Absolutely Unacceptable Cancellation & Billing Practices. I cancelled my Planet Fitness membership in person, yet continued to be charged anyway. When I noticed the charges didn't stop, I made multiple attempts to resolve it--including two emails and phone calls--none of which were returned. The facility did not answer the phone, and no one responded to my emails. Despite cancelling, I was charged again, and then charged the annual fee on top of it. To make matters worse, when I finally spoke with the director, they refused to refund the annual charge that should never have gone through in the first place. At one point during my membership, I was even charged twice in a single month. If you sign up here, I can almost guarantee you'll deal with overcharges, poor communication, and a complete lack of accountability. This business is untrustworthy and unwilling to make things right, even when the error is clearly on their end. Cancelling should not require this level of effort, persistence, and stress. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere. read more

Very busy area, very tiny planet fitness. Equipment is very clean and all pretty shiny new. Space is the only issue. Most gyms are very crowded post 5pm, but this location is even more so. Lines for everything and bodies in every corner. Locker rooms are spotless, but also very small. Wish the location had the ability to add some sq feet. Parking is in a shared lot with Weiland's. Today I was able to try PF in Columbus, OH. They staff was very friendly when I came it. The women's locker room was small but clean! Like most PF's, the weight area was quite small. The cardio area was also small compared to most PFs. It was a great gym though! Large parking area too close to the front door. The one thing I did not like about this PF was that the Black Card area was out in the open with clear windows to see inside. If I was in a massage chair, I would be uncomfortable with people being able to watch me as I'm trying to relax. The tanning rooms are also in the main hallway which isn't appealing to most. I will most likely come back to this location next time I am in the area. read more

Just this week alone, I saw a girl in underwear, working out. A couple guys in pajamas and house slippers. a lady on a treadmill and her dog on the next treadmill to her, sleeping...the men's bathroom shower was covered in trash and clothes that homeless people left on the floor? It's packed. I don't see many Americans in here anymore. Seems odd. People just standing around, not really even exercising. Teens/kids recording in the men's changing room( I asked them to stop the video so I could walk by in my towel). I informed the staff and they said, "we know"... planet fitness, what is going on at Indianola?? Just as long as you have visitors then the place can be a shithole? Staff don't even care. This was just a visit to a PF near to where I work for a weekend workout. B/c I'm Black card, I thought I'd try it out. It was clean, neat & all the equipment was working. My only complaint was that it was really small! The ab area was compact & nearly had people stuffed everywhere!?! Is there a way to limit time to say 10 minutes for use of the three weight machines? Seems like every time I visit the gym after work, there are people just sitting on the benches at the machines and scrolling their Iphones. More time sitting or talking than weightlifting. Maybe just some signage is needed at this area, "Limit - 10 minutes on machines." read more

Was very disturbed today when a worker came by to clean the fitness machines marked to not be used for months now. He was noticeably standing very close to myself and another woman wearing tight exercise clothes. He nearly had his head injured getting too close to my moving machine handles. Meanwhile there were large sections of machines not being used at the time which are for regular use which he didn't clean. This was a perverse use of the job to ogle women. He eventually stopped and didn't clean the rest of the machines that were clearly available for cleaning and are regularly used. This was gross to experience. read more

The staff are great. The gym is very clean, and laid out well, even though it's not as big as some of the PF that I've been to. Plenty of cardio equipment. Everyone seems considerate with their time on the other equipment. The flowers in the locker room(I can only speak to the ladies) are a nice touch! read more

Tried to switch to a new card after mine expired 4 times. Every 2 weeks I'd get stopped saying there was a payment error. Went through 4 employees trying to get my payment fixed. Every time they said I'm good to go it reverted. Eventually got charged a 15$ late fee (on my monthly membership of 10$) because nobody knew what they were doing. Really pissed me off and I feel scammed by them Also it's too busy and their short hours are not as advertised (24/7 is what is advertised). I understand there have been covid restrictions but the gym often becomes unusable during certain hours even as the legal restrictions come off. No open racks either so squatting isn't ideal. read more

First time in this planet fitness. Small place . Very quiet. Very clean . People are friendly. Good place to work out when u re on road .

