Planet fitness overall is meant to be an entry point gym for a lot of people: and while they do expect some people to fail($10 people who don't show up makes up what the members who do pay so they don't have to pay more) and those who really stick to it or have different goals will likely move on at some point(especially if they have kids or want nicer amenities like a sauna, which I'm not gonna lie would be killer) so I'm reviewing this gym as what it is: a starting point. I signed up for the black club membership and have been going for a little bit. The space is always clean, they have people clean equipment between use, and people who at other gyms may be inclined to harass women due to dude bro culture are more likely to think twice(aka they WILL KICK THEM OUT ASAP) Staff will show you how to use any machine if you ask, so the reviews on guests who are annoyed they can't say anything are unwarranted anyway(we appreciate it, but I'd rather not have to talk to most people at 5 am) 30 min circuit isn't often used as it's supposed to be but I'm not complaining: people are typically really courteous about it and are just taking a bit longer than recommended(which means they're getting 2/3 sets in . AWESOME!) If machines are being used all the time: it's probably cuz you're going at rush hour in the evening. I get not everyone wants to get up early but tbh it's easily avoidable. Total body enhancement machine is great: I use it for the light and to warm up and typically feel great after. Hydro massage after a workout is a MUST for recovery. Overall, will I use this gym forever? Probably not. But it's great for me to build my confidence and base skills again for a year or so before I move on. If you're thinking of starting your fitness journey here: just do it. read more

I have been a member here for several years, and unfortunately my experience has gone downhill significantly. The incident that finally pushed me to write this review happened yesterday. My husband and I came in together to work out. I was fumbling with my phone trying to pull up my barcode, so my husband scanned me in. He accidentally selected our daughter Tess's name instead of mine. I immediately went to the restroom before starting my workout. When I came out of the stall, a staff member was standing there waiting for me. She asked my name, and when I explained that my husband had accidentally selected our daughter's name but that I had my own active membership, she told me I needed to come to the front desk immediately. I told her several times that I had my membership on my phone and could show her. Before going to the desk, I simply asked if I could wash my hands first since I had just used the restroom. She refused and told me, "You need to come to the front desk right now," and then added, "You know I can kick you out of here, right?" I understand verifying memberships, but refusing to allow someone to wash their hands after using the restroom and immediately threatening to throw them out was unnecessary, embarrassing, and incredibly rude. Also, if there is an issue with someone's membership, maybe don't confront them while they're walking out of a bathroom stall. At the very least, wait until they have left the locker room. Being approached in the restroom and then denied the opportunity to wash my hands before being marched to the front desk was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and completely unnecessary. This isn't an isolated issue. Over the last several months, I've noticed a major shift in how members are treated. Staff seem increasingly focused on policing memberships to the point that interactions often feel accusatory rather than welcoming. I've also become increasingly frustrated with the amenities included in my membership. I pay for the higher-tier membership that includes things like massage chairs and tanning, yet these features frequently don't work or are "under maintenance" for weeks at a time. There was also a recent incident where I was told I could not work out until I allowed staff to take my membership photo. While I understand needing photos for identification purposes, refusing to allow a paying member to exercise until a picture was taken felt excessive and unnecessary. At this point, walking into the gym feels less like going to work out and more like trying to clear airport security. I understand verifying memberships, but I don't appreciate feeling like I'm automatically viewed as a criminal or someone trying to sneak in every time I walk through the door. I've been a paying member for years. A little common sense and courtesy would go a long way. Between the constant equipment issues, amenities being unavailable, and the increasingly rude and confrontational attitude from staff, I'm seriously considering taking my membership elsewhere. read more

I have been a member of this gym for years now and I truly loved everything about it. Until they recently got a new manager. Diante has actually ruined this gym for me. I am the friendliest person anyone could ever meet, yet anytime I would have to visit the front desk when he was there he would just be cold as ice and honestly just very rude. It really bothered me at first until one day in the locker room I heard two women speaking about him and about their negative experiences interacting with him. But as I said I really loved this location and everything about planet fitness so I had my heart set on making it work. Every time I would go in I would go out of my way to say hello and smile at him. When I tell you this man would not even smile back at me once. I can't imagine why he dislikes me so much. I've never had an enemy in my life. But apparently from some of these other reviews I'm reading that is just his level of customer service. And it's poor. I really urge the owners to put him through further training or even better yet replace him. Because I guarantee you he's going to keep making this gym lose money with his air of superiority and rudeness. read more

