This PF location is convenient right off of 880 freeway where the old Pak N Save was. Typically I don't stop on Hegenberger, but again it's convenient. This was my first time in the gym in over a year. I signed up for the black card through the Active Fit program with my health insurance. I was pleasantly surprised. It's one of the bigger facilities. It was clean ( didn't go into the restroom though). They have numerous equipment to use and about 15 TVs to watch. The parking lot is a mess, but it's shared with various businesses. Don't leave anything in your car as there's broken glass all over. There are numerous Teslas charging stations in the parking lot. Convenient location. Great equipment, with a nice open layout. The gym is very clean inside but the parking lot is the complete opposite. The pavement is very rough and there's the trash everywhere. Regular sweeping and a security guard would make me feel better about coming to this gym. read more

Parking lot is a mess. Broken car glass, food trash, and more cars than could be using the businesses there. People parked illegally in red zones and handicap parking spots. Inside us clean but elliptical and bike machines reset often and don't appear to be maintained well. When I informed staff, they were not helpful..bordering on rude...saying I wasn't using the machines correctly (but also not testing the problem machines). They will not help women! My friend got her stuff stolen and two idiots at the front refused to help her when she could see her bag in someone else's locker. She lives out of a car , has a membership & can name everything in bag including her id. when I asked them why they're not helping, they said "protocol & manger comes the next day"??? Then one of them walked away & the other just started ignoring me & texting. FEMALES don't go, THEY will not help you and protect criminals. So not only do I love every single employee there. The daytime manager is so amazing. I needed something done and I didn't know if they would be able to do it but they did and he went out of his way to try to help me. That's what I call Great management. 1 star for being the most cleanest Planet Fitness I go to (except the bathroom). But what's with people parking on the curve by the entrance. There's plenty of parking lot yall are blocking cars and people. Are people that lazy. Do something about this PF! Don't come to the gym if you can't park in a real spot. It's red for a reason. I lowered the stars because the "customer service" who replied to this did not acknowledge what I mentioned. Like actually do something. Forward it to the actual manager and the team. Instead of responding like "if you have any issues let the staff know" like you really think they're gonna do anything. This is my other go to PF besides my actual membership location. I'm even thinking about switching to this one since this place is much cleaner from my experience. The staff are active, walking around and cleaning. Bathrooms are always up to par. Friendly staff always. The gym is also much bigger and has all the equipment I need. I shuffle between this gym and the one I signed up at, depending on what I'm working out on. I've also seen a few folks from my gym here and they have also expressed how much cleaner this place is. His friendly and approachable nature makes it nice to know him. As a Planet Fitness Member I have had the pleasure of witnessing firsthand the tremendous efforts and dedication he puts into his work, and I must say that I am impressed. I asked him one day why he was cleaning up something that his coworker left over night? He said "if I was coming here to workout I wouldn't want to see that" I told him that was a very healthy attitude, and I know his manager will appreciate him for that. This gym has amazing staff that care about keeping the environment clean and sanitary. Shout out to the DJ -- good music while working out is very important to me. Maybe add some Spanish music and maybe other types of music as well -- cumbias, bachata, Jersey Mix, Jamaican music, EDM, Sonideros, Some City Girls type of music would be nice as well -- get that heart pumping while listening to good jams is good for the soul. For the price of the membership planet fitness is a great value. This location is usually less busy than Hayward. The parking spaces are small and people tend to park over the line a lot. Outside of that they have everything you will need to gain, lose, or maintain... As long as you don't finish your workout with McDonald's, Taco Bell, or the Taco Truck that share the parking lot with the gym. read more

This location is good as a cardio gym (even though the machines do not have their own personal screens - tvs are hanging side-by-side off the ceiling), but as for weights, the options were lacking. I don't know if it's because of summer, teens get to work out for free, the after-work rush, or some other reason but it was very crowded and people had to lift very close to each other due to lack of space. Benches were very hard to come by, most free weights were in use so you have to take what you can get, and the same people were using the smith machines for almost 40 solid minutes (on their phones or doing 20 sets each apparently)...and then they didn't re-rack their weights. I saw very little wiping off of equipment and people playing music on their phones with no headphones. I work out regularly at a Planet Fitness in SoCal and have visited several different locations when out of town. The layout of this one felt odd to me and as mentioned above, the gym etiquette needs work. Would recommend for cardio though. The parking lot had shattered glass in several spaces, so park with caution. read more

