I've been going to this Planet Fitness for a while, and it definitely meets all the basic needs. The gym is clean, well-lit, and the equipment is almost always available, especially for cardio. It's very beginner-friendly, so you'll notice a lot of newer or casual gym-goers, which keeps the vibe low-pressure. The amenities are a nice bonus--massage chairs, tanning, hydromassage--all more like a sports club than a hardcore gym. Bathrooms are always open, with plenty of stalls and usually well-maintained. Parking is in a shared mall lot, so it's free but can get a little crowded during peak hours. The layout is a bit different than other locations and I wish the cardio area was smaller to make room for more functional training as the functional training area is small. I never have to wait for a machine and feel the members are very friendly. This location also adheres to dress code rules and age requirements, which helps keep the atmosphere in check. I'm glad I decided to join this gym. I could've went anywhere else like "crunch" which is in middle town but that would've meant a 20mins drive. First I wanted to take a walk around the place (Planet fitness) before I would actually make my mind up to join or not. To my surprise the establishment was huge, clean and tons of machine. Instantly I thought about all the body parts I would be able to work out in one day. The assistance manager Randy was super helpful and knowledgeable and very friendly he was the one who gave us a tour and gave us the run down. The price was reasonable and they offer discounts for PF black card members. It's the standard PF. The gym is very clean and well lit. The equipment is functional and in good working condition. The staff is exceptionally friendly. As a Black Card member I am able to use facilities outside of my home base in Middletown. Being at work in this area has me checking out the other PF's. I'm still favored to my home location but these have been more than welcomed back up facilities. PF appears to have a service standard that they go above and beyond does. Kudos to them. Download the app, as it has a crowd meter - I was told it was real time. Which is super helpful, I thought it was just a gauge based off of facility check ins over a course of time. Nope. It's live. SUMMARY: You get what you pay for period! Great gym for the "value" it offers but if you want premium equipment, VR experiences and 32" TV's attached to the treadmill then go to the premium gyms that cost a whopping $800/year. DETAILED REVIEW: Time for a refresh after 8 long years that I had not stepped into this joint. Yea I'm going to call the place a "joint" since it sits adjacent to the ghetto called Newburgh. LOL, Yup even laughed at my own joke! I think all the hate for Planet Fitness is unwarranted when you're paying rock bottom price for gym membership just shy of FREE, yet the expectations is five star premium services. I mean seriously if Planet Fitness was any cheaper it would be a self serve business with no humans inside the store. Let's face it you get what you pay for but I have to be brutally honest, members of Planet Fitness should be getting A LOT less for that $10 membership considering the effort the business puts into making the place look fairly good. My only pet peeve about this place is they need to mark the damn changing rooms so it's crystal clear which is Men's and Women's. One time while I was zoned out I nearly walked right into the women's locker room unintentionally. Had I not stopped I would have been branded a freaking pervert big time!! I was SO embarrassed to say the least & instantly took up religion, for 30 seconds, thanking whatever God exists for not letting me walk into that changing room by accident. Who would believe a good lookin guy like me walked in "by accident"? A huge sign that basically says "dumb ass wrong room" would have been helpful. Equipment at the gym seems to be of decent and/or good quality. I'm no gym rat so I opted for the budget gym, PF, so I have no idea what premium gym equipment looks like. I just chose not to pay $800/year for the use of only a treadmill but I also don't bitch about gym quality at $10/month. I actually feel like I'm getting more than $10 worth of gym-goodness. I do get people would like for TVs to be in working condition but again realize that we (patrons) are only paying $10/month. Even a cheap TV for $75 means at least 8 memberships for that month will be needed to replace a single TV. Bring headphones and rock to some tunes, maybe it will motivate you to push yourself. After-all some of us at the gym are likely "couch potato" converts so why do we even want to concern ourselves with TV. So the TV is broken, rock some of those old school Nirvana tunes or move over to the next treadmill with a working TV. If you are worried about crowds I suggest you NEVER join during Jan or February because all the New Year resolution members join but by March/April they never return. For me, signing up was easy. Felt a little uncomfortable at first, however, after 100 questions, each one answered, I signed up and have been a member for several weeks now. it's the best value I found yet to date. signing up was easy. Paying a few extra dollars for Black Card Membership opens doors to creature comfort. Difficult workout?, get in to a quiet room with massage chair or water massage bed. Don't forget tanning bed if so inclined. Planet fitness is definitely a place for all and can be afforded. Just give up a big Mac once in a while, beside, the idea is to be healthy and stay healthy. By the way, I'm totally broke. The money previously spent on smoking more than covers my Black Card Membership. Win-Win all around. The facilities are kept clean, and orderly. Members are friendly and accommodating. Every staff member I countered has been more than helpful, thank you planet fitness, It's nice to know that when I travel you're not far away, I sometimes joke that this has to be some kind of cult many convenient