I've been going here on and off since 2007 and this place has gone downhill since then. When I first started working out here, the employees were all super friendly, now they're all miserable. There was also air conditioning in here at the time, but now there isn't. Sometimes it's hotter inside that it is outside and there is only one fan near the treadmills, and I can barely feel it even when I'm directly under it. There has been a lot of unneeded renovations in the past couple of years, and it has been really inconvenient. I don't care if the gym looks like the Taj Mahal, I just want a functioning bathroom and workout equipment and there have been times there have been neither because of construction. This summer I was hoping to get back in shape but every time I went, they have been closed for one reason or another. The latest excuse is they were replacing the workout equipment, which I do admit they desperately need, especially for the treadmills. I was looking forward to trying out the new equipment, but surprise, surprise, I went today, and it was closed again! The new reason is infuriating--they're not 24/7 anymore! This location is really out of the way for me but being able to go anytime I wanted made it worth it. I usually work out later at night, so I guess I have to find a new gym now. I also don't know what the actual hours are now because the hours on yelp and the hours on the Planet Fitness website are completely different. According to Yelp they are 24 hours Monday through Thursday, but Planet Fitness says they closed at 12 am Monday through Thursday. And according to this website, they're going to be returning to 24/7 in September when the Planet Fitness website says nothing about that. I'm really getting sick of this guessing game, and I plan on joining a new gym soon. read more

They change their hours so they're not 24 hrs even though they're busy. Then they're suppose to open at 6 now and they can't get lock box open for key instead of the manger having on their person. Recently this location remodeled their equipment, ie : their bicycles, in place of 15 old bicycles they replaced with 6 new bikes ,more then half don't work,the ones that do work are never available.. when they are available they don't work properly, their remodeling of this place is terrible... read more

This gym is terrible! The facility is okay; the floor feels like there's not a lot of space but it has all the equipment you'd expect at Planet Fitness. The staff is rude! There are only 2 or 3 staff that are good, the rest act like they don't want to be there and you're an inconvenience. I get that you have a low-paying job but you don't have to be outright rude. I am bound by a contract or I'd cancel and go to a better gym. The hydromassage is nice but seems old, and the only thing I really like about this gym is the total body conditioning red light therapy machine. The tanning beds are old and don't work well (I used them once, I have a tanning membership elsewhere, I just wanted to see how they work). When I first started coming here after taking a break from an injury, I worked out then I walked by the desk and was encouraged to do more. When I responded not yet due to my injury, he said that's not enough. Maybe he was trying to motivate, but it was pretty discouraging and I stopped working out here because I felt like I wasn't doing "enough." Your words are powerful, be aware of what you say. Isn't this supposed to be some type of "everyone belongs here" gym, or was I misled? I don't really care if the gym is $20 a month, I'd rather pay more for more facilities and better staff. read more

If you're in the market for a gym that specializes in frustration and incompetence, look no further than Planet Fitness - It's been nearly two weeks of banging my head against the wall, trying to get some semblance of help from both Danvers and Malden locations. I've called each club more times than I can count, and what do I have to show for it? Nothing but frustration and a sinking feeling of regret. Picture this: You sign up, excited to hit the gym, only to find out their app has a mind of its own and assigns you to the location furthest from your home. No biggie, right? Wrong. When you try to fix it, both Danvers and Malden pass the buck faster than a hot potato. You'd think a simple transfer between two branches wouldn't require a degree in rocket science, but apparently, it's beyond the capabilities of the staff at either location. And don't even get me started on Manager Silvia - her attitude made me feel like I was begging for a favor instead of trying to resolve an issue caused by their own system. After countless calls and zero progress, I reached out to customer service for a glimmer of hope. Spoiler alert: there was none. But wait, it gets better. When I dared to call again for assistance, I got hung up on. And the cherry on top? When I finally mustered up the courage to ask for a refund - because let's face it, they had wasted enough of my time and energy - they had the audacity to tell me they would cancel my membership instead. How's that for customer service? Cancelling my membership for being the problem? I don't think so. But hey, the latest update is that I'll supposedly be getting a refund in a few business days. So, let's wait and see if they can actually deliver on that promise. I'm not holding my breath. Sorry, Planet Fitness, It's my right to get my money back for not even being able to make it through your doors. So, if you enjoy the thrill of being passed around like a hot potato, by all means, give Planet Fitness a try. But if you value your time, sanity, and dignity, do yourself a favor and find a gym that actually knows the meaning of customer service. read more

