniture. there Is very little in the way of other antiques but some pictures on the wall it almost practically looks like a furniture shop. I'm sorry to write a review like this, over a shop I hardly know . But it's not fun, to experience such appalling and inexcusable customer relations.
