Planet fitness in Meriden it smaller than the one in Southington. It is a great place for cardio and a quick session.. the machines are not as new as others but I guess the newer the location the newer the equipment. It is a very open yet confined space. All the cardio machines are lined up with tvs numbered to choose to listen to that channel however they are all news channels. That is pretty depressing. They should update the machines to have your own screen so you can choose what's you are watching. If income to this location I bring my headphones and watch something on my own device. Although this IS my favorite PF location because of the cleanliness and upkeep of machines and equipment, I'm sorry to say that the management fell short on customer service. It has been 4 months since the billing debacle occurred, I have yet to receive my $40 refund on wrongfully billed late charges which was promised to me by both the manager and the "home office"! I complied with THEIR request to change my billing method immediately and expected that they would do the same with the refund but NOOOOO! Shameful. And just to clarify...those late charges were because my debit card supposedly expired. And yet they managed to charge said debit card anyway!!!! I've now decided that if this company needed my measly $40 to keep the toilet paper available, so be it. I still like the place and it's not worth my time to chase them around. The gym is a bit more crowded now and you do wait for machines. The Clunk alarm is just idiotic. It's an alarm if you happen to drop free weights on the floor to loudly. So this hinders you from trying to max out your set. I also understand but have yet to see, if you happen to grunt while lifting, the alarm sounds. You do need to breath out when you lift so very stupid. Some machines are now taped off (broken) and not nearly enough free weights and benches. Very disappointing. So, I went out and bought my own bench, 500#'s of weights and I had an elliptical so I am good to go and don't even need to drive...also NO Clunk alarm! Oh yea...I bought rubber padding so I don't break a hole though my basement floor. read more

I LOVE this gym. Grab some pizza and just sit on a machine and catch up with your friends. It's all you can eat pizza!!! You can't go wrong. I like to grab a handful of tootsie rolls and take a quick nap in the hydro massage room. The best part about it is if any of these in shape muscle heads give you any problems the staff politely kicks them out by sounding an alarm and humiliating them. I'm here almost every day, and overall this place is serviceable for the price. Ample equipment, nice staff, and relatively calm and free of meat-heads when here off-peak. One huge problem that I have is that no one seems to wipe off their machines after using them. This behavior is expected from certain types of idiots that tend to frequent gyms, but I've seen members of the staff use equipment and not clean it off after they've finished on literally dozens of occasions. This behavior is really specific to the short male trainer. It is really, really off-putting and this kind of behavior from a member of the staff is why, despite an otherwise positive experience here, I cannot give this place more than two stars. read more

Even though this is still my favorite gym in the area, I felt the need to update my review. Cardio and weight training machines are excellent and provide the workout that you desired (or desperately needed). A few machines squeak like crazy or make other noises as you use them, but mostly seems like they just need some WD-40 to get rid of the noises. At times a couple of machines will have the "temporary out of order" sign on them, but Meriden is really quick to get those machines going again. Much better than Waterbury that's for sure. I finally had the time to try out the hydromassage bed. HOLY CRAP WHY DID IT TAKE ME SO LONG?!?! After 1.5 or even 2 hours of rigorous cardio and weight training, a ten minute massage on this wonderful piece of heaven does the trick for sore muscles. As soon as I get back home, I am out like a light (that is, when I hit the gym during the evening). As always, I wipe down a machine before I use it. There will be some meatbags who will use three machines all at once, and don't even wipe them down. And some others who are just gross and will not wipe down the machine after they use it. The reason why one star was dropped is that I just wished staff would actually use the lunk alarm when needed. The meatbags who grunt, drop weights and actually glare at others because of their size unfortunately is found here. I am no supermodel, but at least I want to get myself healthy. Staff is really friendly, but I think they could at least pay more attention to those who break all the rules of being a "lunk." Still, it will not deter me from going to the gym. At the end of the day, I feel good about myself. read more

I guess any problems I have with this gym are based on how much I dislike the general public, not so much with the gym itself. The layout is good. I like that the cardio is so separate from the weights, and I LOVE the stretching room. It's nice to have a private place to stretch and do ab work NOT in front of all the meat heads. The tanning is nowhere near the rest of the gym which is also nice, so you aren't running into people tanning. I also like the large number of machines, so you aren't often waiting for a machine. The crowd leaves a lot to be desired. While the dress code and lunk alarm are in place, the douche bags and meat heads still find their way in. There are constantly people messing up the circuit workouts, and there aren't any consequences to doing so. The 12 minute abs will NOT work if people keep wandering in and loitering on the ab machine. For $10 a month, I am definitely satisfied. I get to work out on a wide variety of machines and the hours are good, so it's worth seeing through the meat heads that will be present at almost every gym. read more

The quality of the gym has improved in the past few months so I don't know if someone is reading the reviews. It's now more pleasant to go to this gym than it was a few months ago however the following still need to be addressed: -The circuit areas still have people wandering in and out of them when you're trying to do a circuit. This seems to happen more with the abs circuit than the 30 minute circuit. -The cell phone usage in this gym is out of control and I've yet to see it addressed Other than that, it's definitely improved. I still try to go off peak hours though ie after 8 p.m on week nights and during the middle of the afternoons on weekends. read more

