I am going to select another PF to be my primary. The one on Broadway has been based on convenience, but nothing has improved in my 7 months of membership here. The first manager I encountered (Isaac? Chris? Don't remember his name; this is how forgettable he was.) called me after I completed a random survey after my first couple of months and had the nerve to ask me to change my score to "help him out." He and I discussed opportunities for improvement, as I have been in gyms as a member, an employee, and a manager for over 35 years. I received the stock response of promising to enact changes, but nothing happened. The new manager and I relatively recently discussed the same issues-weights being left on equipment, gym bags in the workout space, and the morning staff not circulating to ensure that rules are being followed. The two young women who comprise the morning staff are too busy on their phones and chatting (often with the new manager) to be effective. At the very least, if they (or the manager, who also doesn't emerge from behind the desk much at all) were the ones to go behind the members who leave plates on equipment and were responsible for returning them to the correct spot, I imagine they would soon get tired of this and decide to hold people accountable. This is hard to do from behind the desk and on a phone. Making a "round" every 15 minutes goes a long way. My final straw was today. Most of the paper towel dispensers were empty. I confirmed with the staff that there was no more in supply. I recommended that they put a note on each dispenser, as many of us were going from one to another trying to find a full one. Again, stock answer of "sure!" but no action. I simply don't know what they do, but they have much room for improvement. In sum, I give up. While I accept that sometimes a person gets what he pays for, I do insist on quality basics when it comes to a gym. For those considering this location, proceed with caution. read more

This is my home Planet Fitness and comparatively the smallest of any other locations I've visited. I wish they were truly 24/7; they are in a neighborhood that would support it and appreciate it. Closing at 7pm on weekends seems early. Most of the resistance machines are part of the Life Fitness Axiom Series. Good, basic machines which are mostly in decent condition, given their constant use at this busy place. So far, I haven't noticed anyone maxing out the weight stacks, so reports that PF reduces weights to avoid bodybuilders doesn't seem true; Planet Fitness just doesn't stock the strength training equipment bodybuilders need. There are tons of treadmills, ellipticals, a couple climbers, bikes, and I think they have a decent amount of Arc trainers. They have the usual equipment every other gym has: chest press, two types of bicep curls, pulldown, pec fly/rear delt, row, shoulder press, triceps extension & press, abdominal, torso rotation, back extension, arc leg press, calf extension, glute, abductor & adductor, seated & lying leg curl, leg extension, and a bunch of other equipment like a Captain's Chair and a couple good multi-jungles with a variety of cable crossovers and all sorts of belts, chains, ropes, balls, bells, bars, and pulley attachments. I can't tell if their few bands are acceleration elastic cords or just tubes. It'd be nice if they had a full set of tube bands since so many exercise books & videos refer to those and not the bungee-style cords. They come up short in not having some basics: there's no rowing machine, no lateral raise (Life Fitness's Axiom series doesn't offer it), no advanced abdominal, and no glute bridge. Other locations have a SciFit Seated Upper Body (hand crank), why not this location? It's a great machine for people going through rotator cuff injury rehab and can offer everyone a dang good bicep workout. There are very few Hammer Strength plate-loaded machines. They have a nice linear leg press and a couple other machines, but that's it. Don't get fancy and ask them if they have a Tibia Dorsi flexion or kneeling leg curl. If you want those machines, walk a couple blocks to Quads--they have everything. This location doesn't have suppression platforms (does any location?), so again--go to Quads or FFC to do your 600 lb. deadlifts. :) The locker rooms are a sore point, and the worst of any PF location I've been to. I know this is not Equinox or Midtown, but they need new lockers--at least in the Men's. Most of them have rust, and some have broken or twisted metal near the handles so you can't use a lock (I know it's expensive to replace lockers, but they're just going to get worse). There's also just one toilet (someone always seems to be using it, and not always for what it's intended). And who designed the shower area? The showers have curtains, but the changing rooms are 10 feet away. Luckily, so far no environmental issues at this location. On super hot days, the AC has been cranked up, and the ventilation is excellent. When I walk into another PF location and see those big-azz ceiling fans, I know something probably isn't going to be right with their temp/ventilation control. The front desk staff at most PF locations are there to watch the entrance and do basic cleaning around the gym. It's doubtful any of them know how to use the equipment, so don't ask. They're very polite and welcoming, though. There's something called PE@PF which I need to look into, but I don't believe PF locations have personal trainers. The crowd is mixed...very mixed. There are some real characters at night, but overall, everyone's pleasant and just does their own workout. You won't be judged here for what you wear, your body type, or have client-chasing trainers walking around offering to show you "proper form." PF might call their locations "clubs" but they're really just basic gyms (and that's ok). Visit during the daytime and ask for a tour. The "Spa" area is fun--tanning beds, two types of hydrotherapy massage tables, and something they call, "Total Body Enhancement," which is a red light therapy chamber. The two membership level fees are fine for what they're offering, though this location lacks a few things other locations provide like classes and slightly more equipment. And maybe rust-free lockers. read more

