While I have nothing substantial to add -- other than an extra star -- a comparison of facilities prompts me to write an update. With black card membership one can a) bring a companion and b) utilize any Planet Fitness in the country. This works for me living in two states EXCEPT the branches I've been to in Manhattan have a lot to be desired. I'm not keen on going back to any of them. This week I returned to Ardmore. I hadn't been in awhile and it hit me how good this gym is. Machines in working order, well laid-out floor plan, clean, nice locker room -- nothing lacking! I've been going to this location for many years, but am done. They are unable to keep the TVs in good working order (it's been over a month now that they have been without sound on many stations). I use this location on occasion because it's near where I work. It's smaller by far than other PF's but it gets the job done. Cons: - only one Hydromassage bed. - in winter the icy parking lot across a fairly busy street can be concerning. Lose a couple of stars for this, unfortunately. Pros: - The equipment which was recently upgraded will set it apart from the others for at least a year. - the staff are kind, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive - the machines and workout areas are always clean. - Most patrons follow the wipe down after using rule. read more

This is technically my "home gym" yet I find myself visiting the larger locations more frequently(get the black card membership, it's worth it!). Truthfully, what makes Planet Fitness special isn't the quality of the equipment(decent)or the convenient hours(many locations started closing earlier and aren't 24 hours anymore). What makes Planet Fitness special is the wide number of locations. Regardless of where I travel I can conveniently find a gym. In the case of this particular gym, it recently incurred a renovation so it's rather nice inside. However, that's dwarfed by the issue of it being quite small inside. In short, you'll need to choose your time wisely by visiting either late at night or first thing in the morning or you'll find yourself mobbed by fellow gym goers. Get the black card membership, but use this gym location only if your limited on time and don't mind navigating maze of a crowd. read more

Not COVID friendly, not user friendly. Not responsible. A while ago, PF told me they no longer accepted monthly pay by credit card, only bank-debit. Now I know why: it's much harder to contest a bank debit. Before shutting down for the pandemic, PF told me I'd be notified before the reopened. I wasn't. Instead, I happened to see that 1 1/2 montsh were just debited from my account. Now I have no interest in going to an "aerobic" environment, let alone one where people often wear masks below their noses. I called and asked for a refund. They refused. The "best" they could offer was a credit of two months when I resumed a new suspension. I told them I would cancel my membership, at which they offered to refund about 40% of what had been charged. As the owner of a small business, I can appreciate they're being squeezed too. But unlike PF, I don't surprise my clients with charges or expect them to attend an aerobic environment as deaths and new cases surge more every day. Shame on you PF! read more

Simple basic gym with one sole purpose, staying healthy. Nothing out of the ordinary, no insane crazy prices per month. This is what I am looking for with plenty of cardio equipment, TVs everywhere , massage station, showers, locker rooms, plenty of space, also very clean in theses areas. They have a room with a traffic light, its a 30 min workout room. Green means go, you do that until the light goes Red. Once it is red you have a brief moment to relax, or clean down the station if need be and then you start up on green. I like it, it works for me and gotta love the no "grunting" rule for those meat heads. Who wants to hear someone grunting while working out with "Yea one more time, grunt ... grunt ... lets do it" I myself am not one who wants to hear you have an orgasm after you benched a million pounds then you check yourself out in the mirror as you are doing it read more

For the price, an A-OK gym. Now my wife and her wants and needs in a gym are different than mine so she would rate this place higher. I found that they are very heavy on the machines (treadmills, ellipticals, stair steppers, and bikes) Which works for her but as I said our wants are different. No free weights for bench press they have a machine that slides along a bar, it may be "safer" however the tracks on the bar take some of the weight. I found myself being able to rep a weight 8 times I usually can only put up once or twice. I may have been there around peak times thus far but it seems that they are in need or more dumbells. 2 Massage chairs (Black card members only) They also have 1 hydro massage table that can be used again black card only. Nando touched on the 30 min workout room, very cool concept. 4 showers in the men's room (can't speak to the ladies room for obvious reasons) Lockers are available, just remember to bring your own lock, nothing can be stored overnight. They have trainers who can help you meet your goals. These are my early impressions thus far so I will update if anything changes. read more

