I went here ALL the time when I lived in West Town. I just moved and i miss it a lot! It was a tight knit fitness community and some of the best boxing classes with Arturo. The front desk had the kindest folks and there was always room to fit your workout in as well as many many weights. My only gripe was sometimes a machine would break down snd it would take a while to get fixed and the place was dirty since it was an older building. It almost adds to the intense atmosphere honestly! There is a lot of gym courtesy practiced here and I learned a lot from the kind folks that worked out there too. Hands down the worst gym I've been to in my entire life: There is junk everywhere, it's extremely dirty, half the equipment is broken or 1,000 years old. I'm not joking when I say this: I was worried I would permanently injure myself using the leg press as it looks like it's from WW2 and has duct tape all over it to cover up the holes in the vinyl. The website looks amazing, but the gym has 0 resemblance to it. The "weight lifting" part of the gym doesn't have enough equipment for a proper workout. The cable machine is not set up...it's pushed into the corner with a bunch of other half assembled old equipment. They charge you $200 up front, $50 for a basic membership, and $100 for a membership that includes classes. I have no clue how this gym has any members because it's literally is the worst gym I've ever been to in my life. Supposedly they have plans to revamp it so it's not such a flaming hot mess...if they do, I'd be more than happy to update this review...but for now, I couldn't justify spending any amount of money to work out here - which sucks because I live less than 5 minutes away by foot. Please make this a decent, worthwhile gym...your gym is so bad I'm choosing to drive 15 minutes instead of walk 4 to go to get an actual workout with decent equipment. read more

Went here today for a ClassPass and my mind was legitimately blown. Guy at front desk first mentioned he had no idea they participated in ClassPass, cool , no biggie. He ushers me in and amid me asking about the upcoming class he just fields someone else's question and walks away leaving me with no idea what's going on. Honestly, not a problem. WHAT really blew my mind was that there was probably thirty people in the gym - lifting weights and boxing ...all of which had no mask of any sort on. The staff at first didn't have any mask covering their face but did muster the effort to pull it up over their mouth during our very brief interaction. This place is NOT necessarily a "big" place and airflow doesn't look like it's all that fresh. I'm by no means a covid fanatic (hence I'm there to workout during the midst of a pandemic...) but I had to nope the hell out of there and go home-plug some hand sanitizer into my pressure washer, and rinse off on my deck after being in this place. I still feel like it wasn't enough. We're about to have to go back into lockdown and it's simply because of places like this. My normal gym has strict rules and everyone wears masks the entire time, yeah it sucks...but we gotta do it. I had been looking for a good boxing gym since mine shut down since covid. This one actually looked like it had some good qualities...aside for the direct lack of regard for safety and everyone's well being. Now I'm out 5 ClassPass credits and 8 gallons of hand sanitizer. Great gym. I have been a member for almost 2 years. All I do is lift weights and they have so many free power racks and barbells. Very chill vibe. The place is never crowded and the staff are friendly. The one (somewhat major) issue is the place is never clean. There is so much dust, chalk, and other trash throughout the gym. The bathrooms are all unfinished and there are half-done construction projects where you can see open electrical boxes and wires. The women's bathroom has only one working stall out of three. The staff hasn't replaced the soap or paper towels in months despite many requests. Please please please just have your staff pay more attention to the cleanliness and upkeep of the place. And please just finish your construction work. Why are there vacuums and a bucket of tools in 3 of the showers? Why hasn't that changed in a year? Why is the basement so cold in the winter? Despite my gripes, I recommend this place for somebody who works out and isn't looking for an "experience". It's gritty but utilitarian. If you are picky and care about the little details, you may want to look at the many "globo-gym" places throughout the city. read more

