This is by far the worst I've ever seen.between almost half of the equipment being out of order the other half desperately needing attention. This location has consistently fallen short of my expectations. Below are some of the issues I have encountered: Unannounced Closures: Frequently, the club is closed without any prior notice or explanation. I suspect this is due to personnel shortages, as there is typically only one person working at a time. Front Desk Availability: Often, there is no one present at the front desk. There is a sign instructing members to call a specific phone number for assistance, which ironically is the number for the unattended front desk. Lighting: On my recent visit, six overhead lights were out, and it appears that as more lights go out, they are not being repaired. TVs: Similarly, six TVs were not working during my last visit, and this issue seems to persist. Treadmills: Eight treadmills were out of order, which is a recurring problem. Cable Equipment: Several cables have been broken for months without repair. Strength Training Equipment: Many of the pads on the strength training equipment are worn out. These could be easily fixed with an Allen wrench in a matter of minutes. HVAC: Last summer, the air conditioning was broken for an entire month. Club Management: When I requested a manager's contact card, the front desk staff informed me that they do not have any available. read more

This gym is the worst. Most of the treadmills are broken. The muscle machines are half broken. And, none of this gets fixed! The staff in the evenings are not at all friendly. People hold conversations in the workout area on cellphones or with each other, not at all considering the people next to them. I have only been to this establishment a few times. My husband and I are Black Card members. We usually go about 5pm however we started going early like 245 because we noticed that most of the treadmills are broken. It's not a lot of people there but I will go back to 5pm because the earlier staff gives you so much hassle. Sometimes my husband can't come with me, so I go alone. I scanned my black card and went in with no problem however when I was finish working out and I wanted to do the hydro bed, but the Indian guy advised, if my husband is not there, I cannot use the hydro bed. I have used it every time I came, with or without my husband, and it was never problem when I come after 5 but if I come before then, I'm questioned down! It was a line of people complaining and that is very uncomfortable when we pay our dues every month! I guess if the guy was there at the desk when we come, maybe he would have known I was a black card member. I scanned again however I was still turned away! NOT GOOD BUSINESS! Just tried to use this gym after signing up for a black card at another location. Was immediately hassled by the counter staff. A little indian man who looked like a short version of the dude stuck in the cave with Tony Stark only without the charisma or intelligence. Look at the other reviews. I am from out of state and I happen to love this location despite other reviews. It's a little more "old school" and smaller but I prefer that compared to the ritzy gyms. The gym is on the warmer side but I enjoy the temp as sweating feels even more rewarding after my workout. The lights are also dimmer compared to other places which I especially enjoy. One and a half stars. I'm a PF member and I patronize the gym in Wake Forest which is new, clean, well maintained and staffed. I use this one when I'm visiting the area because it's the closest to my dad's house in Newark. The gym is a dump! It's in a run down strip mall on the east side of town. The AC never is working properly here and they have fans at the front and rear door. The only staff member here is at the front. He didn't even check that I checked in, I could have just walked in without scanning the bar code. The machines are well worn and the lighting is poor here. Seven of the overhead lights were off today. The bathrooms are dirty. Even with the fans on the ventilation in the gym is pretty bad. The gym serves its purpose when I'm up here, that's pretty much it. I'm going to venture to the next two closest ones which are in Christiana DE and Elkton MD to see if those are any better. Poor customer service and just wrong This review and comments are directed at the Planet Staff, New Castle, Delaware working the early afternoon shift. The staff of 3 people, young lady, young man and an older middle aged female employee. I checked into the facility at 11:00 am, and placed my belongings, dry clothing car keys, wallet into locker 1. And locked with my good o master key lock. Upon completing my workout around 1pm I went to get my dry clothing and personal items out of the locker. Where I found NO lock. I saw my stuff, but I was a little confused about the lock. So I went up front to ask if anyone had turned in a lock. Where I was told that THEY had cut my lock off. And left all of my personal effects open in the locker. Staff response was, someone had said they left their keys in the locker and could they cut off the lock for them. And they did. Without checking in or asking any of the customers at that time. It wasn't that busy. Saturday afternoon in June, 80 plus degrees. That was on multiple fronts, you don't cut locks and go into other personal effects, without reaching out. You don't leave personal effects open to the public, there was a reason the personal items were initially locked up. They offered me a planet fitness combination lock as a replacement to my lock. Uh no. I spent good money on that lock. Why when I asked to speak to the manager, I was told they didn't come in until Monday. Then they let me leave the counter and walked to the door, WITHOUT asking for my name, telephone number. When I walked back to the counter they looked at me and spoke like I was bothering them. I am sending this complaint out late Monday, June 6, 2024 just to give New Castle, Planet Fitness the opportunity to reach out to me. So did management reach out to apologize or to make amends. Based off what I have already stated to you about my Planet Fitness customer service experience - so what do you think has happened. Understand when you sign up and PAY, they get your email address, phone number, banking details and your photo. Nothing. Is anybody surprised they have done nothing to this point, or by their lack of professionalism or customer service. Multiple machines down, to the point they stopped putting signs on them, hydro massage always down. One treadmill litterally has all the wiring out for over a month. But the worst issue is ,the gym will be packed, you will wait over an hour to get on a machine especially in the 1 hour section, because people will play on there phones for 30 minutes, do a rep and go back to there phones. I love the workers that work there but the manager is rude af. My home gym had messed up my payments. Somehow I had two memberships and didn't know it. The manager called while I was standing at the register. She said she would call my home gym to verify I paid and started telling me how she could deny my entry and etc. I said okay kind of confused... then she told me I was being smart with her and she was doing me a favor and all this other stuff... I stood there like.. okay, still confused and she continued on to the point where I told her I can go to my home gym I don't have to deal with being talk to like that. She said okay bye! Smh... I would not recommend. I walked in canceled my membership on April 15th, was given cancellation document by email that said last day to use club is 4-16-2023 but was still charged. Refunded by my bank, only for club to turn around and charge me in May for same payment. When I asked to be refunded was told billing starts 10th of every month. So it was to late to stop, but manager can refund. I asked to speak to manager was told she would call in 2 weeks. Never heard from her, called again. Was told she will call, never called. I'm no longer interested in using club and would like a refund. Not a good experience in customer service. I would not recommend this club. You cant not just take advantage of your customers like that, charging membership fees after cutting off their club use. I will dispute with bank and report to Better Business Bureau. read more