locations within miles of each other. I called to cancel our account a couple of months ago and someone said they would suspend it. After the couple of months passed, they said we would have to go in to cancel it. We went in, cancelled it, the lady said ok, they'll miss us blah blah blah. Today I got charge on my card stating that I would have to come in and sign a form which they never said before. So they tried to RIP me off for the membership fee and this is nonsense. I urge all of you to check your debit card statements because they will try to sneak it in on your account and hope you don't notice. Stay away from them ! I just wanted to add that that I asked the bimbo do I need to return my our membership cards, and she said not necessary. Planet Fitness in Newburgh is a disappointment. I have been a member for 15 years. I recently moved into the Newburgh area so I started going to the Newburgh location. Staff is disengaged and seem to do little except hang at tge basically check yourself in.I don't understand why a company would have 6 staff on doing nothing. Well that is the owners business on how they spend money? For the most part most of the members are working out and it is a nice vibe. However since covid has no public interest people come to the gym and use the equipment as a place to sit and text for prolonged period of times and not using the equipment. I thought I would ask the staff who are your true customers? The several staff responded they all are paying customers. So I asked further can PF get more chairs as several customers park themselves on the equipment to sit and text. I was told that I could politely ask the person to use the equipment. So after 12 hour workday customers who are sitting texting on their cell phones (they have a sign up for people talking on cell phones should go to the lobby) that we should confront an inconsiderate person politely to use the equipment. I am very disappointed with Planet Fitness's customer service acumen. Today I am headed over to their location to drop off a letter cancelling my subscription. During the pandemic, they closed their gym and suspended billing to my account. Without any written notice of their services resuming, at some point they re-opened their gym long after I had moved to Poughkeepsie. We had our own personal fitness center in our apartment complex, so the membership was no longer necessary. Without my knowledge, they resumed billing to my account and over the course of months accrued in excess of $600, while I did not continue to check in or utilize their services post closure. I contacted their management, who responded with 'Tough Luck, call corporate they wont do anything for you either'. This is very poor service, coming from some one that has worked in the service industry through my entire career, all that I would have wanted was a simple courtesy of meeting in the middle or some form of refund. Instead I am now going to make very public my dissatisfaction with their operations, and I will spread the message as far as it needs to go. During the pandemic, a lot of things changed. I think it's very sick that as a business they are taking advantage of people who were unaware during a challenging time in the world. For that matter, I am immunocompromised due to my condition of Lyme Disease and would not have continued utilizing their services with COVID-19 anyway. The staff is warm, friendly, and relaxed. No pumped up egos. They are a wonderful welcoming committiee and make working out fun just bc they remember you and seem genuinely happy to see you back. It's huge. There are so many machines, there's never more than a couple of mintues of wait time on the machines they only have a handful of, and if that happens, there are many other machines to use while waiting. I cannot speak for any other Planet Fitness, only Newburgh NY. 1) From the moment you walk into this facility, all you hear is dance club/hip hop/rapper type of music playing on the house speakers. The bass is so intense, I hear it over my own music playing in my ear buds! Considering 90% of the clients are listening to their own music, why is the facility even playing any type of music? If Planet Fitness deems it necessary to have to play music, play all types of music at a minimal level. I am not an old fuddy-duddy, but it is very unappealing aspect of this facility. 2) The locker room and is not clean. There is garbage on the floor, in the lockers, on the counters, on the benches, etc. The outside of the locker doors has some type of goo/crude that never gets cleaned. Obviously, it is from the members. A bunch of members to busy taking selfies, then to clean up their own mess. I guess they feel entitled to do whatever they want. 3) Very often the equipment has garbage left in the cup holders. Again, blame our own lazy members. 4) Many of the televisions do not work properly. 5) Equipment that is broken. Example, the rowing machines have broken straps and broken foot holders. They have been that way for months. But on a good note, if you can deal with the negative issues, for $10/month it is a good value. And most of the employees are friendly. read more

This is my gym. I like it because I love working out on the machines. There are plenty of machines but it can get crowded. I would recommend the print out they give you noting when it's the busiest. I find the gym clean and the locker room clean. It's cheap to belong $10. Honestly, even if I stay a year its still cheaper than buying my own equipment at home. The only drawback there is not another one closer. :( But it's worth the gas money because Gold's Gym is VERY expensive. If you want a pool, day care, and classes this is not the place for you. I don't need any of those things. I just want to go in, work out and leave. :) There is free bagel days and free pizza days and they provide you with that info when you join. I cannot give a review of the weight section since I do not use those. They do provide a HUGE mirror so you can look at yourself while pumping iron. ;) read more