Sketchy and Dangerous. Hegenberger is the part of town where every criminal loot since it's so close to the airport and the freeway. The main issue here is the parking lot, it's easy to get your window broken and also there's a homeless encampment nearby. There is no security other than cameras that point at the door and nowhere else. The gym itself is excellently maintained, very clean and it highlights mostly cardio and very minimal weight-lifting equipment. Sometimes their credit card machine works but most of the the time, you'll need to bring cash to purchase a drink. read more

Not even gunna hold you. I was shook to see a Planet Fitness in the town with a 4 star rating. I had a little attitude because when I pulled up the lights were out and the 24 hour sign was right there in my face. I was like tf... this is false advertisement. Apparently they close for an hour from 1:30-2:30 to clean. My thing is this why were the lights out? Y'all cleaning in the dark? Lol All that to say this planet fitness is well kept. I don't know if it's a facade of cleanliness because it's a new establishment or if that 1 hour cleaning break is what is keeping is clean because like I said, the lights were out lol. But as long as I'm in Oakland I'll come here. Cleanliness is huge for me when it comes to gyms and this place is very clean. read more

We've been to a lot of PF's because we travel in a camper along the west coast frequently stopping at PF's along the way to workout and shower. This PF is the best PF in Oakland and one of the biggest best PF's we've ever visited. The staff do a great job of keeping machines, showers clean and managing any issues. Like most PF in cities the gym is located on the fringe of an economically depressed neighborhood. We've never had a problem but lock up our vehicle and witnessed staff successfully and appropriately manage a homeless person in the gym once. We are in Oakland sometimes for weeks at a time and this place is our sanctuary. read more

Visited this location 5am sharp today prior to work. My usual spot is 24 Hour, High St. Regards this PF location: HUGE, open space concept 100%. Well designed. Cleanliness = Immaculate Showers/Restrooms = Immaculate, nice and boujee, especially if you give .02 about taking showers before/after work. Gym Floor = Immaculate Customer Service = A1, they aren't playin' around right now regards masks Parking lot security/Lighting = A1, So far, so good. This gym is super convenient, right next to the freeway exit and entrance. The staff are really friendly and make sure to keep the gym sanitize. You will definitely see a variety of different individuals in the gym, just remember you're there to work on yourself not to mind other people business. Would def recommend this to anyone. read more

This is a nice gym and I'm really glad I got a membership. Had I not recently been to one out of state, I'd rate this a solid 5 (it's a 4 but I'm giving 5 stars anyway). The cleaning stations are messy and inconvenient. Just a big roll of paper towels that you rip off (need dispensers!) also in the 30min weight section, there should be a cleaning station INSIDE the area. No one leaves after each station to go get spray and wipe machines down. There's a weight area that says 'abs' but it's all leg machines. Not the end of the world, but attention to details could be better. However, this is a clean gym and feels safe. Nice people. read more

This has been my gym for approximately 2 years. Staff is friendly, it gets busy, during summer months staff could make sure kids are actually working out since machines are scarce. Over all no problems. Unfortunately, I went to workout on a Saturday morning early, and after a quick 45min workout, I came back to a car with a missing catalytic converter. I called the club to speak to a manager. It's been a week, no callback, no email no bothing. If this is the type of service this club provides, then I suggest not patronizing this club. Being one of the only gyms in the East Oakland area, this gym is great! The equipment is in good condition and for the most part everything is clean. The bathrooms are very clean and the Black Card section is great. All good things aside, my only issue with this gym is that you probably won't get a good workout. If you're trying to get access to the weights or the Smith machine after 4pm, good luck. There are huge crowds every single afternoon and sometimes the same groups take up the smith machines and weights. I wish there would be a time limit or some way to have more people use the machines during peak hours but I guess this is the downside of having only one gym in the area. read more

I enjoy going to this gym, but I tried to get a work out in early morning 2 times already and they have been closed. The first time I saw 2 women and 2 men waiting outside to open. I waited in my car until 5:15 and still didn't open. Today there was an issue with someone leaving the gym unlocked over night and they didn't allow anyone in. I know it's only $20 a month but I'm paying to use the gym. I'm sticking to the one in Hayward even though it is further for me. read more