It's still covid yet they've stopped cleaning. I wipe my machine before & after then I go tan & of course clean before & after but when I'm cleaning the bed before, it takes at least two spray & wipes because the hair all over the bed, since nobody cleaned between. These facilities are most certainly individually owned..too many discrepancies from one location to the next. Overall...I'm a fan of the brand. Good pricing on reasonable equipment. This review is for this singular location. There is an issue with the local management/ownership. Theft is a problem here. Here is the situation that leads me to this conclusion...two separate incidents within a 3 week period involving multiple members. While working out 'someone' breaks into the easily pried open locker and takes the member's wallet but nothing else. Incident is reported to the front desk immediately after discovery. Front desk personnel are not concerned with the event. They offer their phone for the member to call the police on their own if the want. First incident had 3 unconcerned employees at the front desk, second incident had 2 unconcerned employees indicate there was nothing they could do. If there was any concern whatsoever for member safety and privacy then the most basic information of the crimes would recorded by the management. team or the owner in this case. By documenting the day/time of just 3 of these crimes the owner could easily cross reference which members/employees were on premises for all 3 crimes. Statistically 98.5% of people with access to the locker room would be eliminated. With 4 incidents recorded and cross referenced 99.94% could be eliminated. There appears to be some motivation on the part of this facility to not document the crimes, not sure what that motivation may be. If these thefts or other crimes took place in my home or my place of business you can rest assured I would do everything possible to end it. If there is no concern on the part of this facility to curb theft, what other crimes have been committed or are being committed without appropriate action being taken? Locker room theft is not unique to this gym, but this is the only gym I have ever encountered not to document known crimes and inform members it is actively happening. read more

I like this location as much as I can possibly like Planet Fitness, I suppose. Their personal trainer helped me out with my workout routine, which is very much appreciated. I know, their place gets pretty busy around 5 o'clock so I usually try to go a bit earlier. The downside of working out earlier in a day is that you'll get a couple old men starting across the gym at you from their elliptical machines, sometimes it gets so annoying and lasts so long, that I have to end my work out early, but that's not the gym's fault. I'm sure that can happen anywhere. Sometimes I chat with a couple of their staff members, they're really nice guys. The renovation, indeed, has been kinda in a way, but it is what it is, it'll be over soon. One of their employees, a female with huge hoop earrings, always seems confused or lost, always has some kind of drama going on, which she very loudly complains to other employees about. Some days when I go in I'll see her talking on the phone right outside the store and it always sounds really intense. Doesn't really bother me, but just seems a bit unprofessional compared to the rest of the team. Kinda entertaining though read more