While I might of not participated in any of Yelp's In It To Thin It programs, it was one of the contributing factors towards my realization that it was about time for me to go back to having a gym membership. But for me the other contributing factor was realizing how simple and reasonable Planet Fitness's membership program made things. Being someone who is far from a gym rat, who has a work schedule that shifts and changes weekly, and leans more towards being a bit of a moonlighter added up to my thinking that there wasn't really a gym that could cater to the overall randomness of my availability. Especially given the crazy price points that most gym memberships add up to. But upon entering this location, seeing that it was open 24/7, and realizing how cheap a membership was, it became a complete and total no brainer for me to join. And although the basic $10 a month membership looked like enough to suffice; I even splurged on the $20 plan so that I could visit the gym locations in Philly and beyond, bring a guest, and hit up the sauna or massage table every now and again for some pampering. From stationary bikes and cardio machines, to plenty of weightlifting stations and cross trainers, to treadmills and random equipment that makes me look like the Wicked Witch of the West riding her broom through a tornado; there's plenty of equipment available to try out. And the various TV and Radio stations that you can tune your machine into while you workout doesn't hurt your regime either. The bathrooms locker spaces are also pretty clean given the hours. While I might not ever be a full fledged gym rat, Planet Fitness is definitely one of those spots that let me do things on my playing field and find the level of exercise and commitment that works best for me to get in the groove. read more

This gym is awesome! I can't believe how cheap the membership is! Its so convenient because the gym is open 24 hours a day and the parking lot is huge and free. The staff are friendly and helpful and the place seems in great shape (no dirty or broken machines). They also give you lots of free purple pens. yippie! Included on the black card, you can have 1 guest per day, use the tanning booths, the red light therapy, and the massage chairs. Included on the regular membership ($10/ mo) and the black card ($20/ mo), is 24 hours access to the gym of ellipticals, treadmills, bikes, weight machines, and fitness classes. Some things to take into consideration is that the gym is on the second floor, so you have to climb a set of stairs to get to your workout. And you cannot park directly in front of the gym, but there is a large designated parking lot across the street for planet fitness people. just fyi, there is a security guard patrolling the area, ready to give out parking tickets to planet fitness people who try to park closer. Don't forget to bring a lock for your stuff to put in the locker room and a towel if you want to shower there... its a basic gym, but I like it because its cheap and I like working out with other people... its very motivating. Also, for those of you who don't like a busy gym, there is a spreadsheet at the front desk which maps out the peak and quiet hours. Basically 1-3pm and midnight- 5am are virtually empty and the peak hours are from 4-10pm. But even during peak hours the gym seems about at 40% capacity... it doesn't feel overly busy or anything. read more

A pretty good, no frills gym that's inexpensive, massive enough to handle the Ardmore/Haverford crowd, and goes out of it's way to attract non-gym people. I really hate going to the gym. It's always crowded during the times I have to go after work, you have to wait for machines, and there's always that one person who's just a little to into working out. But after changing jobs and getting a gym allowance from my employer, I pulled the trigger on Planet Fitness. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by how anti-gym Planet Fitness is, in that it actively discourages "lunks" from coming inside. It's an introvert's gym, and I appreciate that immensely as I prefer to suffer in solitude. The gym is located on the second floor of the mall and is massive - I never had a problem getting a machine, even during peak hours. And the $10 a month price tag ($30 annual fee, and there's a start-up fee that will probably drop as they run promotions pretty regularly) is perfect for me. In sum, it's a basic gym for people who hate the gym, with limited select classes, lots of machines, and inexpensive. You can't ask for anything better. read more

