I was amazed to get a full apartment to myself for the price I paid. I could honestly see myself living in an apartment like this if I wanted to move back to a big city. The room was so big, it even had 3 closets to choose from. The iron and ironing board are in the one across the washer and dryer, so I didn't find it right away, but I found it. This place is beautiful, in a prime/safe location, and extremely clean. I was in town for a graduation and hotels were sold out or very expensive, but placemakr in Arlington was my saving grace. At the time I paid $150, but on some nights it goes for $97. It's 10 minutes away from downtown D.C. and easy to get to by metro. Everyone at the front desk is friendly and I enjoyed my stay. The only thing that could be better was an earlier check in, 4 p.m. is later than hotels usually offer. Worthy stand out -This chain has monthly book club meetings and will even provide you with the book. As a reader, I'm obsessed with this detail. I would 100% stay here again and have already recommended this hotel to my family. read more

I really tried to give Placemakr Marymount Ballston an opportunity to make this right before leaving a public review. During my stay, I paid for parking and was instructed to park on Level G3. On multiple occasions, there were no available guest spaces, so I had to park in the only spaces available, which were near reserved spaces. Despite having paid for parking, my vehicle was towed. What makes this even more concerning is that there was no collection of guest vehicle information, license plate numbers, parking passes, stickers, or window permits to identify which vehicles belonged to paying guests. Allowing a tow company onto the property and towing vehicles when there is no clear system in place to identify authorized guest vehicles feels predatory and completely unfair to paying customers. I reached out to management to resolve the situation and ultimately had to escalate my concerns to the COO. I was offered a discount for a future stay as a resolution. I appreciated the gesture and was willing to move forward. However, when I actually attempted to redeem the discount, crickets. No response. No follow-up. Nothing. That is why I'm finally leaving this review. I intentionally avoided posting publicly because I wanted to give the company an opportunity to make things right. Unfortunately, the lack of follow-through made me feel like they simply didn't care. My issue isn't just that my car was towed. I was a paying guest who paid for parking, yet there were limited available guest spaces and no clear process to ensure my vehicle would not be towed. Then, after going through the trouble of escalating the issue, even the offered resolution wasn't honored. So beware when paying for parking at this property. Guest parking is limited, and there is no clear system to identify paying guests' vehicles. You could potentially pay for parking and still find yourself dealing with a $190 towing bill. The property itself was fine, but the way this situation was handled and the lack of follow-through from management were extremely disappointing. I hope they improve their parking communication, guest experience, and accountability when issues arise. read more

Stayed at this location for a friend's baby shower. Andrea was amazing and extremely helpful. This hotel is apartment style and offers full kitchen with washer and dryer. The rooftop is beautiful is also a great view of the city. Check in and out was extremely easy. Elevator access is via the room keys so that added an extra security. There is also an Amazon convenient store inside. Scan your card to enter and you can walk out and they charge you for the items you walked out with which was pretty cool to me. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Stayed here for 4 nights during home renovations in the 2 BR 2 BA premium room with a balcony. The view and corner room really was what made the experience. We could see the Washington monument. There is also a rooftop with a small hot tub and seating areas that are open until 10PM. The elevators in the building were really slow, some of the floors are used for university housing. But overall we enjoyed our stay. read more