The location, parking, and gym equipment are all fine to me. My issue is the TV situation. After doing some weights, I like to take a long run on the treadmill or elliptical, and it's nice to have the TVs there. I'm a sports fan and it's nice to run in front of whatever game of interest is on. The TV situation has progressively gone downhill the past four years. There are 16 TVs. 7 of them have tags under them that say what channel it is supposed to be on like "ESPN" or "ABC". 9 of them do not have tags, making it a disorganized mess. One of the ESPN TVs is on the "sports mix", which is six channels on one screen making it so small you probably need to have binoculars while on the elliptical which makes that exercise kind of difficult. I'm glad you don't have any of the 24-hour "news" channels - hooray. I commonly exercise in front of horrid infomercial, Judge Judy, cooking shows, which I know are a pure delight for some. But as I'm not a lip reader and the closed captions are not on, I guess I can just try to guess what kind of smackdown Judy is putting on these people. Why not turn half the TVs to movies with closed captions? Put the other half on sports (ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U, Fox Sports 1) - something like that? Also I've sometimes gone to the front desk and asked for a specific channel to be turned on - but apparently that is impossible and akin to calling your cable company with a customer service issue (not that the employees aren't kind or competent, but instead they note that they are not allowed to change the stations). Can't we empower these folks to simply change a station? Like I said - I think the rest of the operation is a good experience as a customer, but this aspect is quite bad. Hope it improves. read more

I genuinely don't understand the negative mindset towards Planet Fitness or their gyms once you become a member. For $10, or even $20 a month, what are you expecting? As someone that's been to many different styles and sizes of gyms - from cross fit and weightlifting to corporate chains like this - Planet Fitness is the best bang for your buck! There's plenty of treadmills, elliptical, bikes, and machines to go around - even during the busier hours. Again, if you're capable of reminding yourself of the price you pay for the membership, it's easy to get over having to change up a workout because something you need is in use or not getting to use something entirely because it's continuously in use. The weight area is a little tight, but the members are generally good about confining their space and being quicker about their workouts to give others time to do what they want. The staff has always been knowledgeable and available when I've needed them and do a great job of keeping things clean and stocked. I go early in the morning, and there's been twice when no one was there to work. Literally - no one. They have a sign that says to sign yourself in. It hasn't effected me at all, but god forbid something happen to anyone, they don't have anyone there to help or deal with the situation. Hopefully whatever that staffing issue was, they got it figured out! Either way, I highly recommend this gym to anyone who's more casual about staying in shape, or is looking for an in between gym on days when you don't have other exercise classes/programs! read more

The recent remodel ended well enough, but it was poor timing. The locker rooms should have been done first before the cold settled in. The grips on the pull-up bars (slash dip machine) have needed to be replaced for a while. And the water fountain has basically been broken for 3 years. How hard is it to maintain a water fountain ***** The grips on the pull-up machine are still garbage (new pic). They are folded, twisted, too long, and too short. And if you're lucky, you can occasionally get some of the grease under the grips on your hands. read more