I'm primarily here for the weight room. It's a decent weight room, although there is only ONE set of 12's and 7.5's and people are always removing them from the room. Seems fairly clean. The complex itself is generally fine and adequate. There is an aggressively obnoxious personal trainer there. Black, bald and bearded, about 30 something years old. He enjoys lording his slight authority over anyone he can possibly influence. Petty and self loathing, you can tell he is not comfortable with his lot and life and needs to take it out on whatever white people he can. Will aggressively stare at you while you are using the equipment and go out of his way to be unhelpful when asked direct questions at the front desk. Feels like a racist to me. I go out of my way to not interact with the asshole, you should too. Always has headphones on. I've seen others, mostly older white people ask for help with equipment usage or gym rules and regulations. He usually treats them with nonchalant disdain. Ok you have to take this place for what it is. A no frills, no classes, beginner gym for those who are just getting started or are self motivated. I'm an unabashed fitness junkie and am here usually six days a week. There are dozens of treadmills, bikes, and elliptical machines as well as a large free weight and machine weight area. The machines are in good shape and are all Life Fitness, the best maker imho. There is also a dedicated 30min circuit area as well as an ab area. Negatives? Maybe, depending on what you're looking for. This is not a pickup or exhibition gym, and many of the members are newbies. Also, if you are into classes...you're outta luck, as there are none. What you DO get is a well equipped, modern gym with all the stuff you need...for $10 a month. Can't beat it. read more

The gym would be decent if not for their terrible and error prone cancellation policy. I have sent two letters over the course of a year as stated on the website to cancel and they have not cancelled. Today when I called, they denied getting the letters, claimed that the letters are *required* to be certified, and that I would have to send a third letter. This is not true according to their website. The exact verbiage on the website is "preferably" certified. "Preferably" is not at all "required" and if the policy required certified mail then the website is misleading. When I challenged the assertion of certified mail being a requirement on the phone the employee just kept interrupting me and repeating themselves with, "Sir, you have to send certified mail." After several interruptions I said, "Don't 'sir' me!" and they hung up on me. So the unofficial policy seems to be deny receiving letters, deceive the customer with "requirements" that don't match up from one source to the next, stonewall complaints with interruptions, and then when all else fails, hang up on them. Despite 4 phone conversations and two letters they are still billing me. I would go there in person, but I moved to California and cannot speak to them in person. read more

I've been a member of Philadelphia Sports Club in Ardmore for a few years now but decided to get a Planet Fitness membership as well since they are 24 hrs during the week and it's so cheap. A lot of my friends have Planet Fitness memberships too so I get to work out with them when I go there. Planet Fitness is to Philadelphia Sports Club what a cup of coffee is to a grande skinny half-caf caramel macchiato. At Planet Fitness you get machines. That's it. If you upgrade to the black membership, you can use one of their two (2?!) massage chairs or carcinogenic tanning booths. Because of the low cost, you get a motley group of people that join (students, crazy people, moms, crazy people...). There are a bunch of TVs at the front of the non-description 2nd flr old office space that are always on sports channels (no HGTV here). My main complaint has to be the staff. They obviously don't care about their job and never acknowledge your presence. I don't know about you but I would much rather pay a little more and go to Philadelphia Sports Club in Ardmore which is gorgeous (located in an old movie theater), has a steamroom, yoga classes, kickboxing, spinning, tvs on most machines and super friendly, helpful staff. I can also use the PSC Radnor pool at non-peak hours which is great. It goes to show you get what you pay for. I will defiantly keep my PSC membership. Mt PF membership? Not so much. read more

For ten dollars a month you can work out in a gym filled with snot and disease, puddles of sweat, and the 600 pound woman in front of you walking at 0.2 mph on the treadmill to really get you motivated. This is where gyms and dreams go to die. It's unsanitary, baffling, and appalling how disgusting the gym is. The front desk people change every week and are on their cell phones 90 percent of the time texting people. The majority are rude. The bathroom is sick. Disgusting! Save your ten beans. read more

