This joint may just be my favorite place to eat in Hastings so far. We were warmly greeted and seated. There weren't many people when we arrived. It feels like an older family run place. Warm and friendly.They have a decent drink selection and that made me happy right away. I ordered a draft beer, an IPA that was local to Nebraska. The menu has something for everyone, I started with the deviled eggs and they were amazing, just like Ma used to make except better they had little pieces of crispy bacon on them. Brilliant. I chose the Ribeye, Rare. I also went with a loaded baked potato. My meal arrived pretty quick and I was glad to see a piece of garlic toast. The steak was perfectly prepared, the potato was indeed loaded. I would recommend the ribeye to everyone. Our server could not have been better, she knew the menu well. Like I mentioned, the drink selection was nice. Settled for the Blanton's and an Eagle Rare to top of the night. Then the server brought up desert, oh Brother. Just what I needed. LOL, I chose the Raspberry Lemon Drop Cake. WOW WOW WOW it was delicious. I look forward to visiting the Barrel Bar again. read more

Was traveling thru town and saw some good reviews so gave it a try. Definitely stop by and grab some food or a drink!! Food was excellent and the staff was super friendly and attentive. Burger was perfectly juicy, fried crispy and tasty, chicken salad was done well and the salmon was perfect!! This is a super cute place that it seems the locals definitely come to hang out and the family's also feel comfortable to have dinner. Love it!! read more

Pretty solid reviews on here. The locals must love it. To me it felt like I stepped into a small town restaurant from the 70's. It was packed with a bunch of locals. We were seated promptly. The waitress was friendly. This is where the awesome ended. I asked for an old fashioned. She said no problem. I asked for a bourbon list and she brought it back to me. I chose Buffalo trace. She came back and set my drink down. She said we already made it with Pendleton, I'll get you with the Buffalo Trace in the next one. The waitress recommended the Chicken Parm pasta so I ordered it. She brought me Chicken Alfredo. I guess they bring you whatever they feel like. Wasn't worth the time. I just ate it. It was ok. The old fashioned was bourbon on the rock with a cherry. I run a truck and stoped in town to pick up a load I was referred to this place by a local so I thought I would give it a try My burger came on a hot dog bun with no vegetables I'm not sure what you guys call a burger here in Nebraska but in Texas that's definitely not it the gas station xxl burger up the road is better However I don't recommend but this is a small town and I'm sure locals love it but if your passing threw just keep driving read more

I took my son and two soccer companions to Barrel before the start of the Hastings Soccer Camp, at the recommendation of a close friend. The place is a bar, with food. Well packed for a Monday night, we seated ourselves and I tried to garner what everyone else was eating. Heaping plates of taco salad, pasta, steak, and other food was around. We were told the burgers were among the best in Hastings. Living in Kansas City, we are blessed with the best burgers and BBQ in the country. Our burgers arrived with a pickle and chips. The burger was very tasty, but we felt disappointed by the bun, and a bag of chips. We had hoped for fries or onion rings as an alternative, but that was not an option. The burger was very good, don't get me wrong, but we were left wanting more good, and more choices as sides. We will still probably go back, when in Hastings. read more

Where to begin. Mother's Day 630. 6+ adults and two small toddlers. This was not my choice and hadn't been to the barrel bar in 5+ years. Menu consists of steaks, more steaks, a piece of fish, and a grilled chicken entree. All come with a baked potato. Except they were all out of baked potatoes so a bowl of soup or a lettuce salad with dressing. Shredded lettuce with dressing... nothing else. They also had coleslaw and macaroni /potato salad on their menu. We were told they were out of that too. Burgers come with a bag of potato chips. No fries as they have no fryer even. Burgers are served on a sub sandwich type bun. A burger and chips is easier and faster from a food truck. Kids... they have no kids menu. Nothing. I have two toddlers and they have no kids menu. So I ordered them an order of nachos to split. Nachos. It's corn chips, chili, and shredded cheese. Side of salsa and sour cream. Not a large portion either but there's not much to chips with chili to pass off as nachos. It was so disappointing. I don't plan to return if I can help it. read more

The char burgers were fine and the price for our meal for two was reasonable. I was horrified however when I saw our waitress collect the squirt bottles for mustard, ketchup and barbecue sauce off of a neighboring table. She put her entire hand over the lips of the bottles and gathered them up this way, so that the palm of her hand was pressed into the bottle openings. Then she proceeded to stand at the bar with her back to the customers and play with her hair to put it up better into a ponytail. Not sure why people come here. Has to be my least favorite burger in town, served on a hot dog bun, terribly small choice of sides, extremely limited and poor selection of beer on tap. My dad said his bloody Mary was ok, my grandma liked her soup it seemed. During lunch it appeared busy, but mostly just old people talking to each other from table to table. The guy behind me at the other booth kept bumping his arm into my back. I feel bad for the waitress working as she was almost forced to laugh at one of her table's ridiculous jokes about tipping 2%. I'll only be back if I HAVE to. The decoration is different, a giant elephant ear with a painting on it, and an old gas pump with a fish tank built in. Dropped in here on advice of my parents on a cross-country trip. Cheap, tasty steak. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Definitely a local spot.

Sadly, they must have changed the buns their char-burgers come on...a very boring hoagie roll now. That's where the 5th star went. And believe me, I have eaten plenty of char-burgers in 51 years and the one just this past April was just not up to par with my memories. Sorry. read more

Awesome steak. Love the atmosphere. Good music and better people. I frequent here a bit because it's one of the best spots in town.

Highly recommend getting a Moscow Mule, one of the few places left that serve it in a copper mug.
