Walking through Chelsea, Furnish Green's window caught my eye. Reminiscent of the fun antique shops from the Village circa 1970s and '80s. A lot of kitsch. The store is filled with collectibles: furniture, pottery, lamps, art, '50s dresses. Well-priced ..... considering it IS Manhattan. A particular painting caught my eye. With no more space in my apartment -- the walls are filled! -- I was thinking of a friend. Art is personal. Never a good gift idea. What I love, most people don't. Except my daughter whose artistic taste frequently jives with mine. I have bought a teak credenza, a gorgeous floor lamp, and some comfortable and sturdy folding chairs so far from Furnish Green. I love their selection and taste. The staff is so kind and helpful. I couldn't recommend it more for people looking to shop second hand. If you're on the fence about buying secondhand, they really don't make furniture like they used to AND it's more environmentally friendly! Everything about this place is awesome. It's above ground inside an office building, which means you have to sign in, but comes with the massive bonus of not having to talk to anyone and not dealing with crowds at a mass-market furniture store. The guy at the desk was super chill and super nice. He helped us with the dolly which made loading our console table into a yellow cab super easy. No pressure, no stress, and tons of great pieces you're unlikely to find at the swanky joints in Chelsea and SoHo, at a fraction of the price. I can't recommend this place enough. I hope it does well, but of course, selfishly, I hope it doesn't get TOO busy. (We came in for one thing but could have easily left with 2-3.) read more

Great place, great sales people, lovely selection-however four out of four pieces, all wood, have begun to fall apart. A dresser, a vanity, a cedar chest and a desk-all stationary, none overused-shouldn't fall apart. Good prices or not, I feel taken advantage of. Disappointed. read more

Delivery time was between 10am and 12pm. I got a call at 11:40 that they would be there in 20 min. When they arrived after 12pm, I had a client and, due to Covid protocols, could not let them in. I was then subjected to extreme berating over time; their time and how I was wasting it. First by the driver and then by the woman who would not stop calling me to complain about her time. What about my time? I got multiple emails about our "agreed upon time" (which they did not adhere to) and so when they stepped on my time, well that just had no value. The owner could use some customer service training. read more

We had been to the showroom, which is awesome. Our purchase included some "online only" bookshelves, described as "light teak wood" and we trusted these would be as impressive quality as their showroom pieces. Upon delivery we were very disappointed to find out that the bookshelves are particle board and veneer. When we called to complain about it, the lady who answered apologized and mentioned their policy to bring any item to the show room for a small deposit (which becomes store credit if you don't like the item). We knew about that policy before, we just were so excited by their showroom offerings that we didn't question "teak wood" might not be solid wood. Some great finds here, just make sure you see it in person first, as the online descriptions can be less thorough than you'd expect. read more

I stopped in here just to browse around and was impressed by both and selection and how reasonably priced everything seemed to be. I'm definitely not an expert on vintage furniture and pricing, but the prices didn't seem bad at all. Everything was beautiful and well cared for. It was all pretty well organized. The guy working there was friendly and talked to my boyfriend for quite some time. I ended up purchasing two little wooden cream cheese boxes for $14 each, and now they're up on my wall, displaying trinkets! The space is relatively small but they have tons if pieces. For those who have boycotted Ikea furniture, are seeking a little quirk and character, and are on a budget... The showroom is like a very well lit, well organized storage room with that slightly musty smell of an antique store (love it!). The guys working there are friendly and helpful with suggestions. They know the inventory well and care about furniture. Rumor has it they might be moving locations, but the midtown location is easy to get to..and totally unexpected. When I call they know what I'm talking about without having to look up an order number. They even sound enthusiastic about what they're selling. Great experience with Furnish Green. I had been looking for a desk on Craigslist (in addition to places like Target, Ikea, etc) and I wasn't looking for something really specific, but I wasn't seeing much I was into. Then I found a post on Craigslist by Furnish Green for a desk I wanted to check out. I went up to their space, and while I didn't like the desk I originally came for, I found a different one that I loved! The staff was so friendly and helpful. I didn't do the delivery service because it was a bit pricey to deliver to Brooklyn, for a small item. When I came to pick up the desk (with a zipcar), the staff was helpful in getting it to the freight elevator for me. That's the only problem - you can't pick up anything bigger than a mirror on the weekends from here because of restrictions set by the building. But that's not FG's fault, and it seems like they really try to accommodate their customers. They have so many interesting pieces in their showroom; I really recommend going in person. I also feel that their prices are very reasonable. So, if you're looking for something a bit unique, definitely check this place out. :) read more

Wonderful experience with Furnish Green today. Had been looking for a wardrobe all over and found one that's a perfect fit. But aside from that- the store selection is great and so are the prices, plus their flexibility on the cost front is awesome. (They even threw in a pair of red satin disco sneaker shoes with glitter soles *!* for FREE... because they fit me and I loved them; it was therefore agreed that they should be "released back into the universe" and find a good home. You know how old-timers say "they don't make furniture like they used to?" It's true. Most of the stuff available at [affordable] design shops like CB2, West Elm, and Ikea are predicated on the fact that you'll probably break or throw out your furniture when you move in two years and replace it with yet more particleboard. Furnish Green is a really cool business that cleans up older furniture (not antiques per se, more like mid-century modern relics hidden in your uncle's garage) and re-sells it. The stuff they sell is made of solid wood and has more character than the store-bought stuff that's readily available today. Even better, it's environmentally friendly because there are no new trees killed in the process. The closet treehugger in me loves this place. read more