One of the better gyms around. Constantly cleaning and very friendly service. The Cedar Park location is newer but was ruined quickly by MANY stinky people not wearing deodorant or exhibiting any level of personal hygiene. This Leander location while a little older is a great layout, has responsive employees that are on top of things, and for the most part respectful guests that use deodorant, don't monopolize 3 sets of dumbbells, and a good amount of attractive & fit members that go to get in a good workout and go on with their day. I was working out at the gym and the person behind me was having a very loud cell phone conversation. There is a sign clearly posted saying "cell phon conversations in the lobby only." I told the staff member on duty about it and his response was, "you talk to him." He refused to do anything about it. Later I was in the men's locker room and some people weee filming on their cell phones. I had already learned that there was no point in saying anything to the staff member about it, but I felt I did not have privacy in the locker room. Bad experience. read more

Excellent gym for a very good value. Equipment is new and well-maintained, plus the users are consistent about cleaning machines after use. If you're part of their 'Black Card' club you get a couple extra goodies like the use of shiatsu massage and water-massage chairs. Highly recommended! read more

I just got my membership a couple weeks ago and I'm already ready to cancel it. The problem at the Leander Texas gym is too many people are just sitting at the machines texting not working out when others are trying to workout. The bathrooms are dirty every time I go. The toilets have pee all over the seats. I can imagine how bad it is when it is busy. If they had a policy that stated you must be working out when at a machine and move off it in between sets to allow others to work through things might be a little better. I can understand if it's not that busy and no one is waiting to use the machine. I watched somebody use the leg extension machine then sit there for 10 min. And when I asked him if I can work though he said I'm working and continued to text for 3 more minutes then do another set. Then he did the same thing when someone else asked to work through. As for the restrooms, if the employees would actually pay attention and walk the floor and check the restrooms every hour things might be a little cleaner. read more

I went as a guest of a neighbor who has a membership. At the check in counter the workers insist that I have to load the Planet Fitness app onto my phone in order to sign waiver forms. No way. I am happy to sign a hard copy waiver but I'm not going to give them access to my phone just to be a guest that day. They said it was the only way. I have had gym memberships for over 40 years now. This company lost a potential new/transfer customer. I will stay where I'm at. Quit trying to invade my phone/personal data. read more

This is both a review of Planet Fitness and some of its members. So the first part of this is on Planet Fitness itself. The selection of gym equipment is ok, there is not enough of them. For example there is 1 leg press machine (possibly the most popular machine in the gym) it is always occupied. Of the equipment that they do have the padding feels like marble slab covered in pleather. I don't expect a soft mattress when I use a piece of equipment, but on the same note I would want something with a little give when I use it. The leg machines (laying down and leg extension) are the worst. I have since cancelled my membership before even writing this post, and in all honesty it has nothing to do with the machines I mentioned above. It has to do with the members more than anything, and not in the way you might think. What bugged me the most is watching the people in the gym doing the exercises wrong and there is no one there to correct them. E.g. locking your knees on the leg press machine. Granted I have seen this very same thing at other gyms, but to a much lesser degree I have seen at Planet Fitness. I have been a member of many other gyms but by and far Planet Fitness is the worst I have seen so far. I hate to see people hurt themselves, and I have helped a few people at many other gyms and most are grateful. However with Planet Fitness "Judgement Free Zone" policy I did not want to point out some of the errors I see other members making for fear of being called out for it. This may seem like I am coming across as a know it all, and by no means am I a expert, but I do recognize when someone is about the hurt themselves. I would hope someone would correct me if they see that I am doing something that could allow me to injure myself. The leg machine is just one example of the things I saw at this gym. read more

