Verdict: Big gym. Small spaces. Many machines. Many members. Disclosure: This review is based on their trial day and in comparison with other nearby gyms. I can handle the crowded atmosphere and limited space by the free weights. That comes with the price point and should be expected. The big turnoffs for me were the smells and things seeming unclean. Judgement free zone when you're talking about people's fitness (unless you get the infamous "Lunk Alarm"). Cleanliness doesn't get a pass. The gym had the essence of many people on the move. Only about half the members were wiping down the equipment when they were done. Saw someone getting sick in the bathroom when I went to wash my hands. I know these things aren't directly caused or controlled by the Planet Fitness or the staff but they are a result of the business model and the environment. On the positive side, they have lots of treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals. You'll probably find one of those open anytime. The rest is hit or miss at a peak hour but you'll have options. The best part of Planet Fitness is the price. You can exercise here for less than the competition; except the outdoors. read more

I started at this gym a couple months ago and it is one of the nicest gym's I have been in. The staff is friendly, it is well maintained and clean. I do wish that is was slightly bigger as it can get really crowded during busy hours. It would also be nice if they had more of an area for stretching/mat work. read more

I still go here. I'm getting a bit frustrated. This is not a "no judgment zone" place as they love to advertise. Not for this club, but we are in shape, are bodybuilders, and have had the lunk alarm go off because we were profiled. We don't make noise, grunt, etc, just exist. We get judged. Wonderful gym! The Planet Fitness franchise is a great deal in general, and this location in particular is really exceptional. Well taken care of, machines kept clean, friendly staff. I love the hydromassage beds and massage chairs too! read more

Charley was absolutely amazing and beyond helpful. He went out of his way to help my mom and myself, and the current situation that we are dealing with. My mom has stage four cancer and opened an account with friends well over a year possibly two years ago and really never went. So today I called and spoke with Charlie to see if we could cancel the membership since she is not going to be able to use it anymore. He asked that I send him an email which I did and within 10 minutes I had a response and the response said not only did they cancel the account but they refunded the entire amount that she did not use but was billed for per her contract. I really feel like they went above and beyond especially because the only reason I called today was to ask to cancel the account. I was not looking for a refund of any kind. I would definitely recommend using planet fitness on Granite run if you're looking for a gym that fits your needs. It's great that it's a lot larger than most other planet fitness that I've been too. Has heavier weights and feels more like a work out gym rather than a cardio gym. Huge down side is the bathroom. Smells like diarrhea 100% of the time and appears never to be cleaned. I've been looking at the same dust boot print for a few weeks now. read more

Became a member here a while back, slowly began to talk to all that worked here at the facility, began to realize how much of a tight knit group of people that there are working there. I stopped going to Planet Fitness many months ago, but of course they kept charging my card. I was actually paying for two memberships - my own and my girlfriend's. They continued to charge me for both for a while, then for only one, and now it turns out they sent the one they stopped charging to collections. Both accounts were being paid for by the same card, and I did not request any changes, so I can see no reason one charge would go through while the other would not. When I did call and brought this to their attention, they demanded payment in full of before pulling the account out of collections, which is apparently managed by a third-party called ABC something (original, isn't it?). They also claimed they were unable to contact me as I had moved and the email address they had was no longer valid. Strange, since this ABC company was easily able to contact me via text and phone call... I guess they don't talk to each other very much. I did contact PF's corporate office and got a BS form-letter response about the clubs being privately owned yada-yada-yada... That's good CYA, except it's their name on the clubs, and their image in play. Bottom line is the credit card they had on file has since expired and I'll be very happy to see them take legal action. In the meantime, I will be disputing the charges on the grounds summarized above and more concisely on the grounds that they are idiots. Stay away from this place. read more

I've been to 3 PF locations and they've all been great. Huge facility. For those who are in between this location and the one in Ephrata, I would personally recommend this one. Clean, lots of equipment so you never have to wait for anything. Staff is all very friendly. I went to management once about a membership issue (something very specific to me) and they helped me out right away, no problems. read more

WIFI IS NON EXISTENT. Gym is fine other than that and I never have to wait for any of the cardio equipment, but I specifically chose this gym for having all of that AND WIFI and they were quick to mention they had it all during the sales pitch. BUT as soon as you join, when you go to the front desk to ask why you can't join the network or if maybe you have wrong password, the employees actually tell you the wifi is and I quote A: Hit or miss B: Doesn't always work C: The owner is considering switching providers ( which means they know it sucks). D: let me unplug and plug back in the router and then maybe it will work ( which it did and is the only time I have ever been able to use it). Bottom line: they are charging or advertising a service they don't provide and it is one of the services that sets them apart other than simply being the cheapest. I don't have high expectations for ten dollars a month, but please provide what you sell !!!! Cheap and Wifi is what make this different from Universal ( Has wifi but not cheap) and LA fitness ( not as cheap and no wifi but they do have a pool and racquetball and fifty more different types of specialty equipment for twenty bucks more) I will gladly change this review if the situation changes, but I will also try to update this if the situation doesn't change as well. read more

Maintenance of machines is poor. Maintenance person comes in, walks on a treadmill for a little, walks up and down the aisles and that's it. Actually told me not to use the elliptical I was on because it was too old! Audio boxes on machines for TVs have poor connections so headphones don't work. read more

I am currently a member of the new, very large Planet Fitness in Port Jervis, NY. When traveling back to my hometown (in and around Reading, PA), I often use the PF locations in Allentown, Reading, and Ephrata. The Carerra Drive location near Lancaster is only 6 miles from my father's house, but is an absolute disaster of a gym. I believe they "inherited" the old and terribly worn-out Cybex equipment from the Gold's Gym that use to be at that location. After years of regular workouts, I have to modify each of my machine weight settings by 5-50lb to match what I currently use back home and at the other PFs. On the leg adduction or abduction machine, I needed to change the weight by approximately 100lbs! Most all of the machine weights are incorrectly calibrated. Including PF and Gold's Gym, I have been to dozens of gyms around the US while traveling and never was there a location that did not have at least a few LifeFitness cycles (even if their machines were Cybex). I personally own a LifeCycle and have used them for over 20 years. Cybex bikes are impossible to figure out. This location ranks on my list of the 3 worse gyms that I have been to in the last 25 years. I'll gladly drive the extra 10 miles to the Ephrata PF instead.... read more