All right, I'm not going to give this place the best review. Maybe I am spoiled by other Planet Fitness locations. I might have gone to many different gyms that had lots of room to spread out in. Unfortunately this place is not the one. Everything is very close together with low ceilings and it is definitely an urban gym. Sometimes you can't get away from that though in one of the largest cities in the country. Everything was pretty well organized but it is very tight in there. If you're wanting to use weight machines, you're going to be pretty tight and people walking by might need to watch out so they don't get hit. A lot of the cardio machines are also very tight and bunched together. The locker rooms are also pretty small and unfortunately there was only one toilet stall in the men's locker room and the guy in there never came out. read more

I've been a huge fan of this facility since I joined 4 years ago but it feels to me like they're buried in maintenance issues and can't seem to get ahead. Leaky pipes in the locker room mean there's sometimes standing water on the floor. Wall tiles are in disrepair and are being held in place with duct tape. Paper towel dispensers are not being refreshed frequently enough, and in particular, I'd expect if I were there within the first two hours of the facility opening, that everything would be pristine or at least refreshed for the start of the workday/club opening. It's cold and flu season, people want to wipe down filthy equipment, and when supplies run out it's impossible to do this. I don't know why there's suddenly such a lack of investment or lack of attention to the facility. Depending on the time of day, the staff can either be SUPER friendly , engaging, and very visibly walking the floor to troubleshoot and clean up, or just sitting bored behind the front desk without so much as a smile. Equipment was just updated, which is a really nice touch. You get what you pay for, and I fully knew this was a budget gym when I signed up years ago--- but I've just seen a bit of a decline in anyone caring about what the guest experience is like. read more

My complaint is that the club only seems interested in signing up new members and not maintaining the equipment. The ONLY pec deck machine broke down over a month ago and still has not been repaired. If it is taking this long to repair it, it should be replaced. But that gets back to my initial point that the gym only cares about signing up new members and not maintaining the equipment. One of the Universal machines recently broke down. I have no confidence that it will be repaired any time soon. read more

This location is fine - it has nice bathrooms and a friendly staff that make sure to keep the place clean. Plenty of treadmills and bikes for cardio, but simply not a good set-up for free weights. As someone who tends to use the machines for weight-training, this doesn't really bother me but has prompted my fiancé to look elsewhere for his fitness needs. There's also no good spots to place personal items without having to store them in the lockers. You can't really beat $10/month with no commitment though, so I'll keep going for now. read more

Overall, a really good location. Even when its busy, its not too hard to get a workout done. The staff is really nice and facilities generally appear fairly clean. Two issues. Firstly, the paper towels to wipe down machines are out often. And maybe the biggest issue, it closes at 7pm on Sat and Sun for some reason. Never been to a gym that closes that early. This is my favorite PF I've ever gone to. All the staff is always friendly and greets me and while that's small, it means more than they know I'm sure! The facility is well maintained and cleaned. I have found that often times one of the stair master machines tends to be not working properly which can be annoying, but isn't a big deal. I use the tanning beds and massage beds often which has become a great way to relax after my workouts. Solid gym and outstanding value for the price. read more

Old, outdated, small and just not great. Probably one of the worst planet fitnesses I've been to.

