The workouts are great, but apparently toilet paper is a premium membership perk. I swear this location has a personal vendetta against stocking the bathrooms. Every visit turns into a scavenger hunt, and today there was exactly one stall with toilet paper... and it was occupied. So now I'm literally sitting here writing this review while waiting. For a gym that prides itself on fitness, keeping the bathrooms stocked shouldn't be the hardest workout in the building. My glutes came here for leg day, not for an endurance challenge in the restroom. Please stock the toilet paper. Consistently. That's all we're asking. read more

I'm extremely frustrated after a recent call with customer service. The representative I spoke with had a very dismissive, "it-is-what-it-is" and "take-it-or-leave-it" attitude regarding my concerns about the gym's yoga mats and exercise balls. Nearly all of the yoga mats are severely deteriorated, and the gym has only three exercise balls available for the entire facility. I've raised concerns about the poor condition of the mats multiple times, but nothing has changed. During this call, the representative flatly stated, "These are the mats we are going to purchase," despite my explaining that they tear easily, wear out quickly, and provide little to no padding or comfort. When I mentioned that I can feel my knees hitting the floor during floor exercises, she bluntly told me I could bring my own mat. The conversation became even more unprofessional when she asked about my "future plans," clearly implying that if I was unhappy, I should simply cancel my membership and go elsewhere. She repeatedly emphasized that no one is forcing me to remain a member and that I could either accept the equipment as-is or leave. I also mentioned that XSport previously offered high-quality mats and a large supply of exercise balls. In response, she sarcastically remarked that XSport is no longer in business. I acknowledged that fact and explained that their closure was due to the COVID period, as happened to many businesses, but that didn't change the point about quality equipment. What is most upsetting is that my core concern--that it makes no sense to continue repurchasing low-quality mats that deteriorate quickly--was completely dismissed. The representative made it clear that the company has no intention of considering alternatives, regardless of member feedback. I find it hard to believe that a business would knowingly continue to waste money on poor-quality equipment that neither lasts nor benefits its members. I have attached photos of the mats currently in use; some are even worse than those shown and are nearly ripped apart. Additionally, the lack of exercise balls is surprising and inconvenient, especially when comparable gyms offer a dozen or more. Again, the customer service agent insisted I could just leave if I'm unhappy. I truly hope LA Fitness addresses these issues. Customer service attitudes like this, combined with ignoring valid concerns about equipment quality, will inevitably drive members away--including myself. While the representative treated my membership as insignificant, if enough members share these concerns, the impact on the business will be undeniable. read more

No complaints here great location with nice views of the city as it's located on the 7th floor of the Century building. There is no free parking so if your driving you have to pay in the lot or find street parking. Equipment is older but in good working condition and the staff is great. Gym is clean for a gym. This gym is the definition of you get what you pay for. All the necessities, but it is very dirty. No one wipes down the machines and on weekdays it can get too packed to properly work out. There is water dripping from the ceiling and they just use buckets to collect it. This has been going on for months. They also sell candy from a vending machine?? Really? read more

This facility is very clean and well laid out. It's organized and spaced out very well. The staff is kind and helpful, it feels like a place accessible to all, the employees treat you the same whether you're a gym bunny/bro or a beginner. My favorite part though? The view! Good value for the money. Cost me 40ish usd monthly, big gym with a nice pool, sauna, hot tub and squash court. Never too full. However, pool breaks down every 3 months or so, each time requiring 2-3 weeks of repair time. Now the pool has not worked for over a month! The hours are absolute garbage. I get it. Maybe Chicagoans just don't lift as much as other locales, but compared to other states, this is pitiful. 7 on the weekends? Seriously. At least have it be 8. 10 on M-TH??? They bought out XSport AFTER I signed a 2 year contract with XSport. Then they reduced my amazing 24 hour gym hours to the shit hours they have. They then closed the decent gym in the Marianos building in Broadway and forced us all to go to the one on Clark in the Century building. This venue is alright and not as terrible as many make it out to be. People in Iceland workout in more hardcore dustier gyms. It definitely isn't no suburban gym from their catalog though, so glad they see us as worthy of less in terms of updated equipment and cleaner/less crowded spaces. One issue, somewhat out of their control, is that the upstairs is very prone to getting crowded enough, even at the last hour, that it's a safety issue. The view is probably the one good thing about this venue, but let's be real....who's going to the gym to look out at the city, as beautiful as it is. The worst part is I'm not entirely sure there's a better alternative in the area. I'm worried what happens when my 2 years are up. I doubt they have a deal as good as XSport. What really earns the one star for me is them shutting off the lights at the 55 mark of their last hour. It's a very passive aggressive way to tell people to gtfo. I always make sure I'm out right by close. The former XSport on Ashland DOES NOT DO THIS. I wonder whyyyyyy? Perhaps because they were a better BRAND. read more

