I had one of the worst experiences at this Anytime Fitness location. They called me asking if I had let someone in since no staff was available. I understand that's against the rules, and I immediately apologized and explained the situation. I even said, "If it's that big of a deal, just charge me the $50," considering my membership is only $25 a month. The staff member told me it was just a warning, so I thought the matter was resolved. The next time I came to work out, my door code suddenly didn't work. No call, no email, no explanation--just locked out after being told it was "only a warning." That is not good customer service. If you say something, stand by your word. I've paid my fees, traveled internationally, and used other Anytime Fitness gyms without a single issue--even in Japan. This has been by far the worst experience I've had with the brand. The gym itself is small, and the way this franchise is managed feels unprofessional and even a little unsettling, as if members are constantly being monitored. Tdlr: Desperate for money, sketchy. No care at all for customer experience - wants your money at any cost. Nothing is ever their fault, they always toss excuses at any problem and never take responsibility. Check the other reviews, experiences match up. I had to sign up at a different location. This has been a routine issue at all locations. Management is never there in hours I could come by in person, and they require you to do just that for everything related to your account or signing up for anything. I was unable to get any class or group schedules sent to me from the location close to me, despite reaching out several times. So I didn't use this gym companies services. Not once. Tried to get private sessions but the tangle of hoops to jump through with driving to the farther location at certain times to discuss it etc etc made me not bother. Anyhow, didn't work for me and wanted to cancel. Afterall, they wouldn't want to keep my money if they hadn't fulfilled any service to me, right? I hadn't gone even one time. But, they have the predatory practice of locking you into a contract and exit fees that cost as much as just letting it expire. Which I did. Or so I thought... after calling and texting multiple days to the manager previously asking to get let out of the contract, she decided the best course of action was to let an auto renew feature of the contract take place, and to just keep charging me longer when my contract was up. Ok, simple fix right? I can just get a refund and cancel right? No, they will never refund you. And even worse, they refuse to let you sign any cancellation paperwork until you pay renewal fees on a service you already asked to cancel months ago. Basically they hold your credit hostage to squeeze more money out of you. This isn't just one location, I reached out directly to the regional manager and was given the same lines and no offer for refund. $750 for absolutely nothing. This gym uses scummy practices done in bad faith. They know a customer isn't served by being charged after a contract ends, when they requested a cancellation. Any legitimate business would simply refund it and strive to keep a good relationship with the customer. They really only care about grabbing as much of your money as possible before you get out of this bad relationship. I'm also not a lawyer, but when I read through the contract it appears to state customers can never have a class action lawsuit against them (sketchy) and that they can use photo/video of customers (possibly in advertising campaigns, possibly also sell them) without consulting us first or paying us for usage. This company is FULL of deceptive practices!!! They sent me this email saying my account is paid in full on October 2. But when I call the accounts department they say it is still active!!! They have LIED since the beginning and they entrap you into their membership. They only way you can get out of it is to become permanently injured in other words they want you to keep coming back until you can't function any longer OR you have to DIE!!! Totally counter intuitive of what a health club should want for you!!! They care more about making money for their trainers than the people they are training!!! I have found a DR who will sign my note but REALLY???? They treat you like a child. You have to get a DR's note to get out of the gym membership!!!! Absurd!! If you injure me I know better than any doctor whether I can continue that exercise or not. I am an athlete!!! But I know my limits! Who are they to dictate to me what is good for me or not??? Their policy is moot when it comes to their exercises injuring you. I DO NOT want to even exercise around these people. Today I went to visit this anytime fitness for the first time as I normally go to the one on 620/2222, I scanned into the front with my key fob and began working out (unknowingly I brought the wrong key fob, it was my dads), as I'm already at least 30 min into my workout a manager comes up to me telling me I need to leave, explaining the key fob situation. I say that I'm sorry I must've used the wrong key so we go to the office to check if I'm in the system and it said I was expired I don't know how because I've been working out at the 620/2222 location daily for nearly a year now. I begin to get very irritated when the manager assumed I was younger and unwise I am 23 years old (I look 16) but she assumed I was some Kid sneaking into the gym I guess to mess around or something I don't know. I don't thinks she's very accepting of underage gym goers from her reaction upon me, I don't understand why she approached me with such hostility. Let alone let me workout for 30 min before even saying anything to me. But even while I was in there I didn't cause any disruptions to anyone else all I want to do is my workout because it helps with my anxiety ( I suffer from Bipolar working out helps tremendously) Anyways they kicked me out and I left but I was under a lot more mental distress than I was when I walked in because the lady was forcing me to leave in a very demeaning way that I accidentally left AirPod case there. I just wanted to leave my anxiety was increasing by the second. As I'm driving away I realize my mistake and turn around, (I was contemplating going back just because of how the lady treated me but I knew I needed the case back) I go back scan in and immediately begin to look for my AirPod case, as then the manager approaches me again, i completely ignore her and say I'm just trying to get my AirPod case. I am in a lot of mental distress right now and she is telling me to get out even saying she going to call authorities (I'm just trying to get my AirPod case) we get into a small back and forth. as I'm telling her this and about how I am bipolar and under mental distress. After that she began to loosen up and helped let me look for my AirPods. but I don't understand how she couldn't physically see the mental distress I was in or just ask questions and have just a little consideration. I mean I understand if I was causing problems there why you would want me to leave so abruptly but I wasn't doing anything disruptive. After I came Back to retrieve my AirPods she said I could finish my workout but I really didn't feel comfortable being there at all after that interaction so I left and plan to never go back there again. I just wanted to workout. I was already very mentally unstable going in there that's why I went in the first place and I left in sadly a much worse condition, this has got to be the first time in my life I have been to a gym and felt discriminated against for very minimal fault on my side, I apologize for my confusion on the key fobs, I am genuinely sorry for my mistake but why did I have to treated that way, just be considering - you never know what people are going through and just your simple act of hostility can make such a greater detriment to someone's life than you may ever know. I genuinely don't even understand how or why this even happened, there is extremely limited knowledge to help reinforce their actions, just ask questions first before making assumptions. read more