Not a fan of big-box, franchise fitness-centers. But comparatively speaking, this Planet Fitness was leagues above previous locations that I have visited. As a guest, I wasn't hounded or harassed about membership. The staff was friendly, and for the most part, left me alone -- Thank You, Baby Jesus! Free-weights are aplenty, good amount of ab machines/equipment, no squat-racks, but 4 smith machines. As always, an ungodly amount of cardio equipment. There was also a stretching area separate from the "30-minute circuit" area which was nice. The men's locker room was CLEAN, spacious, and well-lit. The showers were also well-maintained. I didn't partake in the available massage options, but it looked like there was a good amount of separate hydro-therapy and massage chairs available. Overall this location is by-far, the cleaner and better equipped gym -- the layout is most agreeable. Compared to other locations, you actually have a personal space. Also, unless you're an early bird or night owl, it gets pretty crowded during the day. read more

The gym is huge, (compared to poughkeepsie and wappingers falls) and it is always crowded. If there was a complaint it would be it does get really crowded. I like working out here bc you can't beat the price & it's close to me. However, the weekend hours really need to be extended. It closes at 7pm on a Sunday! Also about 50% of the tv's don't work almost none have a remote. My last complaint is that it can get quite busy especially in the free weight area. Having been a,member of thus gym for over 8 years I am appalled at how little effort is being put into the place. TV'S that have not t worked for over a month, the amount of equipment that takes awhile to fix, to a general lack of concern from the staff. With TWC cable going digital the gym didn't do anything to prepare. When I asked today about the tv problem (not the cable issue) I was,told that corporate has to talk to time warner. When I indicated that,they had,nothing to do with the mechanics of the tv sets, he just walked away. read more

Terrible. Came from out of town and after I swiped my card they ALSO made me sign in on clipboard, asking my name, where I was from, where my home planet fitness, was why I was in the area etc. Really irritating and I felt like saying something but didn't want to get into it. Felt like I was being interrogated by cops, really intrusive and annoying. Didn't exactly make me feel welcome like the Planet Fitness in Airmont did, which I went to the previous day. They didn't hassle me at all or make me feel like a "foreigner", Even though it was a much smaller planet fitness and not as "fancy" as this one....But this Newburgh joint was something else. Depressing inside, hardly any windows. And the one row of windows they did have, you can't look out at the Scenery if you're on the ellipticals are the treadmills et Cetera, because they actually have these SUPER ANNOYING individual video screens on EVERY SINGLE piece of aerobic equipment(!!!)...treadmills, elliptical, etc. So you're FORCED to either watch some stupid garbage on TV with commercials (Probably for planet fitness) or if you turn off the screen like I did you CANT LOOK OUT THE WINDOWS, Because your view is completely blocked by the damn screen. I felt like Smashing the damn thing. What a concept, blocking your view so you can't look at anything. Who is the genius that thought that up? This is the only planet fitness I've ever seen with this garbage. Unreal. I would do ANYTHING to avoid going to this particular planet fitness again, even if I had to go to the next town over, 15 miles away. I have been a member at Planet Fitness since they opened. This location is very clean, staff is friendly and helpful, and the members are great. I was working out today, Sunday 4-6-14 and when I got to the back where the mats are, one of the workers was putting away the exercise balls, bubbles, kettle balls, etc. When questions, he mentioned the gym had been bought out and the new owners don't want any of this. Apparently they are taking out some lift stations as well ! My workout consists of cardio and floor work (mats) I am not one for all the machines. I am now losing 45 minutes of my workout everyday! I love Planet Fitness! I am from NYC and moved here 6 months ago and this gym has been a "stellar" place to go. It is my haven from college and the staff are Amazing. They really know what they are talking about and treat each person with respect. If you are looking for a gym that has frills, I will tell you that it has all the equipment a gym has and a few massage chairs, tanning booths, and water massage beds. It is better than the average gym. However if you are looking for a pool and group classes, than this is not the place for you. They do offer sessions for small groups of people to learn the equipment, and since this is not a huge gym, it caters to a smaller crowd of people who are "down to earth" about their work outs. This location was a good starting point, as the price was right and the facility is nice and clean. This is a no frills gym with a variety of machines available (weight machines, bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, etc.) as well as some free weights in front of a large mirror. It is on my way home from work, so it was a good place to stop and burn off some stress & calories. Most of the employees I encountered were nice & somewhat helpful, but most seem to like to socialize a bit at the desk, especially during the hours I most frequented the place (weekdays around 6:30 PM). Once, an employee got all huffy with me because I did not return his hello... I honestly didn't hear him as I was in the middle of finding my next weight machine and all zoned out- sorry! But he didn't have to be so rude. At certain times of the day, this facililty becomes filled with young gym -goers who liked to crowd around the machines and gossip - very