I train here 3-4 times per week and when I started two years ago I was starting from scratch physically. I hadn't done jack since being a high school athlete (umm 15+ years ago). The trainer came in handy as I felt intimidated to even know where to begin. He helped me create a series of workout routines that gave me confidence until I felt I could venture into the rest of the gym. Now I feel complete confidence doing anything I want. I've seen other reviews stating that this isn't a place for women but I disagree. I am not a physically aggressive/dominating person but I've never had even the smallest problem slaying reps next to anyone, man or woman. There are a lot of men who use the free weights but no one has ever made me feel less than due to my gender. In fact I find a lot of the men friendly and helpful the few times I've needed some help using a machine or trying a new technique. Maybe I'm just a really friendly person though. It's not a big gym and the parking can be a pain but I feel like it is a safe, welcoming place. The staff make it feel very pleasant and are always quick to give a friendly hello/goodbye. The Sawmill Road location has not addressed my concerns regarding two styles of music playing simultaneously from their loud speakers. I originally brought this issue to their attention nearly two months ago. Since then I have only been back twice, only to leave my workouts earlier than planned, because the music is too darn irritating and distracting. I have spoken with a wide variety of Planet Fitness staff, including a representative through email, an assistant manager from the location who assured me the issue would be communicated and addressed by their site manager, and three employees. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE! It makes me feel like they don't care about my experience there, plain and simple. I am also very close to cancelling my membership at this location. The recent remodel looks nice. They've moved the front desk, added more beverage coolers, added a larger seating area, have more tanning beds, added hydro massage machines and at least 20 more treadmills. The flooring in the front desk and seating area is new and looks nice. The The women's locker room seems to have missed the remodeling. I've been a member for 2 years and they have made some improvements in there to the toilet stalls or the changing area. 30-minute workout and stretching areas were relocated to other areas of the facility. The strength machines seem to be around the perimeter now instead of clumped together in one area. The new layout makes the gym look huge. During the 6pm - 7pm time frame there's often a wait for the treadmills. I didn't have a wait when I went this week. I don't know if it was due to the nicer weather or the additional equipment. Here's my BBB complaint... I came into the gym (Planet Fitness) today, April 13, 2023 and was told I could not go in. I was told that I was informed two times previous to update my credit card information and I had not so I could not go in. I said that I had paid for the month as they had my bank account information and I was paid up through April 17, 2023. My complaint is that I was denied a paid for service in order to extort financial information. This should be illegal. I also was not told when I was reminded (twice) to update my card information that I would be paying to be punished in this way, nor that these reminders were being logged. I was also not told I would have to cancel in person while I was there. I went home to log in online and found this out later. I went back to the gym to cancel, told the representative my story and she only wrote "billing" as the reason for cancellation. My cancellation was processed. I asked how many days I would be allowed to use the gym still and was told a date in May. I asked if I was being charged for an additional month and was told that my direct withdrawal was "drafting" (four days from the end date?) I was not offered a refund. I had told her that I was not comfortable with the company having direct access to my account information if they had a flagrant disregard for the law and would punish a paid up customer. When I signed up I was suspicious of this kind of thing happening but for $10.75 a month I decided to ignore that they had no way to pay ahead of time nor any way to pay as I go or with a credit card. I was further suspicious of a back up credit card needing to be on file. In the past I have found these to be red flags for coercive practices and, months later, I see I should have trusted my instincts yet again. I could not find an account number online but my carbon copy of the cancellation has membership# I would like to see a change in policy. If someone is paid up, Planet Fitness should not be able to deny paid for services extort from members Refund An apology. and if there are consequences attached to something or interactions are being logged then members should be notified of such. read more

The gym itself is fine. Equipment is in good condition and working. After signing up and one month of membership I got a notice on my app going to sign in that owed a $15 late fee. So I inquired at the desk at signing in on a Saturday. They said it must be something when it was entered into the system even though the initial sign in fee was billed immediately. The manager wasnt in Sat or Sun so I try Monday. Manager not in but was told they usually didnt wave late fees. I asked to check my billing. Because it couldnt take from my checking account, they billed my back up credit card. So they took the money, but I was still responsible for the late fee. I go back and forth and mention this is my first month here and they had the money. Wouldnt work with me. As soon as I said, close my account a ready made sheet was ready to go and I was deactivated within a minute. That's their business model. read more

