This was such a fun store to browse around in. At first I didn't consider stopping by because I did not need any supplies, but I'm so glad we pulled over. It's a hardware, souvenir and coffee shop all rolled into one. I usually don't buy any clothing with town names but I couldn't resist grabbing a sweater. We were staying in a cabin in Leavenworth about a month ago, and needed to find a cooler for all the food we had brought that needed to be kept cool on the way home. We stopped by Plain Hardware since it was super close to us. Even though it just says "Plain Hardware" on the outside, don't let that fool you! This place has a ton of stuff! It's hard to not grab all the cute gift stuff they have here. There's so much of it! Lots of locally made products too, which is cool. But did we find what we came for? We did not - no coolers. But the grocery store next door had it, so it was all good. Any excuse to check out a local shop is A-OK in my book! read more

Plain hardware has EVERYTHING you could need for a small cabin community without running into the big city. For tourists, the gift shop portion of the store may not be as large as Arlington hardware, but can compete with quality and style. Their buyer knows outdoor fashion and has the cutest quality outdoor clothes for skiing/hiking. They also have tourist merch like sweatshirts and hats that are so comfortable and cute. The coffee part is always packed, but they keep it running smoothly with minimal wait times. I prefer my coffee medium, so for me, it's fantastic coffee. They have all the milk alternatives, which is a huge bonus! I haven't had the baked goods, but they look tasty. Summertime be on the lookout for the outdoor farmers market with oils/vinegars, leather goods, jewelry and produce stands just to name a few. The homemade donuts are a hit in our friend group. We love plain hardware and usually end up there daily to peruse the aisles when over in this area. read more

I have always liked the variety in this store. However in this time of COVID they are not adhering to the mandates. There is a sign out front that states the mandate of needing to wear a mask. I'm visiting from out of town. I stopped by here in The morning and ordered an iced cappuccino, and even explained to the barista that just means less milk than a latte. (Because cappuccinos have less milk than lattes). The batista nodded and said "okay, " which I thought meant she'd understood this basic request. Nope! Instead of giving me an iced cappuccino, they gave me an iced latte. When my girlfriend brought me the drink she said "did you order an iced cappuccino? I overheard them talking and saying there was no such thing as an iced cappuccino 'just make her an iced latte,' I wasn't sure if it was you they were talking about. " It was me. So basically I jgot a LOT more milk than I wanted and the espresso here was very weak. All I wanted was half as much milk as in a latte, so that I could actually taste the coffee. While we were ordering, there were people standing very close right behind us not wearing masks and wearing MAGA hats instead. They are not enforcing the indoor mask rule in here. We also ordered two bagels toasted with cream cheese. The bagels just taste like cheap sliced bread and are very thin, and they don't actually put cream cheese on your bagel, they just give you a tube of cream cheese. It's very gross. I will not come here again. If you want the most basic level of safety (masks required indoors) and for them to understand the simplest request that you might be accustomed to in any city, do not come here! read more

Washington state's indoor mask mandate applies to the entire state, including this business. On two recent visits, NONE of the staff were masked inside. ALL of the customers were. This is unacceptable and shows disrespect to the community. I have been a long time customer and used to enjoy shopping, but I will not be back. It is called "public health" because the actions of each individual effect the whole public. It is not a choice to choose to "stop" at a stop sign or not. We have vacationed near Plain for many years and love this little store . They have great prices on rentals and there chili will warm your cold bones. You'll have a hard time resisting the cute selection of gifts as well. We took our girls and their partners cross country skiing in their groomed trail. The best part about our run was seeing the wild turkeys and no, that's not what was in our flasks. They were the only wildlife we saw so it was a pleasant surprise. Love this place read more

