The coaches (Ahmed and Younes) were great dealing with small kids with short attention spans and who don't always listen. The kids always had fun and loved getting their stickers at the end of class. Our class was outdoors in the Riverdale area of the Bronx (Fieldston soccer field) which was a perfect and well maintained location. While success at meets is important, I wanted a gym that also prioritized my daughter's self-esteem, motivation, and -- most importantly -- her love of gymnastics. So, we took some time to explore our options, visiting a few nearby gyms and taking advantage of trial classes. The moment we stepped into Mid Island and met Meghan, the owner, we knew instantly that we had found our new gym home. Meghan's love for children is apparent in everything she does -- from her warm, welcoming demeanor to her flexibility in accommodating her students' busy schedules. The coaching staff at Mid Island shares that same passion. They not only teach the technical skills of gymnastics but also nurture the social and emotional growth of every child. Each coach brings their own unique style and perspective, which gives gymnasts a well-rounded approach to learning new skills. Yet, no matter their individual methods, one thing is consistent -- their genuine care for the athletes and love for the sport. The facility itself is large, clean, and thoughtfully organized. Classes flow smoothly from event to event thanks to well-planned rotations that ensure groups have plenty of time to practice while avoiding overcrowding. Beyond the technical training, what has meant the most to me is the uncompromising commitment to safety. As a mom, I have peace of mind knowing the coaches prioritize my daughter's physical readiness and proper form over everything else. She feels secure enough to be brave here because she knows her coaches truly have her back. But the real magic of Mid Island is the profound sense of family Meghan has built. She doesn't just run a business; she nurtures a community. Through the Friendsgiving gatherings, festive holiday parties, and the beautiful end-of-the-year banquet, Meghan creates "out of leotard" moments that turn teammates into sisters. These traditions have given my daughter memories (and friendships) that I know will last a lifetime. The friendships I've made with the other parents have been just as life-changing. We aren't just sitting in a lobby together; we've become a support system. We've laughed through the long meet weekends and formed our own bonds during the gym events Meghan hosts. There is nothing quite like sitting in the stands with people who have become your dear friends, cheering for every single girl on that floor as if she were your own. In a sport that can so often feel high-pressure and individual, Mid Island has given us a warm, supportive village. I stopped by at this pickleball club last month for an open play. It was a random find for me, just…read morelooking up indoor facilities on Long Island. I called the front desk and the staff were able to fit me in for a time slot that had openings. It's been a hot minute since I've been on Long Island; I had forgotten how deep Melville actually was...lol Literally on the border of Nassau and Suffolk. This location had a large parking lot that was shared with the other businesses adjacent. Inside, the courts feel pretty big, with plenty of room on the sides and back to maneuver and run for difficult shots. Court surfaces are smooth and well maintained and the facilities are very clean. Ceiling height was adequate for most lobs to be successful. People I played with were mostly friendly and competitive. One thing I was not expecting was how old the demographic here is; my estimate, the average age in that time slot I played in was 55-60. Nevertheless, this was a nice facility to play at. I don't know if I'll ever go back though because it's so far out of the way coming from Queens.

Todays visit to the Community Center in Syosset Woodbury Park had an Hour long Holiday Magic…read morepresentation by the Silver Songbirds. ( see pix) For those who might be using a GPS be aware once entering the park to make aright turn and follow to the back parking lot where the Center is. The group was lead by Susan Lilli's - Conductor & Narrator. They sang a variety of holiday songs and did a few skits, also handing out candy canes to the audience. "Nancy" played the drum for " Little drummer boy". They ended with "Auld Lang Syne wishing the audience good holidays and Happy New Year. In the back there were a few snacks for the sharing. The building itself has some children's decor, a display of wall tiles and a little Christmas tree in the hall.

We are fortunate to have them as our granddaughters coaches, they could not be more patient and caring. They have managed to not only keep it fun for the kids but they are actually teaching them a little soccer at the same time. These two gentlemen have made our Tuesday mornings one of our most fun activities, something our granddaughter really looks forward to. You should be quite proud and feel fortunate to have Coach Benny and Coach Darren as representatives of Happy Feet. They are awesome. So why not a 5-Star rating? Things are certainly buttoned up on the field (which is the most important aspect to me) but the administrative end is a bit of a crap shoot. Communication is tough, trying to register/pay on the website almost impossible, etc. Iron out this end and you would be near perfect! Thank you for our coaches!