I stayed here over New Year's and overall it was a okay experience for me but overall it was kind of a disappointing experience. The check in process wasn't the smoothest compared to all the hotels I've stayed at, this was the first one that didn't have rooms available yet when I came after check in time, even though the booking was made months ahead of time (I booked through hotels.com). I was surprised that check in time was 3pm and they didn't have any clean rooms available at 3:30, but they did eventually find one for me after waiting a bit. I had been hoping to nap a bit since I was really tired. When I did get my room it seems the cleaning lady just finished it, and it was a semi rushed job (there was still a sock in the dryer, bedding had lint). The rooms themselves are beautiful and furnished, however the first room I received was 78 degrees when I walked in. I was unable to change the temperature unless I turned the AC on. I left it on and went to sleep but then woke up around 3am because the temperature had gone back up to 78, and it was very hot and stuffy. I had to leave the AC on the rest of the night. Also, the bathroom had a slight smoke smell but I ignored it. The water pressure in the sink was also very weak. I talked with the front desk that night and they said maintenance was gone for the day so they'll have them come and fix it tomorrow. On the second day, Nasheya at the front desk told me that maintenance had come to fix the room. I did initially ask to swap rooms since I didn't think they could fix this issue, it seems like this floor plan and the way it was constructed traps heat but then again I'm not a building engineer. So I waited longer and still the temperature was too hot, so I went back to ask her if she could change my room since I couldn't really sleep and she said she would do that, and she'd call me back once a room was available but I never got a call back. On the second night I had to go down again and ask the young Asian man at the front desk and I was relieved he was able to switch my room then, which was around 5pm. I did really appreciate that he did this. The second room was much, much better- water pressure in the sink was normal (not a sprinkler), room was much quieter and cleaner. I really think their check in time should be moved if they don't have any rooms available at 3pm. My suggestion is change your check in time to 4pm or whenever the cleaning people get done. For a hotel that is charging $49 cleaning fee they should make sure this is taken care of logistically so rooms are available by check in time. I wouldn't recommend this over a hotel mainly due to the unreliability of the rooms being available, although it's modern and chic looking I think the main positive was the aesthetics, while the operations and customer service could be improved. If this was a hotel they would have immediately switched their guest into a new room instead of having maintenance come up to "fix" the issue when it didn't really resolve anything. Overall I was pretty excited to stay here but other than the aesthetic furnishings and gym, I would personally pick a better option in Arlington/Ballston. read more

Don't do it. The room they gave us looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The floors were sticky, there were ROACHES, there was dust all over and mold in the bathroom and air filters haven't been changed in god knows how long. They gave us this room a couple of times when we stayed for medical visits and booked on expedia. My wife is very sick (which they were aware of) and we had traveled to dc and stayed at placemakr several times for drs appts. Despite being loyal customers and paying a lot of money to stay there, this was our punishment for booking on expedia. I called them out and showed them my pictures. I wrote to managers Derrick Strickland and Synn Noble and they offered to "make things right". They are ignoring me after several attempts to take them up on their offer. read more

I can't say enough about this place. It is amazingly beautiful and the staff, including Nia is just simply amazing. I wish I could give it 10 stars. The GM is also a delight and has helped me and my 11-year-old daughter as we navigate life's transitions. It's walking distance from everything...and my daughter loves the candy that the GM gives her at the front desk. :) I have the best 10th floor view:). read more

Do not stay at this property! They called the police on me after I called my bank & they confirmed that I didn't receive a refund. They took it too far & I will be suing. Housekeeping entered my room TWICE without my permission while I was undressed, stole things out of my room, and never showed up for housekeeping on time, not even once & I was there for a month! I was packing to leave at check out when Walter called me & ensured me that he would fix this. He asked me to call my bank. The entire time I was nice, polite, & never disrespectful. I sat on the phone with him for almost two hours. During this time I told him that I wasn't feeling well & that I needed to leave because I was feeling sick. During the conversation he started to become disrespectful, but in a passive-aggressive manner. I politely told him to be respected. He apologized & then told me that he would extend my stay until Tuesday to replace the refund I hadn't received a month and a week. Keep in mind, the entire time he's telling me that he's going to extend the stay. Then he calls me back, speaking nervously. He then told me that he was putting me out of the hotel. I was like, "What, why? I haven't done anything & you just told me to stay. I was making reservations to go somewhere else, but he told me to stay. He says, "You have one hour to leave or we will have the police escort you out". He set me up to harass me. The police came & he lied & told them that I was violent & causing havoc at the property. Never ever have I been treating, cursed, or even got loud. If I was violent & all of the other lies he said, why did he offer to extend my stay & why didn't they put me out when they claimed I was violent? It was a complete lie. Remember, he told me to leave in an hour. Then he lied & told the police that he gave me until 4 o clock, he never did. He gave me an hour to pack a lot of luggage, while I was throwing up, & trying to get my service dog situated. Read the email for more ridiculousness. Note that he said that he's sorry he didn't meet my expectations and he was going to have authorities remove me. As if I was trying to stay in that raggedy place. This is AFTER he told me to stay. Absolutely nothing transpired after that except me telling him to be respectful. This is not a place for women to be alone! It gets better, he had the police give me a trespassing paper & demanded that I delete any recordings of him, but he called my business phone number & it states that he was being recorded & I also told him he was being recorded . That's why he asked me to erase it because I have evidence of the entire situation. He did this because I politely told him to be respectful when we were on the phone. Nothing works here. Fairly decent Apt. Hotel. I was upgraded to a 1 bedroom because I had to wait for my room a little bit after 4. I was also Comped for my parking. I had no issue with the hotel and staff. I really wasn't feeling the hoodlike clientele. 2 am. arguing in the hallway, a Mother and 5 wild kids treated the hot tub like a swimming pool and the constant smell of weed. Being an employee of a NC Police agency I can't be subjected to the Weed or other illicit activities. Just an FYI. read more