I had a standard experience compared to the other PF locations I have been too. Staff was friendly and greeted each person when they came in. Equipment seemed relatively clean with a typical spread of stair masters, ellipticals, machines, free weights and etc. parking lot has limited lights for fair warning to people who cannot see so well at night. Front desk staff are miserable. Full of attitude for truly, no reason. Woman at the desk (who clearly doesn't take advantage of her work place perks) acts like she's the gym police. Ok so this is by the the CLEANEST gym I have ever been too. It's amazing how big and spacious it is and it's literally spotless. The women's bathroom is super clean and there's a lot of space for you to get ready. The gym itself is amazing. It's sectioned off really well and there's a lot of equipment. The guys who cleans the place and runs the desk is super duper chill. In New York planet fitness can be run down and not nearly as clean, so when my friends and I popped in to this joint at like 430am we were amazed! read more

The day crew is awesome! Always cleaning and keeping busy. The night crew is horrible. Always out of paper towels or sanitizer spray at the stations, lockers rooms are filthy while 3 employees sit behind the desk on their cell phones and don't even acknowledge you. Sometimes they even put up a sign that says "scan yourself in" while they sit there watching tv on their phones. It's a joke. Come by anytime after 6pm and you'll see. read more

Great place to work out, lots of great machines to choose from. However, I don't like that they are getting rid of the key tags and trying to get people to use the app to check in. They keep telling me that it's less contact, but that just doesn't make any sense to me. How is my holding a tag 3 inches away from the scanner too much contact? There's absolutely no contact in doing that. Plus it's quick and easy. Taking my phone out of my pocket and opening an app seems more of a hassle and more time consuming. Yet they keep pushing it, trying to tell me that it's easier and safer. I think they just want us to download the app for reasons they're not disclosing to us. Scanning the tag is obviously easier and just as safe. Sorry planet fitness, you can't convince me that black is white. There is nothing in my contract stating that I am required to download an app in order to use the gym. If they start pushing that, I'll find another place to workout. Something's fishy here. During this whole Covid pandemic I know that there are guidelines that are supposed to be put in place. Half the membership wears their mask around their chin or under their nose and none of the staff correct this. A lot of the membership doesn't clean the machines before or after use the staff does not correct us. Also, the staff does not clean themselves. $10 a month. Could it be any better? (Well... yes, it could: I could live closer. But that's not the gym's fault.) I've gotten out of shape over the past year and I desperately need to get my body -- and stamina! -- back. I have to admit, I'm embarrassed that within five minutes of being on the elliptical, I'm DRENCHED with sweat. And so I go at night. I've gone around 9pm and after midnight so far... I'm surprised that people are actually still there so late! Since it's such a big place, though, it doesn't really matter. Plenty of cardio machines. And hey, none of you people know me, so what do I care if you see me sweating like a pig? The locker room is... okay. It seems pretty clean, but I looked a little too closely at the paper towel dispensers and noticed they're either really dusty or MOLDY. I don't want to think about it. And maybe it's because I go when it's slow, but I haven't noticed the locker-room-smell yet. I wish I had known that I needed to buy my own lock before my first visit... so hey, readers: you have to buy a lock! At this point, I only plan on using the ellipticals and treadmills, so I don't care much about the quantity/quality of weight machines. I also don't care about the friendliness of the staff. I don't need any questions answered. I don't even need to be greeted. I WANT to be invisible here, so acknowledging my existence is completely unnecessary. Good amount of machines, great women's locker room (always clean), tanning machines get the job done and are included with the Black Card membership (only $20 a/mo) But the staff lack knowledge about the gym; no one could tell me about their "red light" booth and most have a dull/unfriendly attitude. I think Pfit needs to up the hourly wage and attract people with fitness knowledge/background; not just high school kids looking for an after school job. I guess you get what you pay for though. The price is definitely right at $10 a month. And I like the mix of people and ages. Even the atmosphere is pretty good. On the down side the machines are placed too erratically and close together for such a big place. You have to weave through them to find the one your looking for. This makes it annoying for the person that is on one while you are squeezing by. If they would make better use of the space, (which they could easily do) They would get five stars. read more