uncomfortable to have a group of high school or college students crowded around the machine you're using, and gossiping is not what the gym is for. I really wish that someone would enforce some type of rule that didn't allow people to crowd around the machines and chat. In general, this particular facility becomes very crowded at certain times, which is ok as long as you don't mind exercising surrounded by a large group of people - for the most part, everyone is on the same exercise/burn calories/ forget about a bad day for a low price mission, so no big deal. To sum up my somewhat mixed review, yes, I'm glad I have a membership here. It did serve me well. My fiance & I wound up feeling like we needed more from a gym membership, so we paid a hefty membership fee & joined another local gym that offers classes, has a pool as well as other features that Planet Fitness does not offer. However, for a no-frills, cheap gym, Planet Fitness is a good place to start. It was a good, clean place for me to burn off work related & other stresses & get myself into some kind of an exercise routine without going broke. I wish that the gym had some kind of policy that discouraged people from crowding around the weight machines & chatting, because that is just plain disrespectful to the people using them. The people at the desk were gossipy, but mostly friendly & helpful when needed. There is a 50-something year old man who wanders in and tells dirty jokes to everyone he encounters, but that's not necessarily the fault of the gym. Luckily, I go to school in Newburgh, so I cannot wait to be back in September!! Everything is new and clean. The tanning beds are awesome and the staff is always polite. Not one of the best planet fitnesses. Staff doesn't really care and isn't really attentive, I am almost ALWAYS waiting to scan in for 5 minutes or plus. Most if not all the of the time the bathrooms are a mess, toilet paper everywhere and soap dispensers are empty. Its always Packed, I have gotten on a smith machine one time and I've been a member since march. This planet fitness is just not up to par with others I've been to. Not much parking. Not enough step machines, only 3. They have so many treadmills and other cardio machinery you think they would swap a few for steppers. Not enough mat space for stretching. Only reason it gets two stars is because its location is convenient, and It barely gets the job done. read more

I don't care how bad your day is going, do not project that to your members- on top of that I get that their crew stick out for each other- crew to gen manager- so I got a response "I know him, he wouldn't do that" so I get called a liar, when I legit had an arguement in front of 5 staff members - all because from day 1 no one cared to do their job and sign me in properly- being that I'm a member at another facility. He even told me "I don't want to bring in my tag or take a picture then I don't need to be here" like excuse you?! WTH. I paid to be here. Members like me pays people like you to stay open I guess you get what you paid for when you go to these kind of gyms but never once in my life (me being a manager at a different fitness studio) have been so rudely attacked because he "got in trouble" last night about it. That isn't my problem- my problem is when you decide to tell me I've given you sly remarks and attitude when the reality is I don't even know what your talking about! So this gym blatantly called me a liar, with an attitude problem "supposedly" and I'm probably the nicest person and know how to professionally deal with customers- this place sucks in customer service. I have been a member of PF since it opened in Middletown, I was very pleased when Newburgh opened since it was a shorter drive in the am. I go early before work so it is convenient for me to use Newburgh and then hopefully on 84 to go to work in Middletown. I signed up about 10 years ago with a plan that was 15.00 a month and includes tanning. I am not a black card member and have not found that I needed it in the past 10 years. To my surprise today I was told, very rudely, "you are not a black card member, you cannot tan." I tried explaining my membership to the girl at the desk and all she basically said to me was NO! You can't tan, your account doesn't state this...NO! She didnt offer to look in to this for me, just treated me like a liar. If I didn't have this membership with tanning for 15.00 and wanted tanning I would absolutely pay the 4.99 extra for the black card. This is not the point, the terrible customer service is what makes me sad and disappointed with Newburgh Planet Fitness. read more

I have been a member for years. I was so happy when they opened this branch, so close to my home. The equipment is clean and works well, they give you directions on how to use he machines you don't know how to use. They have plenty of bikes, treadmills and elipticals as well as all of the standard exercise equipment and weights. They are truly a judgment free zone and a comfortable place to work out. This planet fitness over the last year is by far the worst i've ever been to . Im been a member with my daughters since they opened but they have rude young unfriendly staff the last few months who cares less to answer questions and often look evil and unapproachable ( the women ) and constantly using there cell . I had a run in with a female trainer who parked her car so close to mine even the smallest of women couldn't have got in . When i went inside and asked if they knew who car it was one lady was nice the other who is often rude and have a look on her face as if she hates her job and i go 5 days a week said i no who car it is wait shes busy as if I wasn't and came bk and said give her a few mins , she then came out and I proceed to show her the photo of the two cars together and she got loud and very defensive and told me my membership would be voided lol horrible business and horrible way to end a great 45 min workout ill be contacting corp.