If you dont mind , low quality kitchenware , broken coffee maker, bare minimum supplies , having to find the maid , to get supplies , ( one nice thing , maids were very friendly ) , loud parties from 11pm till 4am , being told there is no quite time period , staff members who offered no help, or acknowledged you, except the maids) , parties were over the top, so loud sleep was impossible , very uncomfortable for your peace of mind, a toddler knocking at your door at 1am, crying for his dad, helped the child calm, called staff , no response in the 30 minutes of having no one to know who the child was, no response from staff at all, the location was nice , but not worth all the stress ,lack of sleep, lack of supplies, lack of staff members who cared, cookware that was very old , Teflon peeling off , etc. negative on kitchen ,its not a pleasure. I only write to let people know . Staying at a Placemakr, was a horrible experience. I do not know why the partying is allowed? Do not recommend not even the 1 star ,I had to give. read more

The manager Ms. Marietta is such a beautiful person inside and out. She made she she addressed my questions and concerns and it really seems like she cares. Room was nice and it was clean. Bed was not super comfortable .Staff was friendly. Location was good as it was easy to walk to restaurants and Metro. Safety wise not sure the building is as secure as they claim since the majority of the time when I got in the elevator I didn't need to touch my key fob to the sensor to be able to select a floor. The sensor just stayed green most of the time so anyone from the outside could come in and get to any floor. Quiet hours posted are 10pm to 7am. Our experience was loud parties a couple of rooms down and into the hallway outside our door until the wee hours of the morning. Nobody monitors this situation it appears so of course the students who live there are going to do this. read more

There are not enough adjectives to express my gratitude to the hotel front desk team that made a terrible trip bearable, but let me try. Spectacular, incredible, stupendous, life-changing, fabulous to name a few. The front desk team allowed me to check in early, upgraded my room, and looked after me during my trip. They could tell it was a rough one with a friend in the ICU at VHC. The room (1016) was like a small house; I only wanted to live in it forever. The hotel is very tech-oriented, which is excellent for me. I will never stay anywhere else when I am in NOVA again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. read more

This hotel generated a price, then -- despite stating "skip all the extras" -- generated a new price that included a hidden fee for "cleaning" for $49 * EVEN THOUGH* the price said it included all fees. This is hidden charge is under a compressed menu of "taxes". The larger the space, the more they charge you. I tried again with a slightly nicer unit, and the hidden price was an extra $89 (I have screenshots). If you want to be given a phony price that will change once make the reservation, then come here. If you want honest, transparent pricing, then try somewhere else! read more

There are other choices that will offer more services and competent staff. Problems at check in because they weren't listening. Check out was chastised when I asked about the handling of parking hanger. Garage has unsafe set up. No ability to use phone and doors secured. TV has no local channels. Everyone is expected to have an apple account. They understand their system and expect you to be familiar....like going to front desk for toilet paper. This was a wonderful stay! The staff was very welcoming and helpful with the check-in and check-out process. Our room was spotless and included a kitchen, TV with streaming apps, and a very comfortable bed. Overall the view and ambiance made this room very inviting. Placemakr was great for a temporary stay. The rooms were very clean, and had everything we would need for a short or long-term stay. The kitchen was especially well stocked. The location was ideal, a fairly short walk from the Ballston metro station, and very close to both a Target and the Ballston Quarter mall, which had an excellent food court. The staff was friendly and professional and made us feel very welcome. I would definitely stay again, especially if I was looking for somewhere to stay for a longer period. read more

