    Catfish with a baked potato

My husband has wanted to come to the Plainsman for a long time! He just finished his medium rare steak! "Best steak I've had in a long time!" He didn't salt the steak it was seasoned perfectly. We had the salad bar - the blue cheese dressing was outstanding! I had the catfish, it was excellent. Well worth the drive! We will be back next time we come to Nebraska!

Amazing value and food. Friendly staff. Very attentive. Everything is well seasoned and spectacular!

Covered wagon salad bar of course

Old school Nebraska steakhouse atmosphere. Opened in 1978 - decor probably hasn't changed much, but I like that about it. Loved the covered wagon salad bar - although contents weren't amazing - needs more fresh veggies. They're known for their prime rib - mine was excellent, with fresh horseradish (not the creamy kind). The beers are super cold in frozen mugs, wine selection not so much. If you want great prime rib, baked potato and all the iceberg with bluecheese you can eat - highly recommend the Plainsman. Besides the prime rib, other menu choices not as top notch, mom had the pork tenderloin sandwich and wasn't as pleased as I was with the prime rib. The staff was super accommodating and very helpful.

Parking is downtown diagonal street parking. The inside is decorated nicely. Old brick and wood feel with a cool bar towards the front . The partially open kitchen fills the back of the long narrow restaurant. The service was great. Someone from the kitchen brought out each plate. The Old Fashioned was decent, but it did lack the single cube that takes the cocktail to the next level. The small wedge salad was plenty and it was amazing. The Chicken and pasta dish was amazing. Great flavor. The chicken and pasta were both cooked perfectly. I loved everything about this place. That craft cocktail would take you to perfect. Thanks. I enjoyed it.

The food began with a small plate of bacon wrapped shrimp with homemade bbq sauce that were fantastic. We then shared a small strawberry pecan salad that was very good. (A sweeter dressing like Raspberry Vinaigrette would be a nice touch.) Our entree was a 8 oz. Filet cooked to perfection! Sides were macaroni and cheese and brussel sprouts. Both equally delicious. We loved our bottle of Riesling... White Rabbit. Will definitely be having that again. And to end the night, we took home the most scrumptious crème brûlée! I can't wait until our next visit.

They decided to omit the fries that come with the kids order and add exactly 13 pickle chips to it. Providing us not with what we paid for and a disappointment all around. The popcorn shrimp was consumed with disappointment for a lack of fries, my partner was disappointed that so little pickle chips were received instead of the proper side that was ordered. $20 charged for one item that was worth less than the two items ordered that were falsely combined. Then we unpacked the side of sweet potato fries to find exactly 10 fries, for $8, I remind you. It looks like maybe one potato was cut up to provide this side. To feed all of us when we expected a container full of them. The real kicker is that they were still hard and partially uncooked. The sandwich was the only item that was provided correctly. This is the second time they've failed to provide an order as we made it. We will never be returning. What a joke. The food doesn't even taste that good. It all tastes and looks cheap. Photos: Sweet potato fries, sandwich order. Not pictured: The joke of the combined kids meal/side that wasn't filled correctly. It was consumed before we decided to write the review.

Warm and friendly. They have a decent drink selection and that made me happy right away. I ordered a draft beer, an IPA that was local to Nebraska. The menu has something for everyone, I started with the deviled eggs and they were amazing, just like Ma used to make except better they had little pieces of crispy bacon on them. Brilliant. I chose the Ribeye, Rare. I also went with a loaded baked potato. My meal arrived pretty quick and I was glad to see a piece of garlic toast. The steak was perfectly prepared, the potato was indeed loaded. I would recommend the ribeye to everyone. Our server could not have been better, she knew the menu well. Like I mentioned, the drink selection was nice. Settled for the Blanton's and an Eagle Rare to top of the night. Then the server brought up desert, oh Brother. Just what I needed. LOL, I chose the Raspberry Lemon Drop Cake. WOW WOW WOW it was delicious. I look forward to visiting the Barrel Bar again.
