    Chicago from LA Fitness

This facility is very clean and well laid out. It's organized and spaced out very well. The staff is kind and helpful, it feels like a place accessible to all, the employees treat you the same whether you're a gym bunny/bro or a beginner. My favorite part though? The view! Who doesn't love a beautiful view of Chicago when you workout.

Good value for the money. Cost me 40ish usd monthly, big gym with a nice pool, sauna, hot tub and squash court. Never too full. However, pool breaks down every 3 months or so, each time requiring 2-3 weeks of repair time. Now the pool has not worked for over a month! Not a lot of group classes if that's what you look for.

    The view.

The hours are absolute garbage. I get it. Maybe Chicagoans just don't lift as much as other locales, but compared to other states, this is pitiful. 7 on the weekends? Seriously. At least have it be 8. 10 on M-TH??? They bought out XSport AFTER I signed a 2 year contract with XSport. Then they reduced my amazing 24 hour gym hours to the shit hours they have. They then closed the decent gym in the Marianos building in Broadway and forced us all to go to the one on Clark in the Century building. This venue is alright and not as terrible as many make it out to be. People in Iceland workout in more hardcore dustier gyms. It definitely isn't no suburban gym from their catalog though, so glad they see us as worthy of less in terms of updated equipment and cleaner/less crowded spaces. One issue, somewhat out of their control, is that the upstairs is very prone to getting crowded enough, even at the last hour, that it's a safety issue. The view is probably the one good thing about this venue, but let's be real....who's going to the gym to look out at the city, as beautiful as it is. The worst part is I'm not entirely sure there's a better alternative in the area. I'm worried what happens when my 2 years are up. I doubt they have a deal as good as XSport. What really earns the one star for me is them shutting off the lights at the 55 mark of their last hour. It's a very passive aggressive way to tell people to gtfo. I always make sure I'm out right by close. The former XSport on Ashland DOES NOT DO THIS. I wonder whyyyyyy? Perhaps because they were a better BRAND.

Not a single person using them in this area btw so they are scattered upstairs and downstairs somewhere.

Honestly this gym went down hill over the years, the members who come here have gotten worse they never put anything back where it belongs so you spend a good amount of your workout looking for dumbbells the staff is nice but the members have made this gym into something that ruins it for everyone else. Don't get me started on all the tri pods for these so called fitness influencers!

Hours are bad, pool is always broken, but for $30 a month, meh it's fine. Gets the job done if you want machines and nothing else.

The owner, Sharon, is so welcoming and has created such a great community where everyone feels comfortable and motivated. If you're serious about lifting, this is the place to be. They have an amazing variety of machines and equipment that you won't find at most gyms, and everything is designed for people who really want to train properly. The atmosphere is motivating, the people are friendly, and it feels like a gym where everyone genuinely wants to see each other succeed. A couple of my friends joined after I recommended it, and they're so glad they did. I couldn't recommend Quads more!

