Beware of Planet Fitness' shady billing practices! I was charged over $120 for less than 2 months and my first month was only $1 to join Please share!!!! I signed up for a membership on January 22, thinking I was joining a gym with fair and transparent policies. Instead, I got hit with unexpected fees and zero communication. On February 17, they attempted to charge my primary payment method, which didn't go through. Instead of simply charging my secondary payment method (which they have on file!), they slapped me with a $20 late fee and then charged my backup payment anyway. No email, no call, no notification--just an extra fee with no explanation. Then, two weeks later, they charged me a $50 annual fee, plus another $20 late fee--again, without any notice! And despite my concerns, they refused to remove the second late fee, even though they had no valid reason for it. Planet Fitness' billing system is ridiculous. If you have two forms of payment on file, why not just charge the second one before adding a late fee? It's clear they care more about squeezing extra fees out of people than actually providing fair service. If you're considering joining, DON'T...beware of their deceptive billing practices! I was paying for a membership for my son until he moved out of state for school. When I tried to cancel, I was told that I could send an email requesting the cancellation. I did so in August 2022. It is now April 2023 and I'm still being charged. I've called several times and am always told I need to speak with a manager. I finally speak with someone that told me to hold on so she could talk to her manager and I was hung up on and now no one is answering the phone. Horrible way to do business. read more

The staff is very apathetic; they seem bothered to acknowledge your presence. The hours are never posted for holidays.

Never had a problem with this place until recently. My wife and I had our accounts frozen because we're still not comfortable going to the gym yet. But at the beginning of this week, this Planet Fitness decided to withdraw the funds anyway, causing an overdraft not once but twice. After trying to get some kind of answers from their management, they told us that our bank should refund the overdraft fees and they weren't responsible. Why should the bank refund the money when it was clearly Planet Fitnesses mistake. We will be leaving this establishment as soon as our contract is up. They clearly are running that place ineptly and their customer service flat out sucks. read more

Planet Fitness - Gyms Near Me - Derby, Connecticut

I'm absolutely appalled by the way Plant Fitness treated me. I never received any notification about my gym opening back up, had already been charged twice while they were closed (they claimed I was only charged once), and then only found out they reopened when I was charged again. So (2)3 charges, without even being able to access the gym and they told me it was my fault for not knowing and refused to give me a refund. Not only that but during the first conversation I had with them I was told there's nothing they can do and to contact an email address to their billing company - which I did and I got an email back saying they blocked me... The entire phone call with the manager he blamed me for not knowing the gym was open, accused me of lying about not receiving any email, and told me "I don't care, its not my problem" and when I stated its not MY fault I'm being charged for a service I can't even use he told me to "blame the state". He seemed more concerned in his protecting his profits than showing any kind of civility during a health crisis. His attitude was disgusting, which makes me wonder what other gross negligence is occurring in this establishment during these frightening times. I can't believe how badly I was talked down to and the fact that I was SCAMMED out of what little money I have left. Had this of been handled more professionally I wouldn't of been as upset about this situation. Unfortunately, it wasn't and I will no longer be coming back to this gym. read more

If you only want to tan and do cardio, it's perfect. Otherwise, if you're serious about fitness goals and training to make progress, this is not the club for that. There are no bars over 60lbs, no free benches or free squats. They peddle pizza and bagels in their club!! They make up their "judgment free" rules when it suits their fancy. I was going to this "club" 4-5 days per week, for months, using jump ropes, training masks and other fitness aides and this clown that works there tells me the club doesn't permit it. Of course there is nothing stated in the contract about that. Additionally there are snotty bitches with no customer service skills that work the front desk. If you can handle rudes bitches, ignorant staff and too many members hanging out in the weight area bullshitting and playing on their phones, then $10/month isn't a bad deal. First time at the Derby location. What a beautiful gym!! Clean and roomy. But i did not feel welcome or comfortable at all. The girl at the front desk didnt lift her head or say a word. There was a nice young man who was cordial and gave me directions as to where things were. I am all for everyone's choice in music but at 7:00 am swearing gangster rap on full blast is not for me. Put my ear buds in with noise reduction and left after 30 minutes :( read more

BUYER BEWARE! This company is there to suck your money! It costs 58 dollars to cancel membership and automatically renews for 39.99 plus your next monthly fee of 22 dollars so they get you coming and going. No refunds so I will report them to BBB. Customer service at this center is hideous and the person who answers the phone has a nasty mouth. New Haven was at least nice and professional when I called to complain. The customer is always wrong here. Don't bother. Find another gym that bills professionally - it should even be legal! AND NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR DEBIT CARD! read more

Planet Fitness is an awesome idea for a gym. They have a "no judgement zone" policy that keeps people coming back in the comfort of who they are, but also in the knowledge of who they can become. This specific gym: Offers a decent blend of free-weights, and workout machines to help build general and specific muscles. (I would personally prefer more free-weights than what they offer) Has a specific room dedicated to a quick workout circuit. As long as the directions are followed the workout should last only 30 minutes. Has a large quantity of treadmills, but depending on the time of day many could already be in use. It's up to the customer to find the best time to go. Has a very clean appearance in all areas of the building, including the locker rooms, bathrooms, and showers. Since it's a cheaper price per month, it doesn't have any rooms dedicated to a swimming pool, basketball court, racquetball... Etc. BUT, it's an excellent gym for the price!! For the $10 a month that I'm paying, it's worth 4 stars!! read more