I was visiting my family in the area for just a few days, and I wanted to get in a few workouts. I went to this Planet Fitness (as I have visited others that were nice), and I have to say, in comparison, I wasn't impressed. The layout of the building makes it quite dark. The equipment was a bit older. And it was raining on the day I went, so there were a bunch of buckets on the ground to catch the dripping water... :( Also, the help at the front desk was only okay. I probably wouldn't join a Planet Fitness because they don't have free weights (barbells, specifically), but for a brief visit, it was okay. I love this gym. I used to live near the gym so it was in walking distance which made it perfect for going at whatever hour I wanted. 24 hours is awesome and it's so cheap. I love the fact that it's a cheap membership but it's not a ghetto gym. Granted, they try to stay up to date and keep it looking nice but there are a few parts of the gym (with signs or leaks) that should really be fixed much faster than they are...but not enough of a distraction to make me look elsewhere to workout. I wish they used the lunk alarm more. I absolutely hate when people drop weights and I always see the associates just sitting at the front desk texting. Regardless, I love this gym and I really can't push myself to join elsewhere because of the cost and convenience. I just wish they had more free weights and free standing equipment because it's always a wait for the captain's chair (since they only have one) and some of my fav free weights are always taken. read more

Me and my significant other have been a member of this gym for *almost* 1 year now. Approximately 2 weeks ago, I let one of the employees know that we would be cancelling our membership since we are moving to San Diego at the end of this week and they do not have any locations in the area. The employee assured me everything would be taken care of for our cancellation of the membership effective this week. We noticed a charge on both of our credit cards for $29 today, which is Planet Fitness's annual membership fee. My significant other called in to inquire about the charge since our membership is to be cancelled as of this week, so we shouldn't be paying an annual fee for a membership we won't have. The employee I spoke with when I inquired about cancelling never mentioned this fee (as he should as part of good customer service) and assured everything would be okay as far as cancelling. I feel his lack of mentioning the fee was deceptive and sneaky. When he called to inquire about the charge and have it refunded, they said it was nonrefundable despite speaking with someone 2 weeks prior to cancel the membership. The manager, Mary, said she would speak with her employees to see what occurred and would call my significant other back to see what she could do. Not only did he have to call Mary back, but she also said she would not refund the charge. While I understand that the company has to make money, to try to scam $29 out of someone who will not be using the membership (because I cannot since they have no locations where I am moving) is disgusting to me. They have a lot of members who they are receiving this fee from. Out of good customer service, they should refund them since we will not be using the gym for the year the annual fee applies to. It's truly disgusting to charge an annual fee to people who will not be using your gym for any part of that calendar year in my opinion. Not to mention, we haven't even been members for a full year, so we're paying an annual fee for a year that we won't be using when our current year isn't even up yet. read more

I like this gym a lot. Had to look for a new gym to go to since I graduated from UD where I obviously went for free. Super cheap and the machines are clean. I've met some friendly people there as well so that makes the everyday trip more enjoyable. The staff is just OK but wish they were a bit more friendlier. They look like they don't want to be there at all. I would understand if I went to an office setting where people might not like it there but a gym isn't that bad people! Just need to vent. Called to cancel today after I received a $39 annual charge yesterday. I forgot to cancel. They would not refund the $39 fee. Now before anyone says I signed a contract and it is what it is, this is 100% about customer service. I own my own business for over 35 years and would ALWAYS refund a customer if it's the right thing to do, regardless of what a contract says. If it's one day into a new year, you should treat others as you'd want to be treated and not hide behind a contract because you can. That's basically what the manager (Jonathan) told me. "it's policy", he said. I told him that there is no argument about the policy but what about being a champion for the customer? That didn't seem to resonate with him. It's all about collecting because you can. It's about maximizing your profits, even if you know you're not giving anything to the customer for the money you've taken. It's unfortunate that too many businesses put profits over being a customer champion. This business is just another example of that. I hope that this note helps them to consider looking out for their customers above their profits. When you do, the profits will come. I learned that years ago in my business. read more

A good low priced gym with a "everyman" feel the only down side is the lack of free weights and the hours. Where all other PF are open 24 hours, this one is only open until 9 M-F and 7 on the weekends. At least be open until 9pm on the weekend. Hence the 3 star rating. read more

It's a good-enough gym, especially if you're more geared towards cardio and lean fitness rather than building tons of muscle. Locker room (at least the women's) is clean, the machines work and are kept clean, and there is an area with free weights and a smith machine for people who prefer them to circuit training machines. It's much more circuit machine oriented than free weight oriented, however, and I can see the free weights area getting crowded during busy times. If you're looking at a contract with the perks (i.e. reciprocity with other PF locations, tanning rooms, massage chairs), I think Retro Fitness a couple miles away offers possibly more bang for your buck at the same price. But PF had a cheap month-to-month plan that worked out better for me plus the location was a little better. This is a no-frills location and the perks weren't worth it to me (like I'm not white, so the tanning rooms...), but at $10/month it can't be beat if you're looking for basic cardio & strength training. read more

Gets the job done. If you're looking for a hardcore bodybuilding type gym, than this is not the gym for you whatsoever. I used to go to Nutrition and Fitness Concepts in Newark for 9 months prior to joining Planet Fitness. I lost a little over 30 lbs there but I got tired of it and decided to do it on my own without anyone's assistance or guidance. So far I've lost close to 40 lbs since I started back in July 2014.