21 TREASURES and counting! Yes, that's how many Furnish Green items I have in my NYC apartment. I visited Furnish Green for the first time about a year ago to take a look at ONE chair and, well, one year later just about my entire apartment is Furnish(ed) Green! Friends always comment on my one-of-a-kind Furnish Green finds ranging from sculptures to an apothecary chest to lamps to dressers to a coffee table to vintage bottles to mirrors to chairs. Like a few of the other Yelpers, I've been hesitant to post a review of Furnish Green for fear of people running to this great place and buying up all of the unique and very reasonably priced finds there. Fortunately I'm just about finished furnishing my apartment, so I'm ready to share:) About a year ago I found an article about Furnish Green on the Apartment Therapy website. I had just moved into an eco-friendly building in Hells Kitchen and wanted to continue with the green theme when furnishing my apartment. I also wanted to surround myself with furniture that had some history, character and soul unlike a lot of the mass marketed (and often expensive!) stuff out there. The other catch was that I didn't want to spend a lot of money. Enter Furnish Green. Their theme is simple - rescue, reuse and redecorate. They sell very reasonably priced mid-century modern, shabby chic, retro furniture and decor. All is hand-picked by the owner from places outside of NYC or donated to Furnish Green. Each piece has a story. Just ask! Definitely check out the website, but it's well worth a trip to the the showrooms for a FURNITURE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE I PROMISE YOU'VE NEVER HAD BEFORE. I've always been greeted by a super friendly and attentive team there. The delivery guy is also great and has handled all of my purchases with care. They also have a very fair hold and return policy. The showrooms stretch across most of the 5th floor (at 1261 Broadway between 31st and 32nd streets) and are loaded with all kinds of treasures. Additionally, if you don't find what you're looking for, the team will write down a description and call/email you if they find something on one of their furniture hunting trips that they think will fit for you. (This is how I got my bedroom dresser.) They have also called me when items came in that they thought "were me" and I ended up loving the items and buying them. (This is how I got two beautiful mirrors.) The team really listens and cares and has made furnishing my apartment a fun and collaborative experience. Also, if you visit, you'll notice that Furnish Green shares studio space with a sister company dance studio. If you're fortunate enough to be shopping for furniture in one of the beautiful sunlit studios, you may find yourself testing out a mid-century modern chair while two dancers waltz by you! I had such a nice experience with Furnish Green. The piece I liked on the website had been sold by the time I got to the showroom, but I looked at a similar piece and decided against it. I then found a dresser I really liked, as well as an end table. Both were really fairly priced, especially compared to prices I'd seen for new stuff at Macy's and other boutique furniture stores. They painted the dresser for me and had it ready before the estimate. The price was great, too. And the delivery guys were absolutely fantastic--they even carried my crappy old Ikea dresser down the stairs for me and dumped it at the curb where it belongs. I will definitely be going back to Furnish Green--they have these really cute wine goblets that I should've picked up when I was there. read more

I found an item I liked on their website and called to make sure that it was still available so that I could go to their store and take a look. The young man on the phone was abrupt and unfriendly, but informed me clearly that the item was still available ("if it is still on the website, it is available.") Over an hour and a subway fare later, I arrived at their midtown location, to be told by the same young man - a thin, tweedy, short-haired blonde - that he had been mistaken on the phone and that the item had already been sold. He was completely cold and dismissive - not a hint of apology in his voice. Honestly, Craigslist has tons of great deals (better deals than Furnish Green) on great vintage furniture. Why deal with an unfriendly, unhelpful, snooty person? It is rude people, and terrible customer service, like this that continues to give New York a bad name. If Yelp allowed it, I would give them ZERO stars. read more

See, their inventory is ever-changing and they have limited amounts of any piece they get (usually just 1, or 1 set, whichever makes sense). So if I tell you all how great it is, then you might start to snap up pieces that I want. But ok, I think I'm done purchasing furniture for the time being, so I'll be nice and share. I'm with ml k. (first reviewer) that the prices are low for the quality you get. I'll take it a little further--they are a bargain. I bought a coffee table and a pair of chairs, all in a shabby chic style, to put in my recently-moved-into studio in a HK walk-up. The total bill came to well-below $200, even after considering the cab fares I paid to transport my purchases back to my apartment. That's cheaper than even Crate and Barrel, West Elm, Pottery Barn, and yes, even IKEA! After a little comparable analysis, I realized similar IKEA furniture would have had a slightly lower list price, but would have required me to trek down to Red Hook or the Jerz, lug back the BOXES myself or pay like $100 for delivery, and then assemble them. And then you're stuck with generic particle board furniture vs. unique real-wood vintage pieces. The clear winner is Furnish Green. Of course, while it worked well for me, since I was just buying a couple of pieces to round out my room, it may be harder for someone who needs to fully deck out a new place. They have a good selection of seating and desks and storage pieces, but I haven't seen any beds, for example. That said, if you want some stylish furniture, this is a good place to browse (see website) and you'll even save some money in the process. Speaking of style, I'll add that it would serve us all well to keep an open mind here! I ignored their shabby chic furniture for the longest time until finally thinking, "hey, I could try this". Since my room was 100% IKEA (classy, I know), I didn't think any of the shabby chic pieces woudl suit it at all. Well, you know what? They add a nice and unexpected depth and variety to my small space, and I was so happy with my first purchase (coffee table) that I went back for the pair of chairs. All around total win! Always answering my questions, and never being pushy trying to sell you stuff. I check their site almost daily for new furniture. Their prices are fair, and cheaper than the Brooklyn Flea. They're currently in the process of moving their showroom couple doors down (in the same building, same floor), so it's kind of a mess to walk thru right now.