All I want to do is lift weights. And anyone who lifts knows that at most gyms barbells and squat racks are a scarcity at most gyms. Not at Reach, though. I get in. I got to an open squat rack. I do my routine. I get stronger. I leave. No more waiting 45 minutes for an open squat rack. My workout routine has gone from an hour and 50 minutes to an hour. And yes, they have plenty of cardio equipment as well. Including a couple types of machines I've never seen before. For now, at it's core Reach is a boxing gym. And that aesthetic is pleasing to me. THIS IS THE DIRTIEST GYM I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gyms are a prime place to catch bacterial infections. THERE IS NO EXCUSE to not have industrial cleaning supplies. Reach Beyond Fitness is the GRIMIEST gym I have EVER been to in my entire life. The gym is coated in dirt. They do not leave out cleaning supplies to wipe down equipment.When I asked about this they said " no one would do it anyways". I would rather spend 200$ a month to know I was not at risk for a staff infection. I would never stay at a gym where I was afraid to get on the floor. Charlie the sales manager is super condescending and rude. When I mentioned how dirty it was he made excuses PLACING the BLAME on me for WEARING CLOTHING I LIKED!!!!!. HE is soooo unprofessional for a 100$ a month gym membership with ZERO amenities. THEY LIED about cleaning when asked and said they mop every night. When I took a 6am boot camp class the next day I had to WASH MY HANDS HALF WAY THROUGH BECAUSE THEY WERE COVERED IN BLACK DIRT FROM THE FLOOR AND EQUIPMENT. I should not have been this dirty from a 6 am class if they really cleaned as well as they said. They keep the mops right by the drinking fountain which is in a room that is so dirty I am sure it is a health code violation. This is not a joke. I will post photos I took in my Yelp review. The mops were sitting in filth that they then mop right back onto the gym floor. They do not have a cleaning staff and were unsympathetic to my complaints. This is a small business. I totally get it. I joined fully aware that it was not an aesthetically pleasing venue but the treatment I received was unacceptable. I would never tell my friends to go here. It is totally sad because the other members of the staff are amazing and so are the classes. But Charlie and the discus ting manner the gym is kept in are just to much to continue on with. read more

SOooo excited about this place! Ive worked out with my trainer for years and she just moved over here (Sari Weiss personal training) Its Beautiful and has a hardcore gym feel all at the same time! Ive always wants to do more crossfit-style training but like a variety and cant commit to just one gym- So this is the answer! This gym is a family. A bizarre family. I was looking for a break from the pumping iron scene last summer, which i'd done for like 8 years straight... And I walked in here on the recommedation of my roommate. This place is great. Gigantic tractor tires, huge hammers, heavy bags, speed bags, weight vests, sleds, kegs for throwing... this places has everything ELSE you never thought of. I moved to chicago in September and looked around at a lot of gyms. Reach had the friendliest staff (who will welcome you by name almost every visit!) and great amenities. They have been adding gear, classes, and coaches every month since I joined and it has been a great experience. I have been taking boxing classes since mid September and feel like I am in far better shape than I used to be. Coach Efrain knows how to push us to the limit while still being encouraging and positive. There is always plenty of room and equipment to lift or hit bags and they are adding new equipment all the time. When I first was looking to move to Chicago - a boxing gym was one of the primary requirements I had followed by location and so forth. Over the last 2 years or so this gym has drastically improved with full changing rooms, lockers, a place to flip tires and so much more! At the same time this gym is perfect for women and men. Plenty of classes where it's a mixture of both. To add on - a lot of legitimate boxers come here to train and it's fun to see what you could be one day. The owner and staff are really nice to everyone and coming here feels like everyone after time knows your name. Coming here is like joining a new family that all support you. They also have a lot of trainers available if you want a one on one but at the same time those trainers have no problem to just give you a couple tips here and there. They are looking to enhance the gym even more. The downstairs is fantastic as well - so much room and at feels often like you have the space all to yourself! They are pushing for more cross fit options and classes. Overall if you would like to work out and actually learn to box (not just hit a bag for the sake of cardio) this is your gym. I am the type of athlete that when I want to dedicate time to my fitness, I want to be able to concentrate on the sport and on perfecting it; Reach Fieldhouse allows me to do so. It's a large area, yes with a few imperfections, such as there only being one bathroom to share with all of the clients- but I do not come here to use the bathroom, I come here to define my sport. The variety this facility provides from its immense selection of free weights, to the ring, to classes and option for trainers is top notch. I love this gym. I never have to wait for a squat rack. They have lots of open space. Plenty of free weight equipment. It's difficult to find a place that has good free weight options and boxing heavy bags. Reach has lots of both. Here's a rundown on what they have; battling ropes, prowler sleds, kettlebells, speed bags, heavy bags, rubber plates for olympic lifts, boxes for box jumps, medicine balls, giant tires for tire flips. There's a lot more but these are the things that stand out. They also have classes and crossfit but I have not tried them. read more