Student residential side only: This building is run by very unprofessional individuals. Have any problems? Well they will never be resolved because none of them respond to emails. If they do, it takes weeks and probably will not be resolved. They take 0 responsibility for their actions as well as 0 accountability. They are here for the money and will screw all of the students over to get it. They rarely notify students of potential work in the building nor the fact that someone can reserve the rooftop and yell at you if you come up there. Most students will not live here next year because this place is so awful and most of the staff especially the managers and higher ups should be fired because of their unprofessionalism. If you were thinking about leaving here, don't. It will be the worst experience. Oh and there's a good chance you'll get stuck in the elevator. read more

My girlfriend and I spent the weekend recently at the Placemakr in Ballston, and found it to be the perfect combination of apartment amenities with the proximity to action of a Washington DC hotel. The location is great, and there's plenty to do in the immediate area, with restaurants, shopping, and bars within walking distance. Even more, the Metro is just a few blocks from the hotel, meaning the monuments and nightlife of DC are just a few stops away. The unit itself was spacious, with large windows, a full service kitchen, and local coffee available in-unit. There's a 24 hour gym on the first floor, and a great jacuzzi and gathering space on the roof. Staff was friendly and helpful, and few things beat seeing the National Cathedral and Washington Monument from the roof of your hotel. Ultimately, the Placemakr is a great option for DVM trips, whether business or pleasure. I highly recommend it. read more

Placemakr solved all my woes with hotels by creating a room that felt like my own apartment! The living area was so comfortable and perfect for snuggling up and watching a movie. The two bedrooms were MASSIVE to the point where I couldn't figure out which was the "master". I really enjoyed that I could put my leftovers in a full sized fridge and even heat them up the next day. I think this is a really great option for those looking for a homier alternative but still like the luxury of being in a hotel. read more

This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. When I found this hotel I thought it was so nice and was so excited to stay here. I booked it for my birthday and had been looking forward to the stay for weeks. When we arrived, the young man at the front desk was nice but the check in took way longer than expected. Once we got to our room, we settled in unpacked and started getting ready for our evening plans. Everything was fine until we realized the tv didn't work and there was no Wifi in the room. We called down and we're told to connect to the Wifi in the room next door. We did, but the tv still didn't work. Went to the front desk, where we were told we could switch rooms, (extremely inconvenient considering I had unpacked everything and started getting ready) The main reason I booked this room was for the balcony ... and we were moved to a room with NO balcony. The bathroom also looked different from the first room. The man at the front desk made us do THE most when it came to switching the rooms, having us leave our stuff outside the room, come back down to give the key back , then get the new key ,go back to the original room retrieve our stuff and go to the new room. Also, he asked us WHO checked us in... when it was HIM. How he forgot that quickly.. I have no idea. We went back to the front desk after moving to the new room to explain why the situation was unsettling for us , the room was slightly different , the whole situation was inconvenient.. at one point the man said he was "trying to be nice" which was even more upsetting because what does that even mean? He kept saying he was trying his best, that he "understands" and that he was newly hired and this is how he was taught. Etc etc , which is fine. But the comment about trying to be nice to us was unnecessary because we were being very calm and kind considering the situation. When asked if there was someone else we could speak to about the situation, he said it was only him there .. which made no sense to me since he asked us who checked us in. Once we went back to the new room , we tried to continue on with our evening, though our plans were now pushed back because of all the shenanigans. He then called to clarify what the original issue was in the first room because he was emailing his manager. We explain AGAIN... he calls back sometime later to say that his manager will refund the parking($25). Which I think is odd. Parking wasn't an issue , THE ROOM was. I paid $205 for the ROOM. I feel the appropriate way to handle the situation would have been to offer a discount on the room or be given an upgraded room. The man then tells us that we'll get our money back "tomorrow" .. it's been 5 days and I still haven't received my refund. The next morning at checkout , the girl at the front desk was not friendly AT ALL. She took our keys and said "you're good to go" then when we attempted to take the elevator back to the garage , we realized we couldn't do so WITHOUT the key .. so no, we weren't good to go. At that point, I was so fed up with the entire trip that I grabbed all my luggage and took the 3 flights of stairs to the garage so I could get out of there. NEVER AGAIN. I also want to add , management should be ashamed of themselves for leaving the newly hired young man to run the hotel by himself on a weekend. I felt bad for him. He should have someone there with him if he is that new. He should not be responsible for handling manager-type situations. read more