Updated review after remodel: Two Stars if you are a a male intermediate to advanced trainer Four Stars if you are a beginner, a woman, cardio junkie, or simply do not have lofty fitness goals * Took out ALL the free weights with the exception of the dumbbells * Dropped the dumbbell weight even more * Got all new equipment, but instead of taking that opportunity to get some Hammers Strength brand machines, they brought in their feminized purple and yellow branded crap with restricted weight stacks I'm on the fence with continuing to give this chain my money. At 14 years of on and off fitness experience and 5 straight months of good habits and consistent progress, I've pretty much outgrown PF already. On the other hand, it's so cheap and close to my house that it could come in handy for when I just need to get a cardio or ab session in. I could likely do all my other "serious" lifting elsewhere. read more

Initially, I loved this gym. It's cheap, fairly clean and conveniently located near my Clintonville address. I started working out about 7 months ago and it's nice that with my "Black Card Membership" I can bring my buddy, who is knowledge about fitness, with me to workout for free. Since I have been coming here 3-4 times a week for the last 7 months there's something I've noticed that's making me consider joining a "big boy" gym. They have this whole "no judgment" "gym for the people" thing going and actually have a "lunk head alarm." You can't grunt, drop weights, etc....basically you have to lift in silence. Well, I'm trying to bulk up my ectomorph frame which requires me to lift heavy weight. I'm going to grunt and drop weights on occasion. Which results in looks from the staff. I feel its a contradiction, they're judging people who want to do more than just tone up and spend an hour on the treadmill. I think this a great basic gym, but the "no judgment" concept is flawed to me. I feel judged. I'm giving it 3 stars because it sometimes smells like a sock, they don't enforce the "no street clothes" policy and they don't have classes or a trainer on staff. Yes, I know, I only pay $19 a month but, it should still be a well rounded facility. read more

Cheap cheap cheap. When I go to the gym, I want to be left alone... but also have staff nearby for when I need something. The staff will greet you at the door when you come in, and unless you seek them out, you won't hear from them again until they say "bye" when you leave. They're all really friendly except for that one chach-y guy with the gelled hair and smug face. You know the one. Look out for their $99/year deals. They spring up in August as well. If you have a friend who is a PF member, bother them for the coupons they get before Christmas (one is a $99/year coupon). For $99 bucks, you get cardio equipment, hand weights, dumbbells, some weight racks that are unfortunately on tracks, a plethora of weight machines, and a circuit room where you just jump into the circuit whenever you want. Update: since their remodel, there is no longer a separate cardio machine room with a cooler air temperature, much to the chagrin of the heat-intolerant like myself. However, the now centrally-located cardio machines are directly underneath the "Big Ass" fans and the machines located near the ends of the fan blades receive a strong breeze which is nice. The free weight area has been roughly halved in size, which is extremely unfortunate. The space seems to have been sacrificed to allow for the installation of a questionably practical Hydro-massage room where the abs/stretching area once was. If you're mad about the gym being too crowded in the evening, you're probably the same person who's mad when restaurants are crowded with lunch and dinner rushes, and is aghast when a popular bar is too crowded on Saturday nights. read more

Planet Fitness is everything I want in a gym. 1. A wide variety of people. Everyone from elderly people to college students are always here. 2. Affordability - $10 a month is an amazing price for the quality of the gym. 3. Variety of machines - I love the treadmill and elliptical, but I like switching up my workout. It is nice to have the bikes, stair climbers, etc. to get my cardio on. 4. Friendly staff - From the day I joined, all of the staff members have been extremely friendly. I have seen them deal with difficult people, and they are always calm and patient. Great team of workers. Planet Fitness is a win in my book. I do not need the extra "frills" that other gyms offer. $10 a month for a great place to work out? Awesome. read more

I went here for about three years right after they opened and watched as the place fell apart. The staff didn't care and all the machines looked like crap. Band-aids stuck in the bottom of cup holders, ripped up head rests and dirty bathrooms. I won't hold the facility accountable for the old pervert clients that went there. Anyways I finally let my membership go and got a membership at Urban Active instead. Then I learned what a bad gym really is. My UA membership finally died, and now i'm back. The new staff really seems to care, and is open about the owner's poor attitude and how they fight him to clean the place up which I appreciate. They are also now 24 hours, the equipment is in much better shape and overall the place is clean again. You will not do better in columbus for the dirt cheap price and feature rich membership. Dude on the bicycle machine serriously needs to keep his shirt on though, no one wants to see your flabby naked gut do the wave. read more