Firstly, the staff here are very friendly and helpful. They really kept me motivated and going for a good while. Due to personal reasons I ended up needing to cancel my contract. Advice is- make sure you know what you're committing to. The cancelation fees are exorbitant. I was going to end up spending well over $1,000 for early cancellation. But the staff at Leander escalated me to the regional manager and got some of the fees waived. So all in all I can't complain too much. I did agree to it. read more

They care more about making money for their trainers than they do about your health. The exercises in the group training are not good for me but they don't care they just want their money. Read the contract thoroughly and get your attorney to read it before you sign. They use high pressure sales tactics - do not give in. Beware of AnyTime Fitness in Leander. They will tell you one thing, then in the paperwork it is different. I signed my wife up a year ago and was told that her membership is $30.99 per month and that the membership would not automatically renew. My fault for not checking the credit card because they buried in the print they changed per month billing to billing every two weeks. I would NEVER agreed to that, their facility is not worth that. They also changed her to an "open" membership which never stops, they will just keep billing us until we give them 30 days notice. We are canceling all our memberships and will NEVER step foot in that facility again. This is classic bait and switch. read more

The gym itself is adequate, but buyer beware when you cancel. They require a 30-day notice and continue to charge you until that date arrives and do not give you access to the facility. I am disappointed with the equipment and how customers are treated here. You will get locked into an Unbreakable contract and with no option to modifying it. I don't use the tanning bed much because it gets gross sometimes and I couldn't remove the extra 15 a month when I do not use it. The person managing the gym "Jared" is also very dismissive and rude. I joined this gym about 2 months ago after learning how many locations there are in austin and surrounding areas. I came from golds gym and have been a long time customer of theirs. I am so glad I switched! No, anytime fitness is not big and flashy, but that is exactly what I needed. There are "real" people getting healthy and staying fit. Not girls primping with full makeup to try and attract guys. As some have said, the building is older and its small, but they have plenty of equipment to complete a full body workout and I rarely have to wait for cardio machines! I even went to a location yesterday at 5pm (usually peak hours) and there was only 1 person there. I practically had the whole gym to myself! I also purchased a personal training package to learn more about the equipment and keep me motivated. My trainer is Amanda....who is awesome! We meet weekly for a relatively low price! Its a 30 min session spread out weekly for 3 months, so its not like I go 4 times and then I can't go anymore because I have already paid an insane amount of money. Also, this gives me a chance to actually get to know the staff. It really does feel like the "neighboorhood gym". read more