Kelsey the General Manager has no oversight by corporate apparently. Rude as can be, steals people's money during a pandemic, and ALWAYS reverts to "the contract" even if she or her employees flat out lie. Also, having to come in to the gym to cancel is flat out tone deaf. But, it reconfirmed my thought that people were not social distancing, masks were sometimes covering people working out faces. Doesn't seem safe at all. Clearly Kelsey is in the business of stealing money and does not care at all. I'd recommend never signing up for PlanetFitness. They get rich by people not coming and overlooking the $10/month, along with making it very tough to leave. PS: If you think corporate will even answer your calls, think again. This is a classless organization and seems like the rest of the people writing reviews have had the same issues with PF and Kelsey specifically, who's way worse than PF could ever imagine. read more

Finally have WiFi. The gym itself is nice, and clean and well maintained. The equipment selection is also good, and the place is big enough to handle the New Year's resolution over population that often occurs in January. Certainly not fancy as other gyms in the area - you won't find towel service or a juice bar, but what you will find is a solid gym for a great price. But yes, that lack of one star is for the almost year delay on the WiFi...I see you Planet Fitness, and will be watching. read more

I been to a lot of PF all over the city and this one is really tight. They did what they could with the space but super crammed. The weight room section - no social distancing was happening at all. I get it - it is peak time but no rules were enforced but get this - me and a friend of mine got a treadmill and I used one of the ones that (technically shouldn't use however, the others were taken and me and my friend were together) but the rules got enforced on us however just in the weight room section people were crammed upon each other and maskless. The rules doesn't make sense. (and yes, I am fully vaccinated as well so I understand the new CDC guidelines however, if her excuse was social distancing, then she was picking and choosing who to enforce this rule upon - that is my issue when clearly no social distancing was being practiced 20 steps from me). Parking lot was cool - warning: its small but doesn't seem like it is a problem since I was able to get a spot in the lot. But, for sure, I think I'd rather go to Logan Square or Washington Square location than this one again. Not only are staff members super chill and helpful - they literally try to get to know their customers from day one and build their relationships from there. In addition, the other gym locations are much bigger and better organized/arranged. I'm glad I checked out Yelp before I decided to visit this location as a warning as to what to expect and yep - it is true about what has been said about staff. read more

I don't expect broken equipment to be fixed immediately but one of the things that lowers my opinion of this place is that we have been experiencing COVID since March 2020 - the gym closed and reopened summer/fall - many of the paper towel dispensers to wipe down equipment have been broken since they have reopened. I the idea of being "cleansiderate" but not fixing your paper towel dispensers so folks can wipe down equipment is just ridiculously hypocritical. Save money and equipment - just put in pre-moistened wipes where the paper towels were and problem solved. Update Just fix the broken paper towel dispensers - LOL - if customer provides a clear and concrete reason for why they rated a business the way they did - the safest thing is to just address it. Update Now they noticed all the excess liquid from the spaying is causing the equipment to malfunction - again - another reason premoistened wipes are an amazing amenity. read more

Beware! This location charged me while I was sick, even after promising to freeze my account. Supervisor Kelsey called me a liar when I called to inquire about a refund. So during COVID, this location has decided to: charge people who can't safely come in, even when saying they won't, and then calling them liars when they ask for a refund. Cheap memberships and SOME of the staff are friendly but: 1)this branch closes way too early on Fridays (9 pm), Saturdays and Sundays (7 pm); 2)air exchange and circulation is poor so the place smells (exercise area and locker rooms); the pipes burst several days ago and the place is still out of commission with no indication of when they are reopening. read more

Planet Fitness is the McDonalds of gyms; it's tacky and unglamorous, but it gets the job done at a low price. Things take a long time to get fixed when broken (the sole waterfountain, some equipment), and I wish they had towels, but for $10/month, you get what you pay for. (There's also a $39 yearly fee in addition to $10/month, which is conveniently omitted in the advertising) I'm certainly no body builder, so I just need the basic equipment, and this place has what I need at a good price. I haven't had much interactions with the staff, so I can't say anything about customer service. read more

I began attending this gym after the mask mandate went back into effect, even though I was reluctant to do so. That worry went away after I saw the cleanliness of the gym, and how serious the employees take the COIVD guidelines. But, it was not until today that I decided to write a review: While at the gym this evening I witnessed multiple staff discussing the mask mandate with the disgruntled gym-goer who refused to wear a mask. Not only was the person spreading misinformation, without a mask on, but they were so hostile towards the staff that I actually left. I genuinely felt unsafe for my safety; not only because the individual wasn't wearing a mask, but also he was very close to me actively using the stair-stepper while continuing to escalate in anger. Also, this person's behavior just ruined my workout (I could hear him over my music). The patience and kindness of the staff members was something to be admired. I've never witnessed this type of behavior at this gym. But now that I have, I know that the staff will try effortlessly and respectfully to keep us all safe. If you want to join a gym, join this one. It really does feel like a community. And above all else, a safe place. -And whoever those workers are should get a raise because I would not have met this gentleman with such poise and grace as they did. read more