Well it's been over a year going to PF in Derby. Support staff is still very good. However one of the managers is one of those rambunctious kids who is on a power trip and flexes his control. Not very customer service oriented. Needs a better mentor to set an example of how to interact with clientele. Still no changes to or adding of additional equipment. Place is clean and kept up well. Other gym members are decent and abundant. Not much of an issue getting on equipment, usually no wait time. Just not the same vibe as one gets at either the edge or crunch. I prefer the vibe at those locations better, but Im not there for socializing. For the $, it's a decent deal. PF in Derby is new. Good job getting up and running. Good staff, very cordial and accommodating. Clean, well organized. Decent patrons. No juice heads or obnoxious lifters. Equipment all new. Areas to consider; Too many treadmills and repetitive machines. Compared to other competition, they need to offer some more diversified machines. Plenty of space and repetitive machines to swop out. Should also offer a bigger variety of beverages. Adding a cooler is no cost and would offer guests better options while adding a stronger profit center for PF. Overall they get a good rating. A few machines they should consider to add: Diverging Lat Pulldown, or Precor Icarian Pulldown, Pec Fly, Precor Icarian Chest, a pull up bar. read more

Unfortunately, there is no scale here unlike all other gyms. No response after a number of people put in the scale request. Equipment is great, hours are good, facility has roomy space and temperature is most comfortable for workouts. Staff should periodically monitor the 2 rooms off main floor as some people take off masks for exercising while in these 2 rooms. All staff should put away bench equipment by hand weights in tape marked areas at end of every night to adhere to 6ft social distancing. read more

This fitness center has polite professional staff, well maintained equipment and a wonderful atmosphere. To me it's a home away from home. The temperature is well maintained and I always feel more motivated when I come to this particular gym. I have to reiterate, the staff are friendly and always willing to assist when needed. I've trained at many fitness centers and this is my personal favorite. Some of the negative reviews on here sound really shoddy, as though they were coming from folks with some alterior motive. read more

I like this gym, but I would like it a lot more if there weren't bullies with attitude problems usurping the 30-minute circuit machines almost every single time I try to use that room. I don't want to be a tattle tale, but I sure wish the staff would hang out in that little room periodically and enforce the rules. I can't tell you how many times I feared someone was going to take a swing at me for just *politely* asking them to give up a machine they've been hogging. There have been words exchanged just because I have politely asked people to move on several occasions. No, dozens of occasions. I'm afraid there is going to be a throw-down one day because some people just care that little about anyone besides themself. The rules are clear but are small and on one wall. They should be written large and within the view of every single machine on that room. Staff should monitor the room and step in and not make people have to get in there daily confrontations predicaments. Every friend I know who goes to this gym had this same complaint. Every. Single. The customer service here is absolutely awful. I went in 3 times trying to sign up for the teen challenge. Where teens ages 15-18 years old can sign up for FREE. I asked the young lady at the front if I could sign up if I am 18 and my birthday is in a few weeks, she said YES. However, she said I needed to wait until the actual day it started to sign up and I asked her if I needed any other information to bring in to sign up and she said NO. I returned the day it began to sign up and she said with a nasty attitude I needed a checking account number to sign up, which I did not have at the moment because she said I did not need one before. I called another facility and they said that I did not need a checking account number to sign up under the teen challenge. I returned the 3rd time to sign up and she denied me to sign up because my birthday is in a few weeks. I told her I have been here 3 times and spoken to her 3 times about this and now she's denying me? She was extremely rude the way she was talking back to me. I will never recommend this location to anyone due to her awful customer service. read more

I go here just to do cardio. Sometimes I lift but dumbells only go up to 75lbs. But that's ok, I go to the Edge to lift heavy. But they have enough weights and machines to maintain. It is a convenient gym to do cardiovascular on the treadmill, bike, stair master and elliptical. They even have a neat circuit room. Everything is clean but they need to get a scale and lysol for the bathroom. Since this location has open, I have been noticing more muscle heads or younger kids that hold up the equipment talking to friends. Or claiming multiple machines by hanging clothing on a cable, water bottle on a bench while hes on a 3rd machine talking to a friend while listening to his beats with his hat on crooked, rocking a wife beater.. Struttin around dancing with his ILS. Smh The gym is busy and your screwing up my work out. This is a no, no at most gyms. Cant claim multiple machines and run your own personal circuit during peak hours. The workers just ignore the behavior. This is a recipe for confrontation the judgement free zone. But if I grunt once and they are all over me. Lol read more

I went to Planet Fitness for the first time with a friend that has a black card membership. It was a great workout environment with a huge selection of machines and other equipment. I was surprised with the tanning and massage rooms along with bringing friends that are included with the black card. For the cheap price and location, I plan to join this gym very soon. read more