7 minutes ago Update on previous- After several attempts to cancel i finally gave up and started to dispute their charges. They tried to threaten me about sending me to collections and how i wont be able to buy a home. I told them i literally have no income right now and i cant pay anything they ask of me, and that they could send me to collections, it wouldn't affect me because my credit was already not great. After realizing they couldn't scare me with collections they then went after my underage sister (who attends the gym as well) to take over my contract. She was so scared and worried that she was about to take over my contract and was willing to put her self in financial trouble. I immediately contacted the general manager Amanda Borski and told her to NEVER bring my younger sister into this again , it was unprofessional of her part. Manipulation is her strength. she then tried to convince me to get my father to take over and how she doesn't want to send me to collections. I told her again i DONT CARE ABOUT COLLECTIONS. its my contract its my responsibility and im willing to take that hit on my credit report. So please just cancel the membership. She then tried to make me feel bad about her fathers medical issues and how she will be fliying out of town. Keep in mind she didn't care about anything i went through with my situation. I love going here since its 1 mile away from home.i just wish it had more and newer equipment. I love using hammer strength type machines when I'm not using free weights. Also this place is never busy when I come . It typically has seniors there which is great since they dont usually use what I need. The manager Luke is a great guy! If this place wants to grow, I think it's going to have to cater to the younger crowd more by updating the equipment. The seniors will still come because its nearby,lol! I am new to Leander and visited every gym within a decent driving distance from my home and work. Anytime Fitness has everything you need for a good workout and there are not people all over the place. It is very rare a piece of equipment I need is being used at the time. Also, if you have questions on how to use a piece of equipment, how to change up your workout, or need help with form, the staff is super attentive and eager to help in any way they can and so are the other people at the gym. I look forward to the time I spend here after work is over each day and I am very grateful for the time and effort the staff (especially Amanda) have put in to help me. read more

I completely regret signing up for a membership at Anytime Fitness. I originally signed up at the Round Rock location and that location is really clean, the customer service was awesome, and I loved my workout sessions there. Unfortunately, I moved and now the Leander location is the closest to me. This gym is in horrible condition compared to the Round Rock location. I feel like they're not very concerned with cleanliness. I used to shower after my workouts, but here, I cringe just stepping into their bathroom. Just the other day, I had an issue with losing my key fob. So I bought a replacement one for $39 with the promise that if I found my original keyfob, I can return one of them for my money back. Well, I found my original keyfob and when I went to return the extra one, lo and behold, they said that they don't refund keyfobs and conveniently, the guy that told me that they would, no longer works for them. I've read some of the reviews on here of this location and I completely agree that the management here is very condescending and sexist towards women. I argued and argued to get them to refund my money as courtesy for my wasted trip and time, but had no luck. My husband comes in to help me in the end, and there was no arguing with him. They refunded my money back just like that. It's like they thought that they could walk all over me because I'm a mere girl or something. I felt very disrespected. Anyway, I'm at Gold's Gym now and MUCH happier even though I'm paying my membership at Anytime Fitness off until it expires in 2 months. There's no cancelling early with Anytime Fitness, so when you sign up, you're stuck. So please beware. Oh, one last thing. I really have to put this in here, because I've never, ever been treated so rudely in my entire life by someone before. If the owner of this location is reading this, I had the pleasure of working with Cleve. Please get him some training in customer service. I've never had anyone roll their eyes so much at me and showed such displeasure of trying to help me with my issue. Absolutely to respect. Iv been trying to cancel my membership for months now due to medical health issues i had encountered, and no income due initiating me and my boyfriends start up. Everything was great the first 2 months, no complaints at all.Unfortunately i got ill and things went downhill for me for the next several months after that. I tried to cancel and show them my doctors letters saying how i cant workout due to my medical problem. They informed me that they cant cancel unless my doctors letter SHOWS PROOF OF PERMANENT & TOTAL PHYSICAL DISABILITY. So if you ever have a medical illness arise or god forbid you get cancer they still will not cancel your membership. - Iv been fighting this trying to cancel since August of 2019. My health Issues happened in June 2019 and they keep asking me if im sure if i want to cancel as if i haven't been clear :/ this is a nightmare, i just want to cancel. read more