This gym is perfect for me...cheap and close to my apartment. I don't know how to use most of the equipment and might injure myself or perhaps a bystander if I tried. The perks other gyms offer sound nice and all, but I don't do enough at the gym to need all the fancy stuff. Just give me an elliptical and I'm good. I find the staff to be rather pleasant. They don't have anything to sell so they're never in your face. They are pretty efficient managing tanning beds and cleaning supplies. The hours are pretty awesome, 24/5 Monday through Friday, and 7am to 7pm weekends. This is perfect for when I'm having an I-really-shouldn't-have-eaten-that-much-food moment...then I can run to the gym and get the heart pumping and burn those calories! I do wish they had more elliptical machines though. Otherwise, works for me. read more

Not the best planet fitness of the ones I've visited here in Columbus. Way too many cardio machines, especially treadmills and the weight area is arranged weirdly. And there's not enough floor space for stretching etc. I'd probably only come back if I'm in a pinch and need to get a quick jog in. read more

Update: Manager contacted me. He was super nice, sorted the account issues, and provided me with options. Should probably have kept my temper in check and asked for the manager to start with. Lesson learned. They are moving away from using credit cards for recurring billing so if you don't like to debit directly from your checking then look for a deal where you can pay for a full year. On the plus side they have plenty of equipment, fees are reasonable, and location was convenient. But I have had multiple experiences where I have been frustrated by how they do business. Most recently I discovered they hadn't been charging my credit card. I was unable to log in to my account, I tried to change the username and password but their system never sent the necessary email, then I called and they said there must have been a change to my card. I don't remember when I got my new chip enabled card but the number and expire date didn't change and none of my other accounts (i.e. Netflix) were effected. They never sent a notice that there was an issue. Not only wouldn't they take a credit card over the phone but he said they were no longer doing credit cards at all and I would have to set it up to come directly out of my checking account. Beyond stupid and not at all customer friendly. read more

Planet Fitness kind of has it going on. It's cheap. They have a decent variety of machines, plus weight machines and free weights. And when they say a non-judgmental atmosphere, you can really feel it. I've been to gyms where I feel totally gross, and where bodybuilders kind of take over everything, but that doesn't happen at PF--at least, not this one, that I've seen. They offer free personal training and classes even for basic membership, which is cool. I haven't done it yet so I have no idea how it is. But it's nice that it's there if I need it. My only wishes-- -- I wish the TV choices weren't totally awful* -- I wish you could pay extra to use the premium membership services as-desired instead of having to have the premium membership. I don't always want to sit in a massage chair, but y'know, being able to pay five bucks now and then to treat myself would be cool. Maybe this is a thing and I don't know it, but I've never seen the option anywhere. -- I wish there were more cycling machines instead of as many treadmills. I mean, I use the treadmill, but the cycles are always full when I want to use one. *Okay so, a lot of people actually do like these shows, but I'm picky about my TV and they also play bad cable news, which occasionally makes me feel stabby no matter which station it is. read more

Staff is nice. Tanning beds are good but it is so crowded and run down. This location makes me sad because I've seen so many other ones and how up to date they are. This one doesn't even have stairs or a place to stretch without feeling like you're ontop of someone. But it's the only one around me and it does the job. If you feel like driving and need more equipment and options. The Gahanna one is amazing read more

This Planet Fitness has a TON of treadmills. The row of treadmills went on forever! I will say, they did great with the space. It has a unique feel and shape, but it works well. The showers were clean, the employees attentive. I just wish they had more stretching gear. A few mats but no medicine balls, foam rollers, etc. read more