I dont understand the 3 star review of this place. Maybe they have a bad rap because they serve fudge on fridays and wont let me bring my 200 oz motivational water bottle with me. First, let me start by saying that I have never gone to a gym in my life before. I was absolutely terrified of either the meat market atmosphere you hear about or people laughing at me for being out of shape. I had heard good things about Planet Fitness from friends (in a different state), and their whole "Judgement Free Zone" campaign, which is partly why I chose this gym over others in the area. It ended up being the right decision. There are people of all different ages and fitness levels. I started out slow, and now, after just 3 months, I'm in better shape than I have been in 10 years. No one really pays attention to anyone else while there, so you can just do your thing and leave. This gym is incredibly nice. All new equipment and VERY clean. The locker rooms are gorgeous and the staff is friendly. The only thing this gym is missing (for me) is classes. Other than that, PF in Meriden is everything I could ever want from a gym! read more

Joined Planet Fitness Meriden less than one week ago. Paid $50 sign up fee. Today sign up fee is .01. Called gym. Spoke with General Manager who was not helpful at all. The original person who answered the phone call said he won't be able to refund the sign up fee but was sure he would waive a few monthly charges. General Manager said absolutely he would not. Was not considerate at all of the fact that in one week them sign up fee went up $49.98! Sorry for all who got taken! Poor customer service! Horrible customer service. I signed up recently and the person at the front desk was very nice and got me set up for direct deposit. Everything seemed nice and easy until I look at my bank account and they are charging me tons of late fees and over $100 a month. I called the front desk to clear this up because there a should be no late fee for a direct deposit and I can see on my bank statement that these charges are being processed right away-NOT late. I am a member of this gym.... I wish I would go more often. I hate going alone. Not that the atmosphere isnt nice. Its SUPER clean. SO many machines. The staff are very nice and always helpful. The music is pumpin and they have a bunch of TVs that you can plug your headsets into to listen to if you'd rather. Nobody has ever given me the stink eye for not being physically fit. Let's start with the positives. Most of the time it's nice and clean. The staff is great and you do see them cleaning a lot, trying to keep up. Tons of people are in and out of here so If it's not always top notch tidy I can understand that. The machines themselves defiantly aren't collecting any dust. If you go during off hours its fine. Don't dare go at dinner time 6pmish-730pmsih. It's like a human stampede. Almost every machine filled. I don't like that they don't have tread-climbers. I guess you get what you pay for there but come renewal time if I find a gym reasonably priced who does have them.... I may just switch. Also another big thumbs down is how they claim they are a "no contract gym". Yes, yes they are. You also have to pay yearly fees. This is not a simple "10 bucks a month" gym. You WILL be entering into a contract. Unfortunately if you don't want a gym humping on your credit card taking out fees every month you'll have to pay upfront for the year. Don't bother asking to bring home the contract you need to agree to home to read. You'll get your head bitten off like you're asking to commit a sin or something. But that was only one tubby snotty chick, the rest of the staff so far have all been very nice and friendly. It's a typical gym, not very many perks( I don't tan... that's lame. If I have a tan I went to the beach and it was an accident) just the bone essentials. If you don't need classes, a pool, and stuff like that it's pretty good. I wish they made the stretching room it's uhh... own room though and twice the size. It really is way too small for how many people frequent the gym. One of my biggest quips is more to do with the general public though. That's where they loose major points. On the average it typically isn't too bad. But every few weeks I swear I'll be on a row of machines let's say.... elliptical. Nobody else is on the row. I'm happily air-trotting along and some old creeeepy dude decides to park it right next to me. Like their wasn't about 40 other machines down the way he could of picked. No no, come up right next to me and creep me out. That, is very very annoying to me. Yes I have personal space issues and I don't think I'm entirely alone there. Granted If I go when it's busy and someone comes along next to me I'm very understanding about it, nature of the beat let's say. However when it's dead? cooooome on. Or some creeper right behind me with the same dilemma of "40 other machines you could of picked but you want to watch my booty wobble" Okay I'm being overly dramatic about it, but you get my point. If you are a germaphobe.... Wash your machines off before you use them. I'm a courteous person(I try to be) and always wipe my machines off when I'm done. Some people seem to think others totally wanna work out in their body juice. If I notice someone didn't wipe down their machine right before I use it... I'll clean it and have no shame giving them a "you know better" .3 second stink eye as I wash their sweat. The staff is great but sometimes I feel bad for them. A lot of people just.... don't give a crap about cleaning up after themselves at the gym. Also... here's a tip... if you're using a machine... stay on it/stand by it. When it's busy and people have things to do they're gonna use it. While you're prancing around in your sun-glasses confusing yourself as the gym mascot don't get pissy if someone steals your machine. Really nice as far as the Planet Fitness franchise goes. Everything was clean, the gym was bright and not dreary like many of the other one's I've seen. Rooms were divided up based on muscle group station, which is helpful if you are ignorant to gym equipment like I have a tendency to be. This gym is a great place for starters you can work at your own pace and they do provide a training program. The 30 minute room needs to have the time limits enforced...i have been very close to having altercations with rude people who sit on each piece of equipment for ten minutes or more while they text or socialize with friends...especially rude are the 20 somethings and the over sixty crowd...this past sunday a group of over 65 year olds monoplolized the machines for ten minutes at a time...very aggravating.i wish the staff would enforce the time limits here the way they moniter where people hang their coats. Also have now twice had items stolen when I inadvertently left them on machines for only a matter of minutes..a third time my item was recovered. read more