Now I will get on to the great parts They have a ton of classes that are not offered everywhere Sure some places of tye bow or won of those goofy infomercial wanna be fighting classes while you look silly But..... If you wanna be a badass they offer real classes in striking First, arturo is one of the lead boxing coaches .... he is a great guy, he has trained a former UFC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION ! You got a lot of the employees that have unique talents in striking You have ricky and rami. Two awesome dudes who are badaxx. Boxers ..... You got danyel a pro MMA fighter teaching striking. Completely annoyed by the fact that they haven't added any kettlebell or bootcamp-type classes at night on Tuesdays or Thursdays like these said the would. If you look at the class schedule for the week, their only weight-oriented classes are on M & W doing boxing (unless you want to do boxing every night which gets really repetitive really fast). Not only that, but when I asked for a better variety of evening classes, I was told, "Yeah! But you have to get people to come." Ummmm zuuuhhhh...?! Didn't know I worked for RBF. Don't ever remember receiving a paycheck or any sort of "in" on the commission structure. Needless to say, I'm one more star away from dropping which is disappointing. read more

First I want to point out that this place is like nowhere I've ever been a member of. They have literally everything you're looking for. Feel like learning boxing one day and train for a Spartan Race the next? You can do that. CrossFit and then Yoga? Check and Check. Being a member here allows me to switch up my daily routine as much as I want. Last week I took a Muay Thai class and then Wing Chung. Seems like every few weeks new equipment is showing up. My point is simple, this facility offers an almost never ending supply of choices and variations for my workouts. The staff is extremely top notch and owners Adam and Charlie all make you feel like you're right at home. Their nutritional programs helped me meet my initial goals even faster. I recently stepped into a big name gym (where my gf would leave but she can't break her contract without getting crushed by fees) and I realized how much I don't miss the atmosphere at all. I love going to REACH to train with my personal trainer, Sari Weis. From the very first moment I set foot in the gym, I was welcomed by a staff that is always welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. Four months later, the staff continues to be as warm and welcoming. REACH has been in the process of updating its facility...new windows, new equipment, etc. It is a place to workout intensely without any judgments from staff or consumers. The ambience is lively, friendly, and electric. It's nice to see that the membership grows daily and the gym will be around for years to come. Really cool space. I love coming to work out, but there is some front desk staff member I think his name is Charlie , he is really rude and he is never doing his job. While I was workin out today he was being really racist saying he doesn't want to scare off his friends with the "ghetto" music that was playing. Adam, the founder, is rude and not great with people. I started going to this gym last year and I had an motor vehicle accident which did not allow me to go to the gym. I went in and spoke to Charlie about freezing the account while I recover. Then, A few days after I talked to him, I was charged AGAIN!! They continued charging me for what they told me was going to be on a hold till I was able to return, months after. A few months ago I went in again and talked to Charlie again and Adam the owner, at which time they both agreed to refund me a month only and said that when I was ready to return back to the gym to come see him and he refund the months they accidentally charged already. I agreed to it, so we froze the account AGAIN......, which was already supposed to have been done. Two months passed and they started charging me again for two months without my consent. I came to see Adam again and he does not even remember me, I asked to speak w Charlie to confirm, yet he was let go because he messed up other people's accounts, not just mine. He feels that it's okay to pull money from my account even though I have not been at his gym since January, and gets shocked when I say that I do not want be a member of his gym after this. Basically he has been stealing money from me and refuses to give it back. Don't say something and turn around and lie to someone about it. read more

When I was making my move from Logan Square to Noble Square last year, the one thing I was researching, was a boxing gym I can join. Once I came across Reach Fieldhouse, I knew I found a home. The website hooked me, especially the video. So I joined August 19th, 2015 and have been there ever since. I remember taking Efrain's Boxing class at 7:30pm, me, a tiny girl, with lack of endurance/cardio activity. I was losing lots of oxygen, let's say that, Efrain being a great instructor and a good body language reader, was consistently asking if I was okay, and to take a break, drink water. Not many instructors tell you that. I appreciated that greatly because I am someone who doesn't take breaks. EVERY single boxing instructor in this gym has his own way of leading the group. It's amazing. You never get bored but you SURE get tired wink emoticon The difference in this gym that I have experienced is that you have a round of mitting, counterpunching drills, etc. It helps you understand why you are punching the heavy bag the way you do and how it matches up to hitting a real person. Arturo has a 10AM class that I have frequented on my days off. With his years of experience, his words of encouragment made me work harder. He always gives you a thumbs up if you are working on your arms or legs. To me, these little gestures mean a lot. I got hit by a car once and everyday since he's told me to be careful. Genuine heart. Jayh has a 11am class. He will KICK your ass.He has taught me how to "corkscrew" jab/cross. He will come up to you to help you understand the speed bag. He will push you to exceed your limits. You better come and work hard in his class. His adidas track suit? ON POINT. Efrain likes to change his class up. From mitting, to counter punching drills, to gearing up with a body protectors. He has the Jalomo twins play defense, while we pretend to be actual boxers in the ring. The twins work the desk and help around with the pads. Rani can kick your butt and make you work very hard. Both of them are genuinely friendly, and always smiling and greeting people on their way in and out. Martin, also works the front desk and is super nice, he teaches a strength and conditioning class, that will leave you sore for days. I dare you all, drop by for a first free class! read more

