It served as an elementary school until two new elementary schools were built in Manhasset and it became a park in the late 1980s. It is the site of most major Manhasset public events including Christmas Tree lighting, Memorial Day and 9/11 ceremonies. Weddings take place in the gazebo occasionally. The children's playground is very popular every day. It is in the center of town by Town Hall, the LIRR station, restaurants and shops. Many people sit there to have a cup of coffee, watch the children play, see their neighbors, or watch the world go by.

Beautiful mix of plants and flowers flanking the entryway. Not that big of a garden but still had different areas to see - ponds and marsh areas, rose garden, lots of trees, small bridges etc. along walking paths - some paved, but a lot were pebbly, grassy or had steps so may be limited for those using a walker or wheelchair. He purchased the home and property in 1843 & traveled 3 hrs each way by steamship on the weekends. In 1975 his great-granddaughter donated his home & 7 acres to the county recreation & cultural purposes. The museum closed in 2009 due to lack of funds, however the volunteers of Friends of Cedarmere are currently restoring it. There were 2 small parking lots and a Porto potty. We walked through the beautifully manicured gardens, sat on the porch & appreciated the views. We need to make a reservation to tour the inside of the home.

It is in a really peaceful area and there isn't much noise from the road. there are benches spread around the park and a bunch of pretty trees. As the name suggests, the park has a big pond and area surrounding it. There aren't really any paths in the park which is a little difficult for when it is muddy. There are also a lot of goose droppings covering essentially the entire park. I guess a path would make up for this but maybe extra pick up is needed. It was like walking through a minefield.