Wow... Just wow.. This could quite possibly be the worst gym I have ever been to in existence... From the selfish clientele hogging every single machine and weight, to machines not working.. Unattentive staff.. Missing weights everywhere I mean I could literally go on for hours this was the biggest joke I have ever seen. Truly unbelievable. Honestly this gym went down hill over the years, the members who come here have gotten worse they never put anything back where it belongs so you spend a good amount of your workout looking for dumbbells the staff is nice but the members have made this gym into something that ruins it for everyone else. Someone at corporate, higher up than the local manager needs to step in and do whatever is necessary to fix and open the pool. Also, one time, on an autumn Sunday afternoon, I was working out on an elliptical. There were 15 TVs within eyeshot, none of which had the Chicago Bear football game on. I asked if they could change the channel so I could watch while I worked out. I was told they were not allowed to change the channel, "corporate rule". In Chicago, on a Sunday afternoon, they had on news, cooking show, college sports, infomercials, but they couldn't put on the Chicago Bear football game!!!!! read more

The big problem is that the pool has been closed for over a year, despite monthly promises from management that it will be opening any minute. To be fair, it appears the management of the gym is not being given truthful information from the higher regional managers. So, if you're a swimmer, you're out of luck. When the pool is opened (as it was until a year ago) it was very good. The location is good and the weights comprehensive. It's a dated, run down looking gym that needs a main floor and locker refresh. If the pool reopens and it's cleaned up, it could be a great gym. read more

This location is not permanently closed as yelp says, but it should be. Several issues here: -For a week, the water shut off in the building. No communication was sent out or alternative options for refilling water. Vending machines didn't even have water. -facilities are aged and poorly maintained. The pool has been shut down for months (for disgusting reasons I'm sure), locker rooms are absolutely fowl and outdated, and equipment is below mediocracy. -The gym is left to high school kids for day-to-day management. If you have a problem there's no one to talk to. If you want to cancel your membership they'll tell you to do it mail in a form or call an LA fitness hotline (if you ask them to do it they'll laugh in your face) -There is horrible overcrowding in the gym and no one is keeping track of capacity. Expect to wait behind several people to use equipment if you go during prime hours. read more

Had an LA membership for awhile now, the gym itself is very out of date, the locker rooms are gross, however the space and location is nice. When LA acquired xsport I switched to that spot and it was super nice but not even 3 months after I switched they shut it down. So now I'm back at the Clark street spot and literally my second time in here they don't have working restrooms. One of my biggest complaints is that they have never had paper towels. All they have is the tiny little wipes that are 90% dry. I don't get why you would acquire nicer gyms than your own and then close all of them. Lost more costumers than they kept. Canceled my membership while I was still in the building. read more

Honestly for what it is this gym is not bad. Has all the equipment you need, lots of cardio/weight machines, and decent sized spaces. The sauna and pool have traded off being closed for about a year which is frusturating. It also gets crazy packed on weeknights from 5-7. Staff is friendly. They do a good job cleaning the space as well. Otherwise this LA fitness is a good bang for your buck. read more

Been coming here for 4 years despite it being the worst gym I've ever been to. The pool has been closed over a year and they keep saying it'll open soon. 1 of the 2 elevators was out of commission for over a year and finally got fixed. Most of the weights and machines are very outdated. When XSport closed they welcomed a ton of new members. I used to come at 6 pm and had no problem getting what i want. Now there's a lot wait line every time i want to get on a treadmill and there are 20 treadmills. Also the janitors clean at the worst time. I've had people literally vacuuming around my feet as i workout it's really dangerous. Wouldn't waste your time getting a $40+ membership. If i could give 0 stars i would. read more