Oh, Reach... where did you go so wrong? Let's start out, first review, but I'm beyond pissed at the condition of this gym. Where to start? Let's be clear, Reach is a filthy gym. Filthy is probably being too nice. The management at this gym honestly doesn't give a f*ck about how clean their gym is. Every single day I have come in, there's a construction project of some sorts, half-finished going on. There is dirt EVERYWHERE!! They hardly ever sweep or vacuum, and never have I seen them disinfect a single piece of equipment at that gym. This is a sweaty, dirty, gym. And not in the cool, hollywood style. No, you feel like you're going to catch a rash here. Case in point, right around Halloween (now 5 weeks have past) one of their front windows got smashed. Broken glass everywhere. It's been 5 weeks and they still haven't cleaned up the area. The front astroturf area you can't use, because it's covered in broken glass. Don't even ask about the water situaton, the water fountain is probably the most disgusting water fountain in the city of chicago. You'll see when you get there. So, it's dirty, is it worth 1 star, really? Yes. Management here blows. Most of the members all know it, and talk about it constantly. You come to them with a problem and they mock you to your face. You ask if they have wipes to clean equipment with, and they tell you 'Nobody will use them anyway'. Most of the time, you'll find whatever front desk person sitting behind the desk, surfing the internet. Equipment might be all over the place, it might be dirty as hell, but hey... they got their priorities right huh? Most of the time, they'll usually get burritos or some other kind of stinky food and eat it right in front of you while you're working out. I joined in the summer and was promised a locker room, showers, a yoga room, and that all of their 'projects' would be completed that summer. It's been like 6 months, and it's still in shambles. No changing rooms, no clean water, dirty (yes, it's really that dirty), no showers, no nothing. They 'rebranded' a few weeks ago, and don't even have a sign on their windows or doors. No website, no nothing. Everything at Reach is half-assed. It's lazy. It's not qualities I would want for my own gym/personal image. They really don't care. So, what's left. Oh, right. Did you know that half of their equipment you can't use on a regular basis. They have a few scattering of ellipticals and treadmills upstairs, most of which are broken or unplugged ALL THE TIME. Those machines are brought in by some guy, that when he is there, you can do a review to use those machines. Yes, seriously. They also are pieces of garbage. At least 2 of them are broken right now, and still just sitting up there, not fixed. What about the rest of the gym... well, we save the best for last.... CROSSFIT! If you've never been introduced to the douche-filled workout, you'll learn to hate it in a matter of minutes. They slam weights constantly, take up over half of the gym, are allowed to kick you off of whatever equipment you are using (because apparently they own it, and not Reach), and take up the entire pull-up rack. All day, everyday. Come into the gym between 5-8pm, and you'll find they have classes going all the time. Slamming weights, using every piece of equipment, and then kicking you off the rowing machines or sometimes even taking Plyo-boxes or jump ropes out of your hand. Yes, this really happens. This is not a crossfit gym, but it will feel like one very quick. Downstairs, besides boxing and crossfit, you're stuck with very little space to use on your own during peak hours. Try to talk to management about Crossfit, they'll agree with you, and do nothing about it. If you're into entitled douchebags, you'll love it. To be fair, the trainers are awesome. They are the only people that seem to care, but you can tell it's wearing on them. You can tell they are getting fed up. I can't blame them. Most of the members (not the ones that do crossfit) are pretty friendly. Everyone that comes into the gym, says that it has so much potential, if only someone cared enough. Reach could be great, but it's not. They charge a premium price (CAC and other area gyms charge less and offer more) under the guise of having a unique no-frills approach... but a dirty, unorganized, un-safe, and bare-bottom gym is what you get. I wouldn't complain, if they weren't charging me $100 a month for an elite pass. If you suspect I'm wrong about any of this... walk in the front door with this review in mind. Start noticing these things, they are painfully obvious. This place has looked the same (half-finished construction projects and broken equipment) for the past 5 months. It's actually getting worse. It's a shame Reach, you could have been a great gym, but I'm looking for other ones, because I can't keep giving you my money anymore. read more