Incompetent staff, unsanitary, and poor customer service. I was a regular at this gym until I started noticing unsanitary equipment and other members not taking responsibility in wiping down equipment after use. As a national gym, I would expect the staff to take ownership and routinely wipe down equipment. I cant speak on behalf of ladies, but the mens lockeroom is gross. Staff just roam around and crack jokes with each other. They're just there to clock in, clock out, and get paid. Canceling my membership was the most annoying part of my entire experience. No Customer Service # and the only way to cancel is by going to the gym in person or sending a letter via certified mail. I guess it was my own mistake for expecting more out of a membership that only cost me .70 a day. Kudos to you Planet Fitness on renting space, throwing fitness equipment in there with some staff and getting away with calling it a legitimate business franchise. read more

After a few months of struggling to get to my free university gym before it closed, I officially decided to drink the kool-aid and get a PF membership. I must say, it has definitely exceeded my expectations. The 24/7 access is basically what convinced me in the first place. As someone who goes very late at night (usually after 11PM), I have never dealt with crowding or a lack of machines. In fact, there's never more than a small handful of people around. The amenities are pretty basic, but they fit most people's needs. Lots of cardio machines and equipment for toning--if you're looking to "lift" this is not the place for you. You also have unlimited access to tanning beds, massage chairs, and infrared enhancement with the higher level membership, as well as a discount on sports beverages. I have not yet tried the complimentary classes (arms, legs, abs, etc.) but they seem fun. The staff is sort of hit or miss. Some employees are very friendly and attentive, others take awhile to acknowledge you, even if you walk right up to the counter. This can be annoying if you're in a hurry. Overall, this gym is great. It's clean, fits my needs, is close to my home, and is open all the time. And who doesn't like Pizza Monday and Bagel Tuesday? You'd have to lack a soul. read more

There's a ton of cardio machines...ellipticals, cross-trainers, tredmills, and those two types of stationary bikes that I don't really care to know much more about.There's half a ton of weight machines and a thirty minute circuit area. The showers are clean. The bathrooms are clean. The locker room is clean. It's big. It's spacious. There are lots of big screen TVs to keep you entertained. Alright...well I think it is only fair to rereview this place since I have been going for 6 months now. It is what it is. A cheap gym that lets you do as you wish. They have every machine available and free weights too. They have a 30 minute circuit training system if you don't have much time. I never did it, but it is good to know it is there. The bathroom is always clean despite my first visit. The staff is pretty friendly. The big ceiling fans help keep me cool when I am running on the treadmills. Really I am happy this place exists in my unemployed stage of life right now. If I can't afford anything else, I can at least take my booty to the gym. I also like that their cardio equipment has an ipod hookup. If my little guy is running low on battery, I do a quick run and then I have enough juice to go do some weights. My only request is that they put a clock somewhere closer to the weights. They have a ginormous one at the other end, but it is kinda a hike to get to it when I am in my zone and you can't see it because of the ceiling. read more

If you want a basic gym without all the bells and whistles, Planet Fitness is the place. This one just opened up in Ardmore and what better way to keep in shape in the winter than joining for only $10.00 a month (with an initiation fee and annual fee). Seems like a pretty reasonable price to keep yourself in tip-top shape. (For $20/month, you get some extra services such as tanning, massage chairs and the ability to frequent other PF in the area). The staff is courteous and always willing to answer any questions or show you how to work the machines. Planet Fitness is open 24 hours M-Th and on Friday until 9pm and 7am-7pm on Saturday and Sunday. So if you feel like doing some cardio at 3 in the morning on Wednesday, they will be there waiting for you. I've been at this particular gym at various times during the day and evening and it never seems packed. There are always machines available. There are several cardio machines (treadmills, bikes, elliptical) and also some weight machines. They also have free weights and an ab/yoga section. All in all, it suits my needs. It is cheap and a good place to go if you want to really work out. My only issue is that some of the music/tv input devices often do not work properly The place could be cleaner at times: for example, I saw the same candy in the stairs that was there yesterday. We use to be able to get two coins for the massage chairs per visit but now we can only get one even though nobody is using them most of the time and the sign states unlimited massage chair use, hence the three stars. read more

I feel like there are a ton of cardio machines available, and the staff is very friendly. The area is really nice as well. Down side, the parking situation is not so great. The parking right in front of the club is limited and meant for anyone making a quick trip into one of the other shops. You need to park across the street and basically try not to get hit by oncoming traffic. read more

