It served as an elementary school until two new elementary schools were built in Manhasset and it became a park in the late 1980s. It is the site of most major Manhasset public events including Christmas Tree lighting, Memorial Day and 9/11 ceremonies. Weddings take place in the gazebo occasionally. The children's playground is very popular every day. It is in the center of town by Town Hall, the LIRR station, restaurants and shops. Many people sit there to have a cup of coffee, watch the children play, see their neighbors, or watch the world go by.

If there is a big event here there is plenty of street parking. You walk through the entrance and are immediately greeted by flowers... Lots and lot of flowers. The gardens are divided into different sections all of which are great for photos. They have footbridges, rock gardens, lakes and plenty of trees and paths. Occasionally there are special exhibits in the original Clark house. I have been there for photo and watercolor shows. There are also concerts as well as special events for the children during various holidays. Clarke is a complete package. It's beautiful and peaceful as well. Nice place to just sit and relax. Thanks to the Town of North Hempstead for maintaining this lovely property that we can enjoy at no charge. There is also a lovely gift shop.. Make sure you stop by on your visit here. It is in a really peaceful area and there isn't much noise from the road. there are benches spread around the park and a bunch of pretty trees. As the name suggests, the park has a big pond and area surrounding it. There aren't really any paths in the park which is a little difficult for when it is muddy. There are also a lot of goose droppings covering essentially the entire park. I guess a path would make up for this but maybe extra pick up is needed. It was like walking through a minefield.