I have been to a few gyms in my life but, never one like this. When I go in the manager Chris greets me by my name and always asks how I am doing. The trainers are a great addition to the gym as well. If you have a question you can ask them or if you would like to share some good news about your fitness journey they are excited for you. When I walk into this gym I get a since of being at home I feel comfortable with the staff and the way they connect with clients. I read the review that spoke about the manager and I am sorry for him that he is missing out on a fabulous gym!!!! Have been going to this gym for almost 3 years now. We love it because everything we need is there, no unnecessary "frills". The staff is great, they really seem to care about overall health and wellness and are ready to answer questions when needed. Finding this gym is kind of like finding the right church. You are recognized when you are there and missed when you are not. Feels like a second family to us and we are so lucky they are close to home. If you are looking for that place where all the pretty people go just to be seen or "scene", this is not it. This is a gym. Currently they have a great class on Saturday mornings. The gym is a bit run down, equipment is okay, space is limited. The staff is nice and great especially when you are in the signing up process but should you need to cancel or freeze the communication is horrible and they will try to lock you in. A refund was never issued and due to a medical reason I had to cancel meanwhile had only been able to get one workout in, yet was charged 80$ worth of usage due to a breakdown in help and communication from the staff. This is the absolute worst gym (As a whole and franchise) is the market do not waste your money on this place . I'm leaving for basic training in the military sent them my information and they would still expect me to pay , a few days before I leave I received a letter in the mail saying I owe them 789.35$ . I love this gym! It is always clean and the equipment is top of the line and not worn out. They have little tvs on each individual cardio machine so I'm not stuck watching CNN and you can plug in your headphones so you can actually hear what your watching instead of reading it all with the captions. You don't get the usual crowd here. This is not a meat market like other gyms. The people here are actually working out and not grunting like idiots. The staff is really nice and helpful. Plus, I can go whenever I want because of the 24 hour access. You get a key card to enter the gym so only members can get through after business hours. read more

After canceling our membership in late 2008, we had also put a hold so they could not draft our account anymore. We did this out of the advice of other members of the gym. Well a stop payment is good for SIX months under Texas Law. Guess what when the six months expired they continued to draft money, this is after we had canceled our memberships six months before. We have just realized they have been hitting us for the last eight months. We are not members anymore, we turned in our access badges as they asked. This is shady business practices to say the least. I have been a member since they opened in Leander about 10 years ago. Since I live in Leander it is a perfect fit for me, close proximity and 24 hours access. I have dealt with these types of places before so when I went in to sign up I specifially asked to only have a 2 month membership. I paid 20 extra a month in order to not have a year contract. I specifically asked the gym manager to make sure that I did not get sighned up on the auto renewal program and stated I would re-sign up if I was happy after two months. He was so reassuring that I trusted him! I called 3 weeks before my last month was up and told them I would not be renewing. When signing up I was told to sign a contract confirming the payment for two months and in very small print ( no where near my signature)... there was a note automatically signing you up for auto renewal! I was instructed to call the billing company and give a 30 day written notice to cancel??? This would mean I would have to pay for an additional month! Apparantly this is how they scam one extra month out of their customers. I was so specific about not wanting to have my bank account drafted after the two months and they specifically did not explain the auto renewal process. If their policy always requires a 30 written notice no matter what you sign up for they should fully inform their customers! I am still attempting to resolve this issue and so far they don't seem to care that they have mislead me and given poor customer service!