When it comes to handing out stars, it's not fair to compare Planet Fitness to other gyms. It's mean to be a pretty barebones, no-frills gym that's meant to be reasonably priced (currently $10/mo, $20 for a few extra options) and very accessible (open 24hrs, except weekends). And tha's exactly what Planet Fitness is. Planet Fitness isn't terribly exciting but they represent themselves as "The Judgment Free Zone." So, people who have either never been to a gym, or who've fallen off the gym wagon for quite a while, can feel confident they won't end up a "shrinking violet", or ridiculed, by do-rag wearin', steroid-pumpin', muscle dudes throwing 80lb barbells around while grunting like a herd of Sasquatch. You get the point. Planet Fitness has an abundance of cardio machines. A good supply of universal/nautilus type machines and a "circuit training" room where you do like 15 machines, one-after-the-other, with like 30 seconds rest in between. It's all coordinated by a "traffic light" setup whose red and green lights everyone has to obey... this way everyone gets a good work out and everyone keeps moving. You're in and out in like 30 minutes. The showers and bathrooms have been pretty clean so far. And late night 'tween 12a-5a is pretty empty so you get to share the place with like 6 other people. The front desk will even give you a schedule of how many people there usually are for each time period of the day so you can schedule your workout around the busy hours if you want. Last I checked, Danvers Planet Fitness had tanning. You only get tanning with the $20/mo membership. They sell all the accessories at the front desk, too, like tanning lotions and eye protection. There's also t-shirts, caps, water bottles, drinks and cheap headphones so you can listen to the TVs in case you forgot yours. Parking is pretty generous and the area is pretty safe. It's all very convenient to route 114 and route 1 so you can reach it quickly from most places within a 3-5 mile radius. Note: Unless you pay in advance, you need a credit card or your checking account information when joining. Now, go... what are you waiting for? Summer's almost here! read more

Love this gym. I can go there and put on the ipod, focus on working out, and not have to worry about jogging down the street and getting whistled and yelled at by random dudes in cars! No muscle heads or people grunting and groaning and everyone kinda just does their own thing. For $19.99/month you get free tanning, free guests, and use of any other PF location. I moved to the area 6 months ago and joined this location, biggest mistake, I'm a pretty easy person but the workers at this location piss me off, beyond ignorant for simple issues. I will be switching to the Dracut location closet to work where they are beyond pleasant and helpful. read more

First, let me say the staff that physically work there are AWESOME! Really and truly. The people responsible for spending money to maintain the gym (its a corporate establishment) are NOT AWESOME. 1. Were promised WI-Fi not gonna happen. 2. I would be shocked if the day ever came where more than 50% of the cardio equipment had audio that worked clearly for the television. 3. They should probably just permanently hang an "out of order" sign above the water fountains. While I'm ranting... For the monthly fee, it can not be beat! I have been working near this gym on a temporary project, so I needed a gym for one month. No big annual fees here, so a one month membership was perfect. I refuse to pay more then 10$ a month for a gym membership so even though I gave 3 stars im sticking with PF. There are definitely meatheads that frequent the place but you can't really go anywere these days without running into one. It's pretty big, lots of machines, and the ladies locker room is decent. The bad side of PF is the dollar sign up deals. I admit I signed up for one dollar, but becuase they do it so often and it's so cheap, EVERYONE signs up. The place is super crowded when this promotion is going on. I've actually had to wait for a treadmill numerous times. I know others who go to PF's in different locations and they have said the same. Eventually the crowd dies down, but be prepared to wait for machines when these promotions are going on. read more

I've been a member for awhile now. It is a clean gym, and it is a typical Planet fitness. I am writing this review because this morning I showed up to w/o at 4am to find the locker rooms closed for renovation. I'm not saying they don't have the right to improve their facilities, and that is appreciated. However, why they did not put out advances notice is beyond me. Why they are choosing to do this construction now that the morning temps are in twenties is especially baffling. Why wouldn't this work been scheduled during the typically slower summer months? They now expect us to get sweaty, and then go out into the freezing cold to trailers in the parking lot? Completely ridiculous execution, and that is why the regular morning membership all showed up, and got back into their cars and left. I am now looking into other gyms in the area. read more

It's a pretty solid gym - I moved to Mass. from Ohio, and was just looking for an easily accessible place to work out and perhaps meet some people. The pro's... 1. the no commitment clause on the membership. Its good to know I can cancel whenever I might need to, AND the cost is only ten dollars/ month. 2. The gym itself is wide open - plenty of space to walk around and not feel crowded by other members. Lots of light and mirrors. 3. Plenty of equipment for different routines (e.g. cardio, nautilus, freeweight, movement, stretching). 4. Finally the location great; not buried in the middle of a suburb, or in a heavily trafficked area. As for the con's... they somewhat outweigh the pro's, but they also just kind of personal pet peeves. 1. They could use better music. I know its a 'judgment free' zone and they don't want to play music that sounds too aggressive or intimidating, but I KNOW the staff is in touch with their clientele and know what radio stations might be preferred over what they have. 2. While the place is never overly crowded, its always occupied with patrons - there could be more attention paid to the wiping down of equipment after use. I would say people wipe down a bench or a seat back about 3 to 5% of the time in an 8 hour period. I'm not a freak about germs, but hey - swine flu is real, eventually you're gonna catch something. 3. Friendliness. I'm probably a little biased because I'm from the midwest, but the only time the staff talks to me is when I'm walking in or out the door. Aside from that they just stand at the counter and check people in, clean mirrors and the bathroom during slow hours. The ONLY time they'll come over to talk to you is if you're violating a rule (e.g. dropping/clanking weights, grunting). Sometimes I need spot on a bench press, it would be cool if one of the dudes working would just offer up some assistance. Is it a liability for them to do so? Do they not feel comfortable? Do I just have walk up to the desk and ask? Who knows. I've recommended this gym to a lot of my friends in the area. I work out frequently and never really worry about having a set schedule due to the way in which Planet Fitness operates. It is though a franchise... I've only ever been to this location, and can't say if others would operate exactly like this one. read more