As a former employee I can validate all of the bad and more. It's like the perfect marriage of dysfunction when LA Fit and X Sport become an unholy union. I saw rampant drug abuse among the employees. Management breeds subhuman, shark behavior among the employees. They even kept someone in management accused of SA by trainers, sales staff, and members because he put up good numbers; every active X Sport employee that's been there for 4 years or more know who this employee is. The upper management that allowed for this is essentially still in the fold. If equipment breaks, good chance it stays broken indefinitely. Currently, multiple locations are closed down due to not having adequate AC. The AC has been an ongoing problem for over a decade and despite raising membership costs and charging maintenance fees, nothing really changes. The costs have gone up while they keep shortening the hours (what was a 24 hr gym as X Sport) and have gutted the amenities. If you can afford it, pay a little bit more to get some semblance of decency on your fitness journey. read more

The dirtiest gym rats come here, don't wipe their machine after use or clear the weights after using. Seriously I've never seen a gym so gross where literally no one cleans after their sweaty selves. There needs to be more wipes and trash cans in more locations. I can't believe LA Fitness hasn't updated this gym since what looks like the 80's. The locker room is rusty and gross. The water fountains and bathrooms seem to be intermittent nowadays. The sauna is coed and very uncomfortable for women with men in there with nothing but boxers on.. even barefoot - gross! I would never dare swim in that pool, it doesn't look clean. The hot tub doesn't look clean either there's always some weird foam building up. read more

Recently joined and was invited for one free personal training session by a trainer named Jimmy. We scheduled it for 11am last Monday. I showed up and told the guy at the front desk I was there for Jimmy. He went and told Jimmy. I waited about 20 minutes. I told the desk guy that I'd leave if Jimmy didn't show up in another 5 minutes. During that time, Jimmy even came to the desk and didn't acknowledge me. Just stood around chatting/flirting with another patron. Then he went elsewhere in the gym, so I left. I'll probably cancel my membership after barely going here at all. read more

The cheap a** owners bought a gym nearby and decided to close it to cut costs which has caused everyone from that gym to come to this already PACKED La Fitness location - do not even bother trying to come workout on Monday. And you would hope with the owner being so cheap that they would at least improve equipment but they don't, they have equipment that's 10 years old and an elevator that has been from for quite literally 10 months. I was a member here for 3 1/2 years, Anna and the cleaning staff are great. and it is a big gym. My main issue with this plane is the members. They are Rude , inpatient inconsiderate ,they gossip , and give dirty looks for no reason. I'm someone who takes my fitness seriously and la fitness is not for that or for me. What I like: -My membership allows me to work out at LA Fitnesses all over the city and the country (great for when I'm visiting friends in Phoenix) -Location has an excellent view of the skyline when you're using the weight on the second floor, pretty cool -Racquetball courts! Not a ton of places to play racquetball, and this comes with membership. I pay extra to have "guest privileges" so I can bring up to 2 people with me to work out and they don't have to pay. -Great selection of weights and machines...even when it gets busy I can get a good workout in -Large pool, hot tub, and steam room...great for relaxing after a good workout -Free Wi-Fi What I don't like: -NO TOWEL SERVICE! When I leave LA, this will be the reason why. I get it, maintaining towels is expensive, but I'll pay for it, and so would a lot of people. And just have people check them out, so if they don't return them to the desk, they get charged. CMON -Bathrooms don't seem like they're cleaned often, they don't smell great -The manager is awesome, but the rest of the staff seem pretty indifferent, sans the one tall thin guy at the desk who is friendly read more

Never have I ever done yoga and I got my first exposure to it during one of the classes with Kevin this Friday. Very knowledgeable instructor who has great advices for the beginners like me and made sure that all positions are performed correctly. I came to the class the next day and did not get as much of the stretch as I did during Kevin's class. I will make sure to catch his class next week. On a different note, I've been a member with this club for 5+ years and can say that it is time for some renovation.. Lockers are in very poor conditions (some of them barely even open or tilted) and ceiling in the swimming pool appears to be falling apart. Jacuzzi also constantly down so it might be the time. View from the weight room is gorgeous and encourage you to work out harder and more in that room so you can enjoy it a bit longer. I had an outstanding experience. The staff was 5 star all the way, especially Jesus and Jose. I was living in a hotel for a week while a family member had a complicated surgery and recover and had no place to exercise. Save yourself some money. Not one persons fault but collectively it is a poorly managed show. Short term customers. We put in a request 6 times for our membership to be canceled before the contractual date where an annual fees gets kicked in, but the gym never canceled it until our card got charged. When asked about applying a refund, they were less than courteous. They said we should contact corporate. When we asked for help to navigate the phone call with corporate in person, their was no ownership. Unbelievably terrible customer service, and we all know what happens to businesses that work this way. read more