If you want small court sports (racketball, basketball, etc.) or a swimming pool, the YMCA would be your choice in our area but if you don't have time every day or are not a daily swimmer, why pay for what you are not using? For college students this place is for you. Im 22 and i have the $20 a month membership. This place has lots of equipment. You can get a full workout in, and its never over crowded. Better than a lot of the gyms I've been to and the price is right. plenty of Tv's so you can have something to focus on while you run. If you are on a budget I would recommend this place. I used to be a member at the JCC, but they only cater to the needs of families and Seniors. This place caters to all. So give it a try for a couple months and see how you like it. P.S. Solid gym in Ardmore that has a very tough price to beat. I think my start-up was around $40-$60 then it was $10/month for 3 months then $20/month after that. This is very good compared to LA Fitness' outrageous start-up and their $40/month fees. This is a pretty big gym with a lot of cardio machines and weight machines. Not a ton of free weights and the stretching/ab area is pretty small. Staff is friendly and keeps the locker room clean. I feel like the "circuit area" is a waste of space, I belonged here 8 months and I rarely saw people in there. Overall: Solid gym with an excellent price attached. read more

I joined this gym because it is about 2 minutes from my apartment and it is cheap. The business model for planet fitness makes sense. No frills, you get exactly what you pay for. I use it mostly for the treadmills and the free weights. I have never had a really bad experience here, but it can get very crowded. I am sure that is the same with any gym, but I am not crazy about the set up. The area where the mats/ab machines/exerise balls are is really just too small, and it is the only designated space in the gym where you can do any kind of mat work or stretching. read more

I have been a member of PF for years now. It is good for basic workouts and is clean, though not very welcoming. Lately, though, I've gotten discouraged because the aerobic equipment and the audio hookups to the TV don't work. If maybe one or 2 don't work big deal. Yesterday in a row of about 8 elliptical machines only 2 had TV hookups. One of the 8 ARCs has been out of service for weeks. The other day a tech was working on it and the next day it was still not working. Come on, guys, you can do better than this! read more

I use this gym all the time, like nearly every day. Pros: clean gym, friendly staff. Has all the basic machines and weights that I need. Cons: RIDICULOUSLY HOT in the summer. I am not even sure if they have air conditioning, but you can see the temperature on the thermostats throughout the gym at peak times is literally 78 or higher. There are giant fans on the ceiling, but when you are doing cardio it is near impossible to work out in these conditions. And baseline I am always freezing and never complain about heat -- that just speaks to how hot this place gets. And I have overheard many people with the same complaint. I am not sure if its to save $$ on air conditioning, but come on, how are PF's clients supposed to work out in a sauna. Addendum: a few days ago, after I posted my review, I did see the manager walking around the gym with an AC serviceman. I am glad they take their clients' concerns seriously. I hope that the AC problem is fixed bc I do like this gym, but the heat is intolerable during a workout. read more

I was here at 4:30am and the doors were closed. I along with a small group of people waited at the door for someone to open it to no avail. Apparently the employee never came to relieve the employee before and they just decided to lock the doors. The only real perk of PF is that it's 24 hours-- if they can't open when they say they will then it's just better to join another gym. read more

However, if you just like to work out, and you don't need many of the bells and whistles of the higher priced gyms (can you say "Overpriced Juice Bar"?), and you like to save a few bucks each month, Planet Fitness is for you. The place is well-lit, clean and has all of the basics that you need to get in a good workout without having to impress anyone. The clientele is a bit eclectic, but hey, that's life, isn't it? The workers here seem to individually choose what attires are ok and what are not. Earlier this week I wore some comfy boot sneakers; I brought backups ( I know boots aren't typically allowed ) in case they weren't ok. The pf employee said they were fine and I used them twice this week. Today, some bald employee turns me away. I told him one of his Coworkers approved them. Response was a chilly: "you need to change them." As a customer I feel an exception should have been made especially if your employee misinformed me.