I love this gym. My only problem is with people that sit on a machine and text on their phone. Well I finally scored a win for all us people that actually leave their phone in the car or in the locker and actually come to workout. I walk up to a cable machine to start my warm ups with some tricep pull downs...there is a rope already hanging. I see a man sitting on the lat pull down bench oblivious to my being there, I take the rope off and move to another station and do my 3 sets of 12 etc etc...I start my next set and at this time the man gets up and goes to where the rope was and looks confused...I guess he was using the rope at one time and being he was playing with his phone he never even noticed me come up and take it. This Planet Fitness just opened up a month or two ago. I wasn't expecting much, but so far I must say that this club is doing a great job. The bathrooms and machines are always kept clean. The staff is friendly and non intrusive. Also, there are no personal trainers pestering you, which is HUGE for me. All in all, a $10 a month membership with no contract is great for me! GREAT GYM. It has me going almost everyday, which says a lot since most people dont necessarily WANT to go to the gym. The place is clean, and has enough machines for a small town-which at times driving up to it feels like everyone and there mother is there. Regardless of the sometimes heavy flow of traffic, everyone is in their own groove, and you rarely find people wandering around looking at other people. (it is inevitable of course, as humans, that there will be some hardheads or "sketchy" people walking around-but thats not the gyms fault!) The locker rooms are also always very clean, and as long as you bring your own lock, youre good to go. I wish the stretching room was a liiiiittle bigger, as it can get crowded with mats and people stretching- but its a busy gym so I understand. I have the black card and bring my sister with me every time I go. Its great motivation for both of us, and the fact that she comes "free" everytime, is wonderful. Being in the same house, it wouldnt make sense for us BOTH to pay a start up fee, and an annual fee attached to the membership. I like that tanning is also included. Sometimes its a little overwhelming with the amount of wait time for a bed. They should have a better system about waiting for a bed, as it can get a little crazy during the busy hours. Top notch for a PF. Big and spacious structure (old Pep Boys), packed with new equipment. Decent freeweight area and locker rooms are nice. Be careful about this place. If you cancel within a few days of your anniversary date, they debit your bank account for the "Annual Fee" which equates to the next 12 months. They are do not exhibit any level of good customer service by offering to waive that since you are literally only a few days off on your cancellation date. When I discussed this with Nicole, the manager, there was no effort to keep me as a future customer. The answer was, that if they did it for me, everyone would want their money back. I've been a member of this Planet Fitness for quite some time now (please don't judge me for my small number of check-ins!), and all in all, I think it's a good gym. There are no group classes, and there aren't any fancy amenities aside from the massage tables for black card members, but the place gets the job done. I've never had a problem getting an elliptical, and in particular, I can always find a spot in front of the TV set on Food Network, which is the only channel I want to watch at the gym now that Teen Mom is over. I like the 30-minute circuit training room, which is great for someone like me who wants to strength train but has no idea what to do or where to start. When I first joined, I was actually using one of the machines wrong (yes, there are good instructions right on the machines with pictures), and a member of the staff came over from the desk to help me out. The staff in general has always been friendly and helpful, and I think they do a really good job keeping the place clean. The gym can get pretty busy in the evening when everyone gets out of work, but it's not bad at all in off hours. read more

Going to loose a lot customers to the EDGE Fitness across the street. They are more appealing. However, with that said you would think that management would step things up a little to service the customers a little better. They still do not monitor the circuit and people go in and do what they want with out following the rules. Well I would have given this club 4 stars but after meeting the regional manager Jon, I give it 5. Jon was so attentive to everything going on in the club. I worked out there for an hour and to see him going around helping staff and even cleaning was eye opening!! A lot of managers feel they are above these things and don't even take the time to say hello. Jon walked by multiple people and said hello. Very humble and very pleasant! Great atmosphere. Always able to use the machines without waiting. The people that work there are the best. I always feel at home. Very CLEAN. Other people that go there seen to be polite too. I am so happy I joined. Worth the money. I have no idea why people rank on this club. There is a review below that says about someone yelling at them,etc. That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Either they don't know the meaning of "Yell" or they are just being super sensitive. Meriden has great people working there and I don't ever see anyone rudely talked to. Someone also said about machines taped off all the time! I think that's another idiot remark. The hydro massage beds are fantastic and the tanning. I haven't tried the massage chairs yet.. I don't know why people think about what others think. Do what you came there to do and leave. Get over yourself already. No one bothers anyone. You'll find supportive people.