Having a youth retreat at Stonewater Ranch - much to my surprise and delight dropped in out of espresso desperation only to find some very good espresso at the Plain Hardware Home & Garden!!! The staff is attentive, knowledgeable and darn good baristas. Then, there's the hardware and gift shop - whoever is the buyer for these parts of the store has their stuff together!!! I can't believe there is a store this cute in a small town like Plain (4 miles from lake Wenatchee Park). This store combines 3 things tourists would love. They sell coffee at front and they have so many choices. I took a few minutes reading their menus. At the middle of the store is souvenir zone and the back is hardware zone. The store settings is cute enough to make my daughter wants her bedroom to look like that. They also have many sizes of rob I need for tiding my kids tubes with trees while they playing in the river. Our group walked in - took one look at the young maskless checker laughing loudly in the face of the masked customer who was trying her best to back away - and walked right out. The town of Plain, WA consists of a grocery that can't rival a 7-11 here in Seattle (except in prices) and a hardware store that is more of your small-town general store than the major "home improvement centers" that we city-folks have. Don't blink; you'll miss it. Plain Hardware is actually where most of the locals order their building materials for the temporary or not-so-temporary structures that are surrounding the town. There are some RIDICULOUS houses that have been built recently, all from materials delivered from Plain Hardware. Hard to believe that this little place, with it's hand-made soaps, jewelery and tourist-y clothing items is THE spot to get your lumber, plumbing, electrical and landscaping goods. What they don't have in the store, they can order for you and have delivered. Which is usually best, given the remote locations of some of these homes. Can you bring your dog in? I did. The staff was so sweet to him; he got a biscuit and scratches and even gave out some smooches. There is a coffee stand just inside the door for those Seattle-ites who can't make their own latte here in the "wilderness". And if you have nothing better to do, you can sit in their porch swing and pass the time with folks going in and out. They apparently rent cross-country ski equipment, but I have yet to visit them when it's snowing. Maybe someday, I'll be able to speak to the quality of their rentals! read more

I can't claim knowledge of the store--I've been in once and it seemed very nice. I can, however, claim knowledge of the coffee bar and the people, and both get a resounding thumbs up! On our way in to Leavenworth to float the river we stopped in for a coffee and my snobby city-boy judgments were blown out of the water. What a fool! Expecting drip coffee and some cream and sugar I was pleasantly surprised to find not only coffee of the iced variety, but an entire espresso bar complete with flavorings. The coffee was delicious, and the staff was really kind and just a pleasure to interact with. The best part of the whole adventure was probably the small-town neighborly feel of the place. I felt like I was visiting friends. On a cork board above the the condiments table are various index cards with names and coffees on them--coffees that previous customers have bought and left for their friends, family, or random strangers to pick up when the come in. The board was pretty packed. What a wonderful idea from a wonderful place. If you have a chance to pass through this beautiful area, it's worth stopping in. read more

The staff is helpful in making recommendations and to keep you company while they make your drink. As an added bonus this hardware store has a nick knack and Jewelry store. I recently just returned from a 3 week vacation to Plain. I found this place the first week and made it a point to stop in 2-3 times each week we were there! They make great coffee and teas and their gifts are original and interesting and good quality. They sell a large variety of the Life is Good line, as well as some really cute clothing. And of course, your regular hardware stuff. :) I love the porch swing out front. I wish I could have brought my doggies in with me, but they have a permanent doggie there so I totally understand. Located in the town of Plain, this is by far the neatest hardware store I have ever been to. The drive down into Plain from Leavenworth itself is beautiful. The front of the store has super cute gifts, jewelry and some really unique items. I bought a really cute pair of earrings that I have been getting a lot of compliments on. The back is dedicated for more household needs , which could be useful if you are in need of building materials. The espresso I had was really good! OK this is a weird recommendation for a hardware store out in the middle of nowhere but they have super cute clothes! The prices on the clothes aren't ridiculous either especially if you hit the sale rack. I just snagged a great sundress there a few weeks ago. On top of cute clothes it is also a great place to get a latte if you're out on Lake Wenatchee or in Leavenworth. We usually stop there for coffee on our way out of town or just go there to check things out and maybe pick up some toys for the kids. Of course it is also a real hardware store, so if you need something along those lines they will have that too. :) read more

Their coffee stand is friggin' awesome. Service is quick and their drinks are really dang good - even better than our usual coffee shop on the west side where we live. A convenient stop for most of what you might need while off the beaten path over Steven's Pass. Although I live in Seattle I wouldn't consider myself much of a coffee connoisseur, but I grabbed a drink here and it was great. The staff helped me with directions a great brunch spot. There are snowshoe and cross country ski rentals we plan on trying next time we visit the area.