Planet Fitness Danvers is a good value, without all the frills of some of the more expensive clubs in the area. The only area that I see for improvement is the staff attentiveness/friendliness. Having been a member of other clubs, I take notice of how the staff greets me or at least acknowledges me when I enter. Often the manager and some of the employees do not even look you in the eye. They act as if you are unimportant and go about doing their computer tasks or just talking to each other. I think it would add some value if the manager took interest in his guests, and also encouraged his staff to do the same. read more

Sorry, but you do have to compare this to other gyms. At least with cleanliness. That locker room was one of the most disgusting I've seen. Always just smelled awful. I honestly don't recall ever seeing it being cleaned up. The gym I currently go to I know is cleaned twice a day. And as for the 'no judgement zone' or worrying about muscleheads, PF had plenty of those types. Maybe they can't let out a grunt or drop weights (and who really does that these days anyway?), but there were always plenty of 'Situation' types admiring themselves in the mirror when you walk in, glaring at you. In fact, I think the low price entices more meatheads to go there. I get the whole mantra of the place, but people seem to think that the 'no judgement' slogan and all that keep the riff raff away. I found that paying a bit more for a good gym gets you in a decent place where people are there to get their stuff done, so there's no time to 'judge'. This place isn't all bad. If you're just down for some cardio, then this is a great place for you. Plenty of cardio machines open at all times. This is great in the winter when it's too raw to get outside. Never a wait, either. Plenty of area to stretch, too. Free weight area is always too crowded and they changed the floor to nautilus machines some time ago, so almost all of the benches are gone. That's not a good thing. No jump ropes, resistance bands, or even medicine balls. That's pretty basic stuff. So, to me, this is a gym starter kit. Fine if you just want to hop on a cardio machine, but if you're looking to really get fit you gotta move on. read more

You can't clean and run the front desk at the same time. Pretty good gym for $10 bucks/mo. I mainly use cardio equip, bout 4 days a week. 12 TV's with headphone jacks in cardio equip. Always find a machine open, except rarely weekdays 5:30-6:30 treadmills 99% full. Helpful/friendly staff, no real machismo attitude, good for someone with a busy work sched (24/7). Signup process took couple minutes, I've cancelled/resigned up a couple times, no complaints. Cheers read more

When I signed up they told me "I can cancel at any time before the middle of the month, if I cancel after then I would have to pay for that month". First I understand that this is a franchise gym. Paying 19.99/month to go to any PF is a pretty good deal. However, today was the icing on the cake... Today, I was working out at the gym (7:15AM) when I noticed a gentleman looking like a plumber with a handyman bag was walking towards the women's locker room. I jumped off the treadmill to inquire about the facilities being out of order because I was working out before work. I would need a shower. I asked the PF employee if I would be able to use the shower. In a loud raised tone (in front of several gym members) said " YES YOU CAN USE THE SHOWER! The SHOWER WILL BE TURNED OFF TOMORROW. It's JUST A TOLIET!!" I just replied with an OK. - I cleaned off my machine and headed to the locker room. Disclaimer: Poor plumber- he was just trying to get his task completed. For some reason, PF thought it was a good idea to have a male plumber in a women's locker room during prime time of showers to fix a toilet. There was no sewerage or water flowing from the toilet and there were 2 others in use. It felt extremely uncomfortable to take a shower and run from the shower to the changing room with a plumber working on the toilet and then the sink. Not to mention being embarrassed by the PF employee. Poor facilities management. Reasons why this is not that great of a PF: #1 the facility is never 100% functioning. Something is always "out of order" #2 the water bottle bubbler- the crust on that thing should be a science project. #3 Mentioned a great idea to the Site Manager- he had zero customer service skills. This was a text alert for those who would sign in to it when the showers etc. would be out of order. If you don't go to the gym every day how would you know that there would be no hot water or all the showers would be out of service. Also, when the parking lot was being paved and my car almost got roped in. It's communication and in today's day and age, a text alert system would be a great idea.