So happy to have found this location! It's new only a year old! They are open 24/7.You can choose a low down payment and no contract they also have a military discount where I had no down payment! They have all the machines you can ask for my only downside is no childcare but that's ok,If you sign up for the black card membership you get tanning,And hydro massage chairs which are amazing! They use power of water to massage your back.Also I love that this location is in a shopping center with lots of Parking and next to Chik fila lol.Plus they have exercise classes you can do.With Covid they are taking every precaution too and cleaning.Also this location has locks so you don't have to bring your own.Overall convenience,and price and hours is what sold us.I still love lifetime for the family friendly atmosphere and child care and pools but it's pricey.So for now I'm coming here until it's safe to take my child to Lifetime.Love this location and the people are so helpful! Congrats Planet Fitness - You guys really get it! I had to quit working out at Gold's Gym because they are totally clueless about keeping people safe during this Covid-19 Pandemic. They just let people pull off their masks and even not wear one at all! SERIOUSLY! YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND! I thought I would give you my assessment of Planet Fitness after I've worked out there now a couple of times now. I've not seen any people walk around without masks (with or without) some made-up medical exemption. NONE HAVE. In fact, the only person I noticed with his mask off for a moment was someone taking it off to get a drink and catch his breath, but he put it right back on. This is totally -TOTALLY - different than Golds Gym. At GOLDS I even tried to go in on off hours during the period that they clean btw 1-2 pm, and still saw half the people had their masks pulled down while working out. I suggest EVERYONE THINKING ABOUT GOLDS GYM TO THINK AGAIN! There is a real difference between Golds and Planet Fitness. Actually, there are many difference that will prove that Planet Fitness is far superior! Bottom line is that I feel much, much safer at Planet Fitness. They clean all day long. Every time I go in someone is wiping a machine down and not just one hour a day. ALL DAY LONG... I'm serious. I am totally impressed - I mean it. The manager did say that they had some people complain about the mask order, but Planet Fitness is strict about it and when the people got angry and told the manager they would just go to Gold's where they weren't so strict - it made me wonder... REALLY - that's what they said... GOLD HAS THAT REPUTATION. Planet Fitness made it easy for me because they don't have contracts and my new membership is a month to month fee where I can quit a week in advance if I have to - or skip a month with a freeze. I had always paid in advance for my membership at Golds, because I had been a regular for over 20 years. It's a shame GOLD's has gotten so greedy, selfish, uncaring about its members, and nasty to the point of calling me a liar even though I have pictures to prove my case of half the people not wearing masks. To this point, I guess for my own safety, it was meant to be. I think I will be very happy with Planet Fitness. They aren't the biggest facility I've worked out in, and they don't have all the bells and whistles. But, I don't need a dirty pool anyhow, and they have the cleanest facility I've ever been in... I've managed health clubs and worked in some myself, so I think I know better than most. If you join because of my review, please let the person you sign up with at the front desk know my name, so I can get some bonus points on products and other things. Absolute nightmare! They are easily available to set up the account & never available again to resolve any issue. I emailed & called over 50 times total to try to correct issues with the way they signed our family up & they never resolved it. Later after Covid they kept charging us even though we could not go because we don't want Covid. Then we moved to Florida & again they NEVER answer the phone or emails & give no way to cancel. Now the year after being billed for eight months of not being able to use the Gym at all, they continue to charge us even after the year of the contract is up. Have spent hours on hold & nobody ever answers the phone or emails. They don't seem to care about the safety of our family and are charging us a ridiculous amount to cancel our membership. I urge you to waive your cancellation fees during the Covid outbreak so members at risk can be safe without penalty. I work in healthcare and know many responsible companies are doing the right thing for their customers. You will get these members back after a vaccination is released so do the right thing for your members safety. Providing extra cleaning stations and spacing does not help in a gym atmosphere when people are breathing heavily without a mask. Gyms are one of the top at risk areas for infection. read more

Seems like asking people to put their mask on has helped. Wish they were interested in changing some of the equipment out. They have three back machines two of which nobody uses. Probably because they hurt ( at least me ) to use them. And the area with the yellow Jungle gym for lack of a better word that is never used except for people doing floor work and the weight machine that I rarely get to use because it's always occupied. I love going to PF! It's easy to schedule time to go there being open 24/7. The equipment is easy to use and there are pictures to tell you how to use the equipment on each one. On average the people at the front desk are always pleasant and helpful. They make the visit for me! read more

They make it nearly impossible to cancel, continue charging you long after you follow their ridiculous policies to cancel & string you along advising they will refund the improper charges - until it is too late to be able to dispute them. I spent far more time trying to cancel than I was ever able to use the gym, because they could care less about Covid safety & they have extremely bad management in Leander, TX as well as unhelpful corporate waste of time pretend false assistance. They put on the appearance, but in Leander as well as the Corporation in general, they actually only care about Covid costing them customers, but not at all care about preventing Covid or about not charging you when you can not use the services - even when they were closed for Covid last March. They never answer the phone unless you want to sign up. After that they will not answer the phone or emails to help with anything. Stay away it is so not worth it! read more
