Crossfit Wallingford - Hero Challenge

Crossfit Wallingford

My all-time favorite CrossFit gym around, with that being said I travel 40+ minutes 3-4x a week…read morejust to go to their classes! Coaches are awesome, they will work around any injury/movement and always push you to get out of your comfort zone while building confidence to learn new movements. Everyone is ALWAYS welcoming, friendly, motivated, positive, and constantly cheering everyone else on to do better, get more fit, and be a better you - physically, mentally, and emotionally. On top of physical fitness, Crossfit Wallingford offers nutritional insights and Ascent Protein (my favorite Lemon Sorbet). This gym fits the mold of any individual willing to get off the couch and try something new to better themselves in life! There's a million positive adjectives to describe how great this gym is, but you won't find out until you go! Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Crossfit can feel intimidating to get a start in as I think back to when I first joined, but it…read moreliterally just took stopping in for 5 minutes and talking with Rob and Ron, the owners/coaches, and I knew this was a place that would accept anyone of any fitness levels. I had my worries as I knew I couldn't keep up with the athletes on the Crossfit Games on ESPN, but one of the great things about the sport is the ability to scale back all of the movements to each athlete's fitness level. I came in for the on-ramp classes, and never looked back almost 2 years later. Rob and Ron are two of the nicest and most caring people you will ever meet, and their passion for the sport always shows through. This gym has something for everyone as there are near elite athletes swinging from rings and climbing ropes working out along side new members who maybe are just deciding to get off the couch and getting into the swing of things. If you are thinking about starting the Crossfit journey, I couldn't recommend more stopping by on a Saturday morning at 10am for the free intro class, but be prepared for a great workout.

I really wanted to love The Edge Fitness Clubs in Meriden because on paper it checked a lot of…read moreboxes for me. I originally joined for the movie theater cardio room, the group classes, and the women's only area. Being able to watch a movie while working out makes it much easier to stay motivated, especially on days when I forget my headphones. I also liked the idea of having classes to stay consistent and a women's only space where I could work out without feeling uncomfortable. Unfortunately, those features no longer feel like real benefits. The class schedule is extremely inconvenient. No matter what shift I worked, the classes were either very early in the morning or late in the evening after dinner. Once I am home and have eaten, I am not going back out to the gym, especially knowing it will disrupt my sleep. The biggest issue for me was the women's only area. It no longer seems to be women only. I was on a treadmill when a man came over and started working out next to me while staring, which made me extremely uncomfortable. That was the final straw because that space was one of the main reasons I chose this gym in the first place. On top of that, many of the machines feel outdated, and the overall environment just no longer fits what I am looking for in a gym. Canceling was also frustrating. The only way to cancel is by email or physical mail, and responses take a long time. Even though I submitted my cancellation more than two weeks before my next billing cycle, I was told I would still be charged for another month anyway. At this point, I am relieved to be canceling. What originally made this gym appealing is no longer being delivered, and the cancellation process only added to the disappointment.