This is the most difficult review I've ever written for Yelp because I honestly love the idea of…read moreQuads and its history, but after a trial week, I ran back to my pathetic Planet Fitness. For years, I walked by and looked in the window just to see if some of the vibe would entice me to walk in and get energized by all the real-life Marvel Superheroes working out. And I'm glad for the week of experience I had because Quads has some of the nicest, knowledgeable, and dedicated fitness people I've ever met. From the moment I walked in to my final exit, the desk staff, the family members who run it, trainers I encountered, and a few guys who could deadlift car engines whom I asked questions how to use this or that, I felt a lot of compassion for me being the new guy in a sea of bewildering equipment that could either change my fitness life or scare me away. Bear in mind that I truly love Quads but coming from a lengthy history of memberships at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness, Gorilla Sports, YMCA, Holmes Place, Chicago Athletic Clubs, and Planet Fitness (with visits to FFC, Crunch, East Bank Club, Cheetah, Life Time, Bally's, and Midtown Athletic Club), I have to do a pro and con thing. Pros It's a good environment to watch others doing astonishing calisthenic exercises and massive lifts and squats. I'll never get to that level, but it's an inspiring place to get jazzed about your own routine. Quads has a diverse membership. You'll see everything from people doing their daily treadmill to pro bodybuilders doing four-hour circuits. I saw every kind of body type and age group. People doing rehab exercises and a person with a visual impairment. The specialty here is bodybuilding, though everyone is welcome. You'll hear grunts, fits of anger, yelling of encouragement, the rage of accomplishment, and claps of high-five. I felt like I was in a place where great bodies are refined. The membership prices are fantastic for the amount of equipment you're offered, and the hours are comparable to other gyms. They offer a few additional membership discounts not listed on the website, so go in and talk with them. Kudos to a gym that finally understands the right way memberships should work--upfront and no hassles. You are constantly reminded of your potential. There are photos and awards everywhere of past and present bodybuilders and pro and amateur athletes, and you can't help but soak up some of that greatness. You're in a place where celebrities have trained, too. Cons Here's where I have to be brutally honest. I may not know the difference between an Iso-Lateral Front Lat Pulldown and an Iso-Lateral Wide Pulldown, but I do know when machines are so old that they need to be replaced. If a machine's pads are worn, replace them. If a Selectorized's weight stack has half its weight labels missing, that should be fixed asap. If a machine's so old that the frame's been painted a number of times, it's probably a good time to replace it. I'm going to guess most of the equipment is older than the members. Sure, old-school machines can be great, and a lot of bodybuilders want them, but at some point, you need to replace them. Hammer Strength, Precor, and Cybex are constantly evolving the science of ergonomics, body mechanics, and safety. Please, Quads. Get new equipment. I didn't see any dumbbells less than 10#. That's not a bad thing, but small weight dumbbells would be great for people doing rehab or weaklings like me starting back at doing simple free weight exercises. In fairness, Planet Fitness dumbbells start at 10#, too. Other reviews are correct: A lot of the equipment, especially the Selectorized machines on the first floor, are squished so closely that safety could be an issue. There are a few machines so close together that parts could touch if used in full range of motion. If you're used to a defined circuit from a previous gym--especially if most of your workout is using Selectorized equipment--you might have difficulties matching it to the machines here. Plate-loaded and cables, no problem; they'll have one of anything you'll ever want. But for Selectorized, nothing made sense because a lot of what I needed was spread throughout the gym on both floors and in hard to find areas (e.g. the pec fly/rear delt machine was in a dimly lit corner, and most of the weights in the stack had no labels). I won't go into cleanliness. Suffice it to say this is a well-worn gym. The rusty lockers and second floor smell attest to the longevity of Quads, for better or worse. Overall, you should try Quads for a week to see if you like it. Most people swear this is the best gym. No, Quads doesn't have a pool, a sauna, towel service, group fitness classes, fancy self-locking lockers, a three-story climbing wall, or sleep rooms. They offer a world of fitness possibilities in an old school gym where amazing happens.

I was assigned to Eric-Todd and had a great experience. I learned how to do workouts that I was afraid to do on my own before, and was introduced to a wide variety of exercises, including using the cable machine, leg exercises using my own body weight, kettlebell, medicine ball, TRX, etc. Over the course of a month, we never repeated a single exercise! I was really impressed with how much were were able to get through in just 30 minutes, twice a week. Each session, I'd do warms up and cool downs on my own, and the 30 minutes were action packed with exercises. It was actually pretty nice not having to think about weights, being handed certain pieces of equipment, and being told exactly what to do. I understand that transportation issues can happen, but it's unlikely the instructor found out at the exact last minute. This was very disappointing, and it doesn't seem like a viable option for me going forward. On top of that, the cancellation came by email with no apology, just a note to "stay warm," which felt dismissive. I'm disappointed with how this situation was handled and hope this can be addressed more professionally in the future for other customers. Update: The manager responded and offered free classes after I replied to their initial cancellation email. An apology was not provided until after I mentioned that the situation felt unprofessional. If I did not provide feedback, there would have been no additional interaction. She also noted that the instructor arrived around the class start time, and I am not sure whether that was meant to suggest that I should have waited despite receiving a cancellation notice. My phone number is listed in my ClassPass profile, however, I cannot control what information the business is able to access on their end. I understand that transportation issues happen. I understand that weather can be a factor. For example, in order for me to make the class, I also had to clean off my car and shovel. If I had cancelled, and they were open, I most likely would've been charged a fee. I was frustrated that an apology was not initially offered. That simple gesture of acknowledgment shows that you respect the time and effort of others. I did not respond to their follow-up emails because I do not plan to take classes there. The delayed apology and the way the situation was handled overall do not align with the type of interactions I look for in a business. Overall, I just did not appreciate the tone of our interaction, and free classes does not make up for that. I've been appropriately refunded and there is no other action for the business to take on their end regarding me. Stay Warm.