Always great bang for your buck with PF. I've been going to this location since 2019 and it is adequately stocked with gym equipment to service the users. Maybe they could get another stair stepper or two but I avoid cardio anyway. The location is cleanly kept and they were very accommodating throughout this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I think the "black" membership is even better because you can use any location in the US. read more

I was in the area and decided to stop by this Planet fitness. they have parking right next to it and it was free. As I walked in the lady at the front desk greeted me and I checked in. I asked her were the lockers were and she was nice to point me to the right direction. The place is clean and has all the machines for a good workout. Not a lot of free weights but enough for my workout since I was going from running to using the weights and other equipment. Plenty of treadmills, bicycles, the 30 minute workout space and another space to stretch out. When i was done went to take a shower and the locker room has plenty of space, as for the showers I would have liked they have doors instead of curtains but it worked. I did not like that the water fluctuates, was hot then cold then hot again and I had to play around with the water to maintain it to the right temperature. After the workout I got a chance to use the massage chair and I was on my way. Overall I liked the place. just fix the shower valves read more

Here's my update after one year. Customer service: Forget it. You're cattle. When it gets crowded, there are times when no lockers are available at all. New signage suggests you can't leave your coat on the workout floor- understandable. If you think the front desk might hold on to your coat when the lockers are all full, forget it. But again, at $10 or $20 a month, it's still worth it. Just don't expect the East Bank Club. read more

From day one staff has been impressively out going, helpful and act like they care about the gym/customers. Gym is very clean and I'm always greeted with positive friendly energy...I'm dealing with back/hip and fibromyalgia so it's a challenge for me to get to the gym. Its nice to be in an environment where the staff seem happy...unlike the California location. I go to the California location because you guys close early on the weekends and physically sometimes I just cant make it in time. It's not the same experience at all, I'm very grateful for my planet fitness black membership...and the Broadway location. Wish owners of California would take some pointers from you guys...because the customers deserve that experience at each planet fitness. read more

Great gym for those on a budget. Lots of machines to choose from and everything is clean. They offer class ish types things showing you the equipment, but i wish they offered more classes to workout. Love the app though. Very friendly staff also are able to show you around and explain the different memberships. My favorite thing is the 30 minute room. There you can find a green and red light that can time you for cardio and different machines. read more

I've been working out here for a month and love it. Yes the equipment is limited compared to expensive gyms, but what they have here is more than adequate. Everyone who works here is super nice including the guys who work the overnight shift and especially Savana (sp)?She makes an effort to remember my name every time I come in. She also easily completed my sign up and gave me a tour of the gym. Since this is in the middle of Lakeview, it does get busy at times. I've learned the best times to workout to avoid the crowd, so that isn't a problem for me. When you sign up, go for the $20/mth plan. The tanning beds are new and work great. Haven't tried the massage chairs yet. Lost 17 pounds working out here last month! read more

Obviously Planet Fitness is a chain fitness center and each one is about the same as the next, but this new facility is really great. There is always plenty of staff and I never have to wait to scan in or sign up for tanning, and they're always very friendly and ready to answer questions. Facilities wise- this place is amazingly clean. Maybe it hasn't been "broken in" long enough to have that sweaty gym smell, but I'm definitely not complaining I love that this one so close to my place has tons of machines as well as the PF 360 machine because the location in Streeterville does not. It seems like they typically get busiest around 630/7 but I never have to wait to use anything or feel like it's overcrowded. read more

I had a membership back home in Kansas City and was actually sad that there wasn't one near me. So glad that they opened up one in lakeview! The staff is always super nice, layout is functional, no problems with the equipment, and it is CLEAN! I went to planet fitness before and I never saw anyone wipe down equipment. Great gym for the price! It's actually bigger than I expected. I got the black card just because it's month to month and I can go to any location and always bring a guest. This location is also convenient because it's really close to me. Not far from the Addison stop on the Red line either. The staff here is so helpful and called me when an item was returned that my guest had lost. They kept it safe for me until I could come retrieve it! read more

Good luck cancelling your membership. They will have you go through hoops just to cancel. It really lowers this companies credibility.

They make it almost impossible to cancel your membership by having to jump through multiple hoops and visit IN PERSON to cancel, despite the inherent risks. Try to contact them electronically and you go around in circles and can't send them any message I'm the end. You call and are told you have to come to the location to cancel.I had planned to return to the gym once it is safe, but it will not be here because of their poor customer service and deceptive billing practices. read more